Review Spices Of Punjab - Regina

James Funk
Experiencing a -37C January in Regina was worth it to get the chance to eat at this place. Customer service needs work, but honestly, who cares. Every dish I tried was perfect, the naan were perfect. The care and attention put into the dishes this kitchen puts out makes me want to fly back to Regina...maybe in summer next time

We visited the restaurent yesterday and had a great experience. The food was really good and spicy as our requirement. The quantity was also good. The customer service can get little more professional. There was alot of disturbance from the kitchen cooks and servers, talking loud and we got distracted a couple of times, while spending our quality time together. Only one thing if they can change and be more professional would be great!!! I will recomend this restaurent if you want good food, according to your taste!!

Ordered $63 worth food from this place. The first thing I saw when I opened my burger was a black hair sticking out. Called the place and told them there is a hair sticking out of the burger noodles, owner dint bother to apologize and then says his cook does not have any hair and that he doesn't want to argue but he can give us a free burger next time. The issue is he never acknowledged that what happened was wrong instead telling us there is no possibility of this happening so basically we lied. Dear owner, keep your free burger as you have lost a customer.

Simply delicious! All 3 dishes I tried were nicely spicey and had that authentic taste. Service was good, nothing superfluous, but pleasant and helpful.

I tried their half order for paneer pakora before ordering paneer pakora for 25-30 people as they mention catering services on their website. I only got 3 small size pakora in half order ( size shown in the pic) for which I paid 6 dollars and some cents. It’s good that I have tried this before making a big order because I was told that 7-8 full order is enough for 25-30 people which was a wrong advice. They should know what’s happening in the competition. Their full order quantity is lesser than the half order quantity of the competitors. Please charge customers fairly when your business is advertising catering services online. Customers can bring more customers if the first time food experience is good. I don’t want to give you one star because of the quantity and I don’t want to give your business 5 stars because as a customer lot more I could get from the competitive market in less price and as a business you should charge your customers fairly.

After eating here my boyfriend ended up spending the whole night on the toilet… We’re not coming here again. He never got any sleep. He ended up throwing up until 4 in the morning, and had to call in sick for work.

We have been to at least 10 different Indian/Punjabi food restaurants in Regina,SK. Spices of Punjab stands out. Food is excellent, food quantity is so fulfilling, the menu has variety- and they can make them all, not just there for menu card. Anyone looking for Punjab-like food in Regina, Spices of Punjab is the place. I would reserve my comments for ambience.

I am writing this review while sitting in restaurant. The restaurant seems to have lost their tpuch with food. Usually we spend an average of 45$ in this place. But no more. We asked the not so polite server whose service is faster than a snail if management has changed. Reply was the manager is cooking food. Which restaurant does that. Now let's talk about the food. Masala pappad. Masala was sparse looked like they ran out of masala or probably they thought it was chakna. Paneer tikka masala no gravy, uncooked vegetables. Rotis were a bit undercooked and the most shocker was we heard the waitress shouting to give parathas because customer is shouting. I would not prefer my business at this establishment any more.

It was only our second time there, but we've eaten their food multiple times (at mosaic!). It has quickly become our 8 year old daughter's favorite restaurant, and we're fine with that! She wanted to bring her best friend yesterday (who is a very picky eater!). She loves it too! Great flavor, and great service. The staff are always so welcoming and friendly. It'll become a regular place for us to go to!

well lunch today was the first time i had ever gone to this restaurant and i was blown away!!! the food was delicious, the music was great and the service was above and beyond, it is definitely one of my favorite places now, you have definitely won over a brand new regular!!! :D

Spices of Punjab is hands down the best Indian restaurant in Regina. The food is spiced well, and unlike some other places, they aren't afraid to put actual flavour, instead of just cream and cilantro, in their food. The tandoori chicken is hands down the best you can find, with a nice amount of heat to it and perfectly juicy. The staff is incredibly friendly and the experience has always been good. I don't think I've ever gone and felt let down.

Had the buffet lunch again and it was incredible. The naan is worth it alone. Butter chicken is incredible also. Staff were very friendly and service was great.

We went to Spices tonight as usual for my birthday supper. We ordered from the menu. The food was fantastic and the service incredible. Thank you for another great birthday meal.

Missed seeing them at Regina Folk Festival this past year. We had never been to check out the restaurant. Such a shame because we were missing out. Wonderful environment, well kept, the friendliest staff, clean and the food was delicious. I am not much for a buffet but this was amazing.
Nadine Smigiel
Every time I have the buffet it has been very good wonderful selection to choose from. Love the tandoori chicken and Nanaan bread. The staff and service is also wonderful.
Mandip Dhesi

Hubby took me to this great place for my birthday today. We loved the spicy food, with just the right amount of "kick". The staff were so obliging. We will be back.

My girlfriend and I went there for supper today. She's had food from there before, said it was good. I have to agree!!! The staff was very courteous, the food was excellent, especially the butter chicken. I will be returning again!!!!

fantastic food and staff great as always the buffet was great

My boyfriend and I came here recently for their lunch buffet. $15.99 seems about average for a Regina lunch buffet. I loved the naan, samosas and gulab jamun. I thought that the butter chicken and veggie dishes could have had a little more spice to them, however they were still delicious. We will come here again and try their other dishes.

I've always had good experiences with this restaurant and it keeps me coming back. They keep things simple and consistent in regards to food and service. I love that they keep expanding and have updated their online options and I feel like they really put an effort into maintaining their restaurant and their business. I'm sure they're not perfect 100% of the time, but compared to a lot of the other places I regularly eat, they are the most consistent.

Very good Indian food for a cheap price. A good selection but doesn't overwhelm you. Servers were very nice and efficient. For the price of the buffet, and he fact you get good quality chicken along with everything else, you are getting a steal of a deal! Will definitely be back. Not recommended for kids (just messy).
Robyn
Extremely disappointed! The food on the buffet did not taste authentic, the flavours were off and everything tasted old and stale, even the rice! The only edible food was the naan and the lettuce with ranch dressing. Would definitely not recommend and will never go back! Waste of money, left hungry.

I got a terrible service tonight. The manager threatened to settle the bill outside when I told him that he was charging me the wrong amount. He said he can charge me whatever because the prices are subject to change. The other staff members were not foul mouthing. Also the only two customers at busy hour were calm. I did not get my pickup order after 20 minutes of wait because the so called manager said that he can refuse the food to anybody.
FoodIsLife
Great selection of Indian food whether you're looking for really spicy or mild. The staff is friendly as well which makes dining there a pleasure.
David
It was okay. Went here with a groupon. Wasn't the best Indian food I've ever had, but it wasn't bad. Average. Host and staff were great.
Navneet Dhillon
Awesome food and awesome service. Best and fresh indian food in City. The buffet is always tasty and fresh. You get good value of your money. Very nice environment. Very friendly staff and awesome service. The most amazing thing, they serve you tandoori chicken and naan on table when you eat buffet. Try the chefs special and you will love it.
We will definitely go back and recommend to others.

Amazing and Delicious Experience!!. I went to Spices of Punjab tonight with a few friends and we had such a good experience! Some got the buffet and I ordered the butter chicken....extra spicy. The food was amazing!! The staff were also awesome and super friendly! I will be back soon! Mmmmmm

Delicious! I just had food delivered for the first time and all of the rave reviews from friends were right. Everything we tried was delicious. I will definitely be ordering again.

Folk Fest Fail. I ordered the meat dish from the tent set up at the Regina Folk Fest last night. I went to bite in to my butter chicken and it tasted awful. After examining it, it looked really pink. I asked another food vendor their opinion, and they agreed that the chicken was undercooked. I took it back to the Spices of Punjab tent and the lady argued with me over the quality of the meat. She tried to tell me "it was the sauce". Listen, I work in a restaurant, and I know when chicken is not cooked, and I got an opinion from another vendor. This was for sure not the sauce. After telling her I refused to eat it and wanted my money back, she offered me 6 dollars when I had given 12 for the platter. She told me the "rest of the stuff was fine". Are you kidding me?! If the chicken was undercooked, who knows what else would be wrong with the rest of the food. She dealt with the situation very poorly and was quite rude to me. I understand that sometimes mistakes happen in the food industry, but the way you treat your customers means EVERYTHING. Definitely will not be returning to Spices of Punjab.
Vinny
Yummy. Coming from Toronto, I decided to try the lunch buffet. Food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. I recommend the butter chicken! You won't be disappointed with the selection as well!

DO NOT ORDER DELIVERY!. A few friends and I ordered from Spices of Punjab and was given a total over the phone. They asked us if we were going to pay cash or debit. We decided with debit - we ordered our food at 7:42pm and was told it would be 45 minutes. We waited for nearly an hour and a half to get our food, once the delivery driver arrived to the house, there was a $6 delivery charge WRITTEN IN PEN on the bill. A delivery charge is to be INCLUDED in the receipt and not written in pen. I have worked in the food industry for a very long time and never encountered this. The delivery driver then called his business and started to talk to the lady who took our order. He passed me the phone and I then had an argument with the lady on the phone. She told me that I had to pay it and I refused because it was written in pen! She then wanted the money OR take the food. I was then told that she was going to get the Chef to talk to me. The Chef then said that it was okay and that "the next time, I need to be aware of the charge". I would pay the Delivery charge if it wasn't written in pen at the bottom on the bill.

Meh. They have the same food EVERYDAY. You go there 2 months from now, the same food is in the buffet. You go there 1 yr from now - the same freaking food. I know for a fact that there's soooooo much variety in Indian food (I'm East Indian) they could do a lot more with the menu.

Had the buffet tonight, what a pleasure! A table full of food, ripe for the picking! Hot! My friend redcat enjoyed the butter chicken immensely! The spinach was also on the top of her spinach list! Yum! I preferred the beef myself as well as the balls of onions! Top it off with some hot dessert balls and you have yourself a meal! Mama Mia!

Great taste but is it fresh?. I have always preferred going to Spices of Punjab as my first preference of having an Indian buffet in town out of all the Indian buffet restaurants. I have always liked this place until my findings recently. I happened to be here with co-workers for a lunch buffet on Wednesday. The food was as usual very good and filled me up. However, it was by chance that I also visited this restaurant again the same week for lunch buffet on a Saturday. I was shocked to see that they were serving the same (3+ days old) food/dishes in their buffet. Not even a single menu item was different. It made me to think if they really cooked anything fresh that week? I also happened to notice that the rice was starting to dry up and the vegetables in the dishes tasted over cooked. Please at least do not serve old food....its a matter of reputation and stale taste.

Works for me. I like all types of food... i have been here a dozen times or so since they opened on Vic East.... food at the buffet has always been good.... they recently expanded the buffet to provide a better selection of meat dishes and a few more desert items.... i would recommend anyone try it... even my wife and daughter who don't like "spicy food" have been and enjoyed it.....

Not so good. Some of the food tasted reheated and not fresh. I would not go back because Da India Curry House and Tandoori Kebab are both way better.
Jay
Owner is always friendly and the food is always fantastic. Recommend this place to all my friends.

Good, not Great. We stopped into Spices of Punjab for the evening buffet. Nothing remarkable about this restaurant, but everything I tried was pretty good. I think the items in the buffet could have been kept a little warmer, and one more meat dish would have been nice (the only meat dish was butter chicken). I liked that they brought fresh naan and tandoori chicken around to the tables. The naan was delicious, but I have had better tandoori chicken. The service was attentive, which seems to be rare in Regina, so I was quite pleased. Overall I liked this restaurant and will probably be back, though it doesn't rank as one of my favorites.

Now open 7 days/wk plus dinner buffet

Spices started opening 7 days a week on July 22. At the same time, they started offering a daily dinner buffet. I like introducing people to Indian cuisine with a buffet so they can try more dishes than if you just order off a menu. I've been to the Sunday dinner buffet for the last two weeks and it has been enjoyed by everyone, even the vegetarian and one person who was so afraid it would be "too hot". The meat dishes were all chicken so it would have been nice if there was another meat dish like beef Vindaloo.

If you like Indian food you should go -- a daily indian dinner buffet is a rarity in this town. And you should definitely go if you haven't had Indian food before.
Mike
Great Indian Food. Enjoyed the tikka, vindaloo, and vegetable dish. Very flavorful! Medium plus two for heat was just right!
Get the homemade naan!
Will revisit. It's about time Regina has an authentic Indian restaraunt.

mike h

Decent Lunch Buffet. Ask for Naan and Tandoori Chicken!. A colleague and I hankering for Indian tried Spices of Punjab for lunch when we found out that Flavours of India was closed for lunch. At $12.95 the buffet is OK, definitely not the best I've had with all of the flavours dulled down for the Prairie palate. The pakora was decent and the butter chicken was also pretty good, but having saffron rice instead of plain white would have been nice. I also didn't see naan or tandoori chicken at the steam table and was confused because I saw others eating it. Only mid-way through the meal was I told that I had to ask for it and that they would then deliver it to my table. A little disappointed that they didn't make that clear to me when I walked in the door. The Tandoori Chicken was better-than-average - I would have asked for more had I known about it at the beginning of the meal. The naan was a little stale and didn't stand out. The service was passable and friendly for a buffet service. I would probably be willing to try again if the other Indian spots in town don't stand out for lunch.

The benchmark. This is the Indian food by which all other Indian food is jugded in Regina. As the previous owners of India House they are responsible for setting the bar. Seeing as that is where I cut my teeth eating Indian food I can say nothing bad. I love it.
The tandoori chicken is unique to their familys region so it is the dry version roasted in the clay tandoori oven and is where the special smokey char flavor comes from. I don't even try to compare this version of tandoori to the other moist version found at other Indian restaurants, which by the way, I also love. So I don't even go there.
The buffet features all the classics, some of the best pakora in the city and amazing naan served fresh to your table. The naan here is so good because of the real tandoori ovens. There really is no comparing clay baked tandoor naan to holding it over a gas flame.
Judging by the lunch hour crowds they have re-established themselves as a main contender in the ever growing, and very welcome, selection of Indian food in Regina.
LoveFood
Grade of B for a lunch buffet. I give it a 7.5/10. The pakora and naan was excellent. The food tasted very good overall, but I prefer my curries a little thicker. Worth checking out. Kind of wish there was samosa on the lunch buffet. The place was packed, so lots of others must like the place too.
Tumbleweed
Excellent Indian food in Regina. I waited a while to try Spices of Punjab, and I was not disappointed. The menu selection was impressive, plenty of vegetarian and non-veg options. The waiter suggested the dinner for two, which was a feast at a good price. The samosas were amazing, definitely made from scratch. The curries and tandoori were delicious, as was the fresh naan. Mango ice cream was a great addition. The service was friendly, the atmosphere pleasant and relaxing. We will definitely be going here again soon. In my opinion it's the best option for Indian food in Regina.
Notorious O.O.G.S.
I agree this place has really went downhill since they moved to Vic. They used to have samosas included with the buffet but don't anymore. And the service is nothing like it used to be at that old hole in the wall on north Albert. Flavors of India doesn't have a lunch buffet but is so much better.
C
Not again.. Since they have moved, the food and service have both taken a horrible decline. We use to visit this place quite frequently, but since the last time we won't be back. You would think being the only customers in the resturant, we'd have received excellent service. The assumption was proven incorrect. Terrible service!! Food, subpar. As I've said before, we won't be back. Too bad, they use to be amazing.
Looker
Athentic (at least I think it is?). This food is great, if you like spicy food, which I do, you should go to this restaurant. No you can't choose how spicy it is like those other Indian restaurants but that is why I like it. The food is well priced and you get a good quantity, i just wish that rice was included in you meal and a person didn't have to order that as an extra. Everyone needs to try there Naan bread, it is some of the best in the city. My favourite is was the garlic Naan bread. In conclusion, don't mind spicy food then go to this restaurant and be open to try something new, if you don't know what to get ask, I'm sure they staff can help. However, the atmosphere of the restaurant could use some work and the menus say the wrong address and are falling apart. Maybe time to update?

VERY VERY GOOD FOOD. We try to go to this restaruant every Saturday for the lunch buffet. Million times better then Da India Curry House. Awesome food and friendly staff. Keep up the good work. Great Reviews.

I don't get it??!!. I walked in looked at the price looked at the buffet food of orange meat and yogurt and rice and couldn't fathom the idea of paying that price for that crap...?!! Walked out without ordering....I just don't get it?!!

Very tasty Indian Cuisine! Recommend.

Oh the delicious Spices. Once, the original owners of India House - these owners have returned to Regina after their original restaurant fell from grace as the top Indian restaurants.

Spices of Punjab in their new location on Victoria Avenue is fantastic! Offering a great lunch time buffet which alternates various dishes depending on the day, culminating with an even larger selection on Fridays. Their evening/supper menu may not be the largest or unique, but the quality is top notch compared to other Indian food in Regina.

My only wishes would be to include Galub Jamun on the buffet, and increase the amount given for take out orders. Otherwise the best choice in Regina for Indian!
Liz
Excellent. We used to go to this restaurant when it was at 4th and Albert and we liked it. Now its moved to Vic East its not so convenient for us, but the food is still good.

I really like the chick pea curry. I am not a meat eater but my granddaughter likes the Butter Chicken. Naan bread is good too.

We have also had take out. Both eat in and take out and well worth it.
JLS
Always Good. I've eaten here quite a few times since moving to Regina and everything has always been perfect. This is my "go to place".
Sherri
Great lunch buffet. Tried there lunch buffet and was not overly impressed until they brought out the tandoori chicken and naan. The chicken was amazing. I will definitely go back just for the chicken and to try the buffet once again just in case I went on a bad day. The day I went they had butter chicken which is my favorite but never really cared for theirs much, but will try it again before I say I do not like it much

A nice meal.. We went on a Saturday, around 6:00 p.m., and there were plenty of seats open. Service was prompt and friendly. The PAKORA were nice and the MALIA KOFTA (paneer) was good too. The plain NAAN was very nice. We also ordered the LAMB KEEMA PEACE CURRY (medium hot), which was okay but maybe a bit salty. The VEGETABLE BIRYANI was okay but I wouldn't order it again. I would have liked a larger proportion of vegetables in it, compared to the amount of rice. In general, I enjoyed my meal but I've never been highly impressed with the overall level of tastiness of Indian food in Regina.

To die for!. I've probably eaten here 5 times in the past couple months and have yet to find something I didn't love. Since "everything is awesome!" isn't terribly helpful, I'd most highly recommend the Chicken Tikka (melt-in-your-mouth tender chicken served on a sizzling platter), Lamb Saag, Malai Kofta, Garlic Naan (which is bottomless, BTW), and Saffron Rice (mainly as a vehicle for all the delicious sauces!). Also, give the mango lassi a try - tastes great and a sip is perfect relief for your tongue in case things get a little too spicy. Service has been good in my experience - not too doting as to be annoying, but my water glass is always full and the food arrives quickly. Folks, if you haven't tried this place, you are missing out. Grab a few friends so you can try a bit of everything without exploding, and go now!
IChang
Wish I could try everything.... ...but my stomach/wallet can only take so much beating. The dinner here is very good. Both the taste, sight, and smell were enough to take me into some sort of eating trance that wasn't broken until I hit the bottom of an empty plate.

Beginning my favourites are the tandoori chicken, which is evidently something that most people here agree is done well. Combined with naan or saffron rice, the house vegetables and lamb saag worked in perfect harmony. The lamb is indeed cut into large cubes that lend substance and texture, indicating that the fare was of high quality. The rice pudding dessert was a nice way to cleanse the palate and end a wonderful meal.

Some of the dishes that were good, but not great, include the pakoras, mixed grill, and house naan. Some of the pakoras were a tad too hard/dry for my liking, while a few pieces of the mixed grill were heavily coated in salt. And although the house naan tasted good, the filling hardly justified its price.

Personally, I found that service depended on who was waiting on your table. Sometimes it was superb, while other times the waits were so long that I wanted to bash my skull with my empty water glass.

I recommend Spices of Punjab and would gladly return in the future.
Chaiman
Great lunch buffet at their new location on victoria ave. The tandoori chicken is amazing.
Russ
I love love this place! A bit expensive in the evening but their lunch buffet is cheap and delicious. Also the owner is a really good guy and if your not satisfied tell him, he'll make it right.

Just love this restaurant!. This restaurant is a diamond in the rough. It shares a building with a not-so-fancy motel, but don't let that discourage you from trying its excellent food! I have found Spices of Punjab to be clean, friendly and absolutely delicious.
I would (and do!) recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious and authentic Indian cuisine.

Decent Indian Food. If you want to try their lunch buffet, get there early... if you arrive around noon, you probably won't get a seat.

Pretty standard Indian fare... butter chicken is food, pakoras are good and unlimited naan and tandoori chicken brought to your table.

$10 lunch buffet, can't go wrong. It's good eats
