Review Golf's Steak House - Regina

Dejan Ratkov
Golf Steak House is a very elegant and high end restaurant and I recommend it for any important occasion, personal or business dinner, you won’t be disappointed! I did choose steak for this visit, and it was perfect for what I expected, however I heard from other guests in our group that their non-steak choices are also phenomenal! The steak order comes with soup and preferred side, so there is no surprises here. Very nice place and highly recommend!

My partner and I are in Regina because he is teaching this weekend and one of our friends suggested Golf's for supper. I am so glad that the friend made the recommendation. We called ahead to make sure that there were tables available and were assured there were, so we made reservations. From walking into the restaurant to getting seated I was truly impressed by this place. There aren't a lot of restaurants that actually do things the way Golf's does. The table settings were phenomenal. We were celebrating my partners birthday which I told our server. I ordered the seafood linguine and my partner ordered the peppercorn steak. Both entres came with soup, salad and garlic toast. Everything was absolutely delicious. The server was stellar with how much attention he gave us. (Not so much as to be intrusive at all) They even did a small dessert for my partner after it all. 10 out of 10, will definitely be going here again.

To give some context to this review, the restaurant did seem extremely busy. I ordered prime rib, asked if I could have several thin slices instead of a slab (English style). When we ordered the wine, the bottle took about 20 minutes to come. Our waitress told us it was her first wine service and to please bear with her. She had never used a corkscrew before and had to be instructed by guests at the table. (Completely the fault of the waiter that was training her. When the prime rib came, it was in one piece. I mentioned to the waitress that I had asked for several thin slices, but I was happy to eat it this way instead. She said the kitchen would gladly fix it and it would just take a minute. When it came back. It was cut up into 20 pieces, vertically. Something I obviously could have done myself. When I told the waiter that wasn't what I had meant, he responded "Well that's what the kitchen could provide for you tonight and instantly disappeared." That response from the waiter is the only reason I felt I needed to write this review. When I asked the waitress when we got the bill, why her trainer had let her serve a bottle of wine without showing her how to use a corkscrew, or being at the table, she responded he was supposed to but was really busy. Pretty surprising, given I've heard good things about this restaurant.

Took my brother out for a birthday supper tonight. Everything was amazing from soup to dessert. Steaks and prime rib were the choice, and a baked Alaska to finish the evening. Pace was perfect nothing rushed each course tasty with great presentation. Staff was very friendly and gave our table great attention. Before we knew it, almost three hours had passed... such a great way to relax and be sociable.

Golf's is absolutely incredible!!! If you are visiting the city, you need to go here!! The staff is absolutely unbelievably amazing and I am honestly underselling it! Every single person goes out of their way to make sure everything is perfect...They have the best chefs! All of the meals come with soup and salad which is amazing... My personal favorite soup is the carrot soup, (their clam chowder is incredible too!).. I called to ask for the carrot soup...they didn't have it that day, so they took my number down and they called me a few days later.. The chef went out of his way to make the carrot soup just for me!! ❤❤ which is is unheard of nowadays. This place cares about each and every person that walks through that door and the chefs are amazing!! They have the best culinary skills ever! their food is always perfect you need to go there!! Trust me!

My first time at Golf’s yesterday and very impressed and honestly surprised. I always thought Golf’s was out of my league and would be over priced. I could not have been more wrong. When you consider that the price on the menu is for a full 3 course meal that includes soup, huge homemade garlic toast, choice of caesar or tossed salad and then the main course which includes your choice of potatoes or rice and a very generous helping of vegetables. The cocktails and wine were fairly priced as well. My wife was full before the main course even arrived 😄 I had the 12oz prime rib which was done just as I asked and I could barely finish it all. The waiter was very professional and knowledgeable, really made us comfortable. We had brought a cake as it was my wife’s birthday and he brought it out with the candles lit and all, really a nice touch. The decor is very nice as was the table setting. You can be sure we will be back and I highly recommend it 👍

Myself and my worker colleague just had a meal at Golf's, both from out of town. We both ordered the prime rib. Before I ordered I asked the waiter I was deliberating between a seafood dish and prime rib. The waiter explained they have a special oven for prime rib and has the most amazing flavor, so I went for the prime rib. When the prime rib arrived the waiter came and asked if we needed anything else. We then cut into our prime ribs. Within a few cuts we looked at each other with the same look that these cuts were not what was expected. The amount of sinew I left on my plate was about 1/3 of the steak, my colleague did not finish half. Unfortunately the waiter did not come and ask us about our meal just after we started, I was planning to send it back. With no interactions with anyone we finished the meal as best as we could. When the waiter arrived after our meal, I indicated, without looking for a price cut because we chose to eat what we could, this was the worst prime rib I have ever had at a fine steak house. We are almost certain the waiter did not pass this information on, when he returned with the bills, he said this was the most eloquently way he has been told the meal was very bad. My colleague reminded him he should pass this information on. He then explained it might have been the cut, perhaps at the slaughterhouse. Just a review to relay our experience as factually as possible.

Great food, excellent staff, we had one minor glitch which was dealt with quickly and fully resolved. Thank you for an enjoyable evening.

Came in tonight for my birthday, the team was super understanding and attentive! Meals were prepared perfectly, hot and delicious. We will definitely return especially for the two wait staff that we had who made it extra enjoyable! Thank You.

Just have to say the Staff Christmas party was a success. Golf's Steakhouse was amazing. Thank you Maria for your organizing and getting us in the private room. Thank you Jackie, Chelsey, the three busers, hostess and kitchen staff. 44 meals out seamlessly and drinks. Amazing job !! Everyone would go again. Thank you.

We enjoyed supper at Golfs this past Friday night to celebrate our 3rd wedding Anniversary! It was amazing as always..both food and service. We had our wedding supper there 3 years ago.

I thought the service was great and the food was poor and over priced. I had the escargot and they were rubbery and salted beyond imagination. The peppercorn sauce clear came from a package or cardboard box. I wouldn't suggest eating here if you enjoy a specific quality of food. I feel bad for the staff.
Hina Patris
Loved the food for I think it's not a kids place I will never take my kids there plus the place was a bit dark but the food I have no words so good.....

I love eating at Golf's! Prime Rib is amazing and the Chef there will custom cut any size you ask for. Staff and management are amazing and purely customer oriented. Bar has great wine selection and also carries selection of ports including a 20 year tawny. Daily reasonable lunch specials make this place one of my repetitive destinations.

I couldn't wait to write this review for Golfs, I have never ate here and lived in Regina for 40 years !
I was sure hoping for a great experience, here is goes, you tell me what you think:

We walked in the huge restaurant on a Saturday evening and there was just a small section blocked off for seating. I first said to myself, this is weird, I thought Golfs was suppose to be such a great restaurant and would be full of cheerful people.

So my friend order a new york steak medium and I ordered seafood fettuccine
We got bread and soup then wait twiddled our thumbs for about 40 minutes until I had to ask if the food was on its way, since there was only about 15 people in the restaurant it took a long time. My friend was complaining, so wasnt enjoyable. Finally our meals come. He cut into his steak and saw a lot of red, this was not medium it was borderline rare. But he kept eating anyhow was hungry, ate the french fries that come with it. He said it was also bland, no spices. I looked at it and did not look like a great steak.

So I started eating my fettuccine, the sauce was very thick and shrimps small, a couple scallops. Again they were not spiced or fried/seared properly, looks like a few mins in the fry pan, must have got the ingredients from Safeway. I gave it a 6 out of 10

There you go, GOLFS a horrible experience. The food was very similar when I ate at Diplomat .. was horrible for the price as well.

Oh !! one more thing. The waitress came by and left the bill. I had some cash in my pocket so paid with it, as I got up she ran over to the table quick to see if I paid the bill ??? I thought that was very rude, did she think I was going to dine and dash or something ?? I guess was only interested in the money, could give 2 hoots about us or the meal. Last time Im going here

I was honestly expecting more from this restaurant. The souvlaki and greek salad I had were delicious but the waitress we had acted as if serving us was too much work. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant and we weren't even checked on or offered more to drink.. I will give this place another try sometime and hope for a different waitress!

Worth the price for this fine dining steak house. Perfectly prepared and melt in your mouth fare with steak that will have you moaning like a camel with an ulcer. Would visit again
Carterh
Bottom line- save your money and go to Moxies or the Keg... neither are fine dining, but they do a better job than Golfs and have more quality appropriate pricing.

Stopped in for our anniversary, service was warm and friendly, my wife ordered steak,I ordered salmon, both dishes were amazing, we also had the soups, again amazing, all in all a great experience but it was pricy, with 1/2 liter of win the bill was just over $100.00 but we defiantly got what we paid for in both quality and experience.

AWESOME!. Best steak and Caesar salad in Regina by far!!

Perfect Valentine's Day Supper. Thank you Golf's for such a great outing. Despite the giant lineup at the door, the crowd moved rapidly in. Jackie was our server. She was kind, polite, prompt and knowledgeable. Zero complaints as the food and atmosphere were romantic and everything we could expect and more. Always have loved Golf's and they blew our New Years experience at the Diplomat well out of the water.

Mediocre AT BEST!!! Not worth the price. The highlight of my 4 course meal was the French Onion soup and it was nothing to write home about. Watery, limp salad with so called homemade ranch dressing (who ever heard of ranch dressing being made from mayonnaise? disgusting!!!) My husband's lobster was overcooked and rubbery, his boss' filet mignon first came out well done when he ordered it medium rare, and fridge-cold in the middle the second time it came out. It took them THREE tries to get it right. My halibut was COLD with vegetables that looked like they'd been sitting under a heat lamp for 2 to 3 hours. My baked potato was cold and instead of leaving the fixings for the potato with me, the waitress insisted on dressing it herself and taking the fixings with her. I could go on, but I'll stop there. Entrée prices ranged from $35 to $66, not worth it for what was received. Tables too close together. We were a large group seated directly next to another large group on a Monday evening when the rest of the dining room was almost empty. We won't be back and neither will my husband's employer.

Absolutely THE BEST. I have to say out of every restaurant experience I have ever had this is BY FAR the best service and the food was more perfect than I have ever had. No word of a lie from the ceasar salad and garlic bread to steak and potatoes done to perfection. The hostess was very friendly and the waitress was very attentive. Nothing but compliments to the chef. Simply perfect in every way!!!

Best Steak in Town. I've heard negative things about the owner of this place, but I've never met him/her so can't really judge on that.
As far as the food. It's always tasty. I don't mind paying top dollar for a meal out if I feel the value is there. You can't beat those charcoal steaks. Just delicious. We will always return to Golf's. Yum.
Paulus1333
Disappointing. Overpriced. Tough steak.. Went for a late lunch with two friends.

The chicken breast Caesar was apparently very good, the fried shrimp so- so and my sirloin steak was tough as hell.

Service was kind of 'we're busy with other things, don't bother us' indifference.

Overpriced food, indifferent service, not sure I'll go back, what with the Hotel Sask a few steps away. At least their servers are first class.

-----03 Oct, 2014-----

Good quality, but getting pricey.. Been here many times with friends, usually for supper. The food has been consistently, good, although I wouldn't rate it as excellent. I have no complaints with the physical surroundings or the food quality but it would be nice to see the wait staff in CLEAN pressed attire. Noting more distasteful than a waitress wearing a uniform with a weeks worth of stains.
Welltravelled
Food and service above avg. seems to be a few haters on the reviews but considering the location, curb appeal and quality of food it's certainly worth the value.

Disappointing, not worth the fortune you pay there.... I was extremely disappointed with my experience in Golfs. I took my girlfriend there for a "fancy" dinner and felt like we were in a dark cave the whole time, very dark and gloomy interior. Being fair, I wasn't willing to "shell out" $70 for a couple of king crab legs so I went for the safer option of roast chicken.

We were served by no less than 3 different waiters, all were very rushed and didn't really make an effort to make us feel comfortable there. One of them, the older guy did seem like a great guy but didn't really engage us, hid in the shadows most of the time.

French onion soup was meh, over seasoned although the broth was nice and sweet. Main course chicken seemed it was un-frozen "no name" brand cheap chicken meat, seemed like they were cutting costs on the quality of meat and over-seasoning to compensate...saw right through that. My plate was chipped which was another disappointment; real fancy restaurants would never let something like that happen.

The only good thing about this place is the attractive entrance staff....everything else was mediocre. I'm never going back and won't recommend it either. The flame outside is ridiculous...I think the high prices are to pay their big gas bill!

Disappointing. I have so much great steaks here through the past, especially the ramb ribs. but not anymore.
last winter, my sister got marries and I wanted to serve nice lunch for her and my new family member in golfs.

but the server never showed up, when we try to call her, she walked away really fast. We had to call other server for water.
the food was served late, we gave up and about to leave and they served the soup. even the table came after us got their food earlier than us.
and they tasted horrible except for the steak. steak was actually nice. we all ordered rice for sides and it was aweful. worst rice I ever had. and the soup... blah.
When the server was taking our dishes, I asked her about the dessert, and I picked about 3 things but all she said was they did not have any of those. I felt like she did not want to serve anything so we would leave sooner. we were very pissed offed, and always talk about how horrible place this is. never coming back.
Nicole
Consistently great food. We always order the filet mignon and have never been disappointed. Prices are reasonable considering all entrees include soup, salad and garlic toast. Great atmosphere for date night or large groups. IMO Golf's is in the top 3 best restaurants in town.

Manager is a jerk. Not at all helpful. Lousy service. Food meh.

Love it. Hot flavourful and great service.worth every penny. I go on a regular basis. I love steak dian med. rare consistent every time. Get spoiled here!
Myr
Really enjoyed our meals, service was great, pricey but you get your money's worth.. I would go back to this restaurant.

Disappointed overall. Took my parents here for supper last night. Zucchini sticks were cold, service was slow, chicken neptune was dry and horrible. The steak and prime rib were average. I won't be going back.

In Town on Business. When I walked in, it was a warm reception, Seated at a decent table even though I was dining alone. Very decent waiter. No issues with the service. Started with the Clam Chowder. Very average for a Maritimer, bland. Ceasar salad was small but very good. Main course; I had the Rib steak. Cooked as I asked. Baked potato tasted fresh baked. Veggies were good as well. The meal was a bit pricey, but the best steak i've had in town over the last 2 weeks. This place is a bit pricey, but the value for price paid i would say was decent. I will revisit when back in town...

Terrible. First off. Don't have 2 waiters for a section. It confuses the heck out of people. I don't know where they got their steak from but time to go to butcher school and learn where the good meat is. My girl friend had to ask for a sharper knife due to toughness of the steak. She is a tough girl but probably will develop arthritis due to the manipulation during the cutting of the steak.

I honestly will never go there again and will never recommend this place to any out of town friends!

Go to the keg!
Foodie
Bad. I have not been here in over a decade, but the menu seems like it hasn't changed in 20 years. The food ranges from mediocre to gross. Honestly maybe they cook a good steak, I wouldn't know. The clam chowder was possibly the blandest I've ever had...the ceasar salad tasted like it was slapped on the plate with some mayonnaise. We had a shrimp dish that seemed to be bathed in the same consistency of sauce as the soup broth...basically unidentifiable...and all I can say is it was inedible. I have no idea who would want to pay such ridiculously high prices for such poor food.
The server was ok, but in general the (possibly manager?) other ladies waiting on us were not that interested in respecting the customers. Just do not bother wasting your money!
Fine Food
Thumbs up. Beautuful place, and great steake. Loved everything there!
Micheal
Bad Experiece. Wait Staff is not Good. No Respect for Customers. We went there in opening hours around 11 am , not a Rush hour. Will never go again and wont Recommend. Mc Donald is better than this.
Racist Behavior Noticed as Well.

Poor Meal and Service. Golf's is usually a restaurant of choice for a business group when we gather in Regina. On this occasion I ordered the swordfish. When it arrived it was a dark colour and tasted "off." When the waitress came by she asked how my meal was. I said the fish was inedible. She said "Oh," and walked away. No apology, no offer to replace the meal or bring something else. I must comment that this is the first time I have had a bad meal at Golf's. The wait staff are usually much more interested in how their patrons are enjoying their meals. A disappointing experience.
Darren
Anniversary Supper. Everything was great as usual, this place is consistantly good. Price is fair for the higher end eating establishments. Service is always good.
Joanne
Excellent!. This is our favourite restaurant. The service is excellent. The wait staff is cheerful and friendly. The owner, Maria is always smilling and friendly. I always have the lobster and it is always fabulous. My husband always has the prime rib & it is the best in town! My grandson has steak or prime rib and he loves it. Always good food, nice quiet atmosphere. Can't wait to go again!

YUMMIE. Great food, great prime rib...all good!!!

Best Steak in a long time. I ate here last week and was not disappointed. The service was a bit slow, but the NY steak I had was awesome. It was cooked perfectly and was very flavourful and tender. Overall the meal was quite good; with soup and salad included with the main course, all for about $36. Golfs was a nice treat for a special evening.
Jeanette
Ate here recently and was advised by the waiter that a Gluten Free sauce was just not possible. I have eaten at restaurants lately that have a basic Gluten Free sauce they can substitute for the sauces that otherwise accompany a dish. I find this to be an excellent idea. I urge Golf's to adopt the same practice together with indicating GF items on the menu. This is becoming more and more common. I was a bit surprised a restaurant that touts itself as upscale was not competitive in this area.

Golfs Steakhouse 1st Wedding Anniversary Dinner June 12, 2011. I want to start off by saying that my husband went to the trouble of making a reservation weeks in advance ,and we still got stuck in the lounge beside a long table of people who were there for a birthday party. Infact the one manager was there for the birthday party who after their meal proceeded to tell the one waitress that she is not to charge her for her family's meal, they almost had an argument about this and the whole party during the whole meal was very loud and TRASHY!!! The drunk guy at the booth behind us kept trying to buy the manager and her husband shooters and would yell accross the lounge, he also kept trying to buy our waiter shooters I cannot count on one hand the amount of times he had to say no. Regardless we were expecting something more quiet and intimate for our 1st wedding anniversary dinner. The prices are WAY too high for the quality of food I was very diappointed in the whole experience and would NEVER go back. We spent well over $200 that night and it was a waste of time and money. I would rather go to the KEG or the Diplomat we have had WAY better meals for a lot less. Also as a side note with the outrageous prices they charge you would think they could do some renovating.
Dave
Golfs Steakhouse. We have driven past the "Flame" for many years and finally decided to give it a try for our 20th Anniversary celebration. What a disappointment. We made reservations well in advance and still ended up sitting in a booth in the lounge which was very noisy and not romantic at all. We were served by no less than three different wait staff (don't know if this is normal) who were okay but nothing special. The food (Filet Neptune) was not cooked to our specification (overcooked) was not particulary seasoned well and the vegetables were cold. My wife's baked potato was black and unappetizing looking at the bottom and tasted moldy. The prices seemed on the high side and in our opinion we have had much better meals for less money at The Cottage and the Diplomat. we will not be going back.

Son, I am dissapoint. I went to this place for lunch yesterday expecting a good steak. It looked very nice inside, and I was expecting a very good meal. What I was presented with on the other hand was very poor. My steak was extremely chewy, as was my father's, and both of ours were bloody, not well done. The rice I had also was very disappointing. Very starchy taste, with really no other flavor. If you want a good steak in Regina, head over to the diplomat.
CrazyCanuk
I love this place.. I've been going to Golf's for years now. The high quality of the food has always been consistent. It's my favorite place in Regina for lunch. They have wonderful lunch specials. For dinner I always have the amazing prime rib. The dinner comes with tossed or caesar salad, and a soup, plus garlic toast. The prime rib comes with a choice of baked, fries, linguine or rice, and sweet baby carrots with broccoli. Delicious!

Traditional steak house fare. This is a very traditional steak house restaurant. No windows, dark interior, ornately carved wood furniture. It's a little like stepping back into the 1970s. However, they play to their strengths... the steaks are done to perfection. I've been here a few times over the years and although not much has changed, it's been consistently good.

Anniversary supper. We were there for our 35th anniversary on Monday, July 26th, 2010. My wife's supper was good, but my rack of lamb, which was ordered medium rare, came out raw. I sent it back, and they threw it on the broiler for a couple of minutes. When it came back, it was a little better, but I took the rest home. They say that you first eat with your eyes, so the raw meat was a turn-off. We were seated close to the kitchen, and it sounded like an amateur night in there with a bunch of hooting and hollering. For a terrific rack of lamb, next time I'll go to the Chimney, or to Skara!

Just not worth it!. Nice building and location, great welcome however.........medium quality food , poorly trained server, absentee management, overpriced, overrated, arrogant, and very disapointing.

Romantic? i think so. I would recommend this place if you are out for a good time on the town. a fancy meal in a relaxed atmosphere to make you enjoy your pleasant experience. everything from the service to the food is premium quality and always done right as you asked!! a little pricey but you definitely get what you pay for and then some!!
a clean romantic place to eat.
i give them a 9.5 out of 10

Well rounded. The meat is very good, with it always cooked the way you ask it to be (which it SHOULD be, but being Regina, you never know). I was surprised to find that the "vegetable platter" tasted excellent as well! Beware. The vegetable platter is indeed huge. Quiet setting with great service. I will be coming back for more.
