Review Pig Out Bbq - Pickering

Coming to this place for the first time, i had some expectations as to what i read on the media, it supposedly was good, but when i got my order, the food was poorly seasoned and overcooked i would say, as a person who is also in the food industry. Corn bread was dry and felt like it was sitting outside for hours. The fries were undercooked and the chicken was also poorly seasoned and cooked as well. I wont be promoting this business. Mind you, i had to wait almost 1 hour for my food 😒

We didn’t mind driving out to this location as the ones in Spadina has a very limited seating capacity and boy the drive was so worth it. We ordered the carnivore platter that could feed 3-4 people. The ribs were fall off bones and savoury, the wings are top notch and has very smoky flavour, pulled pork was deliciously sweet and tangy, my preference. However, I think they came short on the brisket as it has only 3 tiny slices and cut along the flesh instead of across. Also, I wish they would serve beers soon. These are the missing link to complete the 5-stars.

Super disappointed in todays experience. My dad and I fell in love with the food when this location first opened up. So we decided for fathers day to treat him to Pig Out. Our order was placed through Skip. We ordered 3 combo meals I almost left without my drinks and 2 sets of fries, I asked the staff if this was everything they said yes. I went to the car and realized no this wasnt everything. Went back in to discuss and "corrected" the order. After waiting an extra 10 minutes for 2 orders of fries, I come home to an improperly made burger missing 2 of the main ingredients which was dry and hard to eat as well as cold fries. My fathers burger was also dry, as well as my mothers brisket. The staff are pleasant to deal with for the most part. The skip app was blamed for the burger being made wrong as it wasnt described on the app on their end. But if this is one of the stores burgers I would be under the impression you know what the toppings are. Sorry to say we will not be returning to this location ever again. Below is the "Canadian Burger" supposed to have cheese curds and peameal bacon.. wish I could have enjoyed it.

After seeing the Pig Out BBQ on you Gotta Eat Here we decided we needed to check this place out. The staff were very friendly. We ordered a Jr. platter for $40.00. This included spicy chicken wings 🌶, ribs and beef brisket. Very delicious flavours. This platter also came with fries, onion rings and coleslaw. We were the only people in there and there were several people doing takeout. The food was not hot. Not sure why but as I said the flavour was really good. The ribs were tough as well which was disappointing. I did not complain because it wasn’t a bad experience it just could have been hotter. My issue with the Pig Out BBQ is that the staff knew this was our first time, we even asked them to pick what type of brisket to have - the problem was that we were charged $47.00 not $40.00 as posted. When we asked why they said the prices increased and they were waiting on a new menu board. They should have told us when we were ordering that there was a price increase. This was not good value and we won’t be returning. Reason for two star review - poor value, food was not hot and they didn’t advise us of $7.00 increase.

TLDR; Probably the worst bbq experience we've ever had. Long wait time, dry bbq meat, stinky restaurant. We were in the neighborhood and decided to finally try Pig Out. We ordered 3 things, brisket mac, 1 roast chicken leg, and the boneless rib sandwich special with a side of coleslaw. Mains: It was the driest rib pieces I'd ever had to bite through!! Legit choked on a bite because it was so dry going down, couldn't even finish the sandwich. The chicken and the brisket mac were ok, but nothing to write home about. Sides: The coleslaw was tangy, so if that's your thing, go for it, but I kind of like mine a bit sweeter. The fries were indeed cooked well and seasoned nicely, which was the only thing I liked about this meal, and why I'm giving the 2☆ instead of 1☆. Restaurant: It smelled like floor cleaner in there. Not very appetizing to be in there smelling that. Wait time: The wait was ridiculous for what we ordered, 40-45 mins, maybe thats why the ribs were burnt to a coal.

Ordered the Pig out platter. The food was good, the staff on site were communicating very well and were friendly. The fries were absolutely perfect and I'd go back just to order them again. I would not order the platter again if I was to return due to finding another place where I found the meal to be a lot more juicy however the pricing here is far better than the other place. I still recommend having the platter to sample the menu out to help get a feel for what you like though. I definetly would prefer sandwiches and wings here. I also failed to mention the wings are huge and were seasoned nicely.

This is my 1st time going there I just got 2 pulled pork sandwiches 1 smokey and 1 sweet the sweet one is actually a little spicy had to take a break while eating it and get some milk😅 still delicious mind you and worth the spice it's so flavourful! other then that I'll be back to try other items!

Ordered from Pig Out Bbq Pickering on Monday evening. Husband ordered the homemade burger and this is how it arrived. I should mentioned the outside of the bun was absolutely drenched in ketchup as well. Almost like they tried to cover it in ketchup to try and hide the burnt. Can’t believe a restaurant that’s been publicized so much would serve food at this quality. Very disappointed. Tried calling the restaurant with no answer. Have tagged the restaurant in multiple posts on their social media. No response.

Fantastic service, fantastic food! If we are ever in the area again, we'll definitely be back!!! We (family with two children, 6&8) had the Jr Pig-out platter and were not able to finish it all!!! Amazing sauces on the perfectly cooked meats!! Mac and Cheese is dynamite as well!! Definitely recommend to anyone around

This is my new favourite place. Most BBQ places are over hyped and/or overpriced. This place is neither. $39 for 3 combos and an order of corn bread is LEGIT. The place is clean, service is laid back but nice and polite and the food came out super fast. All of this being said the food is soooo good. I had the BBQ beef brisket melt with baked beans. It was spectacular. Most definitely visiting this place over and over again.

I dont know what happened to this place, used to be a regular patron until just a while ago, got a piglet platter soaking in water and oil and the wings tasted real bad, also it took much longer then usual to get the food. I also heard that theres new owners/employees and thats the reason. when you guys fix everything and figure it out, please and let me know, this was my favorite food :(

We just had delivery and it's absolutely amazing. Best fries I've ever had, the ribs are phenomenal, and the pulled pork was awesome too. The portion sizes are large and it's delicious - totally worth it. I'm already dreaming of my next order. One of our new favourite places!

I absolutely love this place. From the moment you walk in, the scent of wood smoke and barbecued meat is enticing. I've tried nearly everything on their menu, but always prefer the Pig Out Platter when getting take-out for the family. I can't recommend Pig Out BBQ highly enough. This is what barbecue should be!

Amazing food. Great service. Awesome staff. What more can be said......plenty....John and Linda put their everything into running this establishment. They always make you feel welcome and apart of the family. Their attention to the quality of food being served is amazing......smoked food at it's finest. We got introduced to this place because of YOU GOTTA EAT HERE....A Food Network Program. I would strongly recommend this quaint little establishment to anyone looking to try something different. Cheers to the owners and staff for quality smoked food, great prices, and providing a great sense of HOME......love, love, love it.

The food was fantastic, the staff were great and the restaurant area was clean! Highly recommend this place!

Food was amazing, service was just as good. Fast, friendly, and super tasty! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a BBQ fix!

The pig out platter is supposed to feed 4, but it could satisfy twice that number. Wonderful smoky flavour, cooked perfectly, and tender fall of the bone. If you can't head to the Southern US for BBQ, this place is a great choice.
Mary Silcox
Really nice staff, very tender and moist brisket, and wonderfully crunchy sweet potato fries. Excellent experience!
Deanna Lynn Baldwin
Friendly staff, great service, good food and very nice environment over all. Can't wait to go back to try other items on the menu.

Great Food I highly recommend you try this place out. You won't be disappointed.

Really good brisket! Even their coleslaw is mouthwatering. You gotta eat here!

Absolutely, completely impressed by everything at Pig Out BBQ in Pickering! The food is incredible, meat is super tender and delicious! The staff are very friendly and are always smiling. Took my hubby here today for his b-day and both of us were beyond impressed! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! We will definitely be returning!

We were in Toronto on a family vacation last summer and we stopped by as we seen them on the show you gotta eat here well folks it's true you do gotta eat there food was amazing best bbq I've ever had the slaw and baked Mac n cheese was epic the meat even better just wish they had one open here in Ottawa we really need one here for sure...
Sarah A L McCrady
I heard about this place from "You gotta eat here" so I had high expectations. I worked at a BBQ restaurant in Alberta and was really excited to eat brisket again. The brisket here was pretty good and the Mac and cheese was great! However the staff mostly acted like they hated their jobs and I did not feel welcome at all. One employee leaned on the counter the whole time and basically glared at all the customers. It's a shame because I'd likely go back for more brisket, but I don't go where I'm not wanted.

The best overall for something different.! From all big burgers and fingers food

Food was ok, smallest portion of meat ever, brisket was small enough to fit in the palm of my hand, ridiculous for the price... No personality in the service and I had to wait for the cook to come back from wherever he was apparently the night kids cant put meat in a container... Never recommend or go back... Spend ur money elsewhere...

When I went here I had the beef brisket and fries. The fries were okay, but the sandwich made up for it immensely. It was so good and definitely would recommend. Staff was friendly and efficient during a busy night.

When i went in, there was no one else in the store and there were 4 employees working. They went all quiet and starred at me till i said "i'm ready to order". Most restaurants i go to i'm greeted with a "hello, may i take your order". This made me feel unwelcome and as if i was interrupting they're "down time". I could barely hear a word the cashier was saying, he didn't make any eye contact, and appeared overall like he didn't care to be at work. I asked for bbq sauce on my ribs and was instead given sweet sauce. I only ate half the rack as i didn't enjoy the flavor. My friend ordered the pull pork. Only about a quarter of the pulled pork had bbq sauce on it, leaving the rest very dry and unappetizing. We had to apply much more bbq sauce on our leftovers when we arrived home. Was not impressed and I would recommend sticking to home barbecue.

I had dinner here on Saturday night, mainly on the strength of fellow Zomato users' reviews.
It's a moderate scale smokehouse restaurant, a la some of the places I've seen in the prairies. The atmosphere is easy going and its small and loud - tons of walk in and take out business during the dinner hour.
The food was extremely good - brisket ribs and wings and some top notch sides, for a reasonable price (about $50 including drinks and tip, quite fair for the amount and quality of the food).
The overall experience was good but a couple of things to improve that would have made it even better - first, they need to provide some direction at the front door. A 'line starts here' sign or a 'seat yourself' if no one is going to direct the action. There was a fair bit of confusion and some hard feelings from what I saw because people felt like there were line jumpers or having trouble grabbing a table. The cash area was overwhelmed because of the walk ins and call ins while we were there.
Second, and this may be by choice, but I'd love to see them get licensed. While the chocolate shake I had was good, what I really wanted was a beer to go with my quality BBQ. Third, put some wet naps on the tables; the sauce is excellent but very sticky.
Overall I quite enjoyed the visit and do plan to return ... Soon!

Yes. That's all I need to say but I have to keep writing apparently. This is awesome bbq. I had the pulled pork and beans and it was delicious. Portion could have been a bit bigger but the flavour is spot on. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Friendly service and great sauces (Memphis sweet and smoky BBQ!!). I had pulled pork, ribs and chicken wings to share - all of which were cooked perfectly. The sides were hit and miss. Great corn bread, rings and pickles but so-so Mac and cheese and coleslaw.

Damn Pickering, I had no idea you had barbecue this good!

Pig Out BBQ is probably more famously known for being on that one episode of "You Gotta Eat Here", and a good amount of times, I found such places to be a bit overrated, but this place really lived up to the hype. The restaurant is rather nice inside and everything was clean as well. Menu has all the bbq fixin's and some extras like tacos and wings.

The Jr Pig Out Platter was the ideal meal for 2 or 3 people as it comes with a 1lb of smoked wings, 1lb of ribs, beef brisket, with your choice of 2 sides, coleslaw, and pickles. The smoked wings were so damn good. The meat really came off the bone. Not crisp, but still sweet and they have a variety of sauces to choose from as well. The brisket was a bit fatty but flavorful. The meat was real tender and juicy. The ribs were done very well. Mac and cheese is a must have for a side as their mac and cheese was gooey and creamy and was almost damn near the best part of the meal.

Service was friendly and they have this spicy sauce at every table that was actually pretty damn spicy! The sauce was so good that I had it all over the wings and really added a nice kick. Prices are not bad and the place is definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. Especially because there didn't seem to be much around the area anyways.

Where do you go when you want to pig out on some good barbecue? Well, a great place would be the aptly named Pig Out BBQ in Pickering. If that’s too far east of Toronto for you, there is also one on Spadina Avenue near the University of Toronto that picked up on the success of this first location.

Not good. One of the reviews below nailed it. We also got the Jr. Pig out platter and the ribs tasted like some kind of cleaning solution was on them. The brisket was mush and the ribs we're just ok. Now for the service. We were not greeted when we came in and did not know if we seat ourselves or what. Eventually we choose somewhere to sit and when we were not approached by anyone I got up to ask. We were then told to order at the front. No smiles or anything from anyone. When we asked what a brisket was both the waitress and cook just looked at us and she then actually shrugged. Finally the cook pulled out a brisket to show us. We asked what flavours they had for wings and the waitress pointed to a menu and said "its listed here". I have worked as a manager in retail for 15 years and know what to expect when out dining and this was just bad. I definitely will not be back and if they want to stay a float they need to fix their customer service and their food.

Delicious!. Came on Sunday and got a $5.50 pull pork and fries combo

It took a bit of time to cook but it was well worth the wait!

Absolutely delicious

Great location, consistent quality.
I've been here quite a few times and have tried the many different items. It's clean and decorated nicely. The sauces are flavourful, the fries are crunchy and the mac & cheese is creamy. the chicken was a little dry but would be nice with sauce.

Ive had better...waaaay better. After craving pulled pork for a while and trying the new Wendys pulled pork burger, my friends suggested i try 'the BEST pulled pork sandwich ever!' at Pig Out. So on my way through Pickering i stopped and got some take out (i live in east Durham). Traditional pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato friesa with garlic aioli. The fries were soggy, the aioli was delicious but the actual sandwich tastes like i had just eatten fireplace soot! It was soooo smokey i couldnt taste the meat. I had to force it down so i didnt feel like i wasted my $11 on the meal, but i will be ordering at Wendys drive thru while they have their pulled pork sandwich from now on...

Southern food without southern hospitality. The staff, on both of my visits, seem unhappy, arrogant, and indifferent. I've been to many bbq joints in the south where everyone is all smiles and friendly. While the food is ok, the atmosphere is not the most inviting. Will not return.

Not great. We ordered the pig out jr platter which comes with 1lb of ribs, brisket and chicken wings. They were out of wings so we got pulled pork instead. The ribs were dry and tasted like pine cleaner, the brisket was all fat and there was barely any sauce on the meat. We got the food to go so maybe that is why we were given bad quality left over items. We won't go back.

BBQ. Great bbq and value. staff are very nice and extremely accommodating. definitely recommend for a well priced casual dinner that will fill you up.

Best BBQ. I went to Pig Out for the first time on April 28th after seeing it featured on the show "You gotta eat here" Upon entering the restaurant you can smell the smoked meat which instantly makes you drool. The interior was cute, they have a big pig collection, and rustic decor giving that southern backwoods BBQ feel. The place was extremely clean and cozy and I felt very comfortable sitting down to a meal. I tried the beef brisket with potato salad and my hubby tried the pulled pork with mac n cheese and cornbread. The brisket was incredibly smoky and tender, and the spicy BBQ added a perfect pairing to the beef, the potato salad was homemade with eggs and all the fixins' and was one of the best I've ever had. I also snuck a couple bites of my hubby's pulled pork and couldn't believe how flavourful and juicy it was, he had the sweet sauce and although I prefer spice in my meals, you could taste that authentic BBQ flavour. Mac and cheese was really good, and the cornbread was hands down the best I have ever eaten. Definitely our new favourite and will be stopping in every time we are in town!!

Excellent!!!!. Had the pig platter for 4.. ribs pork wings brisket pork .. side dishes

everything was fresh and delicious.. best brisket i have found north of the border for sure.. ribs had just a little bit of chew to them (the way they should be) baked beans were amazing.. lots of love goes into this food and it shows!

having grown up in the south my curiosity peaked and i began talking with the guy at the front and he was more than glad to show me the smoker and explain to me how they came up with the concept..

1 warning be careful with that spicy bbq sauce its HOT

excellent dining experience will definitely return

Best BBQ pulled pork sandwich EVER!!!! Delicious tasty and tender :-) perfect meat and sauce soooo delicious. The coleslaw was good but the fries and Mac and cheese were mediocre... Really cute interior! Good service! Clean! Overall good experience and very good portions with fair prices!!!

The ribs are amazing! Everyone must try this place, you won't be disappointed.

Very good brisket! Got the pig out to try a little of everything and was very impressed

Tasty good food, good value, pleasant service. I have been here several times now, trying different menu items. My favourites are ribs, pulled pork and the brisket. The ribs are done perfectly - you have to work a bit to get the meat off the bone (meat falling off the bone gets a chef disqualified at those ribfest contests). All of the meats are nicely smoked and stand on their own. They're not slathered in sauce, which you can get (sweet or hot) more of on the side, if you'd like. Pickles are tasty Strub's dills. The cole slaw is owner Linda's home recipe - fresh, crunchy, tart and sweet, lightly creamy. The fries, now fresh cut in restaurant (they weren't early on), are good. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the size of the servings. Be prepared to be either full when you're done or take home leftovers. Staff are very friendly and attentive. If there is the least little thing wrong with your meal, they want to know about it and will fix it right away (but I've never needed that service). Not only is this a good restaurant, but it is a well-run business (my review).
Jerry
Food is great at fair price. Staff ate friendly and the place is clean
Bug
Amazing BBQ pit in the East end. Ribs were meaty and flavourful, brisket was tender and the place was clean. There's plenty of food on the dinner platters. The only gripe I have, is that if you ask for the corn bread as a side, you're only given one small loaf. Tastes great, but not enough, and $2 is steep for an extra one.

Pig out BBQ is becoming a regular Sunday uhhhhhhhhh Pig out......Good Shtuff man!!! That's right........Shtuff..
Melissa Panday
Hearty food with fast and friendly service. I tried their signature pulled pork sandwich and although it was quite messy, the sauce was delicious and I could really taste the smoked meat. Will definitely be back for more.

Better each time I go. Great staff, great local place. Hot sauce could use some heat though...

Good Bar-B-QUE. After hearing this place from a few buds ,i just want to give it a try and you know what it was very good bbq very tasty and i loves the ribs. The taste actually brought me back when i was a kid in Texas.

Pity. Don't waste ur time.nothing special.

Well I've heard alot about pig out so I went to try it out. It was very tasty but I would change a couple things 1. You need a bun with more support those hamburger style buns just don't cut it. 2. You need a sauce selection not just hot or sweet. Other than that portion sizes are great and the staff is very friendly. I will be back :)

Real BBQ. Not that swiss chalet boiled ribs covered in sauce Brisket juicey pulled pork tacos awesome

Really good food, atmosphere, service and price. Have ordered many of the items on the menu and found them all to be delicious.

My favourites in order of taste are:
Mains:
1. BBQ chicken
2. Gourmet burger
3. Beef brisket
4. Pulled pork
5. Ribs

Sides:

1. Onion rings
2. Fries
3. Baked Beans
4. Both the sweet and spicy BBQ sauces

This type of food is long overdue in the Pickering area. Enjoy, you'll be back.

Pig Out!!!. Lovin the Pig Out BBQ! The food was so tasty! Not sure who this Tabitha is but I totally disagree with her. Go pig out....you'll love it!

Went to Pig Out on Sunday and had to take family on Monday! What a great change instead of burgers and fries. Two sauces are delicious! Nice smoke flavor and lots of food for the price!!

Pulled Pork Sandwich. My fiancee and I checked out Pig out BBQ we both had the pulled pork sandwich. The flavour and sauce was delicious, fries could use more salt.
Open to 3am Fri and Sat is just what Pickering needs.

No pigging out here. I went to Pig Out BBQ in Pickering last week to get some take out for dinner.
I waited in line far too long while the cashier finished a conversation with her friend.
I ordered a little bit of everything, pulled pork, ribs, brisket and chicken wings. Fries, mac & cheese, coleslaw and their sauces.
The ribs are dry and flavorless. There is no "bbq" flavour to these at all. We threw them out.
The Brisket is good, but only if you get the fatty part at the end. If you get the sliced part it is so dry its like chewing dry wheat. The chicken wings were so over fried that we could not even bite through the skin! They were burnt and not good.
The pulled pork was ok. It was moist with sauce and had an ok flavour but I dont think I would eat it without sauce.
The sauces taste like commercial sauces with sugar added in one and spice added in the other. Nothing special or unique about it.
The fries were decent. Needed more salt. The worst part other then the meat was the Mac & cheese. It was soggy wet noodles quickly heated with shredded cheese. It a was lumpy, grainy, mess. It was sad to say that we threw out over 40 dollars worth of food because most of it was just not good. And NOT BBQ quality.
The Coleslaw...STAY AWAY it pre packaged with commercial watered down dressing.

Sorry Pig Out BBQ... I think you need more practice in the BBQ pit.
Amanda
The decor is pretty casual. Seat yourself, and your meal is brought to your table. The menu is pretty typical for a BBQ joint. Pulled pork, smoked brisket, ribs and pulled chicken are all on order here. They also have some unusual items, like handmade burgers, smoked sausage and BBQ tacos.

Everything on the platter had a delicious smoky flavour that our server said they smoke all of their meat in-house. All of the meat was so tender, you barely had to chew. This was not a bad thing because by the end, you were so full, chewing was a chore. The ribs were fantastic; tangy and smoky. The brisket could only be moved to your plate with a spoon. It was so tender, it literally melted in your mouth. The pulled pork came in a pile topped with sauteed onions(OMFG) and BBQ sauce. This was probably my favourite meat on the platter. The chicken wings were good, but I'd never had smoked wings before. It was ok. The summer sausage was also fantastically smoked. I stuck with the pork....there may have been some growling, but I did share....

The platter came with coleslaw,

Put on those stretchy pants, you're going to need them. Pig Out BBQ does not hold back. Four of us went there for my Mom's birthday. We seated ourselves and began scouring the menu for meals. The décor was simple and tasteful. We were told to go hungry, very very hungry.

Upon reading the meaty menu, we decided to share the Pig Out Platter; it said it serves 4. 4 what I don't know, because there was no way we were finishing it. This platter had almost every type of meat they serve! It arrived on 2 large platters; we ended up moving to a table that seats 6 to fit all the food.

Everything on the platter had a delicious smoky flavour that our server said they smoke all of their meat in-house. All of the meat was so tender, you barely had to chew. This was not a bad thing because by the end, you were so full, chewing was a chore. The ribs were fantastic; tangy and smoky. I stuck with the pork....there may have been some growling, but I did share....

The platter came with coleslaw, pickles and 3 sides which turned into 4. We ordered baked beans, sweet potato fries and poutine, but they forgot the poutine and brought fries, so they brought a poutine as well. SO MUCH FOOD. The stars of the many sides were the sweet potato fries and the baked beans. The baked beans were sweet and cooked perfectly. These were the best sweet potato fries I'd ever eaten. We had to wrestle them from my boyfriend. Needless to say, neither of them ended up in the doggy bag.

This BBQ joint has an easy going atmosphere with great service and melt in your mouth food to match!

If you're out in Pickering, stop into Pig Out BBQ. You will be back for more!
