Review The Bench Market - Penticton

Abigail Siu
Very good food, had the breakfast burrito with extra chicken - was absolutely delicious, most waiters are very helpful and cheerful. Would have given a five star, however one of the waitresses (a blonde girl) was extremely rude and angry, she was throwing a huge tantrum publicly and kept moving our table around to force us to sit in the torching sun because she “had to” arrange her patio her way and we were in her way. As a business owner myself, I personally think she is a liability to such an amazing business and is really damaging the restaurant’s reputation.

Lovely spot for weekend brunch. Staff is super friendly and efficient, coffee is delicious. Food is tasty. What more could you need? Also have a great grocery section and take out food.

Such a great little place with a variety of food. We went to have breakfast and the plates were big enough that my husband was full! And the coffee was superb. I would definitely go there again

This place is fantastic. The host (which might be the owner) greets every party and controls the flow of people so you never feel like you're waiting. Even at the busiest if times. All the staff are super friendly and accommodating. They were highly focused on ensuring proper social distancing and in a very effective way that also made it feel like the bistro was serving your party alone. Food and drinks come out fresh and fast. But nothing feels rushed. We've had their sandwiches to go and this time dined in for breakfast. Have amazing food choices such as bowls and paninis and burritos. When visiting Penticton. This is a must stop.

Cheerful, organized staff. Great food. Clean. Right from the get-go the boss was friendly and interacted with guests, making us feel very welcome. Even with a large volume of people the line kept moving and the food was prepared in a timely fashion. Great seating indoors and out. A must visit!

Friendly staff, good taste, but I hate it when a breakfast place cannot cook eggs in a way you ordered. I asked for medium poached eggs (don't judge me I don't like runny eggs hahaha), repeated a few times to make sure, still got super runny easy poached eggs. Eggs are the basic and essential for a breakfast place imo :') Otherwise I'd give 5/5

Omg the service was so incredible. The food was delish and I didn't feel too full or cheaped out, perfect portions. Coffee was also great. I highly recommend this place as the environment was warm welcoming even the other customers were friendly. The dish I got was sausage and egg breakfast and im satisfied

Their waffles on weekends are to die for! I would rate 10/10. We were quite disappointed they don’t have any waffles or pancakes on weekdays though. The veggie eggs Benedict were also very good. And the grilled cheese was delicious!

They have the best food hands down and the loaded Eggs Benny is to die for. Make sure to pair it up with their cappuccino yum yum. Don't leave Pentiction with out experiencing this little gem of a place.

We've eaten here quite a few times, never miss it on our way through penticton! Awesome brunch, amazing sandwiches, and friendly staff! It gets busy, but food this good is worth waiting and rubbing elbows for. Highly recommend it.

Food was great but I think they need to figure out a better system for more efficient service. Perhaps 2 tills and one line just for drinks and another for food (and drinks)? Recommend this place though. Quality food and friendly! Thanks BM 😊

Went this morning and had an amazing experience getting coffee! However this afternoon was a whole other story. I understand being tired after a busy day. But, I politely asked for a sandwich without two ingredients because of dietary restrictions and the staff was extremely rude in return. When I finally received it, they included the ingredients in excess. If this is how this establishment handles allergies and being politely asked not to include a sauce (it was not even a substitution), it is very disappointing. $20 wasted, but feeling so disrespected as a patron and a person with how I was spoken to is more of a loss than the money.

I rated it a 4 star but...price for substituting non-gluten bun is excessive. I've been a big fan of the Bench for many years...I live locally, used to go several times a week as well as taking my out of town summer visitors there. The coffee is good and so is the food. However, charging $3.50 to replace a regular bun with a non-gluten one is excessive. Most places charge $1.50 and that's reasonable because gluten-free is a bit more expensive. With the $3.50, a small, simple Bench Eggwich goes from $4.25 to $7.75. When I inquired I didn't get a satisfactory response, just something about extra labour to do the substitution. I still go there, although not nearly as often, but just for coffee.

Great location, friendly staff in a clean, funky little market style setting. The food is a tad pricey but you are getting quality eats and good portion sizes + the coffee is excellent, which is hard come by in penticton restaurants. It'd be great to see the breakfast menu extended through the week with a few more options. Hands down one of the better spots in penticton.

A bit off the beaten path in Naramata. Interestingly located in the suburb of Naramata up the hill. Adorable atmosphere style cafe with awesome brunch. My salmon eggs Berny literally demolished my hangover. Food took a while to arrive, but was well with it. The fresh pressed juices and muffins are a must!

Food is top notch & coffee is delicious. A definite pit stop when you're in Penticton, especially for breakfast. The salmon Benny or waffles on the weekend menu is incredible & my hubby loved the "eggwich" which is an egg/bacon sandwich. Yum oh!

"SO SO". I used to go this place very often, I frequent Penticton on a regular basis. However it is absolutely not what it used to be. Food is passible, however very over priced, inconsistent, place is always a mess, so many people work there and no one has a clue what to do. I waited for a simple coffee with a sandwich that I payed $12 for with nothing for 30 min. When you're in a hurry certainly don't waste your time going there because you will be waiting a long time. Bathroom had urine all over the toilet every table was sticky. Too bad because they used to have amazing atmosphere, people that worked there were very personable, not the case now they barely look at you or even listen when you are speaking.
Coffee is still good but very over priced. Good Luck.

Delicious food and incredible coffee!. Had a bacon and egg english muffin ($4.95) and a 20oz coffee ($2.50). Both were so, so good! My partner had the smoked salmon and egg english muffin, and she absolutely loved it too! We highly recommend this place!

Lots of choice - great value. After a few winery stops along the Naramata Bench this was a great stop. Nice patio, comfortable cafe. For lunch, 1/2 sandwich and salad for 8.95 - the Fun Guy (mushroom and tiger blue chees) with artichoke salad was my combo. The Sonora salad (gluten free). Excellent value and some great desserts. Service was excellent even on a busy lunch.

Worst breakfast ever. Saturday morning 8.30am, only a few guests.
The first disappointment was the brewed organic coffee, very, very weak.
The next was the breakfast: poached eggs with toast and potatoes, sausage and beans. We ate the toast and the eggs. The potatoes didn't come fresh, they were reheated and with the first bite I spit it out again, because parts of it were cold, like fridge cold.
The floor was dirty, really spilled old food from the day before and the cook was hectic although almost nobody was there. All in all, honestly, the worst breakfast we had by far. We choose this place by the urban-spoon reviews. How can this be?

Great place, nice outside seating, had the pulled pork panini ..... Awesome

Great lunch spit especially if you can score a table outside. The paninis are excellent, crispy, chewy and cheesy. My only complaint is they close at 5 I really wish we could have the option of dinner here as well as lunch.

Really good food unfortunately the service I experinced was terrible. Ordered two sandwiches from behind the glass case and as I did the phone rang they took that persons order and as my server was grabbing my sandwiches the other woman said sorry someone just phoned for those and took them from my server. Didn't offer to make more either. It looked like it might have even been a manager who did that. I was blown away. Haven't wanted to go back since.

Great breakfast spot in Pentcton! Added to my favorites list!

A true taste of the Okanagan. Local artisan breakfast and lunch dishes that never disappoint. Vegetarians will be pleased. Meat eaters will be delighted. If you enjoy a delicious brunch and conversation on a sun-bathed terrace w glimpses of the lake, you'll love The Bench. If you love coffee with friends in a cozy, neighbourhood setting as the snow falls outside, you'll love The Bench. If you live in the Okanagan, you'll want to make this a regular hang-out. If you visit the Okanagan, you'll want to come enjoy the flavours of the valley and take some home. This is the place.

Great for picnics. This is a great place to stop in and grab some cheeses, meats and side dishes before you head up the Naramata bench for wine tastings. Food on the wine tour, when you come across it, is good but usually pricy and harder to find.

I had ordered a mother's day basket from here and was slightly disappointed with the result. I had spent $150 on one basket and $75 on another and you could barely tell where the extra money went.
Good food offered nonetheless

Great coffee. Great food. Sunny terrace to enjoy it on.

One of the best in the Okanagan if not BC. Great coffee, great breakfast, great lunch, great market with local products. If you are in the Penticton area the Bench is a must their eggs benny are arguably the best add a side of their sweet potato hashbrowns and there is no better breakfast in the valley.
Discerning Diner
Best Breakfast. Best place for breakfast and coffee in Penticton. Love the wine barrel tables and chairs, great food and friendly staff.

Such a quaint little cafe with a beautiful outdoor patio, fantastic food and funky gifts. Merica and I shared our meals, the bacon & egger and the yogurt with granola – both were delicious. I actually expected the bacon & egger to just be normal bacon and eggs so I had a surprise when they bought out an english muffin! I also got a yummy take away almond cherry & chocolate cookie mmm Cute place to brunch in the sun. Location, location, location. This market is located at the foot of Naramata Bench, meaning you will pass it on your way to all the wineries there, and on your way back. It’s a cute place, and a great stop to grab something on the go, or linger over a light meal.
