Review Phoenix Buffet - Red Deer

Fantastic! We were there for lunch on a sunday. A good selection on the buffet at a very reasonable price. They told me lunch during Monday to Friday was even a lower price. Salads, pizza, fries, onion rings, fried chicken as well as the typical Chinese food. The ginger beef was amazing, just a bit of a "zing". Broccoli was cooked to perfection. Didn't try the dim sum. Hubby said won ton soup was good as well as the pepper beef and beef and broccoli. I enjoyed the salad bar. Coleslaw was yummy. The chicken balls had too much batter and the spring rolls weren't deep fried long enough for my taste. Vermicelli and the thick noodles were good. Amazing choices of desserts, all kept in a cooler. Why don't other places do this?? Ice cream choices were cherry, something with sprinkles, rainbow and several others. I liked it wasn't typical chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. I enjoyed the desserts I tried. The tarts had great insides but too much pastry, Nanaimo bars were typical, the coffee tasting one was real good as was the one with caramel. There's not an over abundance of items, which is good. Too many choices can be a bad thing as they tend to sit too long. Items here were all fresh and replaced often. Didn't get that "sat under the heat lamp forever" taste. There is something for almost everyone here. Decor is pleasant. Establishment and washrooms were clean, staff very friendly and helpful. One of the few restaurants where I witnessed them getting along and working as a team. Nice for a change. Keep that up! I highly recommend this restaurant and will be back!! As a side note they do offer take out for buffet prices.

Very nice place to eat all you can Chinese resto, all food is fresh, hot & delicious, but one thing that need to pay attention - the chairs, need to be change.

Food fresh good and tasty for all you can consume buffet! Service girl awesome but way too many choices to pick from! ie the buffet. Need a prodigious appetite or better yet come back again. Big spacious venue but quiet when we were there. 20.50$ per person more than reasonable. Would go again.

Good Chinese buffet, and we got new dimsum when we arrived. Not a lot of fruit selection, but loved the egg tarts for dessert!

Took 2 hours for food to be delivered, when called to check on ETA was told that it had left 15 minutes and they would phone back, no one called back. Wife called back about 10 minutes later, was told they were busier than expected and food had left maybe 10 minutes ago. We understand that it can get busy but at the hour and a half mark if they're that busy at least call and let customers know you're busier than expected and there will be a delay

One of the best buffet places in Red Deer! We and our friends/family always order Chinese food takeout here as the servings are always huge, the ingredients fresh and the dishes have that distinct Chinese spicy, smoky aroma that we so love!!! Feels like we are in a Hong Kong street lined with Chinese eateries. We love to dine here as well before the covid19 pandemic happened early 2020, now we just regularly order takeout for special occasions. Our regular orders are shrimp, fried calamaris, steamed shrimp dumplings, beef broccoli, fried chicken and fried rice. Try as well their noodles, it's so good!!! We can't wait for the pandemic to end so we can eat here again.

Great selection of food. Trays refilled quickly and very polite efficient staff. Good value. I will certainly return.

Our family loves this place. Cozy atmosphere, delicious food, good service. This is the best buffet in Red Deer, and even better than some in Calgary

Whether we like it or not we all end up at the Phoenix Buffet at some point. Not a big fan but respect the fact they keep their salad bar fun, fresh and fully stocked. I would recommend the eggfooyoung and some of the sushi.

It started out as a good place but now the last few times we've gone it's horrible. The one night we all had chicken balls and they were so hard the knife couldn't even cut, they were like golf balls. Everything else was quite tough and hard to chew...only thing good is dessert. Thought we would try again but once again old and tough and just a big disappointment. Definitely back to Fusion, expensive but fresh and actually only a few dollars more.

The only saving grace is the few specialty items. Otherwise the rest of the buffet is just not good. I don’t know that Red Deer has a good Chinese buffet which is sad but this isn’t one.

This is the best place in Red Deer for fresh Chinese food! The staff are always making sure that the buffet is full and hot, and are always walking around making sure our drinks are full and table is clean. The people running this place definitely know what they're doing! They offer a vast selection of food - including mouth watering dim sum! We always come here for Chinese food. Definitely recommend!

**dim sum was quite good but the rest of the buffet was lacking still a great little mom n pop shop*dim sum wasn't as stellar as other days. Sui mai was too fatty. Ham sui gok had the wrong exterior. ...no ice cream in the buckets... dim sum is still super good. Even their tray buns are made in house... with shiny crisp exteriors.. just like the bakeries...a great value and service was fast and efficient....Now we know why the seniors come here...***always a bonus when you can have dim sum included in a buffet. Surprisingly I'd have say to it was really good. The rest of the buffet was ok... although we did get there at almost the end of lunch. Other plus the bathroom was clean and wasn't like a freezer. It's family friendly. Both bonus points. The price for kids up to 9 isn't an arm and leg. But 10 + are considered same as adult. Probably a sliding scale would work better for kids. It's a buck off for seniors. I'd try it again at the beginning of the lunch buffet

When there for the lunch buffet yesterday. The waitress was amazing, water always full and old plates taken away in record time. A good mix of Chinese and western food. Was surprised they didn't have ginger beef, only gininger pork (first place I have ever seen this), and when I noticed that I looked around, almost everything was made from pork. This kinda threw me off a bit. Food tasted alright still. My girlfriend ate something and got a little sick but I was fine. Not sure if she just has a sensitive stomach. Probably won't go back cause I normally go out with the girlfriend and she already vetoed it cause of her getting sick.

Great food every time. Huge portion sizes. At the end of the day with no meal in sight for my family this where I go or lately they come to us. Happy customer here.

MSG. I'm extreamly sensitive to msg, we went here for a company lunch and I was leary, after eating the food I was pleasantly supprised. No attack. The salad selection is limited but this is the only Chinese food place in 250km that I have eaten where I never had an msg attack after.

Okay but won't go out of my way to eat here again. The buffet is exactly the same as the Dragon City Cafe in the south end of town. dragon City is much better. Go there instead.

Cheap food. That is all there is to it. No beef today. Lots of cheap pork. The chicken was thighs and oily. Lots of carb options in rice and noodles. The dumplings were very doughy. No green salad. And the pizza looked like it came out of a box in the freezer. I cringed at the options and I have no idea why the people I came with wanted to come here. If cost was the issue, then other places have menu service that is much better for less. I hope I don't have to go back.

Good food and fair size selection. Food is good tasting and they offer Dim Sum. Good selection of variety of choices and like all Chinese buffets, the salad selection lacks. Service is good also.

Won't be going here again. The service was awful and the food matched it. Many of the dim sum offerings were overcooked to the point of being rubbery. Yuck

Good For A Buffet. They have a large selection, and refill the food area quite often. This place gets quite busy and there's a good reason for that.

For a buffet, this place is good.

It's a Buffet, what did you expect?. It's as good as a buffet gets. Lots of selections, and some different concepts for a buffet, like the dim sum stations. Perfect fast food, if you're starving and can't wait. There's are some areas that get's messed pretty bad, like the pudding and ice cream station. Also, I'm not to sure about the mayonaise base sauces that sitting by the steamwells. I just dont eat those sauces and enjoy all the other good stuff. PS, don't overstuff yourself!! You won't feel too good afterward lol.

Love the Phoenix. We go to the Phoenix pretty frequently. It gets very busy even during the week. Servers are always friendly but rushed. The food is always hot but sometimes we find they aren't quick to replace items in the buffet that run out. There is a good variety of food, it is not a massive buffet which we appreciate. My partner loves the dim sum.

Darn Good Food. Huge selection and great food. Make sure you read the dim-sum labels first, just in case your tastes are not quite as exotic.

Way better buffet then red deer buffet ( MSG Pallace) and good food

Chicken balls. Great food, the chicken ball are very filling, I found the squid quite tasty as well. Large selection, and the main server/owner has an unbelievable work ethic, very refreshing to see in the service industry. Pop wasn't watered down for once either!

Nice Place, Decent Food. A bright, spacious buffet with good selection, a dim sum bar, and pretty decent food. Definitely worth a try!
