Stopped in for breakfast while in the west end. It was eggs, it was bacon, it was coffee, it was reasonable. If I'm out here may try again for lunch.
Cheap but good breakfast...disappointed that they don't make soft poached but will make other poached; reason for not making soft poached was "they break". Seriously. Lamest excuse for a non-experienced cooks to make.
Servers were helpful and efficient and the meal was excellent.
The awesome dessert actually looked like the menu picture.
We took a vote and agreed the total experience rated four stars.
their diner stuff seems to be hit and miss, but their wings are big, great, and cheap. $5.95 for a pound everyday which is about 10~11 wings, works out to be around $0.60 a wing approximately. There's only like 8-10 flavours. Suicide and cajun are our favourites. Service is friendly and prompt!
We went for breakfast and were amazed by the offerings (the first time I saw 6 eggs with 3 kinds of meets, 4 slices of toast : THE HULK). We had more traditional plates and were all satisfied. The service was friendly and fast - you never had an empty cup of coffee ! We'll be back.
Oldie but goodie. I have been coming here off and on for years, both as a student and as an adult. Its a great hangout place for friends for any occasion. The bar booths are comfy to watch sports and the staff are friendly. The food is okay, but what I really come here is for breakfast on weekends. I think its a great place to come meet up with a group of people for breakfast. They have large seating areas to accommodate big groups. I do agree with other posters that you will have a mix of college students and blue collared workers, but as someone who has been both I don't think its a problem.
Though the service can sometimes be a bit slow...my boyfriend and I frequent here often. The food is usually very good. They know how to make a mid rare steak better than lots of other places. I haven't tried much of their pastas..but pretty much everything else and never been disappointed.
Breakfast Review. Lots to choose from at very good prices! Scrambled eggs were cooked well, not mushy or runny and roasted potato cubes were nicely seasoned with a toasty flavour and not overly salty or greasy. Ham appeared to be deli Black Forrest ham slices and not sliced real roast ham but, at $3.85 for the dish that's perfectly fine by me! Waitress was very pleasant and offered a top-up on the coffee. We were a bit limited for time and so when I asked for the bill as she picked up our plates, the waitress was polite and prompt to deliver. I highly recommend this breakfast stop, particularly as your start to a busy week day (we went on a Friday morning at 9:30 a.m.).
I've been coming to Summerhays for a while now, and what you see is what you get. Stick with the 35 cent wings and the FAB burger. I don't like how people are complaining about the other food. Who goes to a dive college bar, looking for a 5 star gourmet meal?
As a student I love going to summerhays its a very fun enviroment and has great food. I went there today with a friend and had wings and drinks. I wish they had more drink specials but overall great place.
While I attended Algonquin College I spent a good deal of time at summerhays and I find that theu serve fairly good food for the price. The breakfast isn't out of this world but definetly isn't bar and the bar food does the trick if your just looking for some muchies to pair with some cold drinks. Summerhays will not blow your mind ,but the food is decent and price is very reasonable.
Great wing and breakfast but the rest of the food is pretty crappy. Save your money unless you go for the 35cent wings. Wonder Woman breakfast is amazing! Love the cinnamon butter!
East Coaster In The West End
+4.5
Great Place. The Algonquin students doing the whining and complaining should go back to McDonalds or Pizza Pizza. This place serves very good food, either breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The bar is a comfortable and friendly place to watch the game, and mingle with other patrons. Bartenders, be it Alex, Amy, Christina, or any of the others, is excellent, and the servers on the floor are fast, but still very courteous and take the time to make you feel welcome. A recent addition of prime rib of beef to the menu is a great deal for the money ($15.00) I recommend this place to anyone who asks. The owner is often site to resolve any questions the staff can't.The full menu from the restaurant side is available at the bar, as well as munchies in the evenings. Their wings have jumped in price .. from 35 cents 10 years ago, to 38 cents. Outrageous :) lol ... BTW, the wings are great.
A bar is a bar. Food is not that good, just a place to have a pint and have fun.
Best breakfast under $10 in the city. Period.
Delicious, cheap breakfast! Go here all the time with friends from Algonquin I would recommend it :)
Good, cheap breakfast. Their breakfast is cheap, delicious, and usually very fast. We love going here for breakfast! We used to go for wings all the time as well, but the past few months the wings have seemed a lot smaller than they used to be, so now we just stick with breakfast.
Good breakfast. Our usual place for a quick cheap breakfast after church on Sundays. The place is usually bustling with the Alonquin crowd, some families, and various people so it makes for good people watching. Their standard Two-Egg Summerhays breakfast is nothing fancy, but it's tasty and satisfying. My favourite is the Wonder Woman that is the standard egg, meat, potatoes breakfast but with the addition of two slices of French toast. They use a baguette type bread for their French toast which makes for a chewier texture which I prefer. It's topped off with a cinnamon butter that makes for a nice combination with the table syrup provided.
Service is generally good and efficient. The restaurant is pretty busy on Sundays so the servers don't fawn over customers. As long as they're efficient and keep the coffee topped up, that's all we ask for. This probably isn't the place to enjoy a gourmet breakfast on a lazy weekend day, but for what it is (good hearty breakfast for people who just stopped in for a quick bite), there are no complaints.
Breakfast and Beverages. It is what it is. They serve a good breakfast and a decent menu for a spot to grab a drink. Good value, decent service, big patio. It's right beside Algonquin, so you know what to expect.
The french toast is a welcome addition
Good Lunch spot. This is a great place for a quick lunch. Their menu selection is great, especially for kids. They have great wraps!
Service is good, food is better than you would expect, and the ambiance is comfortable. Patrons range from university students recovering after a night of drinking, blue collar guys on break, and families of all sorts. This is a place you can bring your elderly parent when you spring them from the old folks home, or, if you must, your screaming, greasy children.
