Review Rabbit Hole - Ottawa

Absolutely loved this place! The vibe is great! Music goes up post 11 and the tracks played are fantastic! We tried about 3 dishes and all of them were fantastic! Pizzas are customizable and are light. Cocktails are made to perfection! Service is good too! Cassandra was a great host! Overall, would defiantly come by here again!

Was seated downstairs and it was lively at 8:30 pm on a Wednesday. Oysters were great but cocktails were hit or miss. Atmosphere was fantastic, great for girls night, friends gathering and dates.

Do yourself a favour and head down [to] the Rabbit Hole as soon as humanly possible. It's a feast for the eyes and the taste buds, and a helluva fun ride for thirsty cocktail-lovers. Check out the details in the furniture and decorations; sip on masterful craft cocktails by swift and friendly bartenders; and don't miss out on their outrageously yummy pizzas served by ultra-cool waitstaff. When you first enter this classy joint, take a moment to be wowed by the fairy-lights ceiling - but don't stare for too long. You'll want to head further down the rabbit hole by descending the subtle staircase to a whole new landing space. And, if you're lucky (or if you're in the know OR one of the fortunate few to get selected) you may just become privy to Ottawa's best kept secret: their hidden basement speakeasy, Jackalope. A night out in Ottawa honestly isn't complete without a Rabbit Hole experience. So, get your Alice in Wonderland on, and head to this magical spot on Sparks Street for a wild ride.

With such a great space to work with, Rabbit Hole certainly did it justice with an awesome atmosphere and vibe. And because of that, I expected a bit more from the food and drink. It's such a shame to set you up for this awesome dining experience, and then to juuuuust miss with the food & drink and service. You can tell the menu was given thought, but the follow-through wasn't 100% For a space that's meant to enjoy crafted cocktails, the cocktail lost was short. Which is fine if the cocktails are phenomenal. They were good, but not short list good. I will say, they did some cool things with aromatics with things like firing up a cinnamon stick, and their bar is stocked well with variety. I was impressed with what they offered and when it came to standard cocktails (as in not 'Rabbit Hole' cocktails), they did deliver. Food, again, was good, but not as good as expected. I'd give an average of 7/10 for taste and quality. The oysters were fresh and good and definitely a highlight. The prime rib burger was the winning main. Pizza is okay. Service as a whole was also just okay. There were certain staff that were amazing, but our server was slow. We were sitting at our table for a bit before we had to flag down staff to ask about service because no one greater us or came to take our drink order. The bar staff had to serve us until our server finally showed up. All in all, I would go back, but only because the space is super cool with lots of awesome hidden corners and coves for intimate dining.

I had very good time at Rabbit Hole yesterday! I’ve been here few times and they have always been accommodating and extremely friendly. Both the steak and pizza were delicious. Especially the steak was cooked and seasoned very well. The drinks were good as well. But what made the experience exquisite was the staffs working there! The two girls, one in charge of the seatings/covid regulation, and the one in charge of serving were so sweet, helpful, and super friendly. And I’m sure it would’ve been swamped for them on the first day patio dining re-opened. I sure hope they get recognized and acknowledged for their work! Thanks for a good night!

I have always heard about this place from friends as a cozy spot to hangout, and I've also noticed the lines each time I've walked down Sparks street in the evenings. So I was excited to finally come here to catch up with a friend from out of town, and experience the cozy lower level dining area. Upon entering you'll notice the high ceilings and twinkling lights on the first floor, which is more brightly lit than the lower floor. However, the lower level is definitely cozier as it's dimmer, and you can choose to sit at the bar (what we did), or at the dining tables. Here are the dishes that were ordered: Red 3 ($20) Pizza with San Marzano Tomato Sauce: With pepperoni, smoked sausage, sundried tomatoes, pepperoncini peppers. This pizza was well made! The crust was nice and puffy and light, and the pizza tasted good overall. Small plates: Smoke Salmon Tartare ($23): quick pickled cucumber, lemon tarragon crème fraiche, everything bagel spice, salmon roe, and crisps. I have never had salmon tartare with smoked salmon, so had to try this! It tasted better than what I was anticipating - the richness of the smoked salmon went really well with the pickled veggies, and I always love having crisps with tartare as I find it lighter than bread. This was definitely the prettiest dish! Probably my favourite out of all 3. Large plates: Shrimp & Waffles ($22): pickled beans, chili lime glaze, jalapeno: the shrimp were the tastiest part of this dish with the chili lime glaze, but I felt the waffles were a tad dry. Some more sauce would have gone well with the dish! The atmosphere is perfect for catching up with friends, or even for a date! The amount of background noise was perfect - not too loud, but enough to keep your conversation private. It was fun to sit at the bar and watch drinks being made too! I would suggest checking up on your order if it takes more time than anticipated - we did, and were told the system lost the order by accident.

The cocktails and pizza were to die for. Each cocktail was better than the last. Bartender was so great. She got part of our order wrong and got us a free drink and fixed it up right away. Vibe 10/10.

Going to the Rabbit Hole last night was such a disappointment. We’re visiting Ottawa and this was one of the first places we added to our “must-visit” list based on the great reviews. We were seated at a very wobbly table and told our server would be with us shortly. No one came to our table or acknowledged us despite it not being busy, and after 25 minutes I had to go to the bar and ask the bartender if we had to order from him. He told us he’d make sure someone came to our table immediately. A server came over—a middle-aged bald gentleman—and he didn’t acknowledge or apologize for the long wait. He took our drink orders and we didn’t see him again for another 15 minutes. He finally came over with our drinks and apologized it took so long, saying it was because I ordered a drink off-menu that they don’t normally make. This was a bald-faced lie as we were sitting next to the bar and saw the drinks being prepared and waiting to be delivered for about 10 minutes prior. We were later approached by another server who said she’d be taking over our table. There was no hand-off or explanation from the male server I’ve come to expect when dining out; he just disappeared and left someone else to do his “dirty work”. He was truly one of the worst servers I’ve ever had. The cocktails were okay and the decor unique, but unfortunately they can’t redeem this place from its inexplicably long waits and rude, disinterested servers. Go to The Apothecary instead—we visited afterward and the difference was night and day.
