Love this little family run restaurant - food is well cooked and delicious...  only a few tables but the waiter is attentive and helpful.  Only problem can be parking, it is at the back down a little lane.
There is one step into the dining area.

This is has to be my favourite Indian restaurant in Ottawa! Or at least the one with the creamiest butter chicken. I've been here several times with friends and family' and every time is as good as the last. The service is excellent and I love that they bring a warming tray to keep your food warm as you eat. Only downside is that they do not accept debit (cash or credit only!). Overall an excellent dining experience.

Best Indian food in Ottawa!. Small location that gets packed often which tells you how good the food is! They are often short staffed and cannot keep up with the rush, so I recommend doing takeout if you don't want to wait long.

For appetizers, I recommend the onion bhaji and the prawn puri. I wouldn't recommend the shammi kabab.

For entrees, I recommend the chicken tikka, shrimp methi gosht, and chicken biriyani.

I love this place! Best prawn puri ever and the garlic naan is phenomenal. I've tried a lot of their curries. My favourite is the vindaloo, but the madras is great too. Highly recommend!

Amazing!. I had such a great experience here with both the food and the service! The restaurant was small, but I thought it was charming. We had the platter for two (which included the tandoori chicken, lamb, naan, and others) along with the butter chicken. The platter was delicious, but what blew me away was the butter chicken dish. It was so good we ordered a second to take home. It tasted exactly as a butter chicken should - not spicy but had great flavour. Our waitress was very nice, we chatted with her a bit and found out this is her family's restaurant, with her father as the chef. Super nice family with delicious and authentic food. Doesn't get much better than that! I can't wait to go back and try their other dishes.

Namaste India. I have been to Namaste three times and had an excellent experience each time. The samosas are good. The lamb vindaloo is reasonably hot and very flavourful. The biryani is exceptional! The chicken madras is also quite good, and the staff are extremely prompt with water and drink refills. Highly recommended.

Delicious delicious food. Truly!

Chicken dhansak was amazing.
Lamb vindaloo was so spicy and delicious. Enjoyed with naan, rice and samosa apps.

My partner and I ordered two more entrees for take out: the Ceylon chicken dish and some other beef dish called Bhutan (lol -- something like that). Seriously expect to wait an hour - at least for food. So definitely don't go when you're starving. The service was ok but sweet and friendly. It seems that a lot of people are unhappy with the wait times but I think it demonstrates that the food is actually made fresh to order. Great place. Will be back. But take cash and credit over $20 only.

Decent, but not the best in town. Although I didn't dislike my meal, I think there are better Indian restaurants both nearby and further afield. Light of India and Taj Mahal (in that order) are better bets, as is Sitar downtown. The service was kind, although timid.

PS: I may try it again at some point and update this review, since thiswas only based on one visit in 2012.

I'd go back. There is definitely room for improvement as many people have pointed out, some of the staff could be friendlier that's for sure, I experienced the same pointing to our reserved table and my boyfriend found them rather abrupt when he made the reservation. I'm also not a fan of how they don't advertise that they don't take Interac, this is not a practice I appreciate in restaurants. But in the end she did ask us how we found our meal and there was an older woman who was smiling and pleasant. I think it might be cultural thing.

However, using the Groupon deal we definitely had a good value. I found my meal to be spicy and flavourful, while my boyfriend's was sweeter and still very tasty. The naan was absolutely fantastic! Although it kind of sucks how rice and naan are sold separately. However, I appreciated the fact that she told us that one order of rice would be enough for us to share between two people.

All and all, I found the food to be very good and I'd be back!

Food was OK- Service needs Improvement. This was our 1st visit. We had the Namaste Special platter, onion bhaji and samosas. The meal was good but not great. The food could have been served hotter.Prices were reasonable.

Service is the big problem. Insufficient staff to handle the patrons especially when it's full. Tables are too small to handle the dishes that are brought to your table. Not sure the kitchen staff can handle requests when it's full.

We'll try it one more time. Would not recommend going during peak times.

Cozy little place. Naan is delicious and fresh. Tried the chicken korma, lamb Kashmir, peas pulao, mushroom badji, and chicken tandoori. Everything was spiced perfectly and tasty!

Service slightly slow, but no problem when the food is that good :)

Pretty darned good!. Have had the beef byriani, tandoori chicken and samosas here a few times and they have never disappointed. Service is a tad slow though, unless the manager is waiting tables, in which case it is pretty good. I tend to order quickly rather than pore over the menu, so I have noticed some odd looks when someone who was there before me sees me get served first... ya snooze ya lose!

Me and my girlfriend went there for the first time a few weeks ago and the food was really really good! We had onion bahaja and an eggplant curry with poori which was amazing! We had butter chicken and chicken tandoori for our entrees and a beer and glass of wine each and the bill was only $57! Can't wait to go back, definately will be going back!

Best Indian Buffet in Ottawa. I've been a life-long fan of Light of India and their incredible Indian buffet. I didn't think it was possible to find better until I tried Namaste's lunch buffet. The selection is amazing and all of the dishes were incredibly flavorful and fresh. The service is also great. I highly recommend this place if you love Indian food.

I visit this place every few months. I have a penchant for vegetables and their veggie byriani is excellent. The chicken tandori and beef cury are nice. They tend to use ghee sparingly unlike some other places that turn your food into cholesterol soup. The samosas are also quite tasty. Frienly service but a bit slow. I recommend calling for take out.

It was very good! When I came in I didn't expect much but that changed when I tasted their food!!! Also, though it's slow service, it is still very friendly! Good food takes time!

Mmm... indian mush!. Tonight I had some "Indian food in a diaper" as me and my sister like to call it. (Reference from movie Anchor Man).

The one thing I like about Indian food is how cozy it can be. There are all sorts of great combinations of "mush" (as me and my sister like to call it) to try.

It's a great way to have loads of vegetables, but I am not sure how "low fat" the dishes are with all that butter and coconutty goodness!

There is a new place on Bank street that recently opened Namaste, and I wanted to check it out.

We had a great time with the girls, laughing our heads off in this intimate, yet tacky place. We got great service and stuffed our faces! And the entire bill was $67 for 4 people. What a great deal!

Here are some pictures of what we ordered. I can't remember the names, I should have written them down.

Today was definitely a sharing day! We ordered a bunch of dishes and had a bit of everything. That's really the best way to try all the "mushes".

We were brought some of these lentil chips, they were very light, tasty and crispy.
The waiter also brought us complementary appetizers, "they are basically veggie burgers" one of the gals said at our table. Some kind of curry fried onion cabbage ball! There was a nice sweet sauce that came with it too.

We ordered rice, NAN bread (mmmm so fresh), curried vegetables, eggplant, butter chicken, and a spicy shrimp dish.

To finish our meal, we were served a lovely cup of fresh fruits in a bowl.. complementary!

I have to say, it's really nice going somewhere and being given free stuff. It just makes your experience that much more enjoyable. I wonder if this was his strategy... am I that obvious when taking pictures?

I should mention that you have to be in great company when you are blogging about your meal in a restaurant... not everyone will wait for you to take a picture before you dig in!

No one is going to want to eat out with me anymore, if I keep this up.

Delicious food, lovely family. My husband have had take-out twice now from Namaste. Absolutely delicious both times. Tonight we ordered the Shami kebab as an appetizer - lovely kebab patties with a nice side salad. The Naan was very fresh and papadam was complimentary and lovely. The Chi Saag Gosht was amazing - delicious flavours not too hot, hard to stop eating. The Mix Veg Baji also delicious. Nothing felt overly greasy or heavy, and portions definitely leave leftovers.
We had Golap Jam for dessert which was as good as any I have had.
They were very thoughtful to package the food well for take-out: they added a plastic bag between the kebab and its salad to keep the kebab from getting soggy, they wrapped the naan in lots of aluminum foil which kept it nice and warm and they wrapped up containers prone to leak with plastic wrap.
We were given a time for the pick up and they called us shortly before the time to let us know they needed 10 more minutes. When we did pick up they discounted the price of one dish and added rice pudding (without our asking) to make up for this inconvenience. Price was very reasonable even prior to this discount. Restaurant patrons seemed to be enjoying their dinner. Very friendly family.
We will definitely return.
