Review Nam Vietnamese - Richmond Hill

ALEX LEE
This place used to be good. But my recent lunch visit has unfortunately put them an afterthought moving forward. FYI: visit was before noon and not busy. Reasons; 1. Sanitation, 2. Service, 3. Food. Sanitation. *see attached pics. I don’t doubt all restaurants are on par with cleanliness but don’t let me see it. The experience was unacceptable. Service. They say you eat with your eyes. Agree. Happy staff also helps make food more enjoyable. So smile with sincerity. *There’s also a 12% service charge automatically added to your bill. It is written all over the restaurant….hum? Food. Pho broth tasted as if it was from yesterday’s serving but watered down with added seasonings/herbs but didn’t fool us as it was overpowering. Another bowl we had was a specialty soup noodle that just tasted watered down. As mentioned, they used to be good. This leaves lots of room for improvement. Best of luck,
Will Fong
Fast and tasty. Fresh noodles as well as dried noodles available for your Pho. Small restaurant so they may sit you at shared tables with plexiglass dividers and they didn’t ask nor check for COVID Vaccinations of anyone in our party of 4 nor other customers that we noticed. That may be worrisome for some patrons.

Lives up to the hype! INCREDIBLE FOOD. Tried the Banh Bot Lot (Shrimp and Pork Dumplings - 5 pieces) $11.00, Vietnamese Iced Coffee with condensed milk $6.50, $Bun Rieu Cua w/ Soft Shell Crab $17.00, Canh Ga Chien Nuoc Mam (Wet Wings 5 pieces with Nam House sauce) and the Brisket Pho. Everything was served super fresh, piping hot and had impeccable flavour and mouth feel. Not many other Vietnamese restaurants serve dishes like Banh Bot Lot - and it was so special to get to try! Highly recommended. The space itself was packed. Very lively. Clearly earned a (well deserved) reputation. Line out the door.

Liked it, but not sure if it's a must try. Food was tasty, lots of Vietnamese noodles/dishes that were on the menu that aren't in many other restaurants. Pretty standard taste. Quick service. Price is a couple or more dollars more than an average Viet restaurant

Soupy noodles just hits the spot! @nam.restaurant is a Vietnamese eatery in Richmond Hill. A great place if you feel like a big bowl of soupy noodles. Noodles Bun Rieu Cua with soft shell crab is so delicious. Tomato based broth with vermicelli noodles is loaded with pork, shrimp, tofu, Vietnamese ham and pork jelly. A must …..Nam’s Crispy Dry Butter Wings topped with garlic and green onions is so tasty! I am addicted and we had to place a second order to satisfy our cravings for more!! Also Shrimp Chips with Peanut Sauce and Shrimp and Pork Dumplings topped with dry shallots, cilantro and Pork Floss. For more food adventures follow me @hungryjo on Instagram

Yummy Thai food in RH This place is small and really busy during pick time. I've tried Pho and soft shell crab with noodles. Soft shell crab 🦀 was just small one crab but it was yummy but the noodle it comes with didn't have a big impact as i expected. But I enjoyed tender beef pho and their dried chicken wing.

Come here with friends for a quick bite and for chit chats. This location in particular is smaller than Nam 2, so there’s often a waitlist. Kitchen is always singing so kind of entertaining. Food is decent. The beef in the pho is good, taste is nice, portion wise I think less noodles compared to other places, the broth is also pretty standard and bland. The banh mi and spring&pork rolls are also sides I get often. Food usually comes pretty quickly, but I think they sometimes forget to punch in the order (end up waiting quite a bit). Staff is just staff. Overall, decent for a quick bite but prefer Nam 2 better.

Delicious and tasty food. The tea is uniquely flavoured and the chicken wings are absolutely divine. I ordered the Bun Cha Ha Noi and it was so flavourful and had a variety of textures. This location is a lot smaller than the Markham one but I’d say the wait was shorter. Service was also attentive and I will absolutely be back again. Cash or debit only!! edit: their chefs are pretty good at singing too 😂

I think I've found my new favorite spot for Vietnamese cuisine. Delicious food. Great service. Reasonable price. Staff were friendly and very attentive to customers. Would highly recommend the Vietnamese dumplings and Bun Cha Hanoi. I will definitely come back.

I love the place, the service is absolutely amazing and on point, the food is quality and well made too. Have tried the Pho and the pad thai and I can confidently say its the best I have tried anywhere. The family that owns the restaurant is not just super friendly but also make you feel very comfortable. Definitely try it

Flavourful, authentic cuisine that warms the soul and satisfies the palate. You can taste the pride the chef and his staff put into creating each meal. Ambience is classy and rustic. Definitely a place for anyone who appreciates vietnamese food that stays true to its origins.

One of the best Pho joints uptown! The beef is top notch, thinly sliced and nicely marbled. Service is great, family style friendly servers. Must try if you like Pho

Food is ok, but the floor is so slippery I saw people slide out as if in a skating ring, scary.

The first time that we tried to check out this restaurant, they were unexpectedly closed on a Sunday. Fortunately, the next time that we visited again, it was open. Nam Vietnamese Restaurant is a Vietnamese restaurant with elements of Cambodia and Vietnam located on the corner of Leslie Street and 16th Avenue in Richmond Hill (it’s right beside the newly expanded Fresh Burger).

I had organized a dutch team lunch; however, we didn't agreed on a location. We were totally conflicted with "Rawlicious" and "Izakaya Tsuki". One new requirement was that we had to be back before 1pm due to an internal meeting. I recalled that there was a pho restaurant up north on Leslie street beside "Fresh Burger" and thought it was worth checking out. Got agreement with most of the team and off we went for our lunch adventure.

Review of a Restaurant Without Even Tasting the Food

My wife and I wanted to try this new restaurant just to see what our options were in the area. Upon arriving at the restaurant at approximately 6:20pm on a weeknight, the door was locked. However, there were several tables inside the restaurant eating. Not full. Three to four tables were occupied. We tried opening the door as it was locked. No signs whatsoever indicating why it was locked. People inside were looking at us. Even the staff inside were looking at us. No one came to the door.

So I grabbed the staff's attention from outside and pointed at the door. Finally one lady came to the door, unlocked it and told us "The restaurant is booked for a private sitting at 7:00pm". It's fine if your restaurant is booked. But give us the option of eating and leaving within half an hour's time as your restaurant is not full. We arrived 40 minutes before the private sitting even began. It would be our choice to leave if we knew we couldn't finish within the time allotted. But to totally ignore us while we were standing outside the restaurant with no indication as to why you're closing your doors, that's unheard of.

A little sign on the front door would have helped. What a way to shoo away new customers. Won't be trying this place at all as it's true from what other reviews have mentioned: service is horrendous. I'll be taking my Pho cravings elsewhere.

Nam Vietnamese Restaurant has a lot of potential and will do well in this area without other authentic Vietnamese restaurants, if they would just improves on a few things.

I love the decor of the restaurant which is quite unique compares to other restaurants. The staff is friendly and willingly to help but still need training and more serving experience.

Menu is small but they do have a few items that are not available from other Vietnamese restaurants in the area and those were well prepared: Bun Cha Hanoi ($12), Hu Tieu Nam Vang Dry ($9.90). Their Bun Bo Hue ($9.80) has a nice lemongrass and ginger broth.

Things to avoid: Spring Rols ($6). Those were the worse I ever ate. The wrapping was hard and chewy and there was hardly any fillings!

Smoothies were quite tasty but the portion is small and presentation was not the most appealing.

Good luck to Nam and hopefully more improvement can be made so it would be my go to Vietnamese restaurant in Richmond Hill.

Been waiting for this place to open for months now. Saw the great reviews online so I was pretty eager to give it a try. Alas!! The owners are great (family-owned, family-served), but the pho is incredibly average. You get to pick from "fresh" or "dry" pho. While the fresh pho was really soft but still OK to eat, the dry pho was... brittle! It broke into pieces the moment it went into my mouth. Sign of noodles that are not freshly made. Was not pleased with the lack of and quality of toppings either. The "rare beef" was really tough, and the few beef balls in my bowl were tiny and almost spongy in texture. I unfortunately will not be recommending this place to anyone.

I wanted Vietnamese so thought we'd give this place a try. It was ok. The day we went it was really hot outside & I don't think their a/c was working. They had fans blowing but it was still stifling inside. I felt very bad for the people working in the kitchen.
We had a bowl of beef Pho, order of chicken spring rolls & an order of Pad Thai. The dishes were "ok". Lacking in the usual potent flavours it was a bit on the bland side.

The restaurant itself was nice & clean. The servers were friendly & attentive. I believe we came within the first week of it opening so I understand if there are still kinks to work out.

I'd give this place one more try before I decide if it becomes a regular place for me.

If you are looking for authentic Vietnamese food in the GTA prepared by Vietnamese people then this gem in Richmond Hill is the best place. I've gone downtown for this cuisine but Nam is superior and the prices more reasonable. The owners are very nice, the place is clean and service attentive. The bottom line: My fave is the Bun cha ha noi is $12, for 2 piece of pork patties and slice pork bellies submerge in light fish sauce with a side bed of massive veggies and herbs and noodles...
If you live below Steeles Ave in Toronto and don't think about driving north to dine, you're missing out.

New restaurant alert! This cozy modern Vietnamese restaurant just opened in Richmond Hill. Enjoyed everything we tried. For appetizers we went with pork springrolls and fried chicken wings. The springrolls were OK but we are definitely going back for the tasty, juicy and crunch wings. It was so good! For mains we had beef pho, lemongrass chicken with rice, and bun cha Hanoi. My friend says the phone was average and the lemongrass chicken was pretty good (bonus that they serve it with a fried egg). But definitely a favourite was the Bun Cha Hanoi. Cannot wait to go back to try more...including their 5 spice pork Bahn mi.
