For me, I go to this place for one specific meal: A nice big bowl of congee and some bbq pork buns. It is the perfect comfort food for brunch on a cold day.

What I love about this place is that it almost has a diner atmosphere. The staff are chatting and working, people are just casually eating. So it's not for everyone, or for a romantic date, but it is perfect if you're just relaxing and enjoying a meal by yourself.

This might have been the best Chinese take out experience I've ever had (I have bad luck with Chinese take out usually). Got the steamed BBQ pork buns (ah-maz-ing not too sweet, good meat, a little on the small side though), chicken dumplings (delicious), two orders of rice, spring rolls (yum and steaming hot), and got extra fortune cookies. Like I said, I always have something go wrong with Chinese take out, but this place got it right. So happy I live just down the street. Hard not to get the steamed buns often ☺️

Ordered from skipthedishes and despite the driver getting a bit lost, the food came hot and the sesame balls blew me away. I'm going to order from them again.

An Ottawa landmark, but not for germ-a-phobes seeking a spotless dining experience.. One dish, Won Ton Soup with BBQ duck. Simple, delicious, quick and filling. Maybe not the finest choice of quality ingredients, but the flavours are authentic and the BBQ duck is great. Many of the dishes have the flavour only achievable with a well used and dirty wok.

It is what it is - giant menu, giant servings low prices and late night dining. NOT haute cuisine. Students love it.. This restaurant has been feeding Ottawa a long long time and stays open late ( it can look a bit like the bar scene in star wars at 1 am , or an Edward Hopper diner maybe.) The food can be inconsistent depending who is cooking and can arrive at a variety of times for the same reason. The congee is great, the fried noodle dishes are fine, soups are good and I have actually had a whole fish or two I was pretty happy to have eaten. BB sauce things - especially eggplant dishes - tend to be okay by me. Sometimes the sauces on your veggies or shrimp is pr etty gluey with cornstarch , but hey! you did not come for the sophisticated and subtle did you? There is a barbeque window that sells what they make so you can be sure to get hot roast duck, pork etcetera. They can always handle a crowd arriving unannounced. When selecting a place to sit avoid the south east table in the front of house - it is too close to the bathroom. Warts and all, and nearly forty years later I still duck in here for a bite with some regularity. The owner is a fine person,

Food is excellent. When I go to a Chinese restaurant I am looking for traditional Chinese not chicken balls and egg rolls. I lived in China for 2 years and Yang Sheng is where I go when I am craving a real taste of China.

Impressed with honourable service and tasty product!. I had a very positive experience with Yang Sheng, and I apologize for a long story, haha.

My lab had ordered a large amount of food to feed 15 people as part of a celebratory lunch the following afternoon. After having placed the order, a communications mixup ensued with their new website and was instead delivered immediately! Seeking a logical way forth, I suggested to the friendly and apologetic delivery lady to leave half the food for us to warm up for the lunch, and to freshly re-deliver the other half (consisting mostly of things better fresh, e.g. egg rolls) the following afternoon.

Well, the next morning, she phoned with apologies from both herself and the manager. Assuring me that they would be more vigilant regarding website-provided delivery times from then on, she delivered FRESH ANOTHER ENTIRE ORDER free of additional charge. This was a class move which impressed my entire lab, and the delivery lady literally maintained, apologetically, that she only "believes in delivering the freshest Cantonese"!!

The food was top notch, with ample portions. The noodles (cantonese with shredded chicken; beef chow fun) were perfectly cooked: lots of flavour and not at all oily. The rices (salted fish; mixed vegetable) were fragrant and filling. The main dishes impressed my colleagues; from the eggplant with tofu to the almond chicken guy ding, from the chicken balls to the salt and pepper squid. We were happy, full, and craving fourths. Seriously, we had a LOT of food for what we paid.

Whatever teething issues the new management has apparently had (documented in other reviews), I can confidently say that they have settled in well. Having impressed me with their product and their service, people should understand how the staff at Yang Sheng went above and beyond in delivering what amounted to an impressive feast. We will definitely be ordering from them again.

Good food for the price. Great delivery service, food is excellent for the price (its very cheap compare to other chinese restaurants). Inside could use a little cleaning/renovations but the most important is obviously the food = excellent.
I recommend the BBQ duck and the beef fried noodles.

Decent quality, but expensive. I think they do the staples of Chinese food fine. I prefer their General Tao's chicken, Cantonese fried noodles, and spring rolls to the stuff made by other places.

But they are more expensive than other places.

This place rocks! I would highly suggest anything with BBQ pork. All of the soups are awesome, they do General Tao Chicken awesome, only place I've had it with wonderful broccoli florets. Situated right on the corner of Bronson and Sommerset, looking right at the new Chinatown arch, although the restaurant is a little sketchy, and there is always some strange Asian dude drinking champagne, it's got a ton of soul...

Always scary people, always great food. This place is dirty with sketchy people hanging out inside and out ... but the food is worth it

absolutely the best BBQ duck in the city, it is almost an addiction.

Soups are for sharing, the bowls are huge, they are never loaded with cornstarch or other filler crap.

The atmosphere hasn't changed ever, nor has the quality

Not for neat freaks or nit pickers....but guaranteed a great stop for foodies

YUMMY WHITE THINGS!. I've been going to this restaurant since I was about 12. My crazy uncles initiated me to the place. And one of the first things I had there was, what we refer to as "the white things". It's listed on the menu as "steamed rice noodle". You can get it with BBQ pork, Beef or shrimp. I have been patheticaly addicted to things things ever since. Load them up with hot sauce, wow what a treat. I believe the dish is called Chee Cheong Fun but it's not listed as that on the menu. I haven't found this dish anywhere else. It's basically a wide (about 5") rice noodle maybe about 1/8" thick wrapped around the filling of your choice (BBQ pork, Beef or shrimp). It's served in a small dish in a sort of sweet soy sauce. I'm not sure what the mixture is, hoisin and something else to think it out maybe?... Anyways, it's very very very addictive, be warned!!!!
