Review Patty's Pub - Ottawa

Amanda Gallo
We loved Patty's Pub! Hands down the best French onion soup I've had in a looong time. All the food was delicious, the beer was perfect and the staff was so friendly! Can't wait to make another trip to Ottawa so we can swing by again!

Great simple pub with a great choice on beers. Most importantly, dogs are allowed on the patio! The atmosphere is very no fuss and relaxing. The inside of the bar looks quite antique and one of a kind.

Haven't been here in years and were happy to find our meal was great. Had fish and chips and both were great. Really appreciate fries that aren't frozen. The piece of fish is generous. The server was friendly and attentive. Love the patio for nice days. The decor inside really makes you feel you are in a pub. This is on our list now for go to spots in Ottawa

Joe our waiter was amazing. The staff at the entrance were so nice. The cleanliness was unreal, the food was amazing, from the deep fried pickles and starter poutine to the chicken wings & nachos. A little pricey but so worth it. Was finger licking good. We'll be back. Thanks for a great 1st experience.

A quiet neighborhood gem. Patty's pub has two sides: a perfect patio, shaded but next to busy Bank Street, where you can watch the world bustle by while enjoying some amazing local beers. (Ashton Brewing is my favorite!) And the other side is the warm, cozy pub, with a big stone fireplace and hardwood floors. Great for summer or winter, always good service, good people, and good food. Enjoy

Great place! I've been coming here on occasion since university. The guys I go with always love the wings, but I usually try other things on the menu. And I haven't been disappointed in the food yet! The fries are great (almost chip-truck style), as is the Shepherd's Pie. The CBC sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had, and you also can't go wrong with a Boxty! You definitely won't be disappointed with the food, but this is probably not a place you will go for the ambiance. The tables are EXTREMELY sticky, some tables have a fan in front of lights that creates a strobe-light effect, and much of the decor has gotten pretty beaten up over the years. We recently went with my 5-year-old nephew, and he entertained himself for about 20 minutes by sticking stuff to the tabletop and then laughing hysterically as he struggled to peel it back off. If you're looking for a place with delicious food and a pretty good beer selection in a traditional "old school dive pub" setting, look no further! If you are picky about your surroundings and ambiance, then maybe this is not the place for you (or try the patio, which is much nicer-looking than the interior).

Very nice place for a beer and a snack Nice welcoming people

A gem of Old Ottawa South. This pub is a great spot and gives an authentic, rustic atmosphere inside. They have some of the best beer I've tasted in Ottawa (the Ashton blueberry or amber are my recommendations). Food is also really good and the service is pretty quick. It's a little away from the action of centretown, but worth the trip down Bank.

Great pub style food at good prices. Good atmosphere and not too loud. Love their sandwich menu. We have booked tables for 6+ people on multiple occasions and had great service every time.

1/2 price wings over priced. $14 for 18 scrawny wings. $0.78 per wing is outrageous. The taste was OK but way overpriced. Can't believe anybody sober would pay regular price.

Food was good over all although not much of a selection for dessert. The waiting staff are rude and slow. All I would say is next time I go out for a bear, il go to Belmont or George Town before Patty's Pub.

Came here for drinks the other day. Sat on the patio, and it started to rain, obviously nobody's fault, so we decided to move indoors. Our server then came and asked us to move to a much more cramped spot, because it was easier for her. She asked if we wanted food at one point, and I said "Not just yet" and she decided to take away the menu entirely.

Another table had left, and she then asked us to move to that other table, which was even more cramped, because it would be easier for her. We just got our bills and left instead.

Overall, I wasn't terribly impressed with the service. I cannot speak to the quality of their food, but I wouldn't bother going back based on that experience alone.

Under Average Experience. We sat down on the patio on a Wednesday afternoon, it was pretty dead and an older aged crowd. We were already convinced on leaving; the staff wasn't so keen on serving us with a smile it seemed like (unless we were regulars). We decided to order one drink and then take a walk down the street to another bar. My friend and I order caesars thinking how could these go wrong? They were extremely flavourless, with no effort it was literally vodka and heinz tomato juice for a price of $7 and the size of a juice box. Would not suggest this or return.

Delicious food.... Kudos to the kitchen for great food. I visited last Friday with 5 of my coworkers they also mentioned that we should come back.
Also our server was great ..very attentive to our needs.
Great Job !

Decent food, grouchy waitress!. Immediately upon walking into Patty's Pub, we were 'greeted' by a middle-aged, frumpy woman who could only be described as having an unfriendly demeanor. Without as much as a smile or a hello, she sighed while asking, "How many?" before bringing us to our table and slapping down the menus. Quickly returning, she asked what we would like to drink, and visibly rolled her eyes when my girlfriend ordered a pop.

We quickly ordered our food, which came in a reasonable time frame and was pretty good (club/poutine and fish & chips), but were not checked on once and had to go to the bar to get another drink. Shockingly, the waitress was again sitting down and made it seem I asked for a kidney when I politely asked if I could get some more water. The waitress then only returned to hurriedly give us our bill and mumble, "cheers" as she received payment.

I feel badly giving it two stars, but we felt really unwelcome from the beginning, and it was not an experience I would recommend to anyone. Hopefully this was just a bad day as opposed to the norm!

So many beers!. This authentic Irish pub boasts 26 beers on tap and the full selection of beers by the Ashton Brewing Company. Their Pub Grub is delicious and filling and the staff is friendly. Always a good time here.

Great pub. Simply put, this is what a pub is supposed to be.

Oh hello, shepherd's pie. Great beer, good service (for the most part). I mainly wanted to post to give a shout out to their shepherd's pie. That dish is delish.

Fantastic Experience...recommend for sure. Having lived and grown up in Ottawa I finally managed to make to Patty's a few weeks back. Being a pub I wasn't expecting much, but I was actually surprised. The food was great, the staff were really friendly and helpful and the beer selection was awesome. I tried a pint of the Ashton Amber Ale and for a locally brewed beer it was pretty good.

Would recommend to those who are up for some good pub food, a relaxed time and of course looking for a good range of beers!!!

Wow, never would have expected such a terrible experience, this was my second time here in two years and Jake was utterly disrespectful I wouldn't have believed it, all of a sudden he accused our party of five of bringing In kids to the bar and said we did it all the time I have no idea where this came from; we picked up my eight year child but had no idea he was not allowed and he totally disrespected us, we thought it was a restaurant, and accused us of bringing kids here all the time! None of us had any idea what he was talking about, finally he said maybe I jumped the gun but not before giving us 4 adults trouble for 10 minutes, and none of us even knew what he was talking about, then proceeded to say he got a call from management, when we asked to talk to management he said management was not here but got a call, so not even sure what that means but as 4 adults over 45 stopping to have a beer with an 8 year old and nobody saying anything till Jake storms us and tells us how bad we are again was very unprofessional and this establishment should be ashamed of it behavior, I might expect behavior like this dealing with teenagers but wow we were 4 people having a beer stopping I. This pub for the first time in many years, was a scene out of the twilight zone. Will NEVER go back
Lolo
Ugh the service is abysmal, but will always return for the ABC.

Great Fish and Chips. The wife took me hear for my birthday back in March. We both got the fish and chips, and I tried three of the ABC beers. The beers were not spectacular, but far better than junk macro beers.

Service was very fast, and our waitress was very friendly and told us the history of the pub.

The fish and Chips were very good however, both my wife and I really enjoyed them. The price was just right also, we would both definitely go back.

Good Pub Vibe. When I am at a loss for a meal out I often end up at Patty's. I don't go to other pubs so have no point of comparison but I love the neighbourhood vibe of this cozy establishment. The fish and chips are good and, for people like me who don't drink beer, the wine selection is decent. Recently, they changed the menu. Try one of the boxties -a traditional Irish potato pancake stuffed with a choice of vegetables or meat. Very tasty.

Boxty!. I had a boxty for the first time here! I split a vegetarian with a friend; delicious! It wasn't too busy and the waitress was very quick! Lovely service. :)

Pulled pork sandwich. The food hits the spot and the staff is excellent. Period. Today they had a sandwich they were presumably testing for their upcoming new menu; the pulled pork sandwich. This item NEEDS to on the menu or a weekly special at the very least. Not being a fan of pulled pork at other establishments i was very surprised with the quality of the new bread(Art Is In) as well as the flavor of the pork (this is not the typical bbq sauce sandwich). It was delicious. If everything is near as good,I look forward to making Patty's Pub's new menu a staple at lunchtime on both week days and weekends.

Great beers! ABC. Its worth going just for the ABC beers...and the wings are good. And nice to not have to pay Hintoburg prices for a pint of beer.
Just a great pub to chill and have a few good pints and relax.

Very unwelcoming service. The atmosphere, food, and beer were all average, but a seriously negative waitress did nothing to help. I might have returned, if not for that poor experience. I've heard others mention it, and some other reviewers on here seem to attest to this as well. The owner needs to address this problem in a big way!

[Update Feb. 2014: Another visit, this time with far better, friendlier service; however, the wings were completely unremarkable, and a little light for a "pound". Walk down the street to Georgetown or Quinn's if you're looking for a fine wing night.]

Patty's Pub is my favourite restaurant in the city. Extremely friendly staff, especially Brandi, the night bartender. She always greets us with a friendly smile and greeting. I've been there so often that she knows exactly what I want and I don't even have to tell her. The wings are always superb. The Honey-Hot is the best I've had in the city. I reccommend Patty's to all my friends, and to anyone in the city who wants a nice friendly atmosphere and excellent food.

It's a pub, and old one too. Wend her specifically for the Welsh rarebit. pretty good. Hint of Keens mustard in the cheese sauce

Food is pretty good and local beers too.

Good Friday... Quiet afternoon at the pub. Has the fisherman's platter: good seafood but the roasted potatoes tasted like they were left over from breakfast. Friend's had peppercorn steak which was very good. Average food, average atmosphere...

I have been coming to Patty's for a few years now. I have been in all sorts of pubs all over and this is still one of my favorite pubs. Good food, good service, of course great beer. Only better pub I've been to are those in Ireland.

Very Delightful!. The wings are very good! Highly recommend them! They are very saucy and are cooked to perfection. Waitresses are very friendly and provide you with service you cant complain about. Prices are reasonable and Monday-Wednesday after 5 wings are half price, which is a steal of a deal. Although you need to buy a drink with your wings to get them half price, what's better than washing down AMAZING wings with a price cold beer.
Will return many many many more times!

Disappointing. My first time there Saturday near 6PM. Atmosphere is top notch for a pub. Service was mediocre to poor. Wife's salad dis not come with dressing. Had to chase the waitress down to get it. Her food was average. I ordered fish and chips - a supposed favourite. Fish/batter mediocre at best. Cold french fries. Waitress never came back to ask how things were. Kid's meal was rather small and my daughter had to eat off of my plate. Being this pub is not local to my home, there are better places to spend my money on diner. The service and food did not warrant the 10 minute wait to be seated. I do not understand why the place was so full.

Doesn't Like. Food is decent and large selection of beers but very rude staff. Used to live by this pub and staff from this pub were very inconsiderate and rude to surrounding community

Such a contradiction. This pub is such a contradiction. It has the potential to become the best pub in Ottawa (if not the country). All the elements are in place. Awesome, atmosphere, great staff (mostly), and good food. The only stick in the ointment is a single toxic personality in the guise of a server, who seems intent on destroying all of that and ensuring that you never come back. She's a bit older than the other servers (who are all excellent), but this is not about age. Irene's up the road seems like an older crowd of patrons and servers, but they are awesome...but I digress, this not about Irene's, I just wanted to show that the contradiction at Patty's boils down to one personality. It's a real pity, because everything and everyone else there is out of this world.

Call me a snob, but the bench I was sitting on felt like it was going to give way any moment. The fish n chips were adequate, but the gravy was too watery for tastes.

Not impressed! Possibly the worst chicken sandwhich I've ever eaten. Very confused by the other positive reviews.

It's been way too long since I've been in BUT they used to make the best fries and gravy in town. I know that sounds simple but it was REALLY good!

Best wings in ottawa. hands down. late night menu too.

Love their French onion soup!

When they say PUB they mean PUB. This is a very enjoyable irish pub, with food and bar. I particularly like the nachos, and french onion soup. Thier menu isn't the easiest to read though. And during Major sports events they have a projector screen they pull down, a great spot to see THE GAME.

Patty’s Pub is dark, cosy, and family friendly. Prices are reasonable, the menu has great selection, and the bar features a different beer each month. When it’s not busy, I find the food difficult to beat (especially when it comes to the fish and chips). Unfortunately, we chose to get in line this particular visit, therefore contributing to the overall mediocrity of the night for myself and for everyone around us. Just let me say, if you were dining there that evening, please accept my sincerest apologies.
