Review The Imperial Tandoor - Peterborough

Patrick Colarossi
My girlfriend and I were in the Peterborough area for the day and wanted to get some dinner before leaving town. We decided to check out The Imperial Tandoor because we had been curious to try for a long time now. We were quickly greeted and seated on the patio which we had asked for. The dinner experience at The Imperial Tandoor was great. Our server was attentive and was able to answer the questions that we had with the menu. They promptly brought us glass bottles of cold water which we enjoyed. We began our dinner by ordering the samosas appetizer. The presentation of the samosas was very nice. They were piping hot and came with two sauces that both had great flavour. The samosas themselves tasted amazing. The seasoning was on point. The pastry itself was nice and thin. I would highly recommend the samosas. For our main course we ordered the Chana Masala and Chicken Biryani with a couple butter naan on the side. The serving dishes and presentation of the entrees were top notch. Very visually appealing. But of course it's about the taste. How did these entrees fair? Well the Chicken Biryani was delicious. There were several chunks of nice and tender white meat. Very flavorful. The rice was cooked just right. It was very good. The Chana Masala was also a homerun. Such great flavours and had a good level of heat (which we had asked for). The chick peas were very delicious. The butter naan was also great. Nice and thin naan that was clearly freshly baked. I would recommend all these dishes. It was a great dinner experience. Great food with a fantastic presentation. Great service. Very friendly and attentive. My girlfriend and I left quite full and were able to take home our leftovers. Very nice.

My favorite!! Imperial Tandoor honestly  the best in Peterborough.  My favorite cuisine and Restaurant in the city A MUST when visiting. The Naan just out of the  Owen , hot,soft... and on point, it can just be eaten by itself.  My order was delivered on time and  as specified (mild) as per I am still getting just to the indian spices. :p Lots of variety  for my vegetarian friend and enough quantity  for everyone.  We all got super full! We ordered Cheesy garlic Naan (a must try) ,Paneer Lababdar and  Murgh Malai Tikka (Chiken) and Butter Chiken and  to complement  a delicious  Rasmalai (yummy yummy) 😍😍😍❤ Looking  forward  to explore more on the menu!! Gracias !

Great experience. Delicious warm food, made with care and considering spice level. We ordered tandoori chicken momos, garlic naan, roti, bindi onion sabji, mirch chicken, mango lassi, shirleys temple. Enjoyed everything. Nice ambience. Friendly, professional service. Highly recommend.

After a visit to the zoo in Peterborough, we wanted to check out a local restaurant, but we were first hesitant about this Indian Gem because most Indian places outside of the GTA seem to hide their spices in their food and keep their food bland. The Imperial was totally the opposite. I was impressed with their spices that take your palate on a joy ride to India with all its flavours in their food . The male waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and was willing to get you even things that you may have liked that were off the menu. I would not hesitate to stop again. Service, portion size, and atmosphere were all good.

I would have given it 3.5 but since there is no option I Would give it 4.Since the options are few in Peterborough and this restaurant being very closer to 7 and 115 highway ,it can act as a good option for people travelling to stop over for Indian food. The decor is nice and service was good.Coming to food it was not bad but it was very oily and they can really improve on it.Its on the pricy end and it will make it worth if food is equally good like the beautiful ambience.Overall with limited options this place is worth a visit

Heard a lot about it so tried with my brother in law and family. Was rather disappointed 😞. Service mediocre, margarita served in a martini glass 🍸. Price wasn't less. Food very sweet. Generally, in Indian restaurants server would always ask about the level of spice in the food. That was not asked. Indian food is served with slices of onion and a few pieces of lime. When asked, a sliver of it was served and charged $4.00 . That is totally unacceptable. Would not visit again 😕

This place is great! Very clean with a great menu and friendly staff. I tried the tandoor taste menu and it was delicious, tried the lamb vindaloo and bengal fish curry for mains. Vindaloo was great but won’t recommend the Bengal fish curry- it very flavourful. Best Indian place in Peterborough.

Had a fantastic meal this evening. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Butter Chicken with the saffron rice and garlic naan bread. The food was of excellent quality and delicious. For those who don't appreciate your dish being spicy you can ask to have it toned down and the staff is happy to accommodate. The price was very reasonable for the servings. You definitely get more than enough food. Everything is a la carte on the menu and the staff was very helpful with suggestions. The atmosphere and decor is very appealing and comfortable. We will definitely be dining here again.

Went here for my 5 year anniversary and it was honestly beyond amazing. Savory and delightful food and a great server. We have been trying to find a good and authentic indian restaurant in Peterborough for a while and this place won't disappoint. Our server pointed out that everything is made to order and that they will accommodate dietary restrictions. It's a welcoming and welcomed restaurant in this city. Thank you for making this such a great experience for us :)

Fantastic - was just there for dinner - waiter was awesome ,friendly and knowledgeable about the food ( sorry did not catch his name). The atmosphere and decor very nice - The owner / host greeted us at our table - they really made sure you enjoyed your meal and we did, we have a list of dishes we have to try next time . We eat in a lot of Indian restaurants and this meal was spot on - they say fine dining but are not pretentious. A must go

I'm very conflicted with my review. On one hand the food was very good. Extremely good quality and flavorful. Online ordering and pick up was easy. The issue we had was portion size of the curries. At $16.95 and $17.95 we were very disappointed that there was a mere 6-7 small pieces of chicken and lamb in what we ordered and the entire rest of the black take out was sauce. By no means am I expecting a huge portion to have left overs the next day, but at these prices it was definitely not in the range of what we expected. With this we found The Imperial Tandoor very expensive for what was served.

We had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant a couple of weeks after their opening so some of the following criticisms may have already been taken care of. We visited them on a Friday night - I'd already phoned to make a reservation and been told that this was a not possible on Friday or Saturday evenings. No problem, it's common practice in many restaurants. My wife and I decided to chance it anyway and were asked by the receptionist to wait in their (somewhat small) waiting area in the toilet corridor. A couple of minutes after we arrived a (slightly) older couple came and presumably were told the same thing. However, they were seated first. Guys, if you're going to have a waiting area, then work off your list and seat people in the order they arrive, please. Seating was comfortable, music pleasant and the decor is very nice. The only problem in the location we were sat (by the triangular 'garden' area) was the Arctic wind issuing from the AC vent above our table. Maybe it's linked into the kitchen thermostat to make the chef comfortable, but unless they want guests to suffer from hypothermia, they may want to crank it up a few degrees. Waiter, pleasant, albeit a bit too chatty and a bit slow to realize people are trying to catch his eye. A good wait staff have eyes in the back of their heads and are aware of what's going on in their section. Even a nod acknowledging an obviously edgy customer goes a long way. Complimentary papadums with chutney and tamarind sauce were delivered while we awaited the main meal. Nice touch. Next, hot plates were brought to the table, and they were really hot which is good. Not so good was the fact that the food did not arrive for another ten minutes or so, during which time the plates had been chilled by the aforementioned Arctic breeze. Replacement plates were brought when the food arrived but had to be requested. Again, an awareness of the time between plate delivery and food should be more apparent, perhaps. The food? Excellent flavours and quality! We had a shared starter and two main courses, all of which were some of the best flavour mix we've ever enjoyed. Lesser mixup was we ordered Pulao rice, which didn't arrive with the main course. We had to catch waiter's eye - again, it took a few minutes, told him about the rice. He went to correct this and returned a few minutes later with plain boiled rice. However, as the main courses were starting to chill - see earlier AC woes - we went with it. I personally would have liked a slightly larger portion - but I'm a greedy beggar, so don't take any notice of that. Most normal appetites would have been well satisfied. Overall, with the few hiccups above, I'd give them 7/10 based on this visit. With minor corrections, mainly with waiter training, I would expect them to achieve a 9/10 in future.

Very happy with the service , the newly renovated atmosphere and mostly the food and wine selection. They offer an extensive selection of cocktails & wines varying by region and grape varietal, and the menu has so many different options and plates depending on what you're looking for. The flavour in all of the dishes I tried was spectacular! Keep it up !!! Excited to try this restaurant again with more friends and family !

Atmosphere is very nice, initial acknowledgement excellent, food very very good. Where there is a disconnect: Took 30 minutes for person to take our order. From arrival to getting our food: 1 hour I believe many clients arrived at same time and maybe it was not planned for in terms of staffing. But no doubt they were aware and will take steps to rectify this hick up Try it... worth it

My wife and I just had lunch there - my wife had lamb roganjosh, and I had the chicken tikka masala. We had garlic nan and mango lassi to go with the meal, and ras malai for desert. Everything was delicious! The waiter/manager was attentive, but not overly so, and the decor and ambiance are excellent. We cannot wait to sample more dishes from the extensive menu.
