Amazing food, amazing atmosphere. A great place to go to have lunch and escape from the city. Port Renfrew is a cool little town, and this cafe is one of its gems. Staff are friendly, helpful, and super chill.

Update (June 2017):
Menu has changed. More streamlined. And feel is more restaurant-style and organized, without the awkward chalkboard menu. Outdoor patio has expanded too. Will be serving wood fire pizza soon. Owner has a vision and is transforming Coastal into a more contemporary place. Veggie burger is no longer the massive soft bean patty burger, which I thought was very good. New burger is a deep fried falafel patty. Doesn't feel as homemade and "hippy" but still decent just different. Still a great destination after a pleasant coastal drive and beach trek.

Original review:
Food is great. Menu is local and varied serving breakie and lunch. Price and portion are reasonable. A perfect patio pitstop after a long scenic tour along the coast.
The "hippy" veggie burger is tasty: big size, homemade vegan patty and loaded with messy flavour. Our ritual visit for a hard-earned feast after a multi-day trek in the wild (while backpacking we dream about our "reward" meal...). A must visit after a trail adventure (mind us muddy, sweaty, tired hikers gleefully chowing down on delicious real food!)
Will be revamping menu, hours and making brick oven pizza this summer season. A favourite for locals and tourists so expect a wait, but it's Renfrew so kick back and relax.
**NOTE**********
- Only open seasonally (closed for winter and typically reopen beginning of May)
- Closed one day a week (Wednesdays, sometimes Thursdays) and only open late certain days
*** important to call or check Facebook page for up-to-date info...

Why go to the other place?!?. Okay no ocean view here - but there is plenty of that on your way. Sitting out in the garden on a sunny day.... Incredible food, super fabulous service, overall incredible experience. Only downfall was they had run out of the baked goods many have raved about. Oh well...... Maybe next time. Super generous portions. I had the Hippy Burger. I think it was the best veg burg i have ever encountered.

The best fish and, usually, chips you'll get anywhere. This place is cozy and friendly, and its a favorite of both locals and tourists for good reason. There are seats inside and out, and on a hot day the garden is the perfect oasis for a coffee break or lunch. Their specialty is fish - salmon, cod, and halibut - and you won't get fresher fish anywhere. The chips are great when they're freshly made too, but they aren't always. The Caesar salad is also really good and they'll substitute it for fries in the fish and chips. The chimichanga is ok if you're not a fan of real Mexican food.

Delicious haven from the rain. Soaked in a torrential rain, we entered the first place we saw. We were glad we did. Some of the best food any of us had eaten (in my 17 years of eating veggie burgers, this was unquestionably the best--everyone else was quite happy with their burgers and fish), with a great atmosphere and warm, friendly service. This is the sort of hidden gem I can picture on a "Best of Canadian Restaurants" television show.

Food was made from scratch and was delicious. Fries were homemade and piping hot. We had the Coastal burger and the Hippy burger as well as the seafood chowder. Everything was delicious. Décor could use a bit of overhaul as everything seems out of place and disorganized. Nice place if you happen to be around.

Like the other motorcyclists have said, this place is fantastic, friendly staff and wonderful food. In addition to bikes, there are hikers and families eating here too, so this is a warm and friendly place. Double patty organic bison burger is great, as is the full fillet salmon burger.

Next time you're in Port Renfrew be sure to stop by, you will not be disappointed!!

On the road again. When doing the circle route this is the place to stop for food, and water your horse. Happy trails and fuel up in Sooke if you are riding a tiny tank two wheeled chainsaw.

Great Food on the Rugged West Coast. As any avid motorcyclist in Victoria can tell you, the West Coast Road to Port Renfrew and then connecting to the Pacific Marine Road to Lake Cowichan is hands down the best ride on southern Vancouver Island. Every weekend, when the weather co-operates, hundreds of riders hit this route.
Also each weekend, dozens of riders will stop in at the Coastal Kitchen Café for breakfast, lunch or early dinner. There’s a reason for this – the food is outstanding and the atmosphere is a very typical laid-back West Coast style.
I’ve been a bit of a regular at the Coastal Kitchen Café for three years now, eating there dozens of times. I can honestly say I’ve not had a bad meal. Best bets are the fish and chips, halibut fillet, seafood chowder, burgers and salads that often contain produce grown in the café’s garden.
Service is pretty quick, but you have to grab your own tea, coffee or pop from the front and the menu is listed on a blackboard behind the cash register. You can either eat inside our outside in the garden or on patio/veranda.
My normal bill for an entrée and non-alcoholic drink is around $17 dollars after tax, but before tip.
If you find yourself in Port Renfrew and need to eat, best bet is the Coastal Kitchen Café. You’ll mostly likely leave impressed and pretty full.

Good food, casual vibe. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. Try the veggie burger and fries for an excellent vegetarian option. The atmosphere is definitely laid-back west coast with friendly staff and nice outdoor seating.

If you like London Fogs, try their Renfrew Fog (lavendar)! It was so amazing, we stopped again to grab one for the drive back to Lake Cowichan. Hubby and I both had the Tuna Melt (and craved another for the rest of our vacation!) The staff and food were fantastic! We will be back!!
