Review Texas Bbq - Parksville

This was the second time I have tried them. Last time I had the pulled pork and thoroughly enjoyed it. This time I tried the brisket, which was excellent, and a recent addition to the menu... a lamb chop. The chop was amazing! It was so tender I didn't need a knife, the meat just fell off the bone. I would have had 2 but they had only 1 left. Found out that you can call ahead and they will hold your order. Oh yeah, they are great people too.

Very quick and easy to get your food. The brisket sandwich was $14 and does not come with a side. I would say the amount of sauce is scant for the sandwich, next time I would ask for two. $33 for two people to eat and it was *just* enough. The meat was very tasty and the bun was fresh. The potato salad was creamy and had pickles! My fave. I would go back and try the pulled pork next time.

The best smoked beef brisket and beanless chili around. Food has great flavour and is fairly priced. The only downside is there is no shaded tables or chairs to eat at. Won't be disappointed.

I have mixed feelings about this place but am giving them the benefit of the doubt. I usually judge bbq on their brisket. It should have great bark, be moist, flavorful and the fat should be melt-y not chewy. The bark isn't very flavorful, it's not that moist and the fat is chewy. But! The rest of the stuff they have is great. I'll try the brisket again soon, maybe it was just one off day.

Went for barbecue lunch today(Friday Nov 12 2019 at 11:45am). Food truck no longer in this location. Don't know where they've moved to or if they are closed for good. Tried again Thursday June 16 2022 at 1:30 pm. Not at this listed location. Not sure if still in business or moved.

I had high hopes for Texas brisket, but the brisket had no smoke ring. It was tender, but dry. The brisket was served in a sandwich and wasn't spiced well. I've had much better. The beans, however, were fantastic.

The service was friendly, the food was just ok. We've had some good BBQ over the years in restaurants across Canada and the South-west. We have a smoker at home and make our own BBQ regularly. We ordered the brisket. The bun was nice and toasted, however it was apparent the chef didn't trim the fat cap at all. Some of the pieces had 1"-1.5" inch of fat on the outside. There should be some, but not that much. It didn't have any prominent smoke flavour to it and I felt it was dry. First bite tasted more like shaved roast beef than tender BBQ brisket. Brisket was cut thin. Our kids enjoyed the turkey legs, although they kept asking for more salt. Very little, if any, seasoning on it. The cornbread had good flavour, but it was definitely older and just starting to get stale. It was crumbly. The bacon bites, the one liked it, the other didn't want to eat the sausage. The coleslaw was very good. A little bit of heat to it. Nice. The sauces, and they have many, were not explained very well by the front staff. We tried 3 types and I personally didn't care for any. We had a hot BBQ, Carolina red and Carolina mustard. The BBQ had too much molasses for my liking. The Carolina red was just ok. The mustard based was the best sauce but I don't prefer mustard on my brisket sandwich as I prefer a BBQ based or vinegar based. All of this was about $50. So that is a good price and we walked away not feeling over full with meat sweats. I think if you haven't had much amazing BBQ before, you may enjoy it. For those that have travelled and eaten some really good BBQ, you may be disappointed. We aren't from the area and likely won't try it again.

Traveled here and moved not long ago to the island, decided to try this small bbq restaurant. A must try for anyone passing through. Edit Feb 7 2022: I am so happy that I added this place and helping it draw in customers galore, the reviews they have recieved have made a huge difference in the owners lives. Thanks to all who enjoyed going here and to continue supporting the business.
