Review Marlowe Restaurant & Bar - Richmond Hill

The WORST experience ever! Never coming back. Not my friends,  not my business partners and of course, not my family. I don't know where to start: 1. We ordered the oyster. Price $41 for 12 pc. I have never seen this small size of oysters. You can see in my picture the size of a teaspoon. 2. We get our appetizer and main course at the same time. Do I have to eat a steak and ousters together? 3. I've to ask for medium-well steak and get well-done. My husband ordered a fillet minion, and it's not a fillet minion, a regular piece of meat. 4. We don't have a plate for appetizers and ask for them. What do we get? The server put it in front of my husband six plates and left us. Self-serving? 5. For kids, we ask to drink without ice, and, of course, the server brings a drink with ice. 6. Epic, our bill. We needed two separates bill for two families, and a server brought the wrong bill. And she totally forgets who is ordered what. That's not all, but I think that's enough.

The food was great but the waitress showed a lot of sass towards us for no reason. Maybe she just expected that we should order alcohol, appetizers, main course and desserts? She was a rude person in general, I’m not sure why she’s working there if she hates her job.

Great customer experience at Marlowe. Food was decent, lovely environment. I was treated a small sparkling wine to celebrate my birthday. Thank you for making this a memorable evening. definitely will be back!

We went to Marlowe today with my office gathering, witch is our office does ones a month. It's a great experience. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming. Amazing wines, food and service. our server was extremely knowledgeable and great recommendations Tandoori Salmon with vegetables and mushrooms, and they have an option of Halal Meat. Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in Richmond Hill. The service is unmatched. The food is absolutely amazing-everything we tasted melted in other mouths. Highly recommend !

The food was very tasty. We were a table of 10. Everyone enjoyed their choices. And since we went there on a Friday they had the Dj which created a cool ambient. Amazing experience! I would definitely go back since I already craved their Jambalaya dish!!

It is a pretty nice restaurant to go to, however the wait time is ABYSMAL, we were waiting for about 40 minutes for a Vodka bottle and it wasn't even cold! but other than the poor wait time, the food is pretty great and the shisha is on par with the prices its at. The dance area is really good if you have a date to go with. Everyone there is kind and respectful as long as you are being respectful. Overall 8/10 would recommend going back.

The restaurant was nice, the service was quick and the food was good. I had a steak, which was cooked well and you could see the kitchen staff were working hard to keep up with the orders. It was a little loud in the restaurant, which was fine but if you are looking for a quiet meal this isn't the place. The soup was nice and I would go again.

I used to frequent Marlowes years ago under diff ownership. This is my first visit in a few years. It has more of Persian menu now. The food was quite good and we didn’t have to wait for a table. My complaints and the reason for 3 stars are; They are not asking for proof of vaccination. The restaurant has an upscale atmosphere but our server did not fit the image. She was dressed more to work at hooters wearing a tiny tank toexposing her entire belly. We ordered a bottle of wine that arrived after our food. The waitress had no idea how to open the bottle of wine and struggled. It was painful to watch. She then poured the wine into our glasses as if she was pouring beer. Did not even allow us to taste the wine as servers are supposed to do in nice restaurants. The service was very slow and i really doubt the servers are smart serve certified. I suggest better hiring and training of your staff to reflect the atmosphere of the restaurant.

This place is across the street from work and so we had a large group here for a weekday lunch. The menu looked promising and the place was clean with nice seating.<br/><br/>The service though was very slow and they were just unprepared to deal with a large group. Amongst us we had a large part of the menu covered, and most dishes were not up to the mark. The veggie balls with spaghetti and tomato coconut gravy was quite a boring dish. The flavours were flat and it was really difficult to finish the dish after the first couple of spoonfuls. The appetizer platter with calamari, shrimp, fries and bruschetta sounded delicious but lacked quality.<br/><br/>All in all not a great place.

We came for my nephew's bar mitzvah two weeks ago. We were over 80 people. Service was great. Food was really good. Since then I came again with my girl friend. If you're really picky about service and speed try a weekday. We personally liked the Saturday night. It was a bit slower service since it's super busy but it's worth it. There's DJ and dancing afterwards.

This was the worst experience I’ve had in a restaurant, it begins when we arrived at this dump, a fat Arab sounding guy wearing a security shirt asked my 79 year old grand mother for ID, all the while the smoke from his cigarette blew right into her face, bear in mind that my grandmother is a cancer survivor. It took us 20 minutes to be seated and not even a chair was offered to my Grandmother. The food was mediocre, grandma took a bit of the chicken and left the rest. The food contained bits of hair and strange particles that caused us to return, it took another 30 minutes before the food was replaced, only now it was under cooked. The service is unbelievable slow and the atmosphere was fowl, the smell of the place is just gassy. I strongly urge you not to go to this restaurant, you would regret it like my family did..

What can I say: first, it is not a wine bar. It’s not because you have a wine cellar that you can call yourself a wine bar, especially giving the poor wine list and a server that doesn’t know nothing bout wine (she was barely able to understand her own special!)<br/><br/>Second, there is no ambiance but that could be because I am on a Tuesday night in Richmond hill.<br/><br/>But third, what they so called the Branzino (European see bass) was a desaster. No clear direction has to what that plate should have been (2 filets served on top of oyster with tomatoes?!?)<br/><br/>So no, I can’t recommend anything on this place. And the one star is because I can’t put nothing. You know when you have that feeling that you have been robbed...<br/><br/>Regards<br/><br/>KL

"Marlowe is fairly generic from the outside, it does not have the cache of occupying a unique building or being in a cool neighborhood. We would have normally skipped a spot like that, but very happy we did not on this occasion."<br/>"The undisputed champion of our dinner was the Australian Lamb Shank. Marinated, slow braised meat with roasted red mashed potatoes, root vegetables in combination with Barista Valley Shiraz Dani and raisin pepper relish were to write a separate post about. "

<br/>Went with a gift certificate from a family member. Really enjoyed it, would go again. Food was delicious. Service was very friendly and prompt.<br/>

I was at a large table with bad service. The reason the service was bad is because he automatically took his gratuity. Food ok and the wine was overpriced.

Fabulous food, atmosphere, service and extremely well maintained throughout. Great for any occasion. A fireplaces to keep you cozy warm in the cooler months. Whether you want fine dining or casual dining, you will enjoy the ambience of The Marlowe
Stenoodie
The “Marlowe bruschetta” contained soft black kalamata olives and plum tomato chunks on an olive oil brushed white baguette which was very tasty compared to most bruschettas being served on just plain bread.

Marlowes is a nice fancy place to have dinner. They've got a great set up with the dine in booths as you enter, tables and a dance floor and bar at the end. The atmosphere is lively at night, especially on friday and saturdays. Fridays is girls night out, where you can purchase 4 appetizers and 4 drinks for $40. It's also free entrance for girls before 10pm. Their music isn't too great as far as dancing goes. They seem to cater towards an older, mature crowd. They're open quite late for those of you that love to dance. Sometimes, they're open even past 2am. If you're looking for a local place to grab a bite or even to just go and dance, you should check this place out.

Going there was somewhat a last minute experience as I had not exactly planned where my husband and I would go. Anyway, we showed up at 8:30 and we were given a table right away. We both enjoyed our time there, food was delicious, wide range of wine selection that varied in prices that was a bonus. I'm sure we will go back.

I visited Marlowe Restaurant for lunch for the first time a few weeks ago, I tried one of the lunch feature items which was a Turkey Sandwich it was absolutely delicious. My friend ordered the General Tao which I would like to try on my next visit the portion size was large it looked amazing. Service was quick and efficient. Definitely a restaurant I would recommend to others

The food is not extraordinary. Our waitress, this time around was really rude. She tacked on gratuity on our bill when there was only 4 of us.

Fun Environment , Great food. Great tasting food, Oysters are most definitely recommended for all Oyster lovers. A few friends and myself split a Appetiser platter that had an assortment of items that was pretty delicious. If hungry order one to your face well worth it.

Love it ... Won't go back!. Good food at good prices .. Good service ... Wine prices are astounding. 1 glass of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc was $17.00. The cost of a BOTTLE of the wine at the LCBO ... $19.95...

Best brownies ever. I come here just for the gluten free brownies! Must try...they are to die for.

Very disappointing. Lobster & Shrimp Spring Rolls - nothing special<br/>Grilled Filet Mignon Shish Kabob (AAA Beef Tenderloin) - the meat was very "mushy", it might have been marinated for too long<br/>Chocolate Lava Cake - overcooked lava cake, no chocolate lave was found inside the cake

Check out Marlowe Restaurant. Went to The Marlowe for my friends bridal shower, We had a fabulous lunch the food was delicious it was buffet style. There was a carving station and an Omelette station. I was very satisfied with the wide variety of food to choose from. I went last week with my hubby for dessert and coffee during there Salsa night. The best Lava Cake I have ever tried by far. Chocolate gooey and absolutely delicious. Recommend anyone trying to find a venue to have a private event.

Great place for a night out!. I had an amazing evening at Marlowe Restaurant with my friends the other weekend. Our food was outstanding. My friends were from out of town and they loved it. Great place to bring company

Birthday Celebration. This was one of my worst experiences. I was called the afternoon of the reservation to ask how long it would take to have dinner. Would two hours be long enough? I said no. Then when I got to the restaurant I was asked again.<br/>This was a birthday celebration. I told them we wanted to have a leisurely dinner. They tried to rush out of there.<br/>I will never go back. I will tell all my family and friends about my experience.

Won't be going again. Took forever for food to arrive, service slow. Lighting horrible, screwed up a few orders and overpriced!

Preset Marlowlicious. Came in last night for their preset Marlowlicious menu. Great selection. They offered some really tasty choices. Perfect dinner date!

Business lunch. Came in for a business lunch last week. The restaurant was fairly busy but we still had a great service. We ended up having some dishes off the lunch features, very tasty Turkey Meatloaf. Good ambiance.

GREAT FOOD GREAT SERVICE. From the moment we walked in we were overwhelmed by the hospitality and warmth conveyed by the staff and ambiance. Really nice place! Three of us had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, it was a very busy night, and we were sat immediately. The food was served quickly, hot, fresh, jumping off the plate and into my mouth! Very good value, drinks for three, mains and desserts ran us under $100. The greatest compliment I can pay the Marlowe is that they are original, not a franchise hack-job like THE KEG or MOXIES. Original menu, great unique food, and a service and kitchen staff that is obviously passionate about hospitality and taking care of people! try it for yourself. great night life aswell, after 11 pm it turns into a bumping night club. We were there on Wednesday night, a salsa night it seems, with free lessons and a live latin band that was awesome!! 2 thumbs up for the Marlowe and cool hip ownership that obviously stands alone among corporate entities. We will definitely be back!

Bridal Shower at Marlowe. I recently had my bridal shower at Marlowe and it was the perfect venue for a Sunday brunch shower. The venue was cozy and intimate and the decor is very elegant. The serving staff was amazing the day of, very attentive and friendly. Heidi the events coordinator made sure everything ran smoothly and was a pleasure to work with. All of my guests raved about the buffet brunch food. I will definitely be returning as a dinner patron and would recommend this space for anyone looking for a unique and local venue for a private event.

A 27th Birthday Party To Remember!. I usually don't do much for my birthday. This year, I wanted to have a special party with all of my close friends. I had heard about Marlowe's though I had never been there before. I first contacted Heidi to begin booking my party. Heidi was such a positive person and a pleasure to work with. She was very accommodating and seemed entirely focused on making my event a success (and she absolutely did). Our wait staff that evening welcomed us with open arms. The tables were set up properly, the menus I had pre-selected were correct and out for each of my friends to review and the service was exceptional. All of the staff seemed really invested in making my night special and that honestly meant the world to me. The atmosphere was exactly what my friends and I were looking for. We enjoyed a beautiful meal and then had the opportunity to dance the night away with a VIP booth and bottle service. Everyone enjoyed themselves and I certainly felt loved! To top things off, Heidi sent me a follow-up email to ensure everything went well that evening. Just wonderful customer service! I would recommend Marlowe's for any type of get together or party. Thank you for having us!

Surprise Bday party. I had a surprise bday party for my husband and it was a smashing success. From Heidi whom booked the reservation, to our Host TONY, our night was amazing. We had almost 30 guest and they were all so impressed with the space, the host, the food and all have plans to return. We were treated exceptional and every guest enjoyed the food. We have plans to go back and have a girls night out.

Dinner party. I just wanted to let you know we were very pleased with the service. Each and every waiter was incredibly attentive and well mannered. Great team. They pulled it off like the best of the best professionals. Class act. All of our 35 guests marvelled how wonderful the food was. Topnotch. <br/>I have never been disappointed at Marlowe's. it has always provided us with a nice transition from fine dining into party on the dance floor night club. My wife had great fun at Marlowe's on her birthday.

I have been coming to this restaurant almost monthly through 2013 to find the service, management (and specifically the manager of the location) and food steadily declining. Most recent visit included a 30 min wait for drinks, gristle served under the label of prime rib, and raw lobster that we sent back. We will never return and recommend if you are looking for food to accompany some decent wine, Marlowe's only severely disappoints!!

WORST RESTAURANT EVER. OMG, where would I begin? <br/><br/>I visited the restaurant on a second date with my boyfriend and first of all, the bouncers look us up and down almost like what are you doing here as a gay couple. I, honestly, thought that I wouldn't have to deal with homophobia in the 21st century Canada when I am outside the "Gay Village".<br/><br/>The wait staff are incompatible and the service is very slow. I have never tipped below 20% and didn't do it this time. Believe you me, I was tempted.<br/><br/>For the price, the food was tasteless, mediocre and rathe bland.<br/><br/>We didn't even stay for dessert and drinks, we just wanted to get out of there.<br/><br/>Also, the DJ is old and dated.<br/><br/>I have absolutely NO reason to ever go back in here EVER AGAIN!!!<br/><br/>I just hope that our misfortune are others luck.<br/><br/>Thank you, <br/><br/>Josh.

I had a wonderful time celebrating my 30th birthday at Marlowe. The food was incredible an the atmosphere was fantastic! I highly recommend!

Staff seated us quickly as we had made a reservation. Once seated, it took half an hour for a waiter to notice we had not been welcomed at our table as yet. Service was horrible but the waiter that did notice us made up for it. Yuri was pleasant and helped us with our selections and answered all our questions. He was very attentive. As for the food, most of it was just mediocre. Overpriced. Will not return. Nothing special or out of the ordinary. Bar staff ladies were dressed like hookers- not restaurant appropriate. It would be ok to dress like that at a bar at a club, but not a family restaurant.

Had an awful experience at this place on Saturday Night. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Besides the fact that my credit card was compromised after opening a tab at the bar... The Tuna was COLD, the mashed potatoes were absolutely BLAND and if you want to order anything but a screwdriver or another very straight forward mixed drinks, please bring your recipe with you. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL Service. And when I send an email to the owner complaining, I got just a bit shy of... well, you should have sent your mashed potatoes back

Great place to host a Bridal Shower!. My mother and sister hosted my Bridal Shower at Marlowe Restaurant on June 9th and everything went perfectly.<br/><br/>Event Coordinator, Heidi, was extremely helpful and went above and beyond for me in order to ensure a memorable event. Heidi was available whenever I needed her and responded to emails almost immediately!<br/><br/>Marlowe staff, especially Kelly and Anthony were friendly to all my guests. They all helped with every aspect of the event. Staff even assisted with setting up decorations that we had brought in for the event!! <br/><br/>Every single one of my guests have complimented on the delicious food served. All dietary restrictions or special requests were met with no problems.<br/><br/>Overall, we had a wonderful experience hosting our event at Marlowe Restaurant. I would highly recommend anyone to host their next special event at Marlowe and confidently say you will be happy with their service and attention to detail!

Amazing!. Last Friday my girlfriends and I had decided to have a girls night out and one of my friends recommended to go to Marlowe. When I got there I totally loved it. The servers were so nice and kind, and even though I had a reservation for 6 people I ended up coming with 8 people, and they still accommodated for me! I was so afraid they would tell me and my friends to leave because I brought extra people with me. So when we got in, we literally got our table in no time like it was seriously no wait at all! That also includes food too because for me I ordered the steak and I was wondering if it might take a long time but NO my food was on my table in no time. And don't even get me started on the food, oh gosh that steak was juicy and amazing I WISH I knew how to make that! And the thing that made the night out the best was that the restaurant was so beautiful. The decoration and the design itself made me happy when I was eating. I seriously loved how my friends and I could talk so easily and feel comfortable. Overall I truthfully loved it so much! I recommend for everyone to go try it out.

Impressive. Marlowe surely knows how to entertain their guests. Their commitment to excellence and the genuine nature of the staff is by far more impressive than other restaurants of their caliber - not to mention the delicious variety of dishes and drinks presented on their menu. I’ve been a customer for a few months now and have never been disappointed! <br/><br/>Mark

Great Night Out. I wanted to go out with my girlfriend somewhere cool, lively, with a good atmosphere, but I really didn’t feel like driving all the way downtown, so my brother recommended Marlowe. It was both my girlfriend and my first time there and we had a great night. The place got really busy, so we actually got really lucky having no reservations. Our waitress was really nice and bubbly, even my girlfriend liked her. I ordered the veal chop, she got the chicken caprese salad, and we shared an appetizer platter to start. The portions were huge!! The platter had everything from bruschetta to calarmari, cheese, crackers! My veal was done perfect, she really liked her salad. Then we were planning on having desserts elsewhere, but they even had Cheesecake Factory desserts. So we shared a slice of red velvet cake. The experience we had was definitely above average, a very reasonable priced restaurant. The atmosphere, deco, music, ppl, were very chic. A good place to impress on a date. The one thing that ppl might not like about it is their $10 cover after 10:00, but realistically, what’s $10 nowadays, totally worth it if u asked me. <br/>I give it a 9 outta 10.

Nice Quiet Nite~. It was Monday night and my girlfriend wanted to try something different than where we usually go (Milestones, The Keg). We live in Richmond hill and I didn’t feel like going to far so we visited East Beaver Creek because I know there’s quite a few of restaurent up there. We got there and drove around in the parking and saw “Marlowe” and decided to chance upon it. <br/>I ordered the 8oz filet mignon, medium-well which came with mashed potatoes and some veggies as sides. The steak was cooked the way I like it and my girlfriend had the mushroom rigatoni. The food’s portion was generous I’d say because I had to eat my meal and help my girlfiend with hers. Service was great and the atmosphere was nice and calm. Would consider coming back again as I hear they do nightclub music on weekends.

Amazing food, excellent service & fantastic atmosphere!. We organized a group gathering with over forty people and had the preset menu which was both delicious and very reasonably priced. The food was made fresh with attention to detail and flavour; you wouldn't think considering we had such a large group but there were many compliments among our guests. What made our evening was the great service and personalized attention our group received throughout the night. The manager on duty, event coordinator and servers were so accommodating, friendly and also ensured our guests were satisfied. We had a meeting prior to dinner and Marlowe made sure the noise level was low enough and that we weren't interrupted by other patrons. I will definitely return as the atmosphere is so fun with great lounge music, the setting is relaxed yet elegant and the service is superb! Be sure to ask for Heidi their event coordinator, Danny the night manager and servers Paul & Peter. As for the food - hands down their seafood crepes!

Amazing Atmosphere & Food. My fiancé and I just recently celebrated our engagement at Marlowe Restaurant and we had a great time! The food was great, service was amazing and quick, the staff was polite and quick to help us with whatever we needed. My guests and I really enjoyed ourselves. The atmosphere was amazing, lots of fun!!! We will definitely be going back to Marlowe's!!

Amazing Bridal Shower was had!. My mom and amazing bridal bridal party worked with the staff at Marlowe Restaurant - and with Heidi in particular - in order to host a most memorable and delightful bridal shower. The food was incredible and the guests could not stop raving about it. The staff was helpful, gracious and wonderful hosts. The entire day was beautiful. Marlowe's staff was accommodating to our needs: they let us decorate and set up as we wanted to; they let us bring in our own bakes goods for a "dessert spread" and they accommodated various guests' dietary restrictions without fuss. A truly memorable experience, I am very grateful to Marlowe for sharing this day with me and my family & friends.

I've never been so angry at a restaurant.... To make this brief:<br/><br/>- bad service -----> food, plates and silverware dropped on customers, complaints about the amount of tip after bad service, manager took 20+ minutes to come over when asked, staff ignored certain customers several times and didn't offer basics to customers once food was served, said things would be taken care of and then weren't<br/><br/>- inappropriate behaviour from staff and manager ------> for example, after the manager agreed to take care of an issue with the bill he instead went and did shots with two young girls, and the staff who provided bad service was upset that we didn't tip<br/><br/>- bad food and drinks -------> the food definitely was not worth all the hassle. It was pasta and pizza was bland, ribs were dry, the food took forever to get to the table, and when red wine came it was cold.

Birthday at Marlowe Huge Success. Before reading this review you must know I am very picky and I dont expect anything less than perfection when plannig a birthday party for myself. I chose Marlowe as the destination to celebrate my 29th birthday party last week. We were a large group of 24 people. I must say that my overall experience at Marlowe can only be described as "perfection". We had a delicious meal, followed by some drinks and dancing. I have been to countless restaurants/lounges in this area as well as in the Toronto/Downtown district - they do not compare to the great experience at Marlowe. This is what services is all about.<br/><br/>Food: Fantastic taste, high quality, very reasonably priced.<br/>Service: Extremely friendly staff, accomodating and helpful. Very knowledgable about wine selection; took the time to explain the selection to some of the picky wine drinkers in our party.<br/>Music: Very good variety, good quality speakers, music was not too loud that you cant even have a conversation or hear someone talk.<br/>Crowd: Great crowd, everyone just out to have a fun night.<br/><br/>Kudos to the staff at Marlowe there is not a doubt in my mind that I will be back before the end of the month for another night out. I am glad we have a place to go like Marlowe rather than haulin everyone downtown. Driving downtown can be a real doozy, especially in the winter.

5th time dining and liked it, but perplexed. I am certainly not sure of what to make of the reviews of the Marlowe. I decided to go to this site to place a review which reflects the culinary experience in which it could be categorized as best and true as a culinary taster is suppose to. I have been to this restaurant on a number of occasions and decided to be unbiased reviewer. I decided to seek out some of the points in which the reviews of the previous persons reflected. Given that the web site reflects casual fine dining and to get feel of their experience in casual fine dining as what it should reflect. Various reviews reflect they have a Sommolier and they have time limits and when in attendance I asked for this Sommolier from an older guy named Larry and was greeted with a wine list of over 180 wines. Being a culinary person and not wanting to expose myself ,I can say for sure the sommolier is well knowledgeable. The servers have some knowledge, but upon questioning was referrred back to the sommolier. I re-read their web site and they never claimed all the staff are Sommoliers, so i dont see the fuss with this . Why print the previous persons comments if its not true or one can't verify whether this is true or false. Maybe urbanspoon should go to each establishment themselves or send someone to the restos they are commenting about before allowing mocking comments. The sommolier indicated he is only there on wed, thurs, friday and saturdays. Not sure why a person without knowledge in the past reviews all of a sudden decided they were a sommolier and he wasnt. Its very plain to see his credentials are of a wine sommoiier . I quizzed the sommolier and he is a nice man and apparently was in the wine accessory biss previous to being hired there. I also found out they (the marlowe) have a e-commerce online wine store named Marlowe Wine Store. This nite turned out to be a four hour nite from 7 pm until 11.00 in which we started with 2 glasses of wine recommended by the sommolier and the wine was the right temperature with nice stemware . When we were greeted, we were asked if we were dining or just for drinks and were seated accordingly. After indicating we were dining we were greeted by a mid 20s server with a bread basket with butter which was warm and tasty. The server seemed friendly and attentive and we asked her about the restaurant and mentioned some of the negative reviews. She did say she was aware of this .(maybe we shouldnt have mentioned this to get the true service, but nevertheless this is what happened sincerely) She indicated she had been working there for 2 years and that the area competetion was tough with 6 restos of various sorts. She indicated the Marlowe is the only late nightclub atmophere where you could dance and had a downtown feeling with Lazers and a DJ. She indicated the marlowe had been there for 7 plus years and lots of the competetion had previously failed or were fresh new restaurants trying to make it. Seemed like she new the area quite well. She indicated lots of competetion would like to see the restaurant fail as they are the second busiest after the keg steakhouse which has a strong busy business presence in the same complex. She was pleasant and indicated she worked at Moxies (similar concept) which she also liked to work at one time. She indicated most of the other restaurant employees ended up at marlowes as most of the other restaurants closed or winded down around 11pm and the marlowe was the hotspot. She indicated "it was a shame as she knew from working at other restaurants from the gosip that the other owners were jealous of marlowe as the marlowe was the only independant nightclub which was very busy in the vacinity". She indicated "her parents often ate at the marlowe" and the Marlowe is casual fine dining and in her parents opinion " put out a good fresh meal with decent service and never claimed to be high end". She indicated "it got really busy after 11pm as it turned into and she used the word " montreal style dinner club". She wasn't wrong and they did turn over the tables as we noticed later that evening. I was reading the reviews and noticed people complained and were notified the table was for 2 hours and they had other reservations. Since we weren't in the party section we were never asked about this or told we had to give up our table. The server indicated "the rear of the restaurant was for parties and it gets so busy that the second table turn was for those who came for the dinner club waiting for the night club portion". Our ordered appetiser did come out and we had a goat cheese salad to split. The salad was plentiful and nicely dressed with raspberry vinigrette. The server seem to know when to ask us whether we wanted another drink and wasnt pushy. The main course came as within a timely manor. We dont keep time as we are not at a fast food place and just like to enjoy our enviroment. I never exepect the food in 15 minutes when 300 people are in the place,as this means it was likely nuked. It came fresh and hot. I had the ribs which were tangy tasty and plentiful. I did need a bib and lots of napkins as the ribs were basted heavily as it turns out just the way i like them. My partner had a fish special which was tasty, not over cooked with rice pilaf and asparagus. The rice was steamy and the veggies were crispy. Our desert was chocolate explosion which we split. We have had this at other restaurants and it was samelike, but we dont like lots of desert. The plate was dressed nice with some sauces and mint. There was at least 250 people in the restaurant by this time at 8.45 and the music and ambiance was fine. From time to time a manager passed by as well as other servers and they worked as a team. I am not sure really what all these bad reviews are all about as we are normal folk and never witnessed any of the previous negative reviews that I see on this site. .Maybe some things sometimes go wrong, but we think these other reviews were drama inflicted . Did and does things go wrong? Based on our previous expereinces we again doubted this as this was our 5th or 6th time we were at this resto. Not once during this time did we have a negative experience. We moved and gave them the table as we were politely given the bill when we were asked if we wanted anything else. We moved to the lounge part of the restauarant and it got very busy. The premise apparently was to turn from a restaurant to night club and thats exactly what happened at around 10.30 or so. We decided that we would go back on another time and I took my sister with me. We went on a wedesday night as they advertised Salsa lessons and salsa band. On purpose, to get the true just of it, I wore a french beret hat. The staff were different from the weekend . We were seated and ordered drinks and ate. Nothing changed and it was early in the evening. Eventually the resto started to fill and they taught salsa lessons. We have two left feet so just watched. The live 4 or 5 piece band came on and the people loved it.. The evening was as normal as could be. Nothing negative, no confrontations of any sort. Whats all the fuss about, to be frank , I wish that this site would verify the authenticity of these reviews because I am willing to give to my telephone number to whomever wishes to attend this restaurant and I am not afraid to say there is something amiss with this negativeity as I have been there before. Maybe I am a isolated fluke, but 6 times and no problems indicates something They don't know me. I know the business and its a shame to allow uncensored muck throwing when not nessesary . Lets see if urbanspoon posts this to really see if urbanspoon is a just for profit or posts authentic reviews like mine. I think that urbanspoon shoulkd have to go out and do a mystery guest apprearance and give their rating at each restaurant they critque to give us readers a fair shot at getting the best culinary experience. Always amazing. My first experience with Marlowe was an event. I had never done this before but it went off without a hitch because the staff were fabulous and took care of everything for me. The food and the service were spectacular and many of my guests have not only returned as diners multiple times but have hosted their own events and company parties there as well. <br/>I don't know what's going on with these people who have nothing good to say. I have never, ever had a bad experience there and don't personally know anyone who has. We all love the food, the service and the staff. Quality and class for a reasonable price every time.

After dinner drinks. never going back!. I might as well review this place too. After a brutal dinner at Melting pot, we thought we would go somewhere to forget about dinner and have a drink. It turns out that Marlow is equally pathetic. They claim to be a 'wine bar' so we thought they would be interested in having 3 nice girls come by for a drink. <br/><br/>Brutal attitudes. The somelier knows less about wine than 3 girls who have a basic understanding. All we said was "something easy to drink because we just had a horrible meal and needed to forget about it." He chose a full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon. We told him we already ate and wanted something easy to drink. Nothing too heavy. Then he said he was the one that is supposed to educate the guest on what to drink. What?<br/><br/>Goodbye Richmond Hill. Never again.

Terrible dinner experience. Went on Thursday Nov 1 with three other ladies. The manager and service was terrible. I told the manager that I would write about this night and he just smiled and said go right ahead! So do yourself a favour and pick a different restaurant. They don't deserve your business

Worst dinner experience ever!!!. I always pass by Marlowe and everytime I say I should go and try it out. And tonight was the night. My husband, daughter and I went. It looked promising until we got the food. It was not good at all. You know what, I'm not going to prolong this review--the food was bad and the service was awful. Too bad. The sign outside is just a facade of something good. Diners beware!!!

Just amazing. I know this review is a little over due. We had our engagement party at Marlowe. We rented out the entire restaurant on a Sunday for the evening in April. Management and the staff were amazing. They took great care of us the entire night. We had a buffet style dinner and the food was great. We had a few family members and the DJ go in 2 hours before hand and set up. We had a taste tasking a few weeks before so that we can pick the food and wine that we wanted. The night flew by for my fiancé and I as we were having a blast and had nothing to worry about. The only thing anyone complained about was that the party ended early because everyone was having a blast. The venue, staff, and management were perfect. Couldn’t ask for me.<br/><br/>Thank you Marlowe for making our special day nothing short of amazing.

Go for the women. It is very extremely expensive but they have more wines in glass than any other place (cost check) and the women are a total wow for us. They give you a chance to mingle and these women are easy for the pickin after a wine. But hopefully company is paying coz the price is high.

Perfectly mediocre.. Salmon was tasty but ...sooooo very greasy...it was like it was deep fried. Eggplant parm - meh. <br/>Service...for an early/slow Thursday...it wasn't outstanding but ok and our waitress was certainly pleasant.<br/>For the amount of competition in the area....I would suggest stepping it up a notch.

Best ever. I celebrated my 50th Birthday Party with 4o guests. I had never previously frequented Marlowe before this but it was highly recommended to me by a friend. From the moment I entered the establishment I was treaded with respect and friendliness, all my many concerns and needs were addressed in how I wanted my party to be set up and run. I had many venues in many high end Banquet Halls and far more expensive restaurant’s than Marlowe but none of them can compare to the quality of food, the exceptional service and attention to all of my guests needs. The atmosphere was fantastic, during dinner the DJ played soft jazzy music, so that my guests and patrons could engage in conversations, then after 10pm they cleared tables and it became a dance floor and the place evolved into a party palace. Every one of my guests commented on how fantastic everything was and would return to Marlowe again and again. One other factor that I was very impressed with is that there were no surprise charges added to my bill, trust me when I tell you that I had my share of bad experiences at the end of the night when it was time to settle up. The service did not end there; after a few days went by I received a phone call form the event coordinator asking me if I was satisfied with my venue. Needles to say Marlowe have my highest recommendations and a customer for many years to come.

Corporate Event. Held a corporate function at Marlowe. Everybody was thoroughly impressed. The food was fantastic! Creative and delicious. The service was very good; servers were attentive, freindly, and prompt. The atmosphere was great. Beautiful, inviting interior, great ambiance. Would definitely go back to hold future corportate events, and plan to take my wife to Marlowe for a romantic evening.

Worst experience I ever had in a restaurant. Went for my gf bday party. Had a reservation for 12. Even before we sat down we were told we had a two hour limit and to leave at 8. Not once but six times. After we sat down we were reminded another 6 times that we couldn't stay too long. Food was mediocre. Service was worst. The tables are so stacked together it was hard to move around. We left at 9:30 (i guess the deadline wasn't THAT important after all?)I paid for the dinner $800 and we could have spent even more on drinks. We went to Moxies after and just partied. I will NEVER will go back to Marlowe's. They didn't make me feel welcome. Their hospitality sucks!!!

Terrible Restaurant. I made reservations for 25 adults and 5 children for my dad's 70th birthday. We were told that there was a limit of 2 hours at the table when there is a large party. I mentioned that was not enough time when there is a large group but were told that it was their rule. Some of our party arrived on time 6:30 pm but some did not because of traffic. As soon as we arrived we felt very rushed! The waiters wanted us to decide on our drinks etc. even before we sat down. There were about 5 waiters serving us it was like an assembly line. As soon as you took the last bite of food your plate was gone. Two people from our party had to return their lemon talapia since it smelt and taste really bad so they had to wait for another order. Anyway exactly at 8:30 pm the manager came by our table and told us that we had to leave because they needed to set up the tables for another party. I explained to him that we had to finish our drinks, which we just did not order cocktails but 5 bottles of wine. He told us that we could finish it at the bar. I told him that he should not expect us to take our kids to a crowded bar to finish our drinks but he said we had no choice. I told him that he needed to learn to treat his customers properly and we will definitely not be coming back to his restaurant. He did not seem to care. In fact there should of been some grace time after meals. He should have never made reservations for the same time he told the other customers to leave. In fact there were other large groups there who complained about the way they were treated also. To sum this up the manager is very rude and not friendly at all. He needs to be replaced or they will definitely lose more customers hence closing the entire business down.

The reception/table seating service is terrible. Apparently you cannot sit in the dining area and must sit in the bar if u r a table of 2. We waited for a booth for an hour and then was told that tables of 3s and 4s get priority for the booths over tables of 2s. Thats ridiculous.

2nd chance - also disappointed. Last year we went to Marlowe because the Keg is packed. Food was ok and so many seats available. Then we know this is a so so restaurant.<br/><br/>Tonight, we came again as part of the company's party. the restaurant is overcharged the bill because they just care about their "gaurantee" revenue when we booked 46 dinner and eventually 44 showed up. at the same time, company's paid for 2 alcohol drinks and staff supposed to pay themselve when beyond 2 glasses. eventually Marlowe charged more than 100 tickets when we still have more than 10-20 tickets non-used. the other unreasonable thing happened is they charge separately for non-alcohol drinks instead of credit the money from the alochol drinks. it is just a rip-off.<br/><br/>food - all the medium requested prime ribs became all well done. caesar salad and the crepe desserts have no heart presentation. the romain was like throw into the dish. the crepe just fit into the round small dish.<br/><br/>order taking - seems they are not taking order professionally that causing confusion when the food get to the table.<br/><br/>need to improve "reasonable" charging but not ripping your customer.

HORRIBLE experience. Tonight we went to Marlowe Restaurant and Wine Bar to celebrate a friend's birthday. The horrible experience started with an accident - a waitress spilled a glass of red wine all over my sister, her fiancé and I. My sister's sweater, her fiancé's shirt and pants and my sweater were all ruined. This was completely an accident,, however I asked the manager to come over as I wanted him to be aware of what happened and for us to be properly compensated for the damaged clothing (discount off the bill, dry cleaning, whatever was appropriate). Although it was an accident, there were 4 pieces of clothing destroyed and I felt that something should be done. He agreed that he would do something to compensate us. <br/>When he later returned to our table, here is what he offered: We should take our clothes to be dry cleaned and if it worked (which it wouldn't as 2 of our sweaters are white and destroyed forever) and that he would take care of it. And if it didn't work THAT WE WOULD EXCHANGE INFORMATION WITH THE WAITRESS AND CONTACT HER DIRECTLY TO ASK HER TO PAY FOR OUR RUINED CLOTHING! We were in utter disbelief! I told him this was completely unacceptable that he was asking us to go after her personally for compensation and that I would not be doing that. <br/>To which he said "fine" and left. He did not return to see us, nor did he suggest or offer any other alternative.<br/>I am utterly disgusted by the behaviour of this manager. To suggest I personally go after an employee for an accident that happens in the regular course of business of a restaurant? Should I expect to have to personally work it out with the chef when he messes up my meal? And what if I injure myself in a restaurant - should I personally sue the employees for this? To ask this is ridiculous - if this is what you are asking, they do employees now need to carry their own insurance policies?<br/>I cannot believe that this manager even suggested this. I was not mad about the accidental spill, but I am FURIOUS at how this was handled. Not only was his suggestion completely inappropriate and unprofessional, but to walk away from us and not suggest anything else?<br/>Do NOT go to this restaurant. They do NOT deserve your business for the way they treat their customers and their employees. There are a TON of other restaurants in this area - do NOT go to Marlowe!

Bad customer service. 4 of our usual 12 or more went to Marlowe's East Beaver Creek last night. We've been there about 4 or 5 times in the past couple of years. Service was ok, not terrific. This time though was different. Last night they had run out of the only beer I like, was offered a substitute (of which there is none!), fussed a bit, and then "ok, for 1/2 price". Nothing was said and the beer was served. in the meantime the person across from me received her brand of beer, and found it to be flat and complained. The waiter reutned to say they were changing the keg and it would be a few minutes. Not wanting to wait, she, like me, grudgingly ordered a different brand, again saying "OK, for 1/2 price". The susbstitute beer was served and nothing said. We then found out that a 3rd person of our group of 4 had ordered a brand of beer he liked, but had received something else. So at that point I said we need to talk to the manager. Someone came, identifying himself as the manager, listed to our plight, and said he would see what he could do. The bills arrived and to our surpirse "nothing was done". At this point we felt slighted, and asked to speak to the manager again. First he could not be found when I reminded the waiter we were waiting before we considered paying any bills. Yet another person came to our table, identified herself as the "event coordinator, marketing manager", and some other titled stuff. Heard our story, had an attitude, more or less said "so what?", said they did not serve the brands we had initially ordered (it happened one of the brands we had wanted was a Molson product, and the fellow's glass next to me said "Molson"), and "it was against the liquor laws to give away or discount beer". We were surprised at this kind of "customer service". Then she offerred us a coupon for a free appetizer or dessert next time. Well, guess who's not going back there again, and I told Ms Event coordinator / Marketing Manager as much. She turned and left. Definitely not getting my business again.

Great Service. I've been there a few times and its been a great experience. My company Christmas party was there and I definitely recommend this place for corporate events. charming, price is fair and good food! What else can you ask for.

Been there twice in the last 6 months. Food was mediocre both times. It was nice of them to give us a walk-in table on a Saturday night...but it was weird to be squished into a corner right beside a booth in our obvious make-shift table. I didn't mind, but I wonder how the other table felt to have 4 extra people sharing their meal. Service was quite pleasant and the place is nice, but it still had a very chain restaurant feel to it. Overall ok, but not really for me.

FANTASTIC The food is great, and the service is even better. If you eat here ask for Johnny the waiter- he made the night for us.

It was ok. I recommended that restaurant to my friends knowing that it's a good place to celebrate a birthday. We all decided to go on a Saturday which we all know that the place will be packed. I made a reservation on Monday for Saturday 7:30 pm. We all came around 7:15 and guess what.....they can't find our reservation. I asked the Manager on what happened to our reservation and He doesn't have an answer for us instead he offered us to stay but only until 9 pm. No apologies whatsover. We all agreed to it since we're already there but the food was not served until 8:30 pm which gave us half an hour to finish our food. At exactly 9 pm our server (AMINA)informed us that the table was reserved. We told Amina that we wanted to have coffee and desert. We were now moved to another table for us to have coffee and desert (Thanks to AMINA.) and eventually lost the table we moved to because they have to set up the dance floor. What a night. Despite of everything that happened we made sure that we all have a great time which I think we did.<br/><br/>Recommendation:<br/><br/>For the Manager on Duty that evening, smile a litle more and be empathetic to your clients. What if it happens to you?<br/><br/>To Amina: Keep up the good work.

Kicked out before we even sat down.. Eleven of my friends and I made reservations to this place one Saturday for 7pm. Unfortunately, the weather was really bad making the driving conditions terrible. We were coming from downtown and were running late and didn't arrive until a bit past 7:30. During the drive there they called us and said that if our entire party of 12 isn't there in 10minutes our reservations were cancelled. We told them we were going to be there soon and we were stuck in traffic, but the hostess who called was rude and not understanding. When we all did get there within more or less in 10minutes the manager was impolite and insisted that they could not accommodate us. They said they only give customers a 10-15minute leeway if its bad weather...you know...even if it's hailing ice bricks. <br/><br/>In conclusion!<br/>The manager and the hostesses - rude, impolite, not sympathetic.<br/><br/>I wouldn't dine there if I was greeted by these people at the front door.

I had to pick from a pre-set menu due to the large table we had but I did like my main -prime rib roast beef (very tender) and dessert – chocolate brownie cake with vanilla ice cream. I think the price for the pre-set was reasonable since I did get a salad and a coffee/tea bonus with my main and dessert. All for only $27.50.
