Review Mi-ne Japanese Restaurant - Richmond Hill

Soonie Q
Superb service and fresh sushi! Only a la carte and no ayce. Been here a couple times and it’s my son’s first time here. He was handed his own boat plate without asking, appreciate the thought they had when they noticed a toddler dining in as well. Love their individual booths, more privacy and safe - they also have curtains for the booth if you prefer additional privacy.

A great little spot with fresh sushi and a large menu including lunch specials! Super friendly service and booths to sit in as well. A popular place for dine in and take out (no reservations though). Always a favorite even after all these years ❤️

We love sushi and have a high standard for it… MINE serves top quality sushi and their portions are huge! Definitely one of the best sushi spots in Richmond Hill. Highly recommend!

The staff are super friendly and nice. Portions are big, and it's a good location. This is my friend's favorite sushi place. 7/10 sushi, 9/10 service.

The Richmond Hill location is probably the best one I have ever been to. The staff is really nice and friendly and the sushi here is by far the most delicious I’ve had around the city . I have tried their other locations ( Aurora and Downton) and while also great, But the Richmond hill location to have the best quality sushi. I just wish the restaurant was bigger and could fit more people inside at a time. The best mushroom soup I've tried anywhere, ever! All the assortment of mushrooms were heavenly and the taste was perfect!. Service is excellent and they have nice cute private booths for seating. Come here often and would recommend for people of all ages who love good sushi and other Japanese dishes

This is a very busy, small, authentic and cute Japanese restaurant. They don't take reservations. The food is great. The service is very friendly. There is free parking. Thank you

Excellent quality. Fish is super fresh and tasty. Definitely would come back again.

Used to be one of my favourite sushi places but now the quality and size of the rolls have gone down. Way too expensive considering the special maki rolls are now are similar taste and size to what you’d get at an all you can eat. Left hungry and I have a small appetite. Only good thing was the service.
Tired Dragon
The food quality is good, but service is terrible. They will be with you until you get your first order, than you can't find waiter if you need something like refresh tea, bring drink etc.

I really like the quality of this place. Very large variety of unique rolls. Staff is friendly, but when they get busy they kind of fall behind. The restaurant is small without fancy interior, but still gets 5 stars for what it is.

This place is good, but not the best. The quality and freshness of the fish is certainly better than a lot of the cheap sushi places, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. I actually preferred the selection of raw fish from the meal I had from the downtown location.
Rukos
Although this place does not serve sushi in any authentic traditional Japanese way, their North American / Korean style creative sushi are good in their own way.

I was in search for a good sushi restaurant uptown because my usual go-to sushi joint used to be Gonoe which was good but didn't really have that wow factor. I had seen some great reviews for Mi-Ne Sushi and was very excited to try it out. The restaurant is quite small so you may have to wait a bit to get a seat depending on the time you go, but the two times we went (which was late) we had no problems getting a seat. The servers are very friendly and accommodating by helping us choose items from their menu. From the two times we've been to this restaurant, we've tried their Love Boat (sashimi, nigiri sushi and rolls), Ocean Smoke Roll, Golden Dragon Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Kalbi appetizer and spicy chicken dinner.

Ordered a lover’s course, the spicy one. The spicy chicken dinner was not good. Chicken appears to be prepackaged. The veges were still not cooked enough. The onions were not browned. I don't understand how it has decent reviews. The sushi rolls were ok and stuffed spicy soft shells, but it should have at least one more variety. Overall, I went to this place thinking it was good because of all the 4.0 and higher reviews but it was a letdown. I guess, if people come here, only order sushi, not the dishes. The sushi order is enough to make you full because they put a lot of rice and a lot of stuffing. Will I ever come again, nope, since I know there are other locations that have better food. I think the reviews before me are dishonest or they are fake. If this restaurant wants customers to come back, they need to make the plates taste good using fresh meat.

We wanted sushi for dinner on a late Saturday night but, it was too cold to go out and almost too late for delivery.

My girlfriend ended up recommending ordering a take-out from this place which is about 20 minutes away from home but, she insisted it was worth it.

So, we called them less than an hour before closing time and they accepted the order (they seem to take orders all the way to closing time as long as you can make it on time).

We ordered the "Love Boat" combination platter which is pictured on the site but not described on the menu. However, it seemed to include enough for us, about 20 roll pieces (or 3 rolls), 8 pieces nigiri sushi and plenty of sashimi (about 26 pieces). It also comes with 2 miso soups and 2 small green salads.

After the 40 minutes round-trip, we finally had our sushi on our table. Was it worth the drive? Yes! The quality and freshness of the seafood was great and the whole tray was more than enough to fill us up! The miso soup was very tasty and the salad was a nice complement.

The only negative thing about this platter is that there were two types of seafood that were only sampled once (e.g. there was only 1 piece consisting of surf clam). This is a good platter to share between two so, it makes sense to have at least two samples of each seafood type.

Besides that, it would be nice to choose your preferred rolls (may cost extra) but, we didn't ask neither.

Price wise, I think it was right at about $55 + taxes.

Unhappy with the dinner portion size for the unagi. it costs $17 and I got a pathetic amount of eel with the equivalent of half a bowl of rice in the fancy little Japanese box they put it in. I wish this was made clear in the menu or else I would have never ordered it.

And it was a very standard unagi rice dish as well. Nothing spectacular. Will not return here.

Dinner with wife. Worse service ever!
As we stepped into the restaurant nobody put attention at all for the next 7 minutes, and no, it was not too busy.
All the empty tables are full of dirty dishes.
The food was very good.

I have never taken a panorma picture for food before, but I took my first one here because the sushi rolls here at Mi-Ne was so large that it wouldn't fit in a normal picture.

The only thing I heard about this restaurant is that it is expensive. I fully understand why now. Their sushi rolls are MASSIVE.

We started off with some green tea and this sushi platter. We ordered a small size, and opted for all salmon (luckily all four of us were salmon lovers). It came with 18 nigiri rolls, 3 spicy salmon rolls, 3 california rolls, and a tempura roll. Just typical sushi, nothing outstanding.

We also ordered the Boston Roll, which had spicy salmon, cucumber, crab meat, tobiko & avocado inside. And the Orangeville (a crowd favourite, and also the first roll out of the 30 that popped out to me). This one was a spicy scallop roll, wrapped with fresh salmon, tobiko & avocado.

Each roll came with 9 pieces.

I was super full after all this food, and it didn't even seem much for four people! The only thing was that they did not serve you green tea ice cream, like usual Japanese restaurants. It left me with a green tea ice cream void that I needed to fill. Other than that, the service was good and the food is definitely worth the price given the size of each piece of sushi if you order the maki rolls :) (Orangeville roll is the best!!!)

One of the best in the area. Place is a bit small but food is good. However, we waited a while for our rolls (dynamite, green dragon). It wasn't too busy but they probably wanted to serve them at the same time.
If you live in the area, it's worth the walk.

Best Sushi in the GTA!. I have dined at many many Sushi restaurants all over the GTA. Mi-Ne Sushi offers by far the freshest & tastiest Sushi & Rolls in the GTA!! It's gotten to the point where I refuse to eat Sushi any where else. I even got my wife & son hooked on Mi-Ne quality sushi. Their menu of "Mi-Ne Signature Maki/Rolls" provides you with a ton of tasty options.... be sure to try their OrangeVille Roll & Golden Dragon Roll. Their California Roll is huge, and filled with the good stuff like avocado & crab, and not too much rice (like those other Sushi joints). I also enjoy their Sashimi Appetizer (13 large pieces of fresh Sashimi for only $14). If you do take out on the weekends, be sure to call at least 30 min's before, as it is packed & busy given it's popularity! The chefs and staff are always very friendly, and even remember me every time I visit :) Cheers, Nav

High quality sushi. Maki rolls are huge for one, sashimi is also fresh and the mushroom soup /udon was one of the best I've had despite the restaurant specializing in sushi. The servers were quick and efficient - I can understand why this restaurant has so many regulars. I'll be back!

Disappointed. I've been a loyal customer to MiNe for over 8 years. The food is good always fresh, staff is nice and willing to accommodate your requests as long as you pay. However when I made an order today and went to pick up. The male waiter said to me that this is the last time they will cater to my order. I was so upset. The new staff became snobby and full of attitude. I returned my order and will never go to that location again! The founder of mi ne is sushi is back in the GTA they own several locations in aurora and downtown and just opened up a location in Markham. I will be seeing alot more of them even when that location is not close to home.

Prety Good. Overall experience was very good. food was fresh service was so so. I would definitely recomend the food. Will visit again shortly.

HORRIBLE SERVICE..NEVER AGAIN. We have been loyal customers for many years, but ever since the new owner took over, this place is not the same. We walked in to have lunch and were offered to share the booth with other people. They wouldn't let us use other empty booths as they were holding it for more a party of than 2 people. The waiter /host was not cortious and his attitude was clearly showing that they don't care if they get our business. As we were walking out very disappointed, they didn't try to actually accommodate us and obviously we didn't get any apology. NEVER AGAIN I will come back and give them my money. Not to mention that the roll are not as good as they used to be when previous owners were there. Don't go there as they don't appreciate your money and your business!

Best sushi! Excellent service.

BEST SPICY SALMON MAKI. I'm so glad this sushi joint exist near where I live! I can't get over how spanking delicious their spicy salmon rolls maki are. I tend to judge my sushi restaurants based on how they make their spicy salmon & this place fits the criteria. Their jumbo california roll is also delicious!!!

Alena Dubinsky. Not recommended!

Outstanding maki rolls. I order the mango salad roll the most, it's a definite must-try! Their portions are impressive, and they don't go overboard on "fillers" like rice and cucumbers. Definitely a regular spot for dine-in and great for takeout when they're super busy, which is very often!

Will definately be back for more.... We arrived just less than an hour before closing but did not feel rushed or pressured at all. Food was amazing, this is what you want from a sushi restaurant (NOT all you can eat) but fresh, tasty sashimi, sushi and terriyaki! We will definately be back, no doubt!

If you dislike the food you are either poor or have zero concept for good sushi. This place TRUMPS all over sushi restaurants in the GTA + and I have around 30-40 sushi restaurants under my belt. TRY THE GREEN DRGON ROLL AND SPICY DYNAMITE !

Great Restaurant!. I came here with my family during the weekday, and was definitely not disappointed. The food was incredible, with the sushi and sashimi tasting extremely fresh. The quality of the food was wonderful, and the service was timely and polite. The food came quickly, and the servers were always smiling, and were very polite towards my family and myself. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anybody that enjoys good food, and I know that I will definitely be returning!

The worst Service in Japanese and Korean restaurant business. I have been there a couple of times. The food is ok but the service, so so bad.
All of the wait staff are so arrogant.
They never smile.
Attitude and service are not definitely Japanese or Korean.
Would rather get a take out than eat in and tip them for the service I never get.
Circle Of Life
Mi Ne is now my favorite sushi restaurant. I recommend you reserve a booth before you go. Food was amazing and fresh. I loved the orangeville maki, bbq eel maki, and spicey salmon maki. Also had their 13 assorted sashimi which was amaaaaaazing. Definitely will go back. Just a little on the pricey side, but well worth it. Funny thing, our server's name was soy like as in soy sauce lol. She was super nice to us, and brought us an extra saki bottle cause found out it was my gfs birthday.

Lunch sushi set, great taste, fresh and price is right.

Excellent. This is a nice, spacious restaurant with good decor, though the parking lot is awkward to get in and out of. The sushi and sashimi are really well put together with supple fish and excellent rice. The iso soup is a bit salty, but who gets only miso soup?
Diana
Super fresh product, friendly sushi chefs although servers could be more welcoming and cramped location (off Yonge). Food is well worth the higher cost.
Boris
Ordered take out. Very very expensive! I asked to add 10 pcs sashimi to my tray and they charged me more than $20! Sushi and sashimi taste good. But small. More than $2 per piece of sashimi is too much. I like Shiki sushi (south of Elgin mills rd) much more.
W
The price is more expensive than other places I've been to but the rolls are significantly bigger. The sashimi is also very fresh and the menu is full of variety.

The service can be a bit slow depending on how busy they are but still tolerable. All in all, one of my favorite sushi place I've been to.

This place is awesome!! Although its priced higher, its soo worth it! Fav rolls are polar bear and boston roll!

Go To Sushi Place That Remains High End. Yes people for the last time it is expensive but for very fresh fish and incredibly sushi delivered direct from Japan Mi Ne is everything. The source of the fish is Japan and the might Mi Ne is best thought of as a Sushi restaurant for very special occasions. They also welcome you in their native tongue when you enter.Try their rolls and don't forget to ask for free fruit at dessert.

Great experience in Richmond Hill!. The service was great from the get-go! We were served quickly and efficiently, and the waitress had a wonderful attitude. Compared to other restaurants, Mine sushi had the best tasting sushi that I have ever had. They had an incredible array and variety of food, and I was extremely surprised. The sushi was fresh and tasty, while the presentation didn't lack anything as well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant any day, and I am now a frequent guest!

My fave sushi place in the 905. A bit pricy but worth it as the fish is the freshest. Husband and I always leave stuffed so the portions are pretty good.

Do NOT go here with a group!! They will kick you out after one hour regardless if you've finished eating. We were having a thank you party for some dear friends and MI NI forced us out while we were still eating!! What ticks me off is that we even had reservations!!! They did not care that it took them 15 minutes before they took our order and another 15 minutes to bring out our food. As far as they were concerned - you've been sitting here taking up a booth for one hour - whether or not you've finished eating is irrelevant. They are more concerned about taking your money and churning customers through that place. The manager was even rude about. No consideration for the fact that it was an important event and that we were never told about their ridiculous rule. How 10 of us could eat in 30 minutes (after you factor in their delays) is beyond me. I've never been told to get out of a restaurant while I was still eating. They are rude and ignorant!!! Not to mention that they embarrassed me in front of my guests. This horrible experience was the last straw of terrible service I've received from them. Their service SUCKS!!!! They have gotten too busy for their own good and just care about whisking you in, taking your money and whisking you out so they can sit the sale down.

Hands down! The best sushi place period. Don't bother with other "roll the dice" sushi joints. Want fresh, tasty, authentic sushi? Look no further! A+

Mi Ne is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. It is very little but the food is always fresh and very good. Their Bento Boxes are always a good order..

Amazing!. I love going to Mine! The staff are so friendly. You are greeted with a smile as soon as you walk in!! The food is amazing. You know they are using fresh ingredients!!! Simply the best I have ever tasted!!!!

Absolutely amazing! It is a little more pricey, but it's worth the money - very fresh and delicious. I was surprised that the sizes of the rolls were actually quite big. The restaurant is small but cozy and very nicely decorated. I went for lunch on a weekday and it wasn't packed but was pretty full, might want to make reservations if I were to go for dinner or on the weekends.

Amazing!!. Simply amazing!! The sushi is the best I have ever tasted!!! Every time I have ordered I have never been disappointed.. When you walk in you are always greeted with a smile!!! They are an amazing bunch!!!! Thank you for the fantastic food!!!!
Nika
Overrpriced. All the items are pretty overpriced. The food isn't even that fresh. Yuzu is still the best sushi in Toronto. I'd definitely recommend Yuzu over this place for those of you who really know your sushi!!!
Tinor
Fresh. Tasty. Excellent.. Hands down, my favourite sushi place in the 905 area. Delicious options for vegetarians and even those who are picky non-sushi eaters. Always busy, always fresh and always worth it! My only pet peeve is that it takes so long to get a waitresses attention, but they are all very polite. Otherwise, perfection.

Excellent food. I actually found this place on Urbanspoon so I feel obligated to write a review here.
The 3 of us ordered a seaweed salad, a Mi-Ne Sashimi set, orangeville roll and jumbo California Roll.
The sashimi was very fresh and large pieces. The Orangeville roll was very unique, with spicy scallops. The California Roll was, well, jumbo. One thing about these rolls is they are not tightly rolled, or perhaps because the rolls were packed with the ingredients but not too much rice, they are loose. So everything falls apart if you don't eat it in 1 bite.
Alex Vo
I'm not really a picky person, but this is the worst sushi place I've been to. I got the love boat and the only thing decent was the salmon sashimi. All the other sashimis were just awful. The maki rolls are so big to the point where you can't even eat it all in one mouthful. I don't know what all the good reviews are about. Yes, the service is good, but the food is terrible.
Rob M
Good food, very well presented. Fresh. Expensive but worth it.
CrabbyD
Food was excellent but the place is small so reservations are recommended. Service is also very good.

89% of 265 votes can't be wrong. Just went with my hubby for my birthday dinner and MiNe is as good as the reviews suggest! We got the "spicy lovers' dinner" (hah!) and it was great. Tons of food, so it's well worth every penny. Sushi and tempura quality is top notch, but the mushroom soup is what blew me away. If you like mushrooms, you will love this soup. That could have been my whole meal. I'm definitely coming back to try a more stuff off the a la carte menu. We got there just before the rush, so we were seated right away, but if you go for dinner, expect to wait for a table.
Tami
Love love love. I was first introduced to Mi Ne in my first year of university, and since then the quality of this restaurant has barely changed. The lack of change is an amazing feat from a restaurant that is looked at so highly considering we often see restaurants slowly decrease in quality over the years.

The sushi is worth the money and wait. I prefer going during lunch time than for dinner as to avoid crowds, but over all looooove it!

Best restaurant ever!!!!!!. This restaurant is one of the best restaurant i've ever been to cause i love seafood especially callifornia rolls.
BEST RESTAURANT EVER!!!!!!!!

Great food!. I had a Chicken Zen combination dinner and it was very good with the sushi and the California roll. Their tempura was decent. I've also ordered a mushroom soup as an appetizer and it's one of the best ones I've had! Definitely would go back there again!

Yum! Portion sizes were good. Although they seemed under staffed, but the service and food compensated for that by far! AND they had a separate container for the soy sauce when we asked for a box at the end of our meal. Will come back for sure!

-----13 Sep, 2010-----

Yum! !! Orangeville Roll !!. The Richmond Hill location of this restaurant has great sushi -- fresh, good quality fish, and beautifully presented. Delicious food and attentive service. The sushi chefs know what they're doing!

As the title of the review suggests, I highly recommend the orangeville roll -- I almost missed ordering this one based on the name of the roll (I didn't read the description because I was hungry and was just skimming the menu lol) but saw the next table's awesome looking roll and had to have it. Was so excited about it that I coined it my favorite roll of all time (this is coming from someone who eats copious amounts of sushi). Can't wait to have it again. =)

Amazing. I used to live in Tokyo.. this restaurant has better Japanese food than all of Japan.

Best rated in Toronto, if not Japan.

Go!!!!! PS LOTS of options for vegetarians!!
Brendan Burge
The best sushi in southern Ontario! Always fresh with a very creative menu. The owners and staff are very friendly and the restaurant is always busy.
Michael Guinane
The best sushi in Richmond hill.

Nothing special. Food was blah..... Nothing wrong..... Just nothing worth raving about.

I just went to Mi Ne sushi for dinner with my girlfriend and we got amazing food quickly! I ordered the beef teriyaki and she ordered the vegetarian bento box both with green tea. The food came and was top quality and there was a lot to eat. It tasted 10/10 and was only $36 in total. I am definately going back there commonly but it's closed on Mondays. The Japanese culture in the restaurant was very much like Japan itself. This is one fantastic restaurant.

It was one of those days where no one at work wanted to eat their home packed lunch. Boss tempted me with the idea of having sushi, and it has been 3 months I have had it. How can I turn down the offer. Mi Ne Sushi is located in a plaza at the busy Elgin Mills and Yonge St intersection. Surrounded by industrial and residential communities, they have a steady and fast growing clientele. Parking is limited in the plaza, but I noticed the business the restaurant generated. They were extremely busy and had a fast turn over rate. It has a typical sushi or Japanese restaurant decor made of wood panels and a sushi making bar. No surprises and funkiness to the outlook. It is more realistic than being creative. The ladies and sushi chefs were extremely helpful and nice. I was studying the menu , trying to make a decision on what to order. A server came to introduce the combo lun

Up north around Yonge and Elgin Mills we have a petite Japanese restaurant that serves excellent sushi. Good gracious they have the best udon in the uptown area.

The spicy salmon rolls were huge! It was still possible to fit a whole one into your mouth but you really had to make sure your mouth was kept closed to chew it all down.

When the sushi arrived, I couldn't help smiling from ear to ear.

My next destination for my sushi quest brought me to Mi•Ne Sushi at Yonge and Elgin Mills. Interestingly, I went to a restaurant also called Mi-Ne Sushi in Hong Kong last year, but the two are obviously not related. Regardless, after reading many positive reviews, I had pretty high expectations for this restaurant. Mi•Ne Sushi had a very large menu, including many interesting maki that I would love to try. Most combos came with salad and miso soup. One complaint was that the wait staff neglected to serve us tea even after our food arrived. I came with a group of friends, so I also took pictures of their meal. This was the chicken teriyaki zen combo with shrimp and vegetable tempura, 3pcs nigiri sushi and 3pcs California roll and a bowl of rice. One of the maki combos included 6pcs of spicy tuna roll , spicy scallop roll and California roll each. I sampled the spicy tuna and spicy scallop roll, although I really couldn't differentiate between the two spicy rolls. My friend complaine

One of our go to Japanese restaurants in Richmond Hill. It's a small restaurant that is always busy so I would suggest making reservations. The sashimi is very fresh and they have very good maki rolls which are very generously portioned. My favourite is the Orangeville maki.
