Review Sakada Sushi Teriyaki - Pickering

Bogdan Bratu
Tried the ayce sushi, not a huge amount of variety but good enough options for the price. Food quality wasn't bad but I have to give it 1 star for the fact that I got food poisoning 6 hours later with flu like symptoms. Can't speak for the other items on the menu but I won't be having sushi from this place again.

Top notch service and a great variety of sushi options. The red dragon roll was my fave of the ones I've had. The beef and chicken teriyaki options are also great. Highly recommend. The AYCE dinner special was also 25 dollars which is one of the lowest I've seen.

An absolute gem of Pickering, the staff are so accommodating and welcoming, easy take out options and great prices. I'd recommend calling ahead during school hours with the local high school near by it can get busy. Chicken Teriyaki with extra chicken is the best dish on the menu. make it like a risotto!

I've been coming here for years!! This is a great sushi restaurant. It is family run and they have been so amazing to me and my family. They are honest and kind. The sushi is yummy and they are busy at lunch because of the neighboring high schools.

We can only say great things about this place! The owner was really nice and knowledgeable about the menu. Nice atmosphere. The only thing that got me was that they don’t have an avocado and sweet potato roll!😭 This was my first time here and we wanted to try some new options. The pickled radish, mango island, and and white maki roll were new to me but we loved all of them! Our favourite one out of them was the pickled radish roll. It has a sweet tangy taste that we love. When we were about to order from them I was looking on here for a menu and when I went inside I noticed they have changed their prices. So I attached some pictures of the menu below as well.

A good place to have a meal or their AYCE menu option. Everything is served well and not too delayed. They have a great policy of serving you additional stuff only once you finish your already ordered stuff to ensure patrons dont waste food. Gets pretty packed once lunch hour is approaching for school children to grab their lunches. A nice place to enjoy a good Japanese meal for less. Staff is good and very understanding.

The texture for teriyaki chicken was absolutely fantastic, but the teriyaki sauce wasa bit flat and lacked flavour, over all 4.5 stars for me

Did take out was very disappointing I paid 50 bucks and was not worth it salmon teriyaki was way over cooked and sushi was sour would not go back. One positive was the speed of the service, everything was ready within 15-20 mins but the quality seems to have suffered. Was not worth the $50

I get sushi from here very often. Regardless of eating takeout or dine in the quality of the food is always on point. The staff is so wonderful and friendly. Support local family owned business and support sakada sushi, you will not be disappointed. The freshness of the food is always so impressive even in the off seasons of certain vegetables. Price is super reasonable and portions are very large!

This place has great service. The sushi was fresh and delicious. Chicken teriyaki was great. Great value my family ate here at lunch for under $60. We will return!

Worst AYCE sushi ever.

I guess you get what you pay for. This place is one of the cheapest AYCE sushi places in Durham. And the quality of the food is reflected by the price.

Everything tastes like cardboard.

Although their beef teriyaki, a la carte is passable.

The staff is really friendly though. Sorry guys. :(

Sushi Lover. I am not sure what happened with the critical people who have given this place a bad review. Seems like they are bent on some kind of revenge! I have had nothing but good luck with the restaurant. The owners are very hard working, and always go out of their way to please us. English is not their first language, and so naturally there is some opportunity for misunderstanding But knowing this, I simply take my time to order carefully, and have not yet been disappointed. Don't be misled. It's a great place!

Sakada worst ever!. After my last review of Sakada something else has come to light! Will Sakada ever stop?!?!? Even after the fiasco of not delivering food as discussed on my previous review...
Sakada Sushi thought that it would be a good idea to still charge me for the food... EVEN THOUGH THEY NEVER PROVIDED ANY FOOD!
After not delivering food, they still charged for it...
Sakada, please do yourself a favour and never go there!

-----07 Jan, 2014-----

Horrible experience. I decided to order for Sakada Sushi this was a mistake I regret making.
I was misfortunate enough to give Sakada Sushi in Pickering a try, a mistake I will never make again!
After a long day for both my girlfriend and I at work, I decided to order from Sakada Sushi. Placed our order for delivery at 9:13pm.
Well over an hour later, we received a call from the delivery driver saying they cannot find the house. Living less than 4km away from them and clearly lit house # in a popular neighborhood, I was surprised at this, but we gave them specific directions at this point... Another 20mins go by, still no food has been delivered....
When I called the store again, someone, who I assume is the owner? Began to yell into the phone at me, stating it was my fault we had not received the food?!?! At this point, after waiting for such a long time, the food was probably spoiled (sushi/tempura) and the ranting of the owner. I told him to cancel the order...
Then it begins...
I received over 4 more harassing phone calls, answered one, the rest I ignored, but I was left rude harassing voice mails....
10 mins later, the driver shows up... refuses to accept the we no longer want the order...
At this point any normal restaurant owner, would admit defeat, realized the screwed up and maybe offer a discount or just write it off or get a new driver! Or offer to make it right the next time, or ?
Nope... the owner has called me 8 times since in an aggressive manner, I finally told him to stop calling. He then called again... At that point I had to have a 3rd party intervene to inform him to stop calling...

***This post has been edited to meet Urbanspoons terms of service... apparently the owners actions are too much for even Urbanspoon to post.***

There are MANY other good choices to make in Pickering for good sushi with good service.
DO NOT ORDER FROM SAKADA SUSHI!

Beware of "All You Can Eat" lunch. My wife and I went for the "All You Can Eat" lunch for $11.99 per person on July 3, 2013 around 1:20pm. The restaurant wasn't very busy. All You Can Eat is advertised from 11:00am-3:00pm.

The waitress seemed nice at first. Our food was hot and better than expected.

I asked for ice, extra lemon and had to ask her to replenish the ginger and wasabi, I mean no disrespect, this has been the case at the other Japanese Restaurants we've dined.

We finish our first serving and expected she would return, she didn't. This was about 40 minutes later. She checked on other tables, took walk-in/take-out orders. It seemed she purposely found other things to do not to return to our table.

I went to the washroom. As I passed by the front, I said to her, we would like to make our second order please. She came with the bill. I told her that we weren't ready for the bill, we wanted to make our second order. This was around 2:15pm.

She told us the hours for "Alll You Can Eat" has ended. I was of course surprised, then referred to the their All You Can Eat lunch menu and showed her the time that states 11:00am-3:00pm.

She went and talked to who I believe is the manager. We figured, this was an honest miscalculation of time on the waitress's part. He came over and said the same as the waitress and added that the waitress has been back and forth 20 times getting things for us. I relaxed, smiled and said, I think 20 times is an exaggeration, and said, she came to our table three times, which was when I asked for extra lemon during our initial order, I requested that our ginger and wasabi be replenished and ice because my water got warm due to her not returning to take our second order.

He told me that their prices are some of the lowest in Pickering. She has been back and forth, back and forth. I was unsure where he was going with that, but said, If you are referring to gratuity, I have no problem paying gratuity when I receive good service. I brought to his attention their lunch menu and the time, which was around 2:30pm, which contradicted his claim that the All You Can Eat had expired.

He then said, well pay what you want. I decided to entertain that and said, okay then, how about I pay $20. He said, if you pay $20, I'll called the police. I chuckled and thought, if my wife wasn't with me, I'd tell him, call the police. I told him, this is not about the money, it is the principle. You advertise the All You Can Eat lunch from 11:00am-3:00pm and you should honor that.

I paid him the $26, he brought back my change and repeated that the waitress was going back and forth, and their low prices. My wife said to them, we were sitting here waiting for the waitress to return but she didn't. I thought to myself, my wife and I have more class than this, I'm done. I said to my wife, honey, let's go, while he was still talking. I said to my wife, how's that for adventure. We had a good laugh afterwards.

That was the worst customer service I've ever seen. We will never return to this restaurant.

I hope my review is helpful.

God bless,

Mardy W. Dixon
