We purchased a first communion cake for 20 guests it was delicious! Some guests noted it was the best cake they've had! Moist and not too sweet.
Lovely spot!. I came here for my birthday with my mom, such a pretty place. Not only did I get a free cupcake, but the ice cream was out of this world delicious (and a huge portion). Our perrier water came with a glass of ice and fresh lemon wedge. Great spot :) I also included a photo of my sister's "poutine" cake. Delish!
I ordered the "black magic cake" for my moms birthday. It was very moist and ready on time.
Delicious. For someone with a peanut and nut allergy this is heaven. It is so amazing to be able to buy beautiful cakes. There are tons of choice as well. It is a little expensive but when your options are so limited this is well worth the costs.
Life across the street from The Cake Shop. I've become a regular since first tasting their croissants a couple weeks ago. They were light, buttery, soft and warm on the inside, crisp with a light flake on the outside... in short, perfect. A far cry from the many disappointments I've had at other bakeries along Wellington.
In that time, I've also had the cheesecake - decadently creamy, tall, whimsically decorated, rich and crumbly crust. The sugar-less cupcakes almost had a crumpet-like quality to them but the sugar definitely wasn't missed, the tarte ground cherry and thick cream made the natural sweetness very present in a nice way. The sugar cookies were thick and didn't crumble. The truffles were moist, dense, and rich with quality chocolate, the flavours were a nice surprise (toffee, raspberry, clementine, caramel, etc.). I even enjoyed some fresh cinnamon rolls which had crisped up ever so slightly on the bottoms :) The only real disappointment has been that they're closed on Sundays through winter.
Well, I'm heading back out now for my morning croissant and coffee!
For The Young & Young at Heart. Everytime I walk into this place it reminds me of Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. I half expect to hear Gene Wilder whisper 'make a wish...count to three...' The atmosphere is a child's fantasy with cakes and cookes and pies and tarts in every shape and colour and as far as the eye can see. And they taste as good as they look. The products have consistently been of a high standard and quality. The cakes have been decadent, flavourful and moist. Cookies have been chewy or crisp, buttery, sweet but not overly so. Most importantly they are what they are supposed to be and NOT the latest gastro-trend (ughhhh...yet another critque of a bakery based solely on cupcakes...). Overall, I highly recommend this establishment if you're looking for a bakery that does baked cakes and pastries and not baking trends.
Worth stopping for. As an out of town visitor to Ottawa I happened upon The Cake Shop - what a lucky surprise. Delicious cookies and cakes. I now make a special effort to stop off there whenever I'm in town, and I put in requests when friends from Ottawa visit me. My absolute favourites are the truffles and the caramel filled cookies. Mmmm delicious. I love that they use real butter and proper home-made ingredients - you can taste the difference.
I love the store, quality of the product and the excellent service. Deserts are "my thing" and nothing is better than sitting in their store with a cupcake and a lovely cup of tea!
Good. We've been to the Cake Shop for cupcakes and eclairs. I found the cupcakes a little dry, but my husband loved them. The eclairs are really, really good. I've been told the cookies are really good too.
