This is my second visit. Its a smaller place. The first time we came on a busy Saturday one friend sat on an overturned bucket and another on a footstool with a box because they didn't have enough chairs for everyone. They also tried to up sell us on lobster by saying they only have $100 ones. We declined and pointed out we were sitting next to the lobster tank and could see smaller lobsters.
This time we came on a cold sunny Saturday after an early movie. We were late enough to miss the lunch rush but early enough to still be able to take advantage of the lunch specials. Yay.
This place is located on 16th and Spadina Road. Its in a plaza with some other restaurants. There's a bus stop on the corner if you want to bus it but dude, it's the suburbs. Tonnes of free parking.
Its small and very elegant. I love the decor. Its dark wood, and blues, with a pretty golden painting on the back wall. The first visit was when it had first opened and they were working out some kinks I guess. Seating consisted of tables and chairs, no booths. There's a biggish private room to the side that looks like it can fit maybe 15- 20 people.
When I got there my friend had already ordered the tea so I'm not sure what kind we got. I still can't really tell the differences between some of them. They have a three 'course' Prix fixe lunch specials. We decided to each get one and share.
It comes with soup, a spring roll, and the main that you ordered. We got corn and chicken soup. (The house soup was out. We were bummed, it's delicious), a tiny spring roll, and an order of egplant in minced pork with xo sauce and a steamed rice with Chinese sausage in a lotus leaf.
Soup was delicious I love the corn soup. It always looks like they opened a can of creamed corn in a pot of chicken soup. I love creamed corn. . The spring roll came on a skewer and was nice a fresh and crunchy. I liked the steamed rice. I tend to find the Chinese sausage a strong flavour because it's usually in big chunks but it was almost minced and I liked the flavour distribution. My favourite dish is the eggplant and chilli and this was not a disappointment. The eggplant was soft but not overcooked and stringy. The xo sauce was really flavourful and enhanced the pork nicely. Nice spice level too.
Service was efficient. I wouldn't exactly call anyone who waited our table as friendly or concerned for our enjoyment, but we got the food and they refilled out tea fast and efficiently so who needs to make friends.
I'm ignoring the first visit and am kicking myself for letting it keep me away so long. Love this place.
Now I only need to get a v.I.p. card for it because I'll be back a lot!
Ming Cuisine is a higher end Chinese that opened up recently in Richmond Hill.
The restaurant though smallish but nicely decorated. Love the blue and white theme instead of all those glittering gold.
Lunch Special $8.99 includes soup, spring roll and a noodle/rice dish. There are snacks and sides for around $5 which is great to share.
Since I arrived for a late lunch, their usual double boiled soup 炖湯 was gone but replaced by fish maw soup which was good and supposed to be healthy too.
For main I ordered Rice in Lotus Leaf 秘製荷葉飯. It does take awhile to arrive as they all made to order. The portion is huge! Great to share.
Definitely worth coming for lunch. The special order menu can be quite interesting. Just make sure you call for reservations!
I had a late dinner on Boxing Day. Maybe that's why there were still so many people. Customers still came in after 9 pm. We had the King Crab Set Menu. It's said it's 8 lbs but what they left was either 6 or 9 lbs. so we had a choice to pay more if we chose 9 lbs or we had an extra dish (Diced Beef in Maggi Sauce) for a 6 lbs. we just had 4 people. We could not finish a 9 lbs. so, we picked a 6lbs. The King Crab was good. Both Steamed Legs and Fried Crab were good. They love to use vermicelli. We had a full plate left combining the two dishes.
The fried Rice with Crab Head was yummy when they added sweet corn to the brown rice. They even tried to create a whole crab with vegetables as the legs !!
As we we so full, we just finished 1/6 of the Shredded Chicken by Hand.
The food seems good. Price is moderate. Need to come back and try their A-la-carte menu. Hope it can be added to my restaurant list. !!
5 stars are not enough to give to this small restaurant.
The stuff gluten rice inside the chicken is so delicious. Fried tofu, herbal soup, 🦞 and services are all amazing to us.
Would love to come back with my parents and sisters next time to try the rest of their menu
Thank you for taking care of us
Ming Cuisine has been in Richmond Hill for a period of time, but this is my first time trying this cuisine. This is a small Chinese restaurant, so recommend make reservation. We ordered shred chicken with sea cucumber, pan fry tiger shrimp, pan fry oyster with honey, dice tenderloin, vegetables, steam pork with dry squid, salt and pepper eel and fish maw soup. All the entree portion are huge, but they taste great. One of the best Chinese restaurant in town!
Amazing Cantonese Cuisines. Well, I need to say it should be one of the top Cantonese Restaurants in GTA. It combines traditional and creative flavor, which made me impressive. Highly recommend the deep fried Spare Pork Ribs with Olives and Duck and Taro with plum sauce (need to reserve in advance).
Tasty food, ordered Hainan chicken and stir fried vermicelli. Lunch special came with soup which tasted like home made soup, way much better than other restaurants.
Great Cantonese cuisine. One of the best in Toronto. Place is not as big as we see from outside.
Great quality food! Although I don't recommend going during the holidays as they are backed up by takeout!
Ordered
Sweet and sour pork - amazing!
General tao chicken
Lobster Yee Mien!
Very nice Chinese restaurant. My family had a very satisfied birthday dinner for my wife. Staffs are polite and helpful. Atmosphere is good, comfort and clean. Foods are excellent and reasonable price. Good choice for a group because there are too many dishes you wish to order. Strongly recommend “plum duck”.
Thank you so much for the special dessert, deep fry sesame ball!!
Great place for lunch or dinner! Although the restaurant is not big, but the details and efforts can be seen on every dish. If you come here during lunch hour, my personal choice will be the fried rice noodles, so it’s the thin noodles in brownish/yellow color. Another great dish is the sweet and sour chicken or pork, nicely done! Of course, I tried many of their items and they are great so I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Also came here for dinner as well, Food wise was not bad. Ordered one of their famous glutinous sticky rice chicken, so I think it wasn’t the whole chicken but it was part of the chicken (boneless) and stuffed with the sticky rice inside... very filling. Best part is the crispy skin but watch out you will get full easily with the sticky rice.. the ribs we ordered didn’t have much meat though so it was kinda a waste.. for such price. Other items are good too so you may give it a try.. in terms of pricing.. pretty standard compared to any other restaurants.. maybe just slightly higher but then everywhere is getting expensive so there’s not much you can choose from.
