I love this place. The owners are very knowledgeable about tea and are happy to take the time to help you choose just the right one for you. They have a wide selection of teas, and they're very high quality. This is the only place where I buy tea now!
To discover!. You like tea or have a curiosity for it...or would like to buy a nice gift? Go to World of Tea! Jean and Ji Li (the owners) are extremely knowledgeable and generous. They have an amazing variety of teas and tea utensils. Their sit in area is also very nice. Try one of their scones! A place I have been going to repeatedly for the past 3 years.
I had a delightful experience!. My first visit to world of tea was a delightful experience, the knowledge, the courtesy of the staff simply made me understand tea in a different way. It is really a major transformation : since this first trip I pay more attention to the way I brew tea, and realized I started to pay more attention to every details in life I wouldn't notice in the past. Indeed, like Jean (the owner) said: you get a part of the health benefit by the way you brew your tea. I strongly recommend this store.
Best tea shop for the quality of the service, the variety of green teas. World of tea is by far my favorite tea shop for the quality of the service, always felt welcome when I go there, and of course for the unbelievable quality of the green tea selection they have to offer. The owners of the shop, Ji Li and Jean, are expert tea lovers and they enjoy sharing their love of tea with others, and this is very helpful for people who are new to the loose leaf tea experience. They travel overseas to the gardens during the growing season so there's no middle man involved and you get the highest quality tea for the most reasonable price. Every time I go to World of Tea I learn something new about tea. I would highly recommend their store.
World of Tea is my favourite Tea Store. What a difference it makes purchasing tea from someone who has gone to the tea plantations themselves to get the tea. Expert tea sommeliers (I'm sure there's a word for this but I'm not sure what it is), Jean and JiLi (the owners) can describe and make recommendations about every product in the store. Their tea tastings have revolutionized the way I look at tea. Like a fine wine, the growing conditions and individual plants make a huge difference, one that I never would have discovered without their friendly and informative guidance. Every time I visit the store I leave in a great mood. Thank you World of Tea in Westboro!
Excellent Tea Shop. I have been a long time frequenter of World of Tea. The owners of the shop, JiLi and Jean, are expert tea lovers who enjoy sharing their love of tea with others. They have a very large selection of high quality teas, and are very helpful especially with people who are new to the loose leaf tea experience. They get their teas directly from the tea gardens, and travel overseas to the gardens during the peak growing season to specifically hand pick each tea that they will sell at the store, so there's no middle man involved and you get the highest quality tea for the most reasonable price. Going into World of Tea, I have never been disappointed and always learn something new about tea and the deep and rich culture behind it. They also serve tea in the shop as well, which includes white, green, oolong, puer, black and herbal teas. I would highly recommend their store both to those new to tea and those who have been long-time tea lovers.
Great learning experience and reasonable prices. I went in with my sister out of curiosity and was very satisfied with the experience! We each only bought a little -- I bought some chrysanthemum tea and she bought some green tea. They have a huge selection and the owner spent an hour talking to us about all sorts of teas. He pulled out all sorts of pu-erh teas for us to smell and let us sample at least four kinds of tea. Even though we were students and he likely guessed we wouldn't be making a large purchase, he took the time to chat with us and explain the history of the teas and his shop. He was very professional and courteous and it was a pleasure talking to him.
The prices are what you would expect from a specialized tea store; reasonable, but not cheap. You definitely get what you expect. I found the tea was of a good (high?) quality, but I'm not very well-versed in tea quality, so I can't say for sure. ;)
I would highly recommend this store!
Edit: I've returned to the store many times since I first wrote my review and each time it's as pleasant as the last. All of the tea I've purchased from them has been great -- you need very few tea leaves for a strong and flavourful pot.
The owners visit the farmers from whom they buy the tea personally, which is just fantastic. They can tell you all about the teas, where they come from, and so on.
Edit2: Unfortunately, since moving to Centretown, they've removed their tea room. :( I think they have room for a table and some chairs, but it seems as though they're gone completely. So sad! I loved that feature.
Edit3: I returned to get some tea in December 2015 and got to try some of the green teas they keep in their fridge. I got some of their Feng Gang green tea and it has a really neat flavour! Definitely worth purchasing if you enjoy green tea. I will try to update this review once I can figure out how to better describe the tea... it's definitely interesting.
When I was in last, I ended up chatting with one of the owners, Jean, for a few minutes. I really like visiting this store because now I've been there enough that Jean and Ji Li both recognize me, so it's fun to talk to both of them when I go in to get tea. I really like that personable feel. :)
I should also mention that in my previous edit, I indicated that their tea room was no longer. Although it's gone, you can still get tea to go! They also have ice cream made with tea now! I haven't tried it, but I would really like to.
I visited the Westboro area of Ottawa last week on business and had to investigate World of Tea ( 298 Richmond Road, Ottawa ). Upon entering the store I noticed three tables in the front with a group of three customers about to enjoy their tea. As well, there was a wide variety of teas, teapots and other tea related items neatly arranged on shelves and around the main cash area. I was welcomed by Ji Li, the store owner, and inquired how I was and handed the menu. The menu of teas consists of pages upon pages of different types of tea to choose from. The list was endless and I had limited myself to just one! No wonder the other customers had decided to come together in a group of three, more options to enjoy! I settled on the Organic Peppermint. Ji asked me to have a seat at the front and she would bring up the tea after she had prepared it. Five minutes later I had the sweet smell of peppermint tea wafting up my nostrils. Ji explained that she had just poured the water to steep
