Review Lapointe Fish - Ottawa

CanadianCEO
The sushi at Lapointe easily rivals the best in the city, with two fantastically talented Japanese chefs preparing Sushi. When I picked up my take out order I immediately remarked that it looked like a work of art! The quality of the fish and the presentation is world class, highly recommended!

The food was so delicious. I had the chefs special with three different seafood. They substituted my potatoes for extra vegetables and it was so good! Also got the shrimp cocktail. The sauce was perfectly spicy and the shrimp were large.

We had Lapointe Pasta and wowza!! It was very delicious. A little oily but very good. Had tiger shrimp, chicken, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, and linguini in an Alfredo sauce. It was supposed to have mussels too but we didn't get any. That's OK, it was still very good. This was the portion size and it stuffed my partner and I!! So glad we only got one dish but hey leftovers would be good too 😋

Good place to eat fish , excellent costumer service , will come back for sure

Awesome! We've been looking for a decent sushi place since my wife was diagnosed with Celiac disease. She hasn't had decent sushi in years, and especially missed tempura. We weren't expecting much when we went to Lapointe's, and were delightfully surprised. We both got our fill of some amazing sushi - some of the best ever. The service was excellent, and the pricing good. We will definitely be back

I'm a regular here for sushi takeout. I wish the sushi menu was bigger/had more salmon roll options, but I have very little else to complain about. It always tastes fresh, and they never miss. Highly recommend the unagi rolls if you like eel. Will continue to be my go-to sushi takeout.

Daughter loved the fresh Sushi, son enjoyed the grilled trout, wife loved the blackened halibut, and I enjoyed the wonderful blackened salmon. Crispy calamari and Tempura tiger shrimp for appetizers were great as well. Would go again!

Simplified version: Understaffed (2 waitresses/one cook in the kitchen), My mom got her meal first, had to wait 20 minutes to get mine, Owner blames YOU (Apparently if you want to eat together bc they're understaffed you need to call in ahead saying exactly what you want to eat before you come in) Not a good experience at all. This place is completely understaffed. Going in all you see is waitresses (2) frantically running around, very stressed out. I had dinner with my mother and she got her meal first, 20 minutes I had to wait until I was served mine. She was finished her meal before I even got to mine. I asked the waitress why it took so long and she told us they only have ONE person working in the kitchen. Walking out the owner came towards us and asked if we liked everything ok. I replied that they're understaffed and I got my meal extremely late. His response was to call in next time and tell them what you want to eat before you come in so they can prepare it in time so we could eat together. The owner obviously doesn't care enough for his staff and customers to hire more people. It is not the staffs fault. I really cannot suggest going to this place. Please do not support an owner like this.

Before I go too far into this review, our server was very good! She deserves 5 stars! Unfortunately we did not feel the same way about the food. Salt and pepper shakers are always on the table but you should never really need to use them! Our food was so under seasoned we were unable to finish, even after unloading a bunch onto the food ourselves. I’m not a salt lover by any means but this was by far the blandest food we have ever had! Deeply disturbed that meal cost $87.

Great food and the best service! Love the calamari and the chefs specials are always well thought out and interesting!

Wonderful venue for a retirement party. Attentive, professional and caring service by Lisa, Heather and staff. Great food and atmosphere made the evening a memorable one for all who attended. Thank you!!!

Fabulous meal ... enjoyed the escargot, pescatore, and the rainbow trout. Just fantastic!!

Lunch oyster deal, F&C and sushi were excellent! Loved it.

Really I would recommend fish lovers to give this place a try.

Delicious food cooked to perfection. Will definitely return!

Absolutely loved the maple glazed salmon. Great service, relaxed atmosphere, would certainly visit again.

It was absolutely delicious, we certainly plan on going back. And the people there are so friendly.

Nice restaurant, good atmosphere. The food was good. They focus mostly on fish, the seafood entree options were quite limited. I would definitely return but not if I was looking to eat seafood.

This is my new favourite restaurant. Service was top notch, everyone is very friendly and our server was attentive. The ambiance is great and I love the salt water tank they’ve incorporated into to the decor. I had Rainbow Roll sushi as an appetizer and, as a regular sushi eater, I can honestly say it is the BEST sushi I have ever had. Definitely a must if you like sushi! I had the “Catch of the day” as my main meal. It consisted of a tomato basil pasta with feta and spinach topped with a grilled salmon. It was absolutely delicious! My overall experience was definitely 5* and I will definitely be driving back from Rockland to visit regularly. It is worth the 45min+ drive!

I went with there with 3 others. I ordered a seafood appetizer platter, which wasn't a ton of food but was quite expensive. I had to specifically ask for extra crostinis because they only provided 2 or 3, which for the amount of dips & spreads that the platter contained, was nowhere close to enough. Service was slow, and not great.

The other 3 people got fish & chips. They found it less than fresh, and all 3 of them ended up sick later that night. I was the only one who didn't end up ill.

Wouldn't go back. Not worth being sick.

Terrible Meal!!!. My Husband and I went for fish and chips , requesting halibut. The fish was not flaky but very soft and mushy and the whole meal was greasy. The fish definitely wasn't fresh. Not sure what has changed but have been twice in the last year and very disappointed. Went a couple times the first year it opened and it was good. Too bad because it is quite convenient for us. The restaurant should check out fish and chips at Merivale fish market and they will see what it is supposed to taste and look like.

Poorly managed. Found a $10 off $40 coupon for Lapointes in a super saver book so thought we'd give it a try. The food and service was excellent but when we went to pay the server said she was unable to accept the coupon because it was expired and that she didn't want to have to pay out of pocket for taking an expired coupon (by 2 days). If you are going to put out a coupon to draw in customers isn't it the absolute least you can do to honour it even if it is a couple days expired. We hadn't realized that it was expired and went in solely because of it. Also, to make your servers pay out of pocket for trying to give service? The food was good but clearly they have internal issues going on at Lapointes. Will not be returning.

Think Twice. My wife and I decided to go out for dinner last night and we were rather looking forward to a Lapointes seafood dinner. Lapointe Seafood Grill in Bells Corners used to be a fantastic little place. Not anymore. We were very disappointed.

I will give them credit for the calamari appetizer. Tasty and well cooked but it stops there. My grill Steelhead Trout was way overcooked, probably from sitting under the heat lamp for too long because my mashed potatoes and spinach were dry and crusty on the outside. My wife ordered the Moroccan Seared Scallops. She couldn't eat it. This shouldn't be on the menu. Terrible taste.

Overall experience, service - average, food - much better restaurant in town to eat seafood, price - way too expensive for the quality of the dishes, wine - VERY limited wine list.

Sad to say we both couldn't wait to leave. It was be a waste of time and money. Next time we will be back to Cyranos in Bells Corners. Amazing place compare to Lapointe.

Don't go for daily specials. My husband & I had dinner here and ordered the special, coconut panko fish and chips supposedly haddock. It was over cooked, dry and tasteless. The waitress came by to see how our meal was and seemed to address my husband only. I could not get her attention. When she returned I commented on the meal and suggested they remove it from the menu. She then presented the bill which she had taken $5 off. When we questioned this she removed my meal price from the bill. Big mistake! They should have apologized and gotten rid of the bill. I won't be returning.

Pretty good and retail fish is great. We tried for the first time recently; the decor was nice, the staff was friendly, and the food was very good in our opinion. And to add some context, we eat A LOT of fish so feel we are pretty good judges of what's a good fish meal or not.

We also regularly buy retail fish from here as it's much better than the grocery store stuff.

Best sushi, fish and chips and more. The service is great and a nice atmosphere. Very busy though!!!

Moved down the road, still good. I go regularly for fish and chips at lunch. Love the thinly battered haddock. Good service.

Bigger is not necessarily better. Lapointe's in Bells Corners was always an excellent small restaurant and fish reseller and my wife and I have visited it many times. This weekend we rang them and reserved a table. We drove to the address that is on their web page only to find that they are no longer their. A telephone call to the restaurant elicited the fact that they had moved to a different location and we drove their. The new location turned out to be the old West End restaurant in the Stafford centre and they no longer have the fish market. The assigned waitress (Lisa) was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. She took our drinks order whilst we perused the menu. My wife decided upon a starter of Oysters followed by a bowl of mussels and I seafood soup with fish and chips for the main course. After about 10 minutes my soup arrived but no oysters. Another 10 minutes and a bowl of Mussels arrived but by a different waitress. I pointed out the mistake and it was taken away. Another 10 minutes and the oysters appeared but I had finished the soup. The oysters were pretty small and only 6 of them. They were good. Meanwhile the fish and chips arrived and some time later the mussels. The mussels were also very good but the wine sauce had far too much garlic. In fact there were large chunks of garlic in it, which should have been removed before serving.
I think the food is fairly good but not up to the standard that it was when they were in the old location. In the old location they could only seat 30 or so people and now they can seat 100. To achieve this the tables are pretty close together and there is not much room on the tables. Decor is dark with dark tables, no tablecloths and paper serviettes.
I found the food to be very bland and too much garlic. Their famed fish and chips could have been a lot better. Pricing is high for drinks and a glass of wine is about $10. Beer runs at $6.50 a glass.
A big disappointment and one more restaurant that we will not be going to again!

Great food!. My wife and I decided to try to new Lapointe's in Bells Corners. The decor is beautiful and very cozy. We had the grilled salmon which was cooked to perfection. Our server Sarah Anne was fantastic and very friendly. We will return.

The food portions suck. My son and I decided to go to Lapointes for dinner and we were rather looking forward to a Lapointes dinner...boy were we dissapointed...we order escargo and the platters of three types of fish...ok first..the escargo were fine the butter was watered down and there wasnet much garlic ( this is not the same escargo we were served in kanata a few weeks before which was awsome) second the portion of fries was so small that a small child could have eaten the whole portion..third...the lemon slice was actually bigger then the portion of colesale ..sad to say we both couldnt wait to leave...needless to say we wont be going to the new place, it would be a waste of my time and money.

Smaller portions. The fish portions is getting smaller and smaller and they should change their oil more often. The servers are fine but not to professional looking and are quite loud. I hope the new atmosphere but turn the young adults into professional people. Ask people if they want dill tartar sauce .

Yuck - McFish. This place has gone downhill since the new ownership took over, seems like all the regular staff members are either gone or overstressed with how ownership treats their staff from years ago. I rather have a fish burger at Mcdonalds then eat at this crap of a restaurant. They raise their prices and reduce their portions. Typical for a new ownership, one way for a quick exit out of Bells Corners.

5 Star Dinner for Five !. My Mom, Sister, daughter & girlfriend went to Lapointe's in Bells Corners last night to celebrate 2 Birthdays. What a refreshing, wonderful experience ! I am a Sous Chef & am constantly dissapointed when I actually go out to dine.

Our server, Lisa was excellent. She seemed to genuinely enjoy her job & was very knowledgeable, efficient & friendly to us all.

The food overall which included Loster, fish, shrimp & escargot was quite simply perfect. Even the fries were home made, large cut & cooked very well.

I would highly recomend anyone who likes seafood to visit them....you won't be dissapointed. Especially if you get "Lisa" as your server!

To say this is the best fish & chips I've ever eaten would not be doing it justice. The pickeral special this evening, with an ale and chipotle batter has put every other fish & chips I've ever eaten to shame. It brought tears to my eyes. Please do yourself a favor & eat here. We started with a pound of fresh PEI mussels in a curry mango sauce with leaks which also was to die for. We will return some Monday for the all you can eat mussels!

WHAT HAPPENED?!?. Our family, who has frequented this restaurant for YEARS, dined there last night. We hadn't been in a couple of months (a really long stretch for us), and thus, did not know of what was awaiting. What a disappointment! We will not be returning.
Changes to the menu include a 25% cost increase to all the items - with the exception of the fish and chips. Although there was no cost increase to the fish and chips, the portion size has been reduced by half. All other portion sizes have also been reduced.
$29.00 for a half litre of Californian white wine? Really?!
The service was indifferent and slow, even though there were only 2 other tables occupied.
We have never seen the place so empty - apparently we aren't the first to notice the changes.
The waitresses stood gossiping while countless take-away customers stood waiting for their orders - they too were mostly ignored.
It's all very sad, as Lapointe Seafood Grill in Bells Corners used to be a fantastic little place. Not anymore.

Not what I hoped for. My son and I ate at Lapointe in Orleans on Friday night. While the food was acceptable, it was only average. My son had mussels which were bland and lacked zip. I had the grilled scallops and shrimp and the fish was nicely cooked, but the sauce was a bit overpowering and too sweet. Overall, I left a bit disappointed, having hoped for more.
Sven
What happened to the chowder. Change the chowder recipe? Don't like it. Fish and chips still good. Don't screw with that.

Can be very busy on Friday. I tried to go for dinner one Friday, on short notice. I called ahead, about an hour. When I got there, the layout is such that you can't talk to the hostess, so calling ahead was of no benefit, I still had to wait as if I'd just walked in on impulse.
Churchchef
An average restaurant. By far not the best seafood restaurant in Ottawa.
The prices are high for an average quality. Much better downtown or at Red lobster

Real cod and chips. Several years ago, the fish and chips were terrific but the number of tables were small. Now they've expanded and the fish and chips is still as good as ever. They continue to do takeout as well.
