Review Brother Wu Restaurant - Ottawa

Roy Wallace
I am frankly surprised that this restaurant only rates a 3.3 average. We have been going there on and off for over 20 years and keep going back because the food is REALLY good and the owner and his wife are friendly and attentive. The dinners for two are really great value for money!

The food is ok, the size is perfect for me to full myself though. Service is ok, I like the mango juice, but it's only a tiny cup and it take me like $3 or something, also they don't have that many flavors to offer.

Tasty food, extremely kind service. We will be back for dim sum and Peking duck!

We have been enjoying Brother Wu's food and hospitality for the past years. Our favorite is the beef noodle. We think it's the best in town. The fried dumplings are also very good. The owner is a great businessman and often offers free dishes.

We go for Peking duck a couple times a year as a special occasion treat and it is always amazing. Call in advance and let them know you’re on your way to make things quicker if need be, but the three courses are all equally delicious and definitely worth a visit! Will always go back.

I received a take out order from Brother Wu's. The bag broke and dumped my order on to the kitchen floor. I called and Brother Wu replaced our order with no fuss. Thank you Brother Wu for your generous and timely response. We'll continue to order from you. We also love the food!

I had a pleasant meal. Reasonably cheap lunch. Shrimp on rice with lobster sauce. Good. Pleasant manager.

Excellent service despite reviews here, he does his best. Excellent food! I Highly recommend the spicy dishes.

Eugene makes the best Taiwanese beef noodle soup in town. Delicious pot stickers.

Get 3 things from here. Beef noodles in spicy soup. Stir fried noodles szechuan style. And dumplings the pan fried ones.

Very traditional Taiwanese and Chinese food. Impressed by the quality of food and the kindness of the owner

Best egg rolls and general Tao chicken in Ottawa by far.

Good food! Bit of a long wait but was worth it.

Used to be our favourite Chinese food place. Even though a little more expensive than other places, it was worth the price for the quality of the food. We would drive into town when we wanted "good Chinese food". The food was excellent until the last order around Canada day. It was obvious that it was warmed from frozen. It was horrible. What an experience! Maybe an off day? I certainly wouldn't make the trip into town again for Chinese food from this place. Sorry brother wu, your food was good at one time. Hopefully it will be again. When it is we will return.

Best Chinese food in Ottawa but very average service, you should try.
Crispy beef, General Tao and Shangai noodles are excellent
But let me repeat myself, the service is really bad

Former glory. Our office often gets take-out for lunch. I have had Brother Wu for lunch on average every-other month for over two years.
The meals were great, but have been steadily declining in flavour and edibility. The last couple of times the rice tasted burnt, the crispy beef has been transforming into leather. On my last plate, the vegetables smelled absolutely awful.
I had to throw out my plate after only a couple of bites.
I am sad to say that this restaurant has made the "no-fly list", and we will not be ordering from there again.

Incredibly slow service and terrible food. Don't order the dim sum because they don't wash the baskets the dim sum are served in. I found out the hard way with some nasty grim on the top of my dim sum since they stack the baskets.

Terrible food! Paíd $40 for two dishes and a few spring rolls. Chicken guy ding was the worst I've ever tasted, chicken smelled funny and tasted horrendous. Two bites were eaten and the entire container thrown out. Beef and broccoli was whatever, not horrible but not good either. It's a shame Since I had wars decent things about this place. I wouldn't rend brother wu to anyone.

Worst Chinese Food EVER. We ordered delivery, which took over 75 mins to arrive. The Veggie Chow Main was nothing but cooked bean sprouts with onions... No noodles or veggies. The Won Ton Soup had the soggiest won tons ever, that basically tasted like unseasoned pork in soggy dough and had a distinctly soapy dishwater taste to the broth. The only park of the dinner that didn't completely suck were the completely average egg roles. You couldn't pay me to order from here again.

Brother shrimp is a must-have

I just ordered from this place online and the prices from the online turned out to be different from what s on my receipt. I also added the tip on the order and the delivery driver asked what I wanted back( meaning how much r u giving me)... I told him that I had already included the tip on the order i did online but hey funny thing it's not written on the receipt... Will I be ordering from them again absolutely not!!!...hurry up with your renovations Lai Lai !!!!

Authentic Chinese food (and service). First, I'll establish my bona fides: Chinese-Canadian whose father was a gourmet chef; originally from Toronto but now living in Ottawa. Past gastronomic tourist in China. I know my Chinese food. By Ottawa standards, this restaurant serves up authentic Chinese dishes at quite decent quality and prices. I won't comment on North American Chinese food, but the real deal is on their menu (unfortunately, a lot us untranslated into English but demand to know what it is!). The bad news is, their service is authentically Chinese too. That bad. Slow, unfriendly, impersonal. For example, after many years, the female co-owner never once uttered a word to us to say hello, thank you, come again, except when there was a price dispute and she vigorously woke up in attack mode. So much for customer loyalty. If you're Caucasian, you can expect quicker and friendlier service, and that woman and her husband will actually talk to you. If you have young children, expect to be segregated at a table in the back corner; kids just aren't welcome here. Bottom line: come only if you're desperate for real Chinese food in the east end otherwise stay away.

So so... 7/10.... After driving by this place a thousand times and liking the look of it... Old school... I finally talked my partner into trying it.

Suffice to say, it was mediocre. I was thrilled at the thought of the crispy beef... but to my mind there's crispy beef and then there's crispy and inedible beef. This beef had seen better moments... like about 5 minutes earlier before it was cooked to texture of bark.

We went - I admit - fully Can Chinese - so some of the other dishes might have rocked.

That said - the chow mein - one of my favourites - was fresh and top notch and the general tao a solid 7/10.

The owner is a tad crusty... but just ask him about all the pictures he has of Stephen Harper ordering take-out and he'll brighten up.

I would like to try lunch here one day ... as it looks as if they have some interesting szechuan dishes...

Imperial Shrimp and Fried dumplings. This place is absolutely horrible! The customer service is terrible. The owners do not take the time to understand anything. Honestly, I'm going to tell everyone I know to never eat there!!!
And by the way the food isn't great at all, everything I ordered was cold and the person answering the phone couldn't even take the proper order. This IS chinese food at its worst.
If you can't serve people the RIGHT go out of business.

Crispy beef and tangerine chicken. My wife and I craved some good Chinese food so we googled a place and found brother wu. We ordered the crispy beef and tangerine chicken take out, We have to say that it was not what we expected, super dry bitter chicken and very leathery dry thin beef pieces. We couldn't eat it. We will never order there again.
