Review Lapointe Seafood Grill Kanata - Ottawa

Its easy to ignore this restaurant because it is sort of hidden. But it’s a great restaurant in Kanata neighborhood not far from high tech area. Old-fashioned interior decoration and you get a nice, quiet view outside. Fish is fresh and price is super friendly. I tried fish and chips and fish burger and they are both of excellent quality. Will definitely come again.

This place is a hidden gem of the area. Service is fast, food is great and over the years Lapointe has became a go to place for a great lunch with coworkers or visitors on town. The tuna Burger is definitely my favorite item on the menu. I strongly régimes the place.

Food and service were great! Had a very east coast feel to it. Will be back again soon!

My husband and I took my father-in-law here for dinner recently and we really enjoyed it. Everything was flavourful, and my only complaint is that the food was a tad too oily for my tastes. My rating is 5 stars. We started with the pork satay ($8.50), which was 4 skewers of lean pork with a sweet honey chili dipping sauce.

We went here with friends. The parking can be a little tight, but the stop was well worth it. We had fish and chips while the other two picked shrimps and another fish dish. All were excellent, generous portions and reasonably priced. Nice and hot and delicious. The waiter was very friendly and we did not have long to wait. It was a very pleasant evening and praise to the chef.

We went on a Monday for the mussel special (all you can eat 17.99 or 1 pound for 10.99.) We had the spicy tomato sauce (delicious!) but there were also four other sauces to choose from. The service was great and there are different specials for each day of the week. Will definitely be going back and highly recommend.

We waited an hour and 40 minutes for our meals (4 of us). All items were cool except the fish sandwich and one order of sweet potato fries. They did discount our meal and apologize. ..however we should have been refused at the door as the kitchen were going through some tough times. It was a disappointment for us and the restaurant was stressed. Not pleasent.

Great food, friendly staff. I had the fish tacos. One of the only places that will do blackened rather than battered with a choice of fish. Tuesdays are 25% off. Taco taco taco. Great choice of booze and a cozy outdoor dining area make this a great Kanata lunch option. Fast service !

First time and not the last. Great food, amazing service and affordable platters. A little place worth discovering and trying out.

What a disappointment.
We have been a regular customer for years and this visit has turned us off.
They have chopped the menu down to a bare minimum. Halibut is no longer on the menu but they will prepare it on request.
I requested a grilled halibut dinner. It was a small portion of overcooked (dry) fish with a scoop of rice and a tiny cup of coleslaw. I asked what had happened to the wonderful dinner plates they previously had with veggies and spinach and was told I could have asked for that at an additional price.
The great dinner rolls are gone and replaced with a cheap bun.
My wife's Fish and Chips were uninspired. The formally great battered fish has become boring.
They were under staffed. Our poor waitress was the hostess and the waitress in an almost full restaurant. She did a great job keeping things moving forward.
This is truly unfortunate, we loved this place but now its off our list.

Decent food but an incredibly rude manager. Even though we'd called ahead twice to confirm we could reserve a table in the bar area, with its tapas menu, the manager informed us no such reservations were ever allowed....and even implied we were lying about anyone accepting such a request on the phone. "You'll have to sit at the bar." But my mother is 89; she can't sit on a high bar stool. And she loves your tapas menu. Why can't we simply order from it at the dining-room table you've reserved for us? Just this time?

"No that's not allowed. Maybe these people could give you their table in the bar." The manager said this within earshot of them. And, over our objections (but not the manager's,) they did indeed relinquish the table and move to the bar, bless them.

The kicker: my mom is a regular here, or was before this, and a waitress who recognised her whispered apologies as we left. We never heard again from the manager.

Food was just a-ok.
Their website says they have 10% off all food on Wednesdays, but when I was paying for the bill they rejected the 10% discount saying that the website was out of date.
Their website says "2016" on the corner and outdated.. yeah..
Will not come back to this place. Be aware that the promotions on their website *might be fake*.

Dinner was great as always especially on The bar side where you can enjoy tapas! Service is great and waitresses are very helpful! You can always enjoy your favourite fish any way you want.
Service from the waitress!. Recently we dined at Lapointe's in Kanata and enjoyed the food. Our problem was with the service. My husband ordered chowder for a starter and my meal came with a salad. He received his chowder soon but there was no sign of my salad. About 15 minutes later I finally asked our waitress if I would be getting my salad, she said it came on my plate with my meal ( I had ordered stew). A different waitress had long before removed my husband's chowder bowl. Finally she arrived with my salad, and I had about 2 bites when our meals arrived. My stew was in a large bowl which was lovely but there is no possible way that any salad could have been served in this bowl with my stew. The waitress had screwed up big time, but never admitted she was wrong and I didn't want to make a fuss with so many tables crowded so close to us. Is it too much to expect, when we pay plenty to eat out in a restaurant, that we receive our starters together, instead of 15 or 20 minutes apart. Disappointing service for sure!

Always Great!. Love the food and selection here. Everytime we go it's very good. The waitress even remembered us from the last time we were there and was super friendly. Although the décor could use a facelift, I don't care, as long as the food stays good! We tried the new Bells Corners location and hated it. Kanata FTW!

Great. Fish is good quality for restaurant standards. Wasn't poor quality fish that had been frozen for weeks on end. I was not super impressed with their lobster. It was pricey and nothing out of the ordinary. Boiled and served with butter. Beer on tap was good as well!

This places blows red lobster out of the water.

This place has gone down hill. We had been here many times and enjoyed it. I've the course of the last year. Our last two visits were terrible. Incredibly slow. The food was greasy. The quality and attention to detail has definitely taken a
Back seat. It's too bad.

A Disappointing Franchise. Since Lapointe's franchised their restaurant business, franchisees have taken a good product and made it worse. Having been to the Bells Corner operation for many years, my wife and I decided to try out the Kanata venue and were severely disappointed. The girl that showed us to our reserved table beside the toilet was quite upset when we requested to be moved elsewhere. We were shown to a cramped table further away. Our waitress was very pleasant and apologized for the extended delay in waiting to take our orders. My wife wanted to have oysters but decided against it when she was told that the price was $3.25 per oyster. Funny really because just the other day we had the same Oysters (from PEI) in a restaurant in Lambertville New Jersey at $1 each. I chose to have grilled Halibut and fries. The halibut was extremely small and the fries were soggy. My wife had the same halibut but with a salad and the salad took up most of the small plate. Looking at other diners plates and one could see they were receiving much the same. It seems that a number of restaurants seem to have the attitude that they must make as much money as possible without giving a great deal of value to their patrons. Regrettably we will not be going to any other of the Lapointe's restaurants as they are probably the same as Kanata and Bells Corners.
By the way, the Bells Corner franchise does not belong to the same owner as Kanata.

Best Seafood Lasagna. My boyfriend and I went to Lapointe's and had such a great experience the wait was a little long but it was completely worth the wait because the crab cakes and Seafood Lasagna were amazing.

I'M GETTING A PEN. GEEZ.. We were really looking forward to a big seafood dinner and decided to try Lapointe Seafood Grill.

We were so disappointed.

The hostess was very rude. So rude in fact that it became comical and we laughed about it all the way home, because what else could we do? She rolled her eyes at us, told us to "JUST WAIT. I'M GETTING A PEN." when my husband came in behind us and so foolishly also told her he was there for a reservation. Then she had us wait in the middle of the restaurant (party of 7 WITH a reservation) and then another waitress told us to move out of the way because people were trying to carry food. We just wanted to be seated and were trying to stay out of the way.

We waited an hour an a half for our food and when we asked if there were many more orders before us, she said, "Well there are SEVEN of you. It takes a long time to do the orders!"

Yes there were 7 of us, but three were children with children's orders of fish and chips. Nothing complicated.

Our waitress herself was quite good and was clearly trying to make the best of a bad situation. She told us that the kitchen was short staffed about an hour in, but that is information I would have liked to have when we arrived so that we could have made a different decision about where to eat.

The food arrived and it was just okay. It tasted like prefrozen, deep fried seafood. It came with a side of white, dry Walmart-style "baby carrots". Honestly, we could have gotten the very same meal at Joey's Only. Sorry.

I won't go back. It was really ridiculous.

Friday night dinner was amazing. Lots of gluten free options, huge menu, great chowder and delicious mains. Tried it all. Local beers on tap. Highly recommend! Also fantastic service.

Good food, but service was horrible. They ran out of buns, and one person at our table was given a starter before the rest of the tables food was even ordered. Getting the food took well over an hour. I will give them the benefit of a doubt this time because of how good the food is, but if the service isn't better next time then I won't be back.

Fresh fresh fresh. I love their fish n' chips (how could you not?!). A great lunch stop (not a very romantic dinner outing). But they need to improve on the salad side of things. Some people can't stand the smell in there but what do you expect, it's a FISH store!!!!

The food is excellent, fresh fish and delicious clam chowder. Great service.

Never disappointed. Been there 5-6 times and never disappointed. Quality food and service. Our favourite is the halibut and sweet potato fries. Highly recommended.

I have been to Lapointe's on a normal family outing with the grandparents included and the service was great, we had a bilingual waitress. The food is absolutely somptuous!! I had ordered an Alfredo pasta dish loaded with seafood and was really surpeised by the freshness of the mussels and the perfect plate. Really a place to consider to treat anybody to the best seafood of their life without over spending.

What I love about this place is that it is so simple and does well in what it sets out to do. You go to Lapointe's for seafood, and you get tasty seafood.
