Review Pho Truc Lien - Ottawa

This is our favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Canada. We’ve never had a bad meal here and love that it’s cozy and not noisy like most places. It’s a family owned business and the owners are very hospitable. I recommend the all day lunch special with beef and vermicelli….while you’re at it be sure to order some extra spring rolls… they’re delicious!!!

This is my absolute favourite pho restaurant! The family that owns it is absolutely some of the nicest and caring people I have even met. Not to mention that the food here is so good! Highly recommend giving this restaurant a try:)

The best pho in Orleans and the kindest business owners I’ve ever encountered. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, whether you’re picking up your order or dining in (pre-pandemic - they unfortunately aren’t offering dine-in service ATM). One of our favourite places in Ottawa.

I was very disappointed with the portions. I ordered pad thai, spring rolls, and Rangoon (crab with cream cheese wonton) The pad Thai came in medium container half filled, with a little noodles- consisted of mostly mushy sprouts and maybe 2 flat pieces of chicken. The wontons were a joke. Very small, barely any stuffing and absolutely no crab. My spouse and I finished and were still hungry after spending 74 dollars on skip the dishes. This will be the last time we order from here.

Was craving some fresh authentic Vietnamese food tonight! Our dinner was not only fresh, but so flavourful and super delicious. Huge shoutout to Pho Truc Lien in Orleans, ON for satisfying my craving and making our meal unforgettable. I will absolutely be back!! Chicken Pad Thai, shrimp salad rolls (rice wrap rolls) with amazing peanut sauce and the vermicelli dish all 5 STARS. Highly recommend if in the area, truly an awesome Vietnamese take out experience!

Always a great experience eating here at Pho Truc Lien, everything taste fresh and the food is very filling, I always get the beef soupe P08, with meat balls, slice of pork, rare beef and slices of beef well done. The broth is so good and it helps me when I'm congested. There's a great selections of authentic Vietnamese dishes and some specialty Thai dishes as well. Go try them out!!!!

This is a nice, quiet restaurant - good for families. It wasn't busy at all when we went on a Thursday night. The service is quite good. I don't think the food was that outstanding, despite all the good reviews. I would suggest ordering pho here instead of the other dishes.

TLDR: If you want to be served a medium pho after paying for and expecting a standard extra large pho like the ones that are served at other vietnamese restaurants in Ottawa, come to Pho Truc Lien. My first and last time here. Just ordered an "extra large" soup for take out and was given about a liter of broth with little meat mixed in, along with a small container of clumpy and crumbling noodles. I ask one of the employees if they made a mistake and if they gave me a small or medium soup instead and he answers no, then points at the top of the styrofoam container and says: when it's extra large we fill it to the top, when it's large we fill it here (pointing 1 centimeter lower) when it's medium we fill it here and so on. Go to other vietnamese restaurants in Ottawa and the difference between extra large and small is a full container of broth, not a couple centimeters of liquid. Same with the meat or the noodles, other places give you extra containers when you order extra meat or noodles. And what's up with the fried wontons? There's barely any filling in them, check out the attached picture.. Paid 50$ for a soup, two orders of spring rolls and some fried wontons (calling these things wontons is a stretch)

Favourite restaurant in Ottawa. I've eaten there or picked up food to take home 25-50 times easily. I've never been disappointed - always bring family and other visitors from out of town. Service is warm and friendly and the pride the owners have in this establishment shows clearly. I will go back again, and again, and again.

My go to pho restaurant in the east end. Great authentic food, good price. Our family has been going many years and have gotten to know the owners well. I'm never disappointed by anything I order. The food always comes in time and with good service.

Very disappointed. Prices are high. 13$ for a small soup. I had a rare beef pho sate and it tasted blend. I took it to go and had no chopsticks in it, no hoisin or hot sauce. Cannot compare to anything from Somerset st.. won't be back.

Not worth the money. The portions were extremely small for such a high price. The noodle soup barely gave you any noodles. The rice dishes consist of more of the "salad" then the rice and meet. When we left the restaurant, we were all only half full and we paid like 60$ for the four of us.
Not coming back here again. I recommend co cham if you are ever near chinatown. Their portions sizes are huge, they are very well priced and they are very good!

Very pleasantly surprised!. Very friendly, I went with a group of friends who are Asian. No negatives. It's a very clean restaurant. I've tried the others around Orleans and this met my expectations.

Veggie Friendly!. This is one of my favourite restaurants to go to. As a vegetarian I'm so happy that they offer a veggie option (tofu) for pretty much every meal choice on the menu! They staff are amazing and the food is a family favourite.

Amazing Place!. I've always been greeted with smile! I've been coming to Pho for a long time now with my family and everytime is better than the last. I've never been disappointed with a meal (their wonton soup is the best thing I have ever put in my mouth)! Everything is always fresh and tea is served (I think that's customary at Thai places, but there's something about their tea that's better haha). Bean/hoisin/soya sauces are available as are chopsticks, soup spoons and forks, at the table.
As another user said, it's very easy to miss the place, especially with the new building they're putting up beside it. I guarantee that if you go, you won't regret it!

I dont like it. This is my first time here so i got the spring rolls. They weren't all that good to begin with but then I ordered the pho and I hated it. The soup is not clear. the beef is not tender at all and the noodles are all broken

Best pho!. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, THIS PLACE! Best pho have ever had. Broth tastes clean and not loaded with msg. The owner comes and makes sure you are taken care of. If you go there well enough she even remembers you order! Also if you want to asked her to change anything with your pho, shes more than willing to do so. It is my go to spot, i dont bother with chinatown. Veggi sping rols are to die for! LOVE them almost as much as the soup, the dipping sauce is so good. Wish I knew what is was, tastes amazing.

Amazing Pho. I have been coming to this restaurant ever since it opened. It was one of the first Pho restaurants in Orleans. The chef uses his family recipes which he brought from Vietnam. The restaurant is family owned and operated. The service is very friendly and you will be greeted with a smile even when they are busy. Everything looks and tastes fresh. A must try!!

I usually order take-out when I eat here, although it is a nice place to sit down and enjoy too. The service is great, and the food is delicious!

Liked the bin. Enjoyed the bin - meat roll and beef. Meat roll was not heavy, and the bowl was well balanced. Loved it, and happy to support such warm and friendly owners.

Terrible Chicken Curry PHO. TERRIBLE Pho - Pho Truc Lien!! Full of chicken fat and skin and mushy sweet potato! yuck!!!

It all starts with the stock!. Pho Truc Lien is almost lost on St-Joseph, easy to miss even when you are looking for it. Sitting across from the Orléans mall , sandwiched between Ruby King's and Hertz. The décor is typical, nothing fancy but it's comfortable, well lit and kid friendly (plexiglass on top of table cloth). Owned and operated by a local family who offer a friendly place (the owner always take a little bit of time to chat with the regulars no matter how busy they get) with good food at very affordable prices. They concentrate on freshness and taste. It starts with their stock and they build most dishes from there.

I personally have three favourite dishes: if I'm particularly hungry I'll go for the build your own rice paper rolls. It comes on a large platter with all the fixings (good portion of grilled beef with peanuts on a bed of vermicelli; carrots, cucumbers; shallots; lettuce; mint). I love to add the spicy red paste for that added zing.

If I want something warm I go for the curry beef soup. The menu says it's spicy but only us Canucks would ever think so ;-). Still, it offers a little heat and you can add fire with the sauces available at each table. It comes in a generous bowl where the beef brisket is plentiful and very tender with a good helping of rice noodle with a couple of thick large slices of carrots, again well balanced with the stock.

My wife and I both love the beef noodle soup (we prefer rice noodle but they do offer egg noodles). Thin slices of beef with a good portion of noodles , shallots, onions, mint on the side), again the stock is what balances everything together. My wife can never get enough of their vegetable spring rolls. Most meals come with a heaping of fresh bean sprouts, a sprig of mint and a lime as well as a pot of tea.

We have been going several times a month for over a year now and only once were we ever disappointed (hey everyone can have an off day). The beef has always been tender, the stock is never salty or fishy, and vegetables fresh. Haute cuisine it isn't but very satisfying and delicious at a very affordable prices. You don't need reservation but it can get busy around 6.

Not wheelchair accessible.
