It is a cute little donut shop located right by Byward market in Ottawa. There is no eat in space.
My donut was signature donuts and it was CAD3.5 ish, classic donuts are 2.5 ish. Which is decent pricing for speciality donuts in my opinion.
I tried lemon ricotta cake donuts and it was delicious. Cake donut part are the same as the other ones but it had lemon icing and ricotta whipping cream on top. The icing was not too sweet and well balanced with the sweetness from the cream. Donut was nice and moist.
The store smelled a bit funky to me(like a washroom like smell...) so I was worried but it was very good.
We bought a 6 pack (1 of each special + 2 fritters), and 2 regular small ones. We don't usually go out of our way to desserts but had to try it. We thought it was much better than Suzy Q.
Maverick's is alright, but I wasn't really impressed. The store is a bit small, but well laid out (though I wish they had a coat rack or something, as there really isn't anyplace to put one if you don't feel like wearing it while you eat). I was really excited to try the lemon ricotta donut, but just found the lemon too overpowering and the donut too rich. Though it wasn't bad by any means, it just wasn't great. Their coffee was fine, but I ordered a latte and I swear their was no milk in it. They also have mugs, but didn't offer me one despite asking if my order was for there or to go. The prices also aren't great, kind of expensive even, all things considered.
Best donuts in town and freshly baked with the option to customize your own toppings. Even though they are a bit on the pricey side it's still worth going there.
I finally got around to checking out Ottawa’s newest donut show Maverick’s Donuts which is owned by 5 local businessmen. Maverick’s Donuts makes a variety of specialty cake doughnuts, but one of the special features of this restaurant is the ability to make your own donut!
When making your own custom donut you get to pick your icing you’d like (chocolate, maple, vanilla, and caramel) along with the topping (sprinkles, Skor, Reese’s Pieces, Kit Kat, peanuts, M&Ms, Fruit Loops, Oreo cookie crumb, sea salt, and marshmallows).
There also are a variety of signature donuts to pick from including wake’n bacon (bacon with maple icing), cherry cheese cake (cherry glaze over cream cheese filling), chocoholic (chocolate donut with chocolate glaze), PB & J (peanut butter and jam filled), crème brûlée (pastry cream brûlée sugar), and lemon ricotta (lemon filling with citrus glaze). When I visited there also happened to be a special red wine and blueberry donut too!
Good donuts. They are very much aware of when a donut is going to be too much with a topic so they make them a good size according to what they are topped with. Only complaint is the jelly on the top of the pb and j was not great but peals off easily making the donut more enjoyable. 👍
