Review Saigon On Main - Penticton

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY, dinner for 4 on Father’s Day was disgusting. 69$ no chicken in the chicken chow mein, no pork in the pork fried rice, all noodles no cabbage. Sweet n sour pork was thick n goopy no pineapple. Never again do not waste your money!!!

The waitress was very pleasent and polite. Service was fast and we felt like they wanted us here :). Huge portions, enough for dinner the next day. It was very very good as well, was pleasantly surprised! We had the Saigon lemon chicken, veggie chow mein and the sizzling chicken. Great experience :)

Delicious fresh vegetable rolls and the Pho Ga had good flavour, the owner was very courteous and polite.

Ordered take out. Chinese food combo for 3 and substituted the beef chop suey for ginger beef - a $5 up charge - which I didn’t mind as we love ginger beef. Bring the take out home and it was cold. Not hot, not warm, barely like warm - cold! A bunch of noodles in the chow mein were hard and crunchy, but were cooked at some point so not raw. The pork fried rice was bland and the peas looked to have been reheated a time or two…they were so shrivelled and discoloured - definitely not a fresh dish. The sweet and sour pork was actually fridge cold in some of the bites we took and the egg rolls were over cooked/way over fried. The ginger beef that we were charged an extra $5 for was AWFUL. The worst ginger beef we have ever had!!! It was very soggy, chewy, luke warm and didn’t look appetizing at all. We have ordered from Saigon a few times before and found the food to be alright/decent. This was far from alright. This was disgusting. Will not be ordering from there again.

Our favorite Chinese + Vietnamese place in Penticton! They're always so polite and helpful, plus it's the only Chinese place in town where we haven't got food poisoning.

Take out order. Probably the best tasting Chinese food I've had in Penticton in years (the bar isn't very high).

The noodles were over cooked in my soup, the beef was dry one of my salad roll was sliced down the middle which made it pretty much impossible to eat. As well as no cutlery chopsticks or napkins. That's a first and last

Garbage. This must be the worse restaurant in town. The stir-fry dishes were overcooked mushy and tasteless, everything else we ordered was coated in heavy greasy batter. The service was lousy despite an empty restaurant with one other table. Our server was some kid in t shirt and shorts who was clueless while the other one was more interested in her cell phone than her customers.

We ended up at A&W because of all the food we couldn’t and didn’t eat. Lesson learned, buyers beware.

Tried out this place and was expecting more variety in the Vietnamese dishes, however, there are mostly Chinese dishes. The restaurant is quite large and has a nice clean decor. There was only one server, but it wasn't busy, so service was good. He was attentive and food came out pretty fast.

We tried the pho bo (beef noodle soup) and the wonton soup. The broth is a different flavour than what I am used to back in Vancouver. But it was pretty good. There was plenty of noodles and beef. The wonton soup was OK. The wontons weren't bad, but they could be better. I would probably go back for the pho. This time we got tea, but we didn't know we would be charged $3 for it. Next time, we'll probably just stick to water. The tea was just jasmine tea in a tea bag.

The "Vietnamese" label is misleading here. Mostly NA style Chinese food. Constant takeout orders make service a little slow, however, had Pho Bo ( beef noodle soup) and it was fantastic. Some great stuff on the menu but overall not a "Vietnamese" experience

Wow! Got my order wrong and I ended up with 4 boxes of rice! Previous experiences have been dubious, to say the least (cold atmosphere, icy cold service and watery food consisting of a few veggies chopped up in water), but selling me rice under the guise of chicken, beef and prawn is quite the stunning coup! Well done for the con-trick, and putting the phone down on me 5 times is even better! It certainly adds more salt to the wound than any of your food will, I suspect. I think I'll now go and make some scrambled eggs. I'm kinda hungry, and not in the mood for rice.

This was Vietnamese food?. Shared their dinner for four with several friends. What we were served was ordinary North Americanized Chinese standard fare. Nothing Vietnamese about it! Really blah. We could have done better in the mall's food fair.

Terrible place to eat, Not real Vietnamese style at all. Very disappointed.
We wanted to order one dish that we saw from the picture on the menu. But the waitress told us that it was just a picture, not such a dish on the menu.
I think they are more like Chinese than Vietnamese food.
We ordered Chicken Gai Ding and Lemon glass Chicken with stir fried vegetable on steam rice. They tasted very plain.

Margaret. Probably the worst meal we have had in a restaurant in Penticton so far.

A delicious welcome to Penticton. Visiting from Vancouver and the meals were incredible. My wife and I are vegan and had an incredible Tofu Tumeric and Veggie stir fry. Great service, very hot plates and fast! Tasty and top notch!

Happy Diner. Dec 19, 2013 We attended a group dinner at Saigon Restaurant and really enjoyed it. Nice people, good service, tasty food, lots of options including vegetarian, and very reasonable. We will be back soon.

Forget about it.. A complete disaster. ordered vietnamese coffee and it was a total fail . seems like the bartender added way too much water in the coffee. My buddy ordered a beef pho and it was bland and noodles were under, and the soup temperature was lukewarm. He said this was the worst Pho he has ever had in his life and he's vietnamese ! My brother and I ordered a combo thinking it was a sure win but wow it was even worse than the PHO !!! the only thing that was decent was the spring roll. the chow mein and the fried rice tasted like it was previously cooked, and then flashed in the microwave with a lid on it , and it wasn't even close to being tasty !!the noodles were soggy in the chow mein , and the sweet sour pork i was nothing special. I told the server that this isn't very good and I felt the food was previously cooked and just microwaved , and she denied except she said well the sweet sour pork was made earlier, but everything else is fresh ! What a liar. At the end she said she didn't charge me for my drink , but really, we didn't even eat 10 percent of any of the food. I wouldn't feed my dog this crap.

Wasnt very good at all. The place just seemed dirty. The food was either over or under cooked , over spiced or underspiced. I wont go back ever. To bad though, the people were very friendly.

Not good at all. I wont be going back

Not what I expect from Vietnamese food. Pad Thai was overcooked & overseasoned slop. The highlight of the meal was my bottle of beer.

As for the real deal, you'll have to go to the lower mainland. But, for a quick fix of freshly prepared good food that is not over priced, clean and friendly family run

Good Service - BAD FOOD. Now, I am a huge fan of Vietnamese food and I eat it often. So I was really looking forward to having lunch at this restaurant. Our first warning sign should have been that the place was nearly empty at lunch time on Main Street. The second should have been the Spanish flamenco music.

The waitress was very friendly and took our orders quickly. I went with an old favorite, classic beef pho, and Mr. C. and Mummy went for one of the lunch combos (I am always a bit leery of combos but British Mr. C. is trying to get into the North American spirit of things and has been ordering combos gamely all over town), that had spring rolls, a rice dish, a vegetable dish, and sweet and sour pork.

Anyway, the food arrived quickly, too quickly it turned out to have been cooked freshly or with any apparent skill. My soup tasted just like a cinnamon stick had farted into a pot of boiling water. There was no depth, richness, or even, well, flavor. In this was an abundance of noodles that, because the broth was totally tasteless were completely bland. The beef was okay, put then again, putting raw beef slices into a bowl of soup is usually pretty straightforward. I am only now able to talk about the "meatballs", sad, tired, little grey slices that had a bizarre texture the likes of which I have never felt and could not even begin to explain. It must be said though that I think I have gone off them for life. However, I am an optimist especially when it comes to food, and I tried to perk up the lot with my fixin's of hoisin and chili sauce, sadly to no avail. I even briefly considered throwing in the basil and lime that had arrived at the table well past their prime, but at this point I am afraid I simply lost the will to carry on (after all, you can't polish a turd).

Mr. C. and Mummy were faring no better. Their combos, which had looked decent, tasted old and greasy, "like food from a mall food court. And not a good mall either." Mummy said (ouch). I tried a piece of Mr. C's pork (like I said, optimist), and honestly, it tasted strangely like our puppy's breath smells. It was really bizarre. And unpleasant. It was at this point that we waved the white flag and called the waitress over. And to their credit (or else they knew the food was terrible) they apologized, well, they made the waitress apologize and tell us that we were not expected to pay for the meal (good, because I wouldn't have). We did decline the offer of more food though (!)and left. Mr. C. and Mummy felt ill for the rest of the day, though that may have been psychological since they both recovered enough to go for wing night. So overall, bad experience.

I'm not a Vietnamese food expert but in terms of Asian food in general I found it quite good. The Lemongrass Chicken was tasty

Wonton Soup. Best Won Ton ever
Jess
Soup. They really have the best Wonton soup (especially the war wonton) Everything else I have tried didnt have that authentic taste and feel I was looking for. I was dissapointed in there pho soup, I have yet to find a good one in penticton.

This place blows ass. If you have ever had real Vietnamese food you would definitely know the difference. It is all bland as hell. The only thing going for this place was the rolls which were not bad. Totally disappointed .

Worst Vietnamese restaurant!. Chicken Pad Thai
Lemongrass chicken
Comments:
Worst Vietnamese restaurant I've been to in Canada! I'm not kidding you. We walked in and the lady was too busy to take our orders. Instead of taking our order she proceeds to clean the place. We just wanted to do takeout as the place was closing. We tasted the food and it was terrible.

The pad thai tasted like hot sauce on top of overcooked noodles and the Lemongrass chicken tasted like chicken boiled in water. We were very upset as they had apparently had won awards for being the best south asian cusine. We just threw the food away.
