Review Jim Chai Kee Noodle - Richmond Hill

Jim Chai Kee used to be my place to go for noodles with great quality and price... $7 per bowl of Wonton noodle soup now cost $12! What a shock! Got my takeout on Saturday and barely anyone inside the restaurant around noon when it is a supposingly busy time... I don't get how Covid justify 71% increase within 2 years?!?!? Maybe Covid got to the owner's head and think that $12 CAD (equivalent to $74 HKD) for a bowl of wonton is reasonable đŸ˜¶đŸ˜”đŸ˜”â€đŸ’«đŸ„Ž Won't be returning anytime soon!

Food quality is still as delicious as ever. Definitely my go-to comfort food. The price is insane, but understandable considering the last 1.5 yrs. Literally each item is $12. I understand that this just pushes you to get a noodle with topping to get your money's worth. You prepay for your food in the back now. You take a seat at any unoccupied table and wait for your name to be called. You pick up your food at the counter where you ordered. Food is served in plastic containers with disposable chopsticks/spoons. You can dispense your own condiments into small plastic containers and bring it to your table. (Caution: the hot sauce is really spicy! But very yummy). Tea and hot water is still self serve in the back. When done eating, you clear your own table and tray. There is a cart and large garbage can where you can throw garbage and leave your tray. While eating, I did notice a staff member coming out to sanitize the used tables. I see a lot of negative comments about the hospitality aspect of this establishment. I used to think that they were loud/rude, until I realized that that's just what they sound like normally, even when happy/excited, their tone is the same. They have always been nice to me, my family and my friends. I highly recommend this restaurant, but be mindful of the price increase. Always try the hot sauce.

This location is essentially a self serve restaurant where you order and pay first, and then find a table. You get your own water and condiments (chili oil, vinegar) at the back of the restaurant. Their menu is really expensive if you get anything other than the noodle with the most toppings. A regular that the staff recognized immediately came in and ordered plain noodles with no toppings and it still cost them the same flat price as $12. Totally disproportionate pricing (it's maybe $4 at other shops), especially for a regular. We got the 3 topping noodle and a wonton fish paste noodle, both with added veggies. The portion sizes are huge and if you add veg, they do add a lot. Unfortunately the wontons lacked the dried flounder (ć€§ćœ°éš) flavour, and the fish paste was mixed with too much flour so it was doughy. The broth also lacked the shrimpy complexity typical of wonton noodle soups. The sliced beef was good. Big Trio and Wonton Hut are far superior.

Menu is simple to understand, all noodles are $12. Add $2 for dine veggie. If you dine in, they will check your vaccine record. Self serve style. There’s hot water station and sauce station. Food came hot and good portion. I ordered wonton only abs it came with 8 golf ball sized wonton. They also have raw wonton for sell at $18 a dozen. I find it I expensive as cooked version is $12 for 8 piece. No music at all and the restaurant has a strange vibe when it’s dead silence.

One of Richmond hill's finest takeout spots. Despite how quick the service is (call them and they'll prepare your order in 10 mins for takeout), the wontons, noodles and broth always taste unbelievably fresh and flavorful. The portions are sizable. Pictured is the delicious shrimp and beef wonton lo-mein soup. Give it a shot if you haven't tried it out. You won't regret it.

This place is a self serve restaurant where you order, pay and find your own table. You get your own water and condiments (chili oil, vinegar) at the pick up table. No condiments for take out as said on the sign. Food is still good. Their menu is insanely expensive. Everything on menu is $12, even a plate of Plain veggie.

Food is still ok but this was not an enjoyable dining experience at all. There were absolutely no service other than someone yelling from behind the counter telling you what to do. They blame the changes on the public health department, but I find it hard to believe as what they are doing seem to only protects themselves rather than the customers. All the customers need to walk to the counter to place their orders, get their own condiments and water from the communal dispensers at the front and clean up the table themselves before leaving. There is a lot of unnecessary traffic and contact with high touch surfaces in the restaurant because of that. I am not even sure if they came out from behind the counter to disinfect the tables or any of the shared dispensers between customers. The tables are also not adequately separated with only about a foot between some seats. They have also increased the price drastically (from $7 to $12/bowl) and implemented a number of menu changes that don't make any sense at all. I will not come back again.

Extremely good wonton with unbeatable prices. One of the classic hidden gems restaurants in the area, been in business for long time.
Renovated not too long ago.
Self serve tea and hot water, Cash only.

Found in the Jubilee Plaza on Highway 7 and West Beaver Creek is the two decade old Hong Kong style noodle shop, Jim Chai Kee Noodle Shop. They have attracted many oriental clientele from the surrounding diverse neighbourhoods. I was introduced to this eatery through a family friend twenty years ago. Whenever I have a crave, you will find me slurping on the noodles from this noodle house.

Jim Chai Kee is located in the same plaza with Golden Court Abalone restaurant and Yu Seafood. Parking in this plaza was really bad (especially at lunch time)

Restaurant was medium size with simple tables and chairs. The style was very laid back and relaxed with no decor themes at all. Do not expect much for presentation! Service: The menu was very simple with graphics of the food options. Drinks (water, tea) were obtained by yourself at the end of the restaurant. The servers were quick to pick up orders. To pay for the menu, you had to go up to the front desk of the restaurant.

Awesome Wontons here! Not just simple and affordable, but the quality of the product is great. Their Wontons are packed full of shrimp and is complimented very well by their homemade chili oil (available for purchase).

A great little place for bowls of noodle-y Hong Kong comfort food. The options are simple — for noodles you pick from egg noodles, rice noodles, or vermicelli; for toppings you pick from wontons, beef slices, or "fishballs". This place is famous for their hand-made wontons stuffed with huge, super-fresh prawns. Be sure to try it! Don't forget to order a dish of "choi" (veggies). The food comes out at lightning speed (avg wait time 2 min); it's just enough time for you to visit the back and pour yourself a cup of hot tea. My parents love this place because with its low prices, quick service, and simple ingredients, it reminds them so much of classic Hong Kong noodle shops.

Simplistic and tasty, this place gives you your quick noodle fix. Every time I go I get the wonton noodles with sliced beef. Every thing is cheap and comes out quickly so you can have a bite for $10 in under 15 minutes.

From my last month of reviews, it's clear I like my soup noodles. I could slurp down a bowl for every meal and still crave more. Lucky for me, The Hubby almost feels the same. Either way, he's been indulging me as I drag him to all the GTA noodle shops. Next up, Jim Chai Kee near Highway 7 and Leslie.

Talk about simplicity in a bowl! Sometimes that is all you need for a delicious and satisfying meal... Their menu is plain and simple as well, making them focus on their specialty more and for a super fast meal for those in a rush. I always order the plain egg noodle with wonton and a side of veggie. You can never go wrong! Just remember that they are closed Wednesdays... we learned it the hard way!

Wonton Shrimp and Beef Egg Noodle. Wonderful

A tasty shrimp wonton (skip everything else on the spartan menu) dive with curt, quasi service.. If memory serves me correctly, this eating joint has been at this location for over 10 years. The first time I had lunch here was on a weekend and the eatery was packed. I was asked if I would not mind sharing a table. This means a shorter wait time but it also means you sit at a table with complete strangers and like it or not, get to hear each others' conversations. Parking was a problem and the wait time was more than 30 minutes. Ironical, as the sit-down eating time is less than the wait time. Note that when the bill is slapped onto the table in front of you, that you are being bluntly prompted to vacate the table

The second time was several years later, also on a weekend. This time the restaurant was not packed even though it was nearing noon and neither was the parking lot. Noticed this less busy trend common amongst the Chinese restaurants in that neighbourhood.

Come here for the shrimp wonton noodles ($6 plus 13% tax, CASH ONLY!) and pass on everything else. Beware that the server will try to up sell you a dish of (boiled) vegetables doused with vegetable oil and oyster sauce (more MSG), my recommendation is to pass on this. Focus on the shrimp wonton which are large, tasty morsels. I find the portions average. A big hungry man may need two bowls to really fill up ($12 plus 13% tax, cash only).

Self serve hot water and tea with a limit of "one styrofoam cup per customer".
Come here for the shrimp wonton and or shrimp wonton noodles and not for the non-existing decor, curt service, short sit down time, nor variety. Self serve pay.

Be prepared to fork out CASH ONLY. This restaurant uses hand scrawled order sheets/receipts and does not provide a receipt unless one asks. I observed that the cash register is not used. One pays at the counter where one also finds a strategically placed tip tray. Hey I served myself tea, already paid you cash for the meal and sales tax with no receipt what more do you want?

New Location at Scarborough. They opened a new store in Scarborough. It's at Midland amd McNicoll where the RONA plaza is. It's equally as good if not better, and most importantly, they are much closer to 401 and easier for me when driving in or out of the town.

The definition of quick, down, and dirty. Waitress at your table before you sit down, food out in 3 minutes. But all for $6 max per person and plenty of food. Small menu and really tasty. Not a destination place but if you're in the area and looking for something quick...it's a great option.

Famous for just their wonton noodles... But that's pretty much all they sell LOL

The place is pretty no frills such as with many Chinese establishments. Basic tables and chairs and no decor. But who goes to Chinese places for the ambiance anyways?

The basic wonton noodle soup ($4.50) comes with one topping (choice of shrimp wontons, fish balls, or beef). Although I was craving just shrimp wontons, the temptation of variety took over, and I added a second topping (fish balls) for an additional 50 cents.

In my bowl came two shrimp wontons and three fish balls. Had I ordered one topping, I would have had four shrimp wontons, regret immediately set in. The feeling of regret was more immense after I tasted the fish balls. They were large, seasoned well and looked like they were made from scratch but they were way too fishy for my liking! I thought non-fresh fish

It’s simply a bowl of noodles with three toppings to choose from. That’s what Jim Chai Kee Noodle is all about. This restaurant started way back in 1994 so it has a lot of history, loyal customers, a solid fan base, and lots of bowls of wonton noodles served over these 20 years!

These Shrimp Wontons rank with the best that I've had, not to mention they're big as toddler's fists...

Quick service and food at Jim Chai Kee Noodle and the wontons were really good!

Jim Chai Kee is everything a good wonton noodle place should be, quick, affordable, delicious, and absolutely no frills. Highly highly recommended! :)

Awesome cheap food. Ridiculously big wontons and fish balls. $5 for noodles and 3-4 wontons and/or fish balls. Sounds like a small amount of food, but was super full afterwards. They make their own noodle, wontons, and fish balls. The noodles are chewy; just perfect. The wontons are loaded with shrimps. And the fish balls do not have the "fishy" taste or smell to them.
The soup has a distinct shrimp flavor; very sweet.

The place is very homey; reminds me of a family restaurant in HK. Service is super fast and efficient. We were in, seated, ordered, ate, paid and out in less than 15 minutes. That's fast!

The price is really reasonable. $5.5 per bowl of noodles. The super big wanton is really good. They hv a whole shrimp inside which is "crunchy". One should try it and get this super good experience. Big guy may find the noodle portion small, but you can add noodles. ???? they don't have many choices. besides wanton, they have dumplings, beef and fresh made fish balls. You can even bought the fresh made wanton and dumplings and cook it at home! $1 each!
