Hidden gem in Ottawa. Nice small bar with live piano entertainment every Friday and Saturday evenings (8h30 pm to midnight). Very talented pianist with wide repertoire, VJ (the owner) has a magnificent voice. Guests are also invited to come up and sing songs. Overall an amazing and fun place.
We thought a drink at a piano bar would be a fun but quick stop among the many venues we wanted to hit while visiting Ottawa. An hour later, we didn't want to leave. In a world of crowded bars with excessively loud speakers, VJ's is a true gem. The piano player's sound is as smooth as he is charismatic and when VJ, the owner, left his post at the bar to sing for us the experience went from great to magical. It was impossible not to smile as his voice transported us to another era, one much simpler than ours. By the end of the night I was wishing I had been born 50 years sooner. This was a truly memorable experience. I hope to find a piano bar similar to this one closer to home but I doubt I will be able to.
One of my favourite places in Ottawa. My friend and I came here every Thursday night to visit VJ and hang out in a quiet atmosphere with an old style vibe. VJ always has a joke and a smile. Friday nights get quite busy and VJ's got a voice and a half when he takes his turn at the piano.
The sign out front says: Welcome to VJ's Las Vegas Style Piano Bar. It is. Great old songs, a versatile piano player and perfect sound: not too loud and still the music filled the place. From the Rat Pack and Monroe pictures on the walls to the piano bar itself, this is a trip back in time. Get there before 930 pm on the weekend or you may have to stand. When I was in Vegas I did not find a place like this. I'm so happy to have found VJ's in Ottawa. Thank you.
Cozy aand honey atmosphere. Owner VJ keeps nostalgia going with piano nights and karaoke events. All adult ages accommodated. Not for eats, just drinks and popcorn. Quarts beer bottles.
Casual and cosy piano bar playing mostly 50's 60's 70's music. Excellent piano player Friday and Saturdays, huge repertoire. Quirky and definitely interesting owner in his 80's. He is not to everyone's taste but definately a character. Limited food and liquor choices. A blast from the past
From the moment you walk in, there's beautiful music and a fun atmosphere. You'll go back in time to when music made you feel something, and spending time together was about conversation and quality time. Also, VJ is amazing!
