A few days ago I was in the mood for some authentic Mexican cuisine. The Original's Café Mexicano has been on my list of places to try for quite some time. I finally decided to give it a go!
I knew the restaurant was in an old house so I wasn't thrown when I walked up the stairs and in the front door. Once inside I was greeted by a lovely waitress who told me I could sit anywhere, she brought me over a water and a menu without any delay.
Shortly thereafter the waitress returned to take my order. For my beverage I ordered the Guava Jarritos, I absolutely love Jarritos! To eat I started with four of the traditional corn tortilla style tacos, two of them with chilorio filling and the other two of them vegetarian. The soft tacos were served with a green sauce that I enjoyed. The tacos themselves were very very tasty! For my main course I ordered the Enchiladas Verdes with chicken as the protein, it came with three rolled up tortillas topped with green tomatillo sauce, melted cheese, lettuce, onion and sour cream, served with a side of beans. The Enchiladas were so good that I ended up ordering the Enchiladas Rojas as well. This one was slightly different, it came with a spicy red sauce and feta cheese. On this order I switched the Chicken for Beef and also added a side of guacamole. The guac was so tasty and fresh, I wonder if they sell it?! If they do I would totally buy it! I absolutely loved both orders of the Enchiladas, they were so rich in flavour. You could really tell that they use quality ingredients!
They really don't mess around here. The authenticity and food quality is top notch! I absolutely love Mexican cuisine and they did NOT disappoint. I have many things I would like to try on the menu so I will DEFINITELY return!
Wonderful place, and excellent staff. Soul-enriching food (the chilaquiles and tres leches cake! delightful!). I'm very happy to have visited, and will definitely be back.

I loved it!! not only the food but the service, the place is so cozy, I felt like I was in Mexico when I was inside. The only place I have been that serves authentic Mexican Style Margaritas . I also loved that they sell some Mexican staples like Valentina and Yucateco salsas :D YUM Cant wait to go back

I loved their Margueritas & enjoyed it with chicken tacos & carnitas tacos Uhmmmm.... so good. �Also great service & cozy atmosphere. Will be back for sure!!!

It was a bright and sunny Saturday, and we were just exploring the great outdoors of Port Moody. Since our stomachs started to growl at 4:00 PM, we decided to drop by Originals Cafe Mexicano for early supper. This place seemed to be a neighbourhood favourite. It was already quite packed at 4:00PM. From the outside, the Cafe looked like someone’s little house. The vibe was casual and authentic.
Bottom line: My friend Cassandra recommended that I try Original's Cafe Mexicano because they have gluten-free options. This place is really cute from the outside, a tiny little house that is a restaurant. Our server gave us her favourites and we basically went for it. Overall, the tacos were pretty good, not the best I've ever had but still pretty good!
Great food, great service. Best margaritas in town. Congrats! Will be back soon to get another Chile relleno and some tacos de rajas con crema.
I'm giving this place a 3.5. The food deserves a 4.5 but the service is so terrible at this place that I had to subtract points for it. How bad was it you ask? As a table of 5, we were there for 3 hours. It took about 45 min for drinks and to take our order then the rest of the meal poured out of the kitchen like molasses. Several times we had to get up to get the servers attention at all and when we did, we were given stink eye and attitude. We were most certainly not being unreasonable when this place is so small. The crowd should be easily handled.
On a positive note, the food here is truly excellent. The best Mexican I've had in the lower mainland. Special mention goes to the Enchiladas Rojas. Nothing here is dumbed down and if you can stomach the terrible service, this is a great place to eat.
My partner is fond of Mexican food, he goes out of his way to find and try Mexican cuisine all around the Lower mainland. At this point he has his favourite spots in various cities. This would be our first time here, and it would soon be the only place we know for Mexican cuisine when in Port Moody.

my only regret is that we went and had a little too much to eat before arriving here for dinner. It's really rare to taste such homey but balanced flavours but presented really well. Honestly really great value and I would like to come back again for a second time.

Felt like I had a home cooked mexican meal with all the perfect flavors. Everything tasted fresh and was portioned perfectly.

I have been looking for a decent Mexican restaurant in my area for awhile and luckily came across this place.
I opted to take my girlfriend here for lunch. As per other reviews, this place is definitely easy to miss from the street; the only thing that stood out was the Mexican flag on the porch.
We went in and sat down, had the place to ourselves at first, which surprised us since it was about 1pm. We ordered sangria, figuring it would be good. Boy were we ever wrong. They weren't merely good, they were excellent! Well worth the wait it took for them to arrive. We ordered starters: molletes for myself, chicken tacos for her. Also ordered our mains, which were tostadas carnitas with a side of rice and enchiladas verdes. My only peeve was that they all arrived at the same time. Still, the food was amazing, the best Mexican I've had in a very long time.
After lunch we opted to get arroz con leche (rice pudding), with chocolate calientes and latte horchata. The rice pudding was nice and creamy, not too sweet, with nice cinnamon flavour. The chocolate calientes was delicious, essentially a homemade hot chocolate with what I swear was a nice hint of cinnamon. The latte horchata was nothing special and tasted no different than any other latte I've had.
The bill for lunch with all those items came to about $68 before tip. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would love to come back!
Great little gem of a Mexican restaurant in Port Moody. Yum. Good prices. Good food. Parking. Good service.
DESPERATELY need additional serving staff. Twice I've called in to reserve, without anyone answering, and both times I've stood waiting for someone to acknowledge me before finally telling me it would be a 15/20 minute wait befor a server would even be able to take our order, despite numerous empty (although dirty) tables. It's a shame because the food is fantastic. Hopefully the owner reads this and invests in some much-needed staff. Or business is sure to suffer--nobody wants to wait an hour for Mexican, no matter how good it might be.
Lets just say... I was a little confused by the outside appearance of the house, that was the Resturant. Once inside, very stuffy & not very good ventilation, ( all the windows were condensated up) was a very cool layout in the old house. Had reservations and were sat right away. But waited a 12 min until someone came to the table. Server arrived drinks, appy & mains were ordered , all the drinks, food came out quickly. I loved the food. Friendly staff...Excellent 3 milk cake.

AMAZING!. AMAZING food! Just awesome. I love the overall feeling of the restaurant...small, quiet, homey and comfortable. But hands down the best part was how fresh and authentic the food is. Been there twice and can't say enough about it. Try the milk cake, the authentic Mexican coffee, and the tortilla soup!! Or anything else because it's all amazing.
Visited the restaurant tonight and was pleasantly surprised. I had the Aztec soup (tortilla soup) and it was good. I had the steak and chicken tacos and it was yummy. Simple but delicious. I also bought the Mexican hot chocolate they had for sale on their display case and made a cup when I got home. Wow - comfort drink. I'll be enjoying it over the winter.
Excellent food. I had a burrito - very clean, fresh flavour.
Like the combination of food-drink and sweet location!. Been dropping in around once or twice weekly since it opened and we pretty much enjoy everything they are offering.
Veggie Tacos - 8/10. Proper balance of ingredients.
Coffee - 6.75/10. Not much of a finish to the drip coffee but it is pleasant overall. Served in handmade mugs.
Flan - 9/10.
Have to check out the Mexican hot chocolate sometime as it seems a favourite here.
Service is so polite and happy.
