So after reading the reviews I was excited to try out this place. First of the GF and I were done eating in less than 25 mins....it’s super quick. The food was good. Nice and fresh!!! We couldn’t get margaritas or micheladas because the server didn’t know how to make them. And there was no beef selection for tacos. Only chicken and pork. And no guacamole. We were sad....maybe it was an off night but we definitely come back.
This was our first time visiting this restaurant. The owner immediately came over to our table and asked if we had been here before. He explained how the place worked and how the only way to get authentic Mexican food would be to go to a mexican persons house. He said they create the food as if it was in their home. I have to say the experience was wonderful. The food was incredibly delicious. The ingredients were fresh and the pico de gallo was so amazing I could eat it by the bowl. Start with the tortilla soup, you won't be disappointed. A genuine family atmosphere.
Very good food. The pork is really good, and of course the tortilla soup is the best. All their toppings and pico were very fresh. I wish they would have had fish though.. oh well, we will be going back and hopefully they will have some or I will inquire.
Amazing. Authentic Mexican. Great service.
It's easy to tell the owners are passionate about the food they serve.
Great Mexican soup.
Great everything.
Heard from friends about this place and jade and I decided we would try it, best decision we have made the taco buffet will be a monthly treat I'd say, service was amazing and food was fresh. The family like atmosphere was a true a pleasure and good vibes only in the restaurant. I recommend this place to everyone but it's very unique, you will have to try it to understand what Im saying. Enjoy!
Awesome! Love this place. Affordable and super delicious! Love the fresh ingredients, authentic food, and finally something other than chain food! Owners are super friendly and offer right away to show you how things are done!
You arrive, get a seat preferably the one under the picture of the owners grandfather. Then the owner or his wife come out take your beverage order and then it's off to make your taco or your personalized tortilla soup! The action is simple you have your soft corn taco shells and your fillings, rice, chicken, corn, zucchini, potatoes, beans, pork, grilled onions. Then you move on to the toppings onion and cilantro, home made spicy salsa, homemade guacamole, homemade pico de gallo, to name a few! Same rule applies for the soup except there's tortillas and soup broth to start!
This place is like being invited into there home!
And then if you didn't think it could get any better they have ice cream for dessert!
Again 🌮 🌮 🌮 🌮 🌮 out of 🌮 🌮 🌮 🌮 🌮!!
P.S. I drove all the way from Edmonton just to eat here!!
Love going to this place when I'm feeling especially hungry. The owner has an obvious passion for his food and his business. Staff are always friendly and working hard to keep the tasty food topped up. I enjoy being able to add another restaurant to the list of amazing vegan options in the area.
Soup was great, tacos were great, lemonade was great, ice cream was great, price was great. Only hiccup I saw was they only had mild pico or spicy salsa, nothing in the moderate category. Went with a friend who's from Guadalajara and he approved, so you know it's authentic. Overall a great meal.
I had put off going to this place a year ago and recently went with my daughter. Were promptly seated, provided with a pitcher of lemonade, and invited to help ourselves at the buffet. It wasn't a huge selection as other reviewers have indicated, but what was there was delicious, fresh (regularly replenished), and could be used to create various combinations of tasty plates. Was also surprised at the end how inexpensive it was for my daughter. :) looking forward to coming back later in the year to try it again.
So good!
The only downside is that it can be a lot of the same style food but whenever I drive through Red Deer I stop there!
The price is right in the ball park unlike most over priced Mexican food restaurants in Canada.
Went there once with my co-workers. The food was damn tasty and super messy, in a good way. However I found the options where a bit limited when we where there but overall it is a little jewel in Red Deer.
Had to travel to red deer for work and looked this place up. I was starving so I was glad the I could get eating immediately. It's run by a local Mexican family. It's fairly authentic and it's all you can eat abs if your hungry it's of good value. If your in Red Deer and you want to stuff your face with above average Mexican food check it out.
Nicely done. This is family style Mexican taco place. You walk in, you get your lemonade, your soup and fix your own tacos from the buffet. This is true Mexican style, not the Americanized stuff we're used to. Think more beans and pico de Gallo, less cheese, less salt. We really liked it, and would recommend it to anyone in the mood for a fast fresh and authentic taco.

Very authentic! Met the owner Will and he explained that "in Mexico, you would find a lot of buffet houses like this one. Not expensive food, but good and authentic".
Trip down memory lane. I went to Red Deer a couple of days back with a good friend of mine to reminisce on old memories of our home town.
After a ride around town, my friends and I decided to stop by a somewhat of a new restaurant in Red Deer called the Old Mexico Taco Buffet. Us being very obsessive over tacos decided to dine there for lunch.
For 12.50 per person you really can’t complain.
The restaurant serves homemade corn tortillas with a decent selection of ingredients to fill your tacos with.
I wouldn’t say my friend is particularly picky, but he is not one to like rice or any form of soup, but since it is a buffet he decided to try out everything he can and loved it. Everything had so much flavor, the only thing I could’ve ask for is hot sauce, but aside from that it was amazing and well priced.
They even had upbeat Mexican music playing and served ice cream at the end of your meal.
So to anyone in Red Deer or passing by, I suggest trying to place out if you want to get a good meal for cheap.
Muy Delicisio!. My husband and I ate here for the first time last week and it was truly excellent! The owner greeted us like we were old friends and even helped me build my first ever bowl of tortilla soup. (So yummy!) We've been looking for a good Mexican Restaurant for nearly four years now and this was by far the best we've found. We will be eating here every time we come to Red Deer from now on.
A REAL TASTE OF OLD MEXICO !. Did the Old Mexico Taco Buffet last night about 6pm. If you have ever travelled through the old parts of Mexico away from the touristy parts. Then you will recognize a lot of the dishes are old world authentic Mexican. This is not a large buffet just good size with good food. Noticed no cheese was present any where as the quality of food stands on its own. Everything was stocked right up and very clean. Staff was very friendly and prices are really reasonable. Will go back
Great food. A bit expensive for lunch.. What seemed to be Authentic Mexican food. Very good food, and friendly staff. My only gripe was it was a bit expensive just for lunch. However if it was supper and I wanted to fill my face. I'd definitely go there, as long as they didn't run out, as they were a little slow in replenishing the food in the buffet.
Fantastic service and the best Mexican food I've had north of Arizona! A must try if you have not been there! The chicken tinga tacos were the highlight of the buffet. The owner was a true gentleman and a fantastic chef. Best food in Red Deer!
Terrific food. We were in from out of town and looking for a place all the reviews said that this place was great and they could not have been more right. The service was friendly and funny and the food was amazing. Can't wait to return
A Funny Little Curiosity. What an interesting little place. From the minute you peek your head through the door, you know that this is going to be a different dining out experience. In fact, it doesn't feel like dining out at all; more like being fed in the kitchen of that Mexican uncle and aunt you never knew you had. A few sombreros and serapes adorn the minimally-dressed room full of tables with mismatching tablecloths. Along one end are three simple tables arranged with the kind of warming dishes you'd expect to find keeping your sausages warm in a hotel's free breakfast lounge.
Evident that my party of two didn't know what we were doing when we arrived at opening time, we were seated and offered some homemade lemonade (quite watered down and unfortunately, not very cold on a hot day when we could've used it); cans of Coke or ginger ale, and bottles of water were also available to purchase. As the morning's tortillas were warming, the owner greeted us and kindly demonstrated how to serve ourselves the perfect tortilla soup (it's well known that Albertans don't know how to make Mexican food, limited as we are in our authentic south-of-the-south-of-the-border restaurants). Thanks to his advice, we enjoyed the best tortilla soup I've found in Alberta, and what I would crown as the highlight of the meal.
With the tortillas ready, we experimented with different combinations of tacos (ten of them between the two of us). Corn, potatoes and onions, mushrooms, Mexican rice and beans are available as fillers; chicken and ground beef as meat. The cold toppings will spice up your tacos: homemade pico de gallo, onions and cilantro, red salsa and MUST-HAVE pickled jalapenos are on hand, with lettuce and sour cream to help balance the heat with cool. That's it; you've just read the whole (main course) menu, and that's all you'll need. (NOTE: You will not find cheese here, not matter how accustomed we Canadians are to finding it on our tacos; that's not an ingredient on traditional Mexican tacos, which focus on freshness over fullness.)
The tortillas were soft (perhaps a bit too soft after being heated in a crock pot), but did the job of transporting the other ingredients into my mouth. The corn and mushrooms added an essential something to the pretty-good chicken and beef. The best flavours, however, came from the pickled peppers and pico de gallo.
Throughout the experience, we conversed with the owner, who told us the story of how he came to Canada, and how the kitchen came to be. Once again I got the feeling of a cheerful Mexican uncle who had been waiting eagerly for my visit so he could give me a good meal.
After our tacos, we were reminded not to forget our ice cream; vanilla, chocolate, bubble gum and (the obvious choice) orange and cream were the day's offerings, and visitors get to experience a day in the life of an ice cream shop worker as they reach deep into the freezer to scoop their own desserts, which provide a much-welcomed cold finish to a hot meal.
All of this was ours for only $15 each; as with all buffets, the more you eat, the more you get your money's worth, so don't come if you eat like a bird or you're looking for an afternoon snack. Cheaper prices are available for children.
This establishment earns a definite recommendation; how much you enjoy its limited menu the first time will determine whether or not you consider it worthy of a repeat visit. Knowing I've tried everything it offers, I probably won't be back for a while, but am glad I discovered this little kitchen in downtown Red Deer.
Absolutely amazing place. Had heard so much about it and finally went. The minute I walked in I knew it was going to be a unique experience. The nice man who I am assuming is the owner greeted us and showed us how to make the PERFECT taco soup. The food was fantastic, and definitely will be coming back!!
Love the food!. The tortilla soup is a great way to start the meal, so flavorful. I love the pitchers of drinks they put on the table, a nice touch. The food is filling and tasty and great homemade pickles and hot sauces. Great value.
AMAZING!. SO good! My new favourite!
Delicious!!. Ate at the old mexico taco buffet because of all the good reviews, and the fact that it seems like the owners actually go on here and read the reviews and comment on bad service or unsatisfied customers, seemed like they care about what there customers think. Was not disappointed, all of the food was delicious and there was a lot of variety with what you could do with the food. You could make tacos, or nachos, they had taco soup which was delicious, and ice cream. The only thing i wish was that the tortillas where a little bit bigger, it was hard to wrap them if u put more than a little bit in them. Besides that though it was awesome and if you want a good buffet i would say this is the place to go.
Very good and very fresh...
Fantastic. We found this little gem for the first time tonight, the food was great the owner was helpful and fun what a nice way to be treated. We will definitely be back.
Best mexican food in town! Homemade everything. Nothing fast food about this place authentic. Love the owner he is the best! Thank you the good food and laughs. :)
This was a great choice for Mexican food, owners on site gave a personal and friendly touch, and the food was fabulous. Just keep in mind it's a Taco buffet, the options are tacos or tacos. One of my new favorite places!
Awesommmmmmmmmmme ! Only.... Awesommmmmmmmmmme !
Only complaint is that their kitchen ventilation wasn't working and restaurant was quite Smokey . I took home the smell of Mexico with me :)
Foods great ! Owner actually cares how youre food tastes
Wish Edmonton had this . Gotta visit red deer more often lol
It's surprising to me that Red Deer has Mexican food this good. Great tacos. Pico De Gallo was delicious. Highly recommended.
Great tacos and celiac friendly!!!. Food was fresh, flavourful and best of all for me... ALL GLUTEN FREE! Will recommend this wonderful gem of a restaurant to all my friends and family. Olé!!!
Awesome! Super simple in design and decor, but owners present with smiles on their faces and lived the buffet of tacos! Very authentic I thought & YUM.
AMAZING!!! A great place to eat home cooked mexican food. Everything is fresh and delicious. Looking forward to eating there again very soon.
Best in Alberta. After traveling to Mexico 13 times, Will serves the most authentic soft tacos I have tasted in Canada.
I cannot offer enough praises and tell everyone I meet to try the food.
Again and again we return and are overwhelmingly delighted
Today's Atole was an absolute pleasure.
Amazing. Old Mexico Taco Buffet is amazing, the food is simple rustic traditional mexican , full of bold flavor with just enough heat to let ya know its there... The staff is pleasant polite and very friendly .... Weather you are eating alone or meeting friends or having taco tuesday with the family ....I strongly recommend sampling the food ...... I give it 4 outta 5
Excellent food, fresh is always best. I will go back
Authentic yummy Mexican. Came here once on a drive through. Been back 4 times now!
Even worth the trip from Calgary.
My picky kids even eat it esp
ecially the icecream at the end!
Great job and hospitallity to all the staff.
I'll be back!
This was exactly what we were looking for on our trip home to Calgary from Edmonton. The food was so delicious, fresh and authentic. The owner was wonderful, as was the service and the atmosphere. The restaurant was super busy, but that's a testament to how good it is! We'll be going back the next time we're in town. Eat here!
Awesome service, very friendly. Great authentic food. Amazing experience, will go back for sure.
It was delicious and fresh. We felt like the restaurant owner/manager was very courteous.
What a great meal. I heard about this place and seriously was amazing,so fresh and tasty and the price to was cheap only 15 all you can eat?is the best mexican food i ever had,I will come back and back and back
My wife and I have been looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant for YEARS! We finally found it. Seriously. So good. We're from Calgary and it's worth the trip. The tacos were amazing and we really enjoyed the lemonade, not to mention the great prices. We also felt the staff truly cared about our experience. See you again soon, we're telling all of our friends!
I just took my mom out to lunch here. The food was fantastic (especially the tortilla soup). I will be stopping in on my next trip through Red Deer for sure.
Just finished eating here yummy will be back
Old Mexico Taco Buffet - Delicioso!. Great new culinary offering for Red Deer! You've really got to try this place. Host/chef Will instantly welcomes you to his taco buffet -- yes, a taco buffet -- with a friendly smile, a quick run down of all of the fresh authentically Mexican buffet items and informs you that the limit is 50 tacos per person. "Fifteen?" I ask. "No, fifty," he says. "After that, you let me know and I have to charge you twice, okay?"
It wasn't even close. I made it to five and was happily stuffed. The pico de gallo is incredible. For $15 per person, you'll be hard pressed to find a better, more delicious deal in town. We'll be back... and back... and back...
Awesome experience! Good food and completely GLUTEN FREE!!

Amazing food and so much for the money. Definitely will go back
Nutritious and Delicious. The buffet had a good mix of spicy and savory. We brought in our family of 8 and there was something for everyone. The kids loved the nachos and my husband and I loved the tacos. The vegetables were fresh and the salsas were DELICIOUS! We will definitely be returning. Very affordable for such a wonderful meal. The best part was the way my body felt after the meal. I felt invigorated. Thank you for a meal that tasted like home cooking. From a mother who loves to cook it is hard to find a restaurant that satisfies my palate. We will be back :) GRACIAS!
YUM. So fantastic! the food was great, however, when i went, they only had red meat options, and i dont eat read meat so would be nice if they would have a chicken or fish option! However, i had just vegitarian tacos and OMG the guac was the best thing i have ever tasted. The staff was very open to suggetion, friendly and made sure we were taken care of! For any big eaters out there, my boyfriend, who can never seem to get full, had plenty to eat, and was so satisfied...for on $15/ persobn...i thought it was great value
Amazing authentic little joint. Friendliest staff I have seen in a long time. You can tell how fresh the food is off the first bite. Definitely recommend!
Absolutely delicious, by far the best Mexican food in Red Deer, very friendly staff. I would recommend everyone try this place
Great food, very good authentic Mexican food and friendly people!
@Alex B. We are very sorry for the inconvenience. The day we closed early was because we ran out of food because yes it is that good. Running out of food of course says a lot about how inexperienced we are in this business, however the way you were treated by the member of our staff is not acceptable and we had a meeting about it already, our apologies. We are a very friendly staff and want to provide the costumer our best service and food. And bad experiences like this sure help us improve, thanks for your feedback. (:
A nice change. Found this place last night and decided to give it a try, I'm glad we did. Great mexican food, at a reasonable price. I will Defiantly go back.
My God what great food!!. I have been to Juarez, and you would think you were in mexico. from the music, the friendly chats with the owners, and the incredible food, you are most definitely south of two borders!!! As a HUGE fan of the culture and the food, you are definitely missing out if you pass this place by. you will be most impressed by the cuisine, as well as the incredible service, all served with the most heart felt smiles!! Do not pass this pace by!!!!!!
Real mexican food. The food is tasty and fresh lots of variety
Super tasty!! Very good food, great staff and reasonable prices. I'd even pay more actually!
It was really yummy! My favourite was my tortilla soup. Great flavour. Nothing is spicy, so it's nice for people like myself. My friend added jalapenos to his.

We were the only ones in the restaurant when we showed up around 12:45 p.m. on a Saturday. We assumed it was going to be much busier than this.
We were a little worried about actually eating because of how empty the place was ( But we stayed based on a referral from a friend of ours.)
Once we sat down and the fresh tacos were served. We helped ourselves to the tortillas soup. We couldn't understand why this place was empty.
The food was delicious, the staff were fantastic, and the ambiance was as Mexican as you can get.
I will be coming back here again when I'm in the area.
This is some of the best Mexican food I have ever had and I have eaten a lot cause it's my favourite. The tortilla soup is great, but I went for the TACOS. It's very authentic. The owner told me to order a Paloma instead of a Margarita, and it was very tasty. Definitely will be a regular stop for me!
Great change in the menu! Still awesome food. Not TexMex in here, TRUE & AUTHENTIC Mexican Food!!
I can't say enough great things about this place! 5* Amazing authentic mexican food. Came here for dinner with the family & we all enjoyed our meals. The all you can eat buffet has everything you want when craving mexican food. They have all the taco fixings you can think of chicken, pork & beef and everything is homeade. Make sure to go for extra guac 🥑 they also serve tortilla soup, roasted potatoes & rice at the buffet so make sure you come to this restaurant hungry.
Great price for great food. Honest and authentic Mexican food in a very unassuming place in downtown Red Deer. I particularly enjoyed the unpretentious nature of how the food and restaurant is presented unlike other authentic Mexican restaurants in the big cities that cater to a more yuppie crowd. Very down to earth with great food. Just what i like.
Great food, the right mix of flavours and textures. The owner is really friendly.
