Review Queen's Diner - Red Deer

Jennylaine M
It’s was in March,2022 we got to this diner was excited cause outside was like back to 60-70’s which weren’t born yet I just saw it on movies once you get inside was amazing place to dine the staff ask us if it’s our first time and they give you a welcome jingle so nice, very clean place was well maintained if you think was an old place but you wouldn’t think, the chef lady was very clean and well served food. A very nice place to stop have your gas filled at gasoline alley then drop by to rest and have breakfast or brunch, definitely come back.

I stopped in here for lunch during the week on my travels because of the high ratings. This place is very retro, cosy and colorful. The waitress was very friendly and approachable. I had the loaded burger which isn't listed on the menu but is called The Princess and it was delicious. So was the homemade soup I had on the side. What made my experience was when I went to pay and she gave me a special callout at the till to the whole restaurant! Lol

First time customer, heard rumors of this hidden gem, wasn't disappointed. Will definitely be back with more friends. Great atmosphere, great staff, and quality food at decent prices. Best Pickle spears and dry ribs in town.

Soup?! Yes, soup! That was a suggestion our party didn't regret! Everything was delicious, service was exceptional and we felt like home, even though we come from a different country all together. The place is a gem, unique and very cozy!! No food pictures just coz once we tasted it, we didn't think of anything else.
Melinda Gross
Neat atmosphere, for a small space the layout is very efficient. Staff is great, prompt and quick when busy and friendly with time to visit when it’s not. Reasonably priced food, great portions and great taste. Definitely worth a trip to check it out!
Jackie Cliff
Cool lil place friendly people and great food

GO HERE! best hidden gem in red deer. Fantastic waitress, and amazing food. Very rustic feel to the place and historical items around the area.

Had a day trip to Red Deer for business. Breakfast was a must to survive the day. Found the Queens Diner with search here in Zomato and was sure glad I did!

It was a throwback to long gone days when the food and service was prime. A lesson many of today’s establishments could learn.

We were greeted with a friendly smile the moment we walked inside. We chose to seat in a booth instead of at the counter stools (I’ll be sitting there next time). Our friendly waitress was quickly to our table with much needed cups of coffee. I never saw the bottom of that cup as she continued to refill it with more piping hot java.

Being a bacon & egg breakfast traditionalist, my order was rapidly placed. It wasn’t long before the chef had it prepared in the open kitchen and was delivered to my table. All was prepared to my preference (over-easy, soft eggs, crisp bacon and dry whole wheat toast). Bacon lovers would love this place. This is not a two slice establishment! And the hash browns were real, fresh cut, skin-on red potatoes. Not the quick cook frozen variety that is made god knows wear by some robot.

There was no pressure to quickly finish and leave. We were told to pay at the till once we were ready as she refilled our coffee cups.

All-in-all, I will be back again. Hopefully to try out something in the other side of the menu. Highly recommend that you give this place a try. Especially if you grew up when diners were the places for a good, quick meal...not like today’s junk food drive thrus!

Hey Dummies at Queens Diner, Adam and Steve would use the same bathroom as they are both men. If Steve felt he needed to change to Eve, then She would us the ladies bathroom. They have picked bathrooms you are the one having a hard time with it. Also, as a point of irony, you are called Queens Diner.

Please confirm your account to post your review
1.0 star rating 9/19/2016
Never Eat here. This shit hole excuse of a place doesn't even deserve one star. To have to live in Red Deer and see people make signs that Homophobic is disgusting. Just when you think the world is getting more accepting you put up a sign like that? You didn't even think " hey maybe this a bad idea"especially considering not to long ago over 50 people were shot in Orlando because of their sexuality. So even if you people consider this a "joke"clearly it isn't. The point you were trying to make I'm assuming was to transgender people and how they should stick to the same washrooms that they used before. Well first I'm guessing the person that decided to put up this sign was A. uneducated B. Doesn't understand the LGBT community, which in this case is all of the above. Maybe before you put up a sign you should actually do some research on what transgender is and not make a sign that makes you look even more stupid and pathetic. I hope all this backlash you're receiving is a SIGN that maybe you should realize what you're doing is wrong, and if they situation was reversed how would you feel about someone making "jokes" or fun of your sexuality.
Really awful food, tasteless! Also, while I ate, the owners tried to push their socially-backwards political views upon me. Very uncomfortable experience overall, and I'd recommend avoiding it. I think they're homophobic? It was a lot of ranting.
John Goodman's Wokest Bae
I didn't really like the food, it wasn't anything to write home about. The servers were ok but took awhile to have my water refilled. The Bigotry was complimentary but not appreciated.

Ryan Kemp
Queens Diner has every right to post their objection to homosexuality and transgender rights. And I will protect their right to say whatever they want. I will not try to censor them or sue them for expressing their opinion.

Having said that, I also reserve the right to give this homophobic garbage dump 1 star. You'll never have my business, and I'll make sure that none of my friends ever set foot into your awful, bigoted den of hate either. Thanks for continuing to give Alberta the stereotype of being filled with uneducated rednecks.
Heather Wood
Bigoted and insulting! Nobody asked you and your business to shout your homophobic rhetoric to the world, and nobody asked you to follow people into the washroom to judge weather or not they're following your personal ideals.

I couldn't give a flying f about who is in the stall next to me, so long as they pass the toilet paper if I were to run out.

And I certainly don't hate them based on an ancient book written in a cave and mistranslated a thousand different times.
Daniel
Bigotry, transphobia, and homophobia leaves a bad taste in my mouth, just like everything else about this place. Sad to see things like this being presented as the outlook of small business owners, and even more disappointed by the half assed 'apology' which was given to the media.
David Waugh
Come to Queen's Diner, where even their homophobic attitude screams 1950. Definitely a blight on the community of Red Deer and I'll probably just hold out until the next town the next time I'm headed through.
Captain Fancy Pants
Menu written in comic sans font is very distressing. I do not know why people to use comic sans font in any capacity. It is atrocious and very off putting.
Tamara Wiens
Homophobia and transphobia aren't on the menus of most restaurants. I don't think that Queens Diner should have added them to theirs. Shameful day for central Alberta.
Marc Power
The food would have tasted a lot better had it not been liberally seasoned with homophobia. A restaurant called Queens is just asking to be inundated with Alberta's top drag performers. It would brighten up the ambiance as well.
GenNeuGert
I will no longer support this eatablishment and I am embarassed for the owners ignorance despite the apology. Im not sure why the owners are associating who a person is attracted to with the washroom they use. Educate yourself! I'm sure they quickly found out that their sign is a contravention of the Alberta Human Rights Act (Public Signs and Gender). You can send a Human Rights Complaint form or letter within one year of date the sign was put up.
Madison Smyth
I have deleted my review with it's 5 point rating of Queen's Diner. To say I am shocked at that sign is to say the very least. If one believes in Adam and Eve then one must take note of Matthew 7:1 judge not , that you be not judged. Sad day for Red Deer and I stand firmly with our LGBTQ community.
Shawna Ware
Well aren't you guys full of intelligence. I had heard that the food at your establishment was pretty good. I will never try it. I will, however, make sure I pass along your message of intolerance to everyone I know. I am curious, is it just the LGBTQ community you are afraid of ? Or are people with disabilities and those of colour unwelcome too? Great business move by the way. Shaking my head at ignorance.
Megan Steiner
Thanks for posting that sign about Adam and Eve and not Adam and Steve. It's clear that I am not welcome in your restaurant. Thanks for making it crystal clear.
Kelly
I'll never eat at your homophobic restaurant. Thanks for making very clear to the public where you stand on this issue so we can let you know how we feel with (or without) our dollars.

Had to give a minimum score of 1.0
Trina Marie Maloff
"adam and eve not adam and steve. Pick a bathroom." Awful to spew hate on a public sign. People just need to pee, let them pee in peace ffs! Like why do you care, either way they'll be sitting on a toilet. Do you want a report of consistency and quantity as well as knowing the gender of the people who use the toilet in your restaurant? Super weird and awkward for you to care about something like that. Why don't use just hand out a checklist for prospective customers to fill in to see if they can appropriately order food, consume it and pay.. oh no wait.. those things aren't affected by gender or bathroom choice.
Justin T
Horrible food - my burger was sprinkled with homophobia and my drink contained bigotry. Stay away from this disgusting place. AWFUL! AWFUL! AWFUL!
Lindsay Ballagray
Too bad some people can't get over their own insecurities and/or religious phobias. There's lots of other businesses that are happy or at least open to serving everyone. Shame on you.
Amanda
Homophobes. It's 2016, get your life together. No room for those who spread hate, try spreading tolerance and acceptance instead. Good luck running a business this way.
Tyson Olfert
Delicious, nice place to go when you want good food and great service the people in there are awesome 🤘🤘👍👍 perfect environment for anyone
Very Dissapointed
Stopped for Breakfast and it was terrible mounds of unmelted butter on the toast, the Bacon was so over cooked that it crumbled to peices the overeasy eggs were hard the hashbrowns were gross they were like eating grease. This place has gone to hell in a handbag
KimBurly May
The food and staff are amazing. Love the old-school syle diner and their large variety of food on the menu. Always very clean and cozy. Best breakfast in town!
Randy Mengering
Awesome atmosphere, good pie!!
Burgers were excellent too. It has a very comfortable feel to the diner. It has south facing patio as well! It's tucked in an industrial area but well worth finding.
Marcello Delcaro
Best breakfast experience I've ever had in Red Deer. The hashbrowns were amazing. A lot of food for a good price! 10/10. Almost wanted to keep it a secret cause it's so good and it was not busy! Great work.
Amos Klassen
I really enjoyed eating here. The server was friendly and efficient. The food was great and the atmosphere was the way it should be with a diner. I loved the retro feel. It's definitely worth going there. The prices are good too.
The food is excellent as well as the service. We have been coming here every week for 3 years, since we moved to Red Deer and discovered this treasure!

Me and my wife came for lunch after seeing that this diner was highly recommended. I'm going to break down my overall review into 3 categories: ambience, service, and food. Ambience: I loved the vibe of this restaurant from the décor to the fifties tunes that were playing. They definitely got the ambience right. 5/5Service: Our waitress was very helpful. We came with our two small children, and our server helped with them, giving them coloring pages to help keep them entertained while waiting for our food. 4.5/5Food: I ordered the Queen's special burger with fries. This burger has two patties. My wife ordered the beef dip. Our fries were quite well done with a good crunch, though I prefer mine a little bit saltier. The toppings on my burger were great....BUT...The burger patties were completely overdone and dry. Also, if the bun was toasted I didn't notice. The bun really should be toasted to hold up to the contents which are heavy and hopefully juicy. The bottom bun was thin, untoasted, and therefore completely fell apart. I ended up having to eat bits and pieces with a knife and fork. As far as the patties being overdone, I realize that ground beef has to be cooked through, but a cook who knows what he or she is doing should be able to make a well cooked yet juicy burger. I should mention that my wife had exactly the same problems with her beef dip. The meat was dry, the bun wasn't toasted, overall just a sad beef dip. I think we both expected better from this diner. Based just on the food, she would have given this diner a rating of 1.5/5. For me, other parts of the food were quite well done, so I think I might be a little generous with a rating of 2.5/5 for the food.Overall we probably will not be back for lunch. We may at some time in the future come for breakfast. To sum up, I agree with another reviewer who said "They're not as good as they think they are."

Been coming here for the last few years and there's no place I'd rather go for a better home cooked meal. Everyone there goes beyond making you feel welcome and making you feel more at home than anything.

Great food, great atmosphere!. This place is a nice addition to Red Deer's dining options. It has a nice atmosphere and the food was great as well. The portion sizes were quite large and the value was great. It was busy on the Saturday morning that we went and remained steady. The staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this place for a unique dining experience in Red Deer.

Great Service and Great food. Hello all, very simply if you are in the Burnt lake industrial park looking for lunch, don't waste anymore time just go to Queens Dinner.

Amazing Local Restaurant!!. I absolutely LOVE everything I've ever ordered at Queens! The breakfast sandwich is my FAVORITE! Whether U want breakfast or lunch or a mid-day snack - the food stands out above other places in red deer! I love the diner feel and the service is absolutely amazing EVERYTIME!

Brian Tubbs. Great food, great service, reasonable prices. The ladies who serve are, funny, cute and quick. What more do you want!

Family stop- well worth it. Food was excellent- all had burgers with large portions and delicious sides. We were seated quickly and good came in a reasonable amount of time. Would gladly recommend and will stop here again on our travels.

So very impressed! I Had p.... So very impressed!
I Had paperwork to finish and decided to hangout in the diner and finish it.
After looking at the impressive classical features outside of the building including an antique payphone booth I stepped in the establishment and instantly I felt the love!
The experience was in my opinion that of what my grandmother would have experienced at a restaurant at my age.
I was greeted politely inside and seated myself to a Teal green vinyl seated diner table where the classical rock hits of this amazing Era were playing load and clear!
I Ordered a milkshake and finished my paperwork, dancing out of that building singing grease lightning and combing my grease filled hair cut tlike the outsiders! Awesome experience for a busy young man like myself fascinated by this wonderful generation.

Next stop drive in movie!
Jlkottmann
Not impressed.. I will not go back. Food was lackluster and the order was forgotten so 45 minutes later got a plate of bland uninteresting food. The decor has its charm, but I do not eat out for decor. I eat out for outstanding flavor, which this place lacks.
Maddiehaycock
A Hidden Gem. I was excited before even getting out of the car upon arriving at Queens Diner - it just looks like a great place to be! The inside decor is on point for an old style diner and I loved it! The service was brilliant - super friendly and the waitress (didn't catch her name) kept us laughing. The food is delicious - I can't remember the name of the sandwich I had but it had egg, ham and peppers in it and I'm definitely going to have to try recreate it at home! Not to mention the onion rings were probably the best I've ever had. If you live in Red Deer or are just passing through - this is definitely the one place you have to stop at! New favourite.
RandomCarpeDiem
They are not as good as they think they are..... Calypso Chicken Burger: Cajun spiced chicken, grilled onion, bell peppers and feta...I am basing this review on the fact that this is to be a CAJUN SPICED chicken burger...there is nothing remotely Cajun about it...the chicken was cooked nicely, it was tender and juicy, but there is no seasoning that remotely resembles a true Cajun style chicken burger, I actually could not taste any type of seasoning of any sort. The bun it was served on was soggy and barely held together...really bad when you get a burger with a soggy bun...nothing worse than that!

Onion RIngs: They were not greasy and they were properly cooked, but absolutely NO FLAVOUR and no dipping sauce...just very plain

Bacon Cheese Burger: Very typical, nothing special and at least the bun was not soggy.

Service: Friendly and quick...but rushed.

Love it!. I wish I could dine here more!! I absolutely love the vintage/retro feel and menu! Friendly staff and best design in town!

Amazing!. Great food, great atmosphere. Should be on the tv show You gotta eat here or diners driven and dives.

A hidden gem. We went as a work group for a colleagues birthday and it was a really nice surprise. I thought the interior was super cute - very clean and styled like a 50's diner. The wait staff are friendly, helpful and eventhough it was incredibly busy, took the time to explain the concept, answer any questions and have a few laughs with our table.

I would recommend this place but be advised that the google map indicated on Urbanspoon is not where this place is. You have to drive west on 67 St past Hwy 2. Make your first right at the lights and it's the second turn past the 4 way stop on your right hand side. Seems like you're driving into a very dangerous or weird place, but it is worth the trek. There are a lot of regulars who go, Lunch starts being served at 11, so if you are there earlier, you hit the breakfast crowd. The patio is cute, no scenery to look at unfortunately, but does serve for extra seating.

You can also take your meal to go. Phone ahead to order and pick it up to go so you don't have to worry about seating space.

Definitely would go back.

Burger Perfection. Queen Burger is the Best Burger I've eaten. Nuff said. And I signed up so I could say it.

Great job.
Crr
GREAT FOOD, GREAT PEOPLE. What a wonderful way to part with the fast food fiascos. Our entire team love the food and the atmosphere. It is the best!
Len Hamelin
Hands down best burger in Red Deer.
Wanda
Very good diner. Food is excellent!! Nostalgic atmosphere. Friendly waitresses that are very happy doing job & good prices too. Recommend to anyone and everyone.
Daniel George
It was decent food. Service was a bonus, everybody was happy... For the quality of the diner. Location is horrible, some flavours are pretty bland.
HughDaMan
Authentic Diner atmosphere, classic 50's music, old fashioned food and great service make this restaurant a must on your Red Deer eating experience. The classic queens burger is the best burger in Red Deer, and possibly Alberta. The seasoning of the patty give it a taste that can only be described as love wrapped in a bun.
Did I mention the homemade fries? I don't have to but let's just say they will have you wishing it was 1955.
Captain Face Stuffer
Food is way to greasy but the servers are hot.
Loraine.mardle
My new favourite place to eat. Fab food, Fab servers, Fab atmosphere. So glad after 8 years of living in Red Deer we have found this place, finally we can eat good hot food!
Reiko
LOVE THIS PLACE. Ok, my 10yo and I eat at the Diner at least 1 saturday a month. We LOVE this place. Never mind the wonderful, warm and inviting servers, the wonderful sense of humor, the great ambiance, the fun we have, we really just come here for the great food. Seriously, I've been eating at this place a couple of times a months for over a year, as I work in the area, and I am NEVER disappointed (except when they run out of soup or cheesecake!). My ONLY complaint is they don't have longer weekend hours, cause we'd spend way more time there! Love it Ladies, keep up all the great things you do, the great service, and the great food! And if you could find it in your heart to have bacon wrapped chicken strips, Carter would be thrilled!
Cali Klootwyk
Excellent food, great service and great place! I definitely recommend!
Amber Munro
It was awesome the service was great and the food is insanely good. Generous servings for your money.
Larry Drozda
I have been ordering my Lunch from the Diner for about a year now, couple times a month. Staff is amazing, food is Old School Diner FANTASTIC...just lately they changed there packaging, so I don't order there Fries anymore. Wrapped Deep Fried potatoes in a Bag are NOT pleasant!
Kevin Pierce Photography
I like Queens diner because it's got a 50's look and real honest to goodness down home cooking. Decent pricing, and real good food.
Anthony Biglieni
There's not enough places like this anymore. Will be back again when work brings me to RD!
Debbie Maki
We went for Breakfast this morning and it was very good!!! Yummy!!!
Great service also friendly

I took my granddaughter out for a birthday lunch, I wanted someplace different & kid friendly, the Queens Diner was perfect! Food & Service were both excellent- we will definitely be back with more family!
Trevor Capstick
The experience is truly one of a kind. Great staff, excellent portions and an atmosphere that will turn heads once you walk through the door. The only downside to this hidden gem is that it isnt a franchise.
Trevor Capstick, Sylvan Lake

Fantastic Diner. This place is absolutely a must place to go if you are into great food, great service and great prices. The home made burgers, pies and other menu items, are served with more than generous helpings. This is just a part of what keep us locals coming back. Not to mention the great service and atmosphere! We have been going there on a weekly basis for three years and will continue to keep coming back. By the way, imagine our surprise seeing our car in the parking lot add for this place! A lot of car enthusiasts bring our rides here trhoughout the summer which really fits in with the diner style.
Kris Wiszowaty
The food is classic diner style and very good. Make sure to say hi to the friendly staff who are always willing to get what you want no matter how busy they get, and at lunch, be early if you want a table.
Dawn Legault
Very nice. We stopped for lunch today and was quite surprised at the wonderful atmosphere, The staff was really busy but took the time to spend quality time with each table. The food was excellent, large portions, and quite fast.
I had one of the best clubhouses I have ever had, hubby had a classic omlet and loved it. The staff is very friendly. This is a hidden gem in Red Deer one we will certainley return to.
Timwhite
Fantastic. My family decided to try out the Queens after a few days of camping. Great food and wonderful staff. The manager welcomed us and did everything she could to make our time extra great. Will be back when we pass through Red Deer.
Polyesther
Absolutely charming diner. We had lunch here this weekend while stopping through Red Deer on our way to Stettler from Calgary. This diner was so highly rated on Urbanspoon that I just couldn't pass it up!

Queen's Diner gets a 11/10 for decor. I absolutely adore the 1950s style furnishings, which is incredibly charming. From the moment you step inside, you feel as though you've instantly been transported back in time. The staff were friendly and I love the small town mentality in the diner. The staff seemed to know a lot of the customers (and vice versa) and chatted with them congenially. I've never eaten in a diner before, let alone one adorned in 1950s decor and now I can confidently say that I have.

The menu is basic and serves typical diner food: burgers, sandwiches, breakfast, etc. The food is cooked well with generous portions and modest prices. My clubhouse sandwich was a monstrosity and I could barely fit it in my mouth, let alone finish. I struggled to finish even half the sandwich. The fries were delicious! But then again, I am a huge fry lover, especially when they are drenched in Heinz ketchup. My boyfriend ordered the bacon and eggs breakfast. Again, portion sizes were huge and it was challenge to finish.

I had a really good visit to Queen's Diner but I have to be honest: the food isn't spectacular nor is it terrible. I think a lot of the allure comes from the retro decor and the diner aspect. If you're looking for a good wholesome restaurant with great decor and equally great service, I highly recommend giving Queen's Diner a go!
Beth Colborne
Great Food Great Service. If you asked me for a list of my favorite restaurants - anywhere - Queens Diner would be on it! Walking through the doors is like stepping back in time with all the features you would expect in a classic, retro diner. The staff are GREAT and we always enjoy visiting and joking around with them. You can always spot the regulars and it's nice to just order "the usual". The food is EXCELLENT! Generous portions, modest prices and the breakfast punch card are just a few reasons to return. Personal favorites are the omelets, Reuben and the homemade soups. I work just down the road and my co-workers and I can easily be in and out in a half hour (as long as you are there by 11:40 to beat the lunch rush). I highly recommend it for the food, service and experience.
Brucewayne
Awesome place, great staff and service. Menu is basic, honest comfort food, cooked well with generous portions. Great diner.

They have the best fries, and one of the best Clubhouse sandwich. Love the old diner look also

Ambiance. Talk about back in time! Homemade burgers and fries fun and friendly staff light and entertaining atmoshpere. This is one of those unique little gems-a bit out of the way- but a real diamond in the rough.

Queen’s Diner fits right in with the surrounding – nothing like good, hearty meals for the tough, hard-working guys in the area.
