Review Jack's Restaurant - Peterborough

Found the place just by looking online for options in Peterborough. The all you can eat special on Tuesdays intrigued us. My son asked that we out a 5 star review. He can be picky and was raving about the mashed potatoes and he also tried a bit of the fish and chips. I believe everything is made fresh and from scratch. Everything came piping hot. Wish we could have utilized the nice patio, but it just finished raining when we got there. Service can be slow at times, but we were also trying to make a movie. Will come back as the family wishes.

Friendly service. Warm and pleasant environment. Definitely a great place to get your fish & chips. Had the haddock fish & chips and hot hamburger, coleslaw, seafood chowder soup. Fish & chips was well portioned, hot, crisp, light, fluffy. Fries and coleslaw was nice too. Hot hamburger comes on a garlic bread with beef patties, onion, mushroom, topped with gravy. The patties a bit dry, gravy was quite good and will be great if on a poutine. Better to order a normal hamburger instead. The chowder soup was passable, give it a miss.

Disappointed in myself that I haven't been to this place sooner, great staff, awesome food and can't beat the price! Highly recommend, plus being right across from the lake another bonus... Updated review, have been to this place twice since my first review because of how much I enjoyed my first visit. My second visit last week we dined in on the patio, it was busy waited a few minutes to be seated. We waited almost a half hour for a waiter even acknowledged us, I gave them the benefit of doubt because it was busy. Until I took my fiance here for breakfast talking how amazing this place is, we dine in for breakfast inside this time. Order taken, coffees poured so far it's an enjoyable breakfast, until I notice the family of 5 and another couple both have gotten their food and enjoying it. Thinking that we're next up, around the 45 minute mark I asked our waiter if our food will be ready soon only for her to come back and tell us our food will be a few more minutes because she "forgot" to ring our in and she'll be comping our coffees.. So being a little annoyed and hungry we waited, another 15 minutes passes my boyfriends plate came out, mine followed another 10 minutes after, he had finished by the time I got my plate. So over a hour we waited for our food, I'm sorry but completely unacceptable and from my last two experiences regardless of how good the food is, I won't be back nor will be recommending this place. First impressions mean nothing.

Was impressed with how all our fish entrees were perfectly cooked and hot when they arrived to our table. Very pleased with the wild salmon Ceasar salad and fish sticks. Great patio space and friendly service too.

Friendly service. Decent food, somewhat small menu, but it's pretty clear it's primiarly a fish and chips kinda place. Prices were reasonable, but service was a little slow at the lunch rush. Inside had a classic 80's feel. Everything seemed clean.

Took my Dad there for dinner 20 minutes before closing. They were nice enough to seat us, where we had their famous fish and chips. The food, service and price were all excellent. I highly recommend Jack's Family Restaurant for their Fish and Chips. 👍👍

Great service, but fish is pretty average. Chips were kinda soggy and would have used a double fry for better crispiness.

We have been here every time we visit. Peterborough. It’s always a good time. The menu is diverse and the drinks are cold. There’s a good view of the lake and boats. Staff always inviting and nice!

Took my daughter and mom here for lunch. The price is reasonable and the food is delicious. You must try their onion rings by far the best I have ever had!

Awesome fish. Great service. Haven't seen the likes since The Hurricane restaurant in St Pete's, FL. Deep fried grouper would be the bomb!

Going back there in 2 weeks, loved their Cajun fried trout...yummy!! My husband noticed how much I loved the trout, (didn't want to share..lol) he's having it next time we go there...same here..yahoo...thank you for the wonderful staff & personalities, Katarina, our server, she was awesome!

Maybe we should have had the fish. <br/><br/>We were in Peterborough at dinner time, and we found Jack's Family Restaurant on the Zomato app. It had the exact same name as a place that we had tried and liked in Waterloo a few years ago, so we thought it might be part of a small chain. Turns out that the Peterborough location is part of a small chain, but not at all connected to the one-off in Waterloo. <br/><br/>Although this location has chicken and ribs and other things on the menu, the main focus seems to be their Fish and Chips, served in a variety of ways. The majority of the dishes coming out of the kitchen appeared to be battered and deep fried. <br/><br/>SWMBO's sister ordered the Pulled Pork Poutine. The potatoes and cheese were okay, but the dark brown gravy was too thick. <br/><br/>SWMBO opted for the 1/4 Chicken Dinner with white meat. While the rotisserie chicken meat was okay, the skin was not crispy enough, and she missed not having the sauce that the large rotisserie chicken chain offers. <br/><br/>I chose the Large Greek Salad, and added Garlic Shrimp (on the side). The dressing came on the side, and I probably should not have added the whole thing; a bit too much vinegar for my liking. There were 4 shrimp in a small casserole dish, sitting in a bath of garlic butter. They were nicely cooked, and the highlight of my meal. <br/><br/>Service was pleasant and reasonably fast.

All you can eat fish and chips! really good fish too! Call to confirm the day, can't fully remember. They also have a great breakfast here for a good value, personally my favourite breakfast place in town.

It used to be a good place. We used to go with my Mother everytime we visited as the food & service was great. Last month I was served under cooked blueberry pancakes with the raw batter still oozing out of one of them. The only gave me half off. I assume this was just a bad day. Today my wife and I took my Mother and a friend of hers there before we caught the bus back. We waited fo a rediculous 45 minutes before having no choice but to cancel two of our orders so mw wife and I could catch a GO bus. I left my Mom & friend to hopefully receive a nice breakfast. They had to wait an additional 15 minutes! To have patron wait over an hour for bacon, eggs & toast is unacceptable. After two consecutive bad experiences, I cannot recomend Jack's Family Restaurant and will never be going there again. Clean up your act guys.

Excellent Fish and Chips !. The fresh fish that is battered and fried to order is light, crisp, and delicious. Shrimps grilled or fried are excellent too. I particular like their greek salad with house made dressing along with shrimps, grilled chicken, souvlaki (chicken or pork are tender and tasty), or ask for a piece of their delicious fried fish. Very very good.
