I selected ‘Lougheed Wonton’ for our lunch venue recently - a first time dining experience for us, and one that was long overdue. We arrived and parked out front just a few minutes before it opened at 10:30 am (a Saturday).
We were greeted by a server as we entered and shown to one of the 4-person tables along a side wall of the restaurant. Menus were left (dim sum & lunch specials menu, plus, main in-house menu) - a pot of hot tea arrived quickly after. Our server then left us to ponder the many menu choices. With it being a first time experience there, before placing our order we had a few questions for our server re: particular dishes, and found her to be most-helpful and accommodating, which we sure appreciated.
What was ordered (dishes selected from restaurant’s main menu): Wonton Soup (w/broccoli - large order) — Sweet & Sour Boneless Pork (w/pineapple, green pepper - small order) — Sauteed Rock Cod w/Vegetable Chow Mein (broccoli, bok choy, baby corn, cauliflower, carrot, mushroom) — Spicy Salt & Peppery Squid — Chef’s Special Chow Mein w/Soft Noodles (bok choy, mushroom, prawns, squid, chicken, bbq pork).
Dishes came from kitchen to table in a nice even, and timely manner, the ingredients of each looking fresh, bright, and appetizing, and definitely perking the taste buds. Subsequent savouring of all the various aromas, textures, and tastes, sure proved the excellent quality and freshness of ingredients used, and skills in the kitchen with their preparations. Absolutely nothing greasy, salty, or overcooked. Dishes distinctly, but rather subtly flavoured — cooking methods, and sauces, stocks, and spices used, each contributing to these overall wonderful tastes, but nothing overtaking the end result.
It’s been a long while since I (we) have been served, and truly-enjoyed Cantonese Chinese cuisine as authentic and well-prepared as these dishes!!
Wonderful Chinese dining experience. I love their chicken chow mein, all types of fried rice, and spicy pork spare ribs. We sometimes order lobster with blackbean sauce, which is truly awesome. But the lobster is obviously expensive so we can only afford to order once in a while...
was recommended this place by my bestie. had my early Father's Day dinner here yesterday. good thing i made a reservation because the place started to get REAL busy in 30 minutes (we were there at 5:30pm). lots of ppl were standing ard the main area for pick-up. the decor isn't the greatest, i have to admit and same with the service. the waitresses were rushing us a bit for our order. they tried to justify it by saying that it'll get busy so better put your order ASAP but still. didn't rly like that but that was the only downfall of the evening. we ordered a 3-dish dinner set that came with rice, soup and dessert. we had a roast pork and sole filet pot, Peking pork chops and fresh squid with choy sum. the pork chops were delish - i didn't like the peas that came with the dish but meh. the pot was loaded with the sole filets, not a highlight for my dad lol. and the veggie dish was all veggies - not the usual chinese skimp out when it comes to veggie dishes. the soup came in an old-fashioned pot - so cute i missed seeing those. the rice wasn't that loaded in the pot but im sure you can ask for refills. dessert was a choice of a chinese sweet soup (red bean was the one that night) or mango pudding. i had the mango pudding - not overtly sweet, it had the robinson mango jelly/pudding taste (HK peeps will know what im taking abt) but lacked mango fruit in it which was a bummer. the red bean soup, which my parents had, was good but rather too thick. going to come back again and try some other stuff - maybe dimsum too!
I must say that despite low expectations, this place was a pleasant surprise. The food here was decent and the service and atmosphere was genuinely friendly. I liked their down to basics attitude to menu selections and really liked their commitment to qulaity.
You won't find anything here that you haven't had before, but you will appreciate it when you eat it here.
This is the old location that was located beside Uncle Willy's before redevelopment on North Road and Cameron. It's now located on Saint John's in Port Moody. Food is still as good as it was 7 years ago, Clean and Fresh.
Favorite !. I cannot t go a week with out eating at this restaurant. I have been going for years and have never been disappointed . the food is fresh fast and oh so good !
Lougheed Wonton. Dishes were all around very decent. mild in flavors and not too salty. inside atmosphere is sorta dead-in need of a reno, or some big tvs, or lights or something?? street parking in front is limited to 15 mins but there is parking at the rear
Nothing fancy, but consistently good. We go here with my Chinese in-laws a few times a year. The food is consistently tasty, with good portions, although we tend to order more typically Chinese dishes than Canadian-Chinese dishes. The staff are friendly enough, although incredibly busy. The service is typical of Chinese restaurants and matches the size the the tips they usually get.
AMAZING FOOD! It beats every other Chinese Restaurant I have ever eaten at! The Deep Fried Wonton's alone are amazing! If you want great food go here! Last time we picked up Chinese food it was from some place in Maple ridge and it was very disappointing. This place never disappoints me.
Traditional Chinese Restaurant in Port Moody!. I was surprised when I walked into this restaurant... the outside decor was not impressive, but when I walked in there were round tables everywhere filled with patrons! The tables and the fish tanks are what I have come to expect at traditional Chinese restaurants. The food and prices were excellent and they had all my favourites (Hot Pots, Crab, Lobster etc.). I will definitely be back when craving some good Chinese Food.
Good if it's about the food. Like most family-run Chinese restaurants, it might not be the most modern nor clean looking place but the food is great. In a competitive market the food has to be good and good value if you see 90%+ asians in the restaurant (I'm 2nd-gen Chinese myself). I've tried about a third of the menu now (including dim sum) and have not been disappointed. Just placed an order for take-out, on my way to pick it up.
I agree with the rest of the reviews...if you can get over the cleanliness factor, your gonna love the food! Dim Sum is spectacular. I travel from Maple Ridge to eat here. If your looking for the same caliber of food in a cleaner environment, try "Rainbow Butterfly" in Port Coquitlam.
SURPRISE !!. Ok lets start by saying ..come on a lot of these type of places look old etc etc ..its about the food ..And what a shocker !!! the dim sum was really good !! we had 5 or 6 dishes and i have to say they were all above average , service was great also ( it was dead but we were there at 10:30am ) I cannot comment on anything else on the menu as we haven't tried it ,,,, but we will be on the basis of this visit . !! Try it you may get a surprise like we did .
Thumbs up!. This food is really good! If you can look past the outdated, dare I say slightly dirty restaurant, and less than average service then you're in for an amazing ride for your taste buds because this restaurant definitely delivers on the food! If good chinese food is what you are looking for, then you've found it. This food is tasty and definitely makes your tiny taste buds do a very happy, happy dance. Not only is the food awesome, but it's very easy on my hubby's wallet. We come here time and time again. Sure, some dishes may be a little greasy, but it's the yummy, greasy good kind.
GREAT FOOD. We order #4 dinner selection and it is awesome for feeding four adults. the food is great and is very tasty
