Review 107 Fourth Avenue Wine Bar - Ottawa

Classic really well done food! Very nice atmosphere to grab a drink with a friend or go on a date. Personal favourite is the bacon wrapped dates!

Fabulous little spot just off Bank. Lovely wine list. Great fries. Needs more vegan options. Has some, just not enough.

Loved the wine, service and atmosphere. I ordered the Brussel sprouts and pizza! Brussel sprouts were amazing but the pizza was maybe the worst I’ve ever had!!!

We are so lucky to live within walking distance is this adorable and delicious wine bar. We have date nights here super often because they have endless options for Gluten allergies plus have great wine selections! It’s a great place for a nice date night or get the booth for a nice group of friends!

My wife and I had a great experience here, it’s a nice intimate place to have some wine and some good food. My wife is also a celiac and they had gluten free options which is fantastic. The service was friendly and quick. We will definitely be going back, it was a great choice for a date night.

Great atmosphere and food If you don't like loud environments this is not a good place for you.

Good drinks/basket of bread. Waitress was super friendly & nice!

Menu is not very diverse and for a wine bar, I would have expected suggestions on what type of wine would be recommended with our order. ..didn't happen.... Wasnt too impressed in all.

Very cool little place. Sort of out of the way from the main street so it has a bit of intrigue to it. The decor is cool, with a combination of cozy living room and robots? (you'll see if you go). Plus the music selection was perfect for the mood. The wine list is well rounded with some great cocktails and liquors if you're not big on wine (I recommend the pink lemon spritzer). The menu is comprised of a number of staples as well as other dishes that change depending on available produce. I think the prices of some menu items are a bit high, but I got the charcuterie and it was a great value for the portions and quality. All of that being said, I do find it a bit annoying that they don't seem to have their cafe menu posted anywhere.

Very cute and small place. Good wine menu. I did not have anything to eat so I cannot speak for that experience but the environment and wines are perfect for a night out

Went here for dinner. Ordered a bottle of Malbec. Menu said 2013 but bottle was 2015. Wine was still good though. Waitresses seemed aloof and unengaging. Ordered a charcuterie with two meats and two cheeses. Weren't sure about getting another dish so we're advised to start with the charcuterie. The charcuterie came and was pretty good but not enough pieces of bread. Had some excellent grainy dijon mustard with pickled vegetables. Breads were tasty. Grey goat cheese was phenomenal as was the camembert. Waited for some time for more bread but never came. There was only one other table aside from us so cannot even say that staff were busy. Our plan was to order more food but wait staff never came. We eventually got annoyed and finished charcuterie without bread and downed our wine bottle and decided to go somewhere else for dinner. Waitress came and we asked for our bill. Total shame that the food we had was good but wait staff ruined the experience. Will not return simply for that reason.

I had enjoyed some fine wines a couple of times prior to enjoying my first full meal. The red snapper with subtle lemon pepper flavouring, carmelized fennel on potato pancake was truly luscious. The accompanying salad with fresh fiddlehead and edible flowers was refreshing and exotic. Lovely intimate ambiance.

Fantastic. Great place to grab a glass of wine after a long day

Nice people, nice service and pub-range food. I went there a few times and actually found the place to be warm, friendly and talkative. It's one of the places where I would feel comfortable going there myself.

Overpriced/Drunk Waitress. Food was overpriced. It was good but they are charging way too much for what you get. Also ourselves and our neighbouring table are certain our waitress was drunk. We thought the whole experience was a joke. Not going back.

Really gone downhill. We've been going to the Fourth Ave Wine Bar ever since it opened. We have loved the wine list, the serving staff, the ambiance and the food. However, in the last six months, something has changed. The food has become more expensive, the quality of both the food and the preparation has gone from really great to depressingly mediocre. The Steak and Frites which used to be wonderful in every way was served to us last week poorly prepared, the steak was awful, the frites were soggy, the salad was wilted. Our appetizer, which is the same appetizer we have ordered on many occasions was half the size and twice the price.<br/>Unfortunately, we will not be going back. We will miss the great serving staff and the great wine list but, it seems very clear to me that the owners have stopped caring about providing the wonderful dining experience that used to be.

Food still fine - waiting staff atrocious. Came in for a late, light lunch during the week having had a wonderful experience in past at this place. Not surprisingly, at 2 pm, there was only one other table occupied in the restaurant - so it was quite surprising to us when we waited 10 minutes to receive menus. When we each ordered the same plate, the waitress suggested that it would be better to order a combination plate as it would be less expensive (nice gesture). In my books, that means a combination plate for three people, but when it arrived it was obvious that it was a one-person combination plate - not enought to serve 3 people. So we ordered an additional item. As we were paying our bill, an additional plate of tapas suddenly arrived. We assumed that the restaurant had sent along a complimentary plate, recognizing that there had been some inadvertent confusion (because that's what good restaurants do - right?) But our waitress said that actually, the plate had been meant for another table (e.g. the only other occupied table in the restaurant - go figure) and that the other waiter had made a mistake. On the way out, I made light of this to the other waiter, thinking he'd thought it was funny too. I was flabbergasted when he snapped at me (from his seat at the bar), told me it wasn't funny and that I had LIED to him - because apparently he asked me if we'd ordered the plate and I'd said "yes" (now why would I order a plate after I'd paid??) Wierd. Even wierder that I took the time to write this review (not something I usually do...) but I hate to see a good place go to the dogs just because serving staff can't be bothered to ...ah...serve.

The place is cute and quaint, not on a busy street, different than the rest of typical Ottawa scene. However, food was very blah, bland, not exciting or even tasty. Patio out back is on a parking lot. Again, cute and different but you really don't come here for the food or ambiance. We came here Saturday night hoping for good good, wine and ambiance. We enjoyed the uniqueness of the place but that's pretty much it.

Unique w/ European Twist. I think this is a great addition to the Ottawa bar/restaurant scene. The owner is constantly on the look out for interesting and well priced wines. The food I've had has been imaginative and admittedly, has improved over the years. I'll keep going back.

Great place. This intimate venue is a great place for meeting up with a small group of friends (I was in a party of 7) or for a one-on-one meal. The food was good, the wine was outstanding, and the service was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. <br/><br/>I highly recommend the naan pizza.<br/><br/>The wine prices are reasonable and the selection is great. For $48, we enjoyed a rich 2010 Chianti. I was also surprised and pleased with a Prince Edward County Pinot Noir, at about $43 for the bottle.<br/><br/>I'd happily go back.

Food was Great, wine is unp.... Food was<br/>Great, wine is unparalleled,<br/>And the servers were<br/>Really sweet!

Great atmosphere, really eclectic & unique. Good food & drinks but agree with the rest of the comments. Service was sub par at best; if the service was better this place would be somewhere I would frequent

Only looks good on the surface. I stopped into this place last month hoping to have a nice evening with a friend. On the surface, the place looked good: wine bar in an old house in a trendy neighbourhood. Indeed, upon entering, the place looked inviting with a happening atmosphere. That's where it ended. We were served by a man I'd say in his 40s or so who was incredibly surly. Upon further thought, he seemed like he was trying very hard to be very nonchalant, so much so that he was totally disinterested in our being there as customers. When I had the audacity to ask if they offered flights of wine, he was quite rude and dismissive, made me look like a fool in front of my friend. Another waitstaff person later came to serve during our time there and long periods went by when I wanted to order something but she wasn't interested in serving. I should mention that it was pretty dead that night, so they weren't busy.<br/><br/>I think this place stays in business only by virtue of "one-time" customers; I can't imagine anyone who would go back after the incredibly rude service.

Poor service /poor quality food. Yesterday we were looking for a nice pub with a nice patio in Glebe for dinner, we ended up going to 4th. Avenue Wine Bar & Cafe. What a huge mistake!!!!!! Until I asked to the waitress our table didn't get cleaned. Surrounding was really bad, they didn't even care to make it nice and clean. We were hungry so we got our drinks and ordered bread and oil. 35 minutes later I had to go inside to remind her about the bread. She stopped talking to the guy at the bar and said "it won't take too long"; Well after 35 minutes waiting you just want to hear "I am sorry I forgot, I will bring it over right away. 10 minutes after we finally got the bread (just the bread), but the waitress asked us "didn't you get your oil yet?" and went back inside to bring oil. After waiting that long you're hoping at least fresh warm bread, but no chance getting it. We ordered salad and meatballs so we could share, there were only 3 slices of zuchini and top of them three meatballs on the plate.<br/>When we finished our meal, we were glad that it was over, the waitress I guess heard our conversation that we weren't happy with the service from A to Z, she didn't charge us the bread ($3) lucky us.... But when she was clearing the table she dropped the knife on me, I opened my legs and it fell to the ground. My boyfriend was telling me that how lucky I was, we didn't eat steak. <br/>Over all, we were glad that it wasn't a special occasion for us, otherwise service and the food would have definitely ruined it for us.

Wow I will never try! Cons.... Wow I will never try! <br/>Considering all the reviews I've read,<br/>I'm not even going to consider going and try this place! Don't want to risk paying for bad service!

BAD ATTITUDE. Wow. I just called this place to see if they were open on Mondays at 3pm to make a reservation to meet a client. Here is how the discourse went:<br/><br/>HIM: "WINE BAR" (curtly)<br/>ME: (taken aback) "um...hello?"<br/>HIM: "What's up?" (again curtly)<br/>ME: "Well, I was calling to make a reservation but based on your attitude I guess I won't"<br/>HIM: "Good!" - click (hung up)<br/><br/>You couldn't pay me to go there. And I'll make sure to pass it along.

Amazing hidden gem. Love it. Going back as soon as possible.

I went for the first time a couple of weeks ago in the middle of the afternoon. My friend and I were the only ones there and decided to have a quick lunch and drink. First thing i noticed were bright lights shining directly on the wine bottles behind the bar, resulting in warm glasses of red wine - considerably disappointing since we tried the Barolo. Secondly, the service was mediocre. You would think being the only two customers in the restaurant with two servers would mean they were attentive, but it was hard to get their attention since they were chatting amongst themselves about their weekend. Then when we heard the kitchen bell go off (signalling our food was ready), they didn't even bother to go get it for 10 minutes. Food was fairly tasty, but nothing special. I don't plan on returning.

Great little gem. Had a staff xmas lunch here. Very cozy and cute place. Gets really packed though in the afternoon! The food was very good with creative combinations. I particularly loved the bacon wrapped dates! I made my own version of them and added goat cheese in the middle! So good. Will definitely go back!

Service With An Attitude. This place is small, with quite a limited menu but the main problem is the attitude of the staff. Service is leisurely at best but the real problem comes if you dare to complain. My wife sent back a glass of wine that was "corked". The waitress told her it was fine but she would take it off the bill anyhow. When we went to pay the barman brought it up again and proceeded to lecture her about it.<br/>We have made several visits over the last few years as we live in the area but this will be our last. What ever happened to the concept that, just occasionally, the cutomer might be right?

Just arrived home from my first dining experience at 107 Fourth Avenue Wine Bar and will honestly say that I am impressed! The decor was unique and stimulating while the atmosphere was calm and inviting. The wine list had a good number of options (My companion and I certainly enjoyed the Heba). The menu is a bit smaller than most restaurants but the daily specials added the needed variety. Our wine, appetizer, mains, and desserts arrived in good time and even though there were people waiting at the bar we never felt rushed to finish and leave. Even though the menu isn't "exotic" as some reviewers have mentioned, the food is delicious. I would absolutely go back and the prospect of wine on their patio excites me for the coming summer.

Great Vibe.... This is a simple little "neighbourhood" wine bar with a slight hint of swank ! The whole place is done right...it is warm & cozy, dimly lit with a very intimate mood, so far excellent tunes happenin' every time, superb food until late hours with a board of features that is always creative & yummy, and so far we have had 3 of the most delectable bar/servers ever...with only a slight hint of too slow. Every corner of the city should be so lucky to have a spot like this.

At last a London style wine bar.. Love this place so reminds me of the places I used to hang out in with my sister when we lived in west/north London UK that is! Wine menu small but good selection at reasonable rates. I love all the tapas style dishes. Bacon wrapped dates are out of this world. Pizza tasty too! Yum yum! Patios small but then what do you expect in a capital city. So Highgate so loveleey.

Terrible service. The food is great. Atmosphere is funky. Too bad our server was rude and condescending.

Owner bad for business. The Fourth Avenue Wine Bar has been our "date night" spot for many years but after our experience this past weekend, I am sad to say that we will not be back again. <br/>After telling our server that our steaks were overcooked, the owner approached our table to tell us that he disagreed, he felt our steak was rare and that he "was not in the business of throwing away meat and that we were being fussy." We discussed the matter with him a little more, he repeated that he felt we were "fussy" and then invited us to leave. Unbelievable.
Chris
Arrogant. Have been to this spot several times. The food is very good, and the wine list is good. The difficulty with this place is two fold. First, the seating is incredibly uncomfortable - it's actually a joke now in the neighborhood. If chairs are uncomfortable they are referred to as "almost as bad as at the Fourth Avenue wine bar chairs". The other equally disappointing part of this place is the service and attitude. The service is hit and miss. Sometime brilliant other times you're ignored completely. The arrogance of the owner is very troubling too. Flippant, dismissive and abrasive. This man shouldn't be in the hospitality industry. New chairs and a new owner and this place would be the spot to go to. Now we just wait for a better alternative in the neighborhood.
Friday Drinks
I went back - which I said I'd never do. I posted a negative review about the Fourth Avenue Wine Bar in the past. The review was based mainly on the fact that a wait person followed me out the wine bar and harassed me about what she thought was a too small tip and then told me not to bother to return. And I didn't until Friday night (1March) when a friend and I did return. Again, I promise I will never... This time the service was not great and after having a bottle of wine and three plates of food, it was pretty clear that we were expected to leave. Actually it was very clear. Fine with us. The frites were limp and oily, the dates wrapped in bacon were fine, but the meatballs??? Why had someone in the kitchen dumped some frozen peas and carrots mix on top (you know those tiny cubes of carrots and those small shriveled peas?) and then slapped two pieces of what might have been toasted but might have been stale bread beside some totally tasteless meatballs? So bad food and nasty serve. This time I mean it.<br/><br/><br/>-----25 Aug, 2010-----<br/><br/>Bad experience. I have been going to the Fourth Ave Wine Bar for several years and while I find the food not particularly interesting, the place not very comfortable, it's convenient. Last time the wait person followed me and the friend I was with out the door and complainted that I had not left enough tip. After harassing us for several minutes she suggested that we not return. We won't.

Good food, snobby service. The food was great, lots of by the wine selection (although having sat near the bar I am skeptical about how fast they move the bottles, and therefore how long a bottle is open before it is either used or thrown out)<br/><br/>the server was snobby, didn't seem to know much about the wine on the list beyond little bits like 'the owner likes it' (well I hope the owner likes it or I would wonder why it's on the list.<br/><br/>Absolutely nothing from Prince Edward county
Scott
Glebe wine bar. There are a few items on the menu I enjoy ... the steak sandwich should not be missed. The wine ... great. However, the seating sucks and is dead uncomfortable.<br/><br/>It is a favorite haunt of mine ... but it has declined a little.<br/><br/>The menu and the seating need work
Bars To Go
WORST BAR AND RESTAURANT I'VE EVER BEEN TO.. I found hairs in my drink!! The waitress seemed dead to me, no smiles. always rushing here and there. The bar is tiny, not good for group people to go. Very disappointed with the food. The owner was so rude and didn''t care about our conerns. When we complained the owner didn''t care. We told him that we would not be back and he said "that''s fine!" fine. Of course, all of us will not going back to that place. I found there are so many restaurants in Ottawa, you can find something much better in downtown with much nicer food and service. If you want a good time with friends. Never come to this place. Not worth your time and money. They don''t care about your needs!<br/>PS. Give you tips to those homeless worth your money!

Fantastic atmosphere, very cozy, great place for a warm conversation.

Hopping Little Joint. If you are lucky enough to squeeze yourself into this place on a Friday (or any) night, you will enjoy the great atmosphere of this very cool wine bar.<br/><br/>I highly recommend the bacon-wrapped figs and I have to learn where they get their cheese cake from, wow! I had the 5oz steak frites which was great!

The bacon wrapped dates are fantastic!

Excellent all round. Dropped in for a Sunday lunch. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Will be returning to sample from the extensive wine list and cocktail selection. Diana Krall playing on the stereo, and the decor worked together to make this an excellent spot.
Anusha
... the bar is stacked with a wide price range of wines, the interior is sloppily outfitted and the eclectic mix of patrons makes it difficult for the bar to market the place to any particular taste.

Tonight I had dinner at the Fourth Avenue Wine Bar. I chose this place because I wanted somewhere with a nice atmosphere but not too crazy food choices. I was going with a very good friend of mine who I hadn't seen in two years, who I love to death and
