Review Barhaven Vietnamese Restaurant - Ottawa

The food overall was good. The meat is a bit chewy. The pad thai tasted good but it tasted differently to how pad thai is supposed to taste like, but it still good. The server was really nice and helped me with packing remaining food to take home. Will come back again to try other dishes.

Would give this place 6 stars if I could. Excellent flavours and hefty portions. I used to love to dine in before the pandemic, but I am equally satisfied with their takeout. The food is always hot and fresh. This place is our go-to for meals on busy days, and we are always amazed by the amount of leftovers we get!

Big menu and fast service. Food was mediocore though. The fried calamari was just unseasoned & battered squid. The spring rolls were ok but the dipping sauce tasted weird. Pho was average but the portions were good. The restaurant usually isn’t busy and plays calming music.

The perfect meal when recovering from the flu. Ordered here because our normal place was closed. I do wish they gave hot sauce and chopsticks with my order (I asked for them when ordering). Still a good place though and I like that they use thin rice noodles in their pho.

This was my first time ordering from this restaurant. Overall experience was a 3.5-star till I spotted a hair in the fish sauce that I paid extra fee for....I really wanted to like this place as it's closer to my house and price seems fair however I will not order from it again. My favorite dish was the shrimp summer roll. All in all, ingredients were fresh. Grilled beef on vermicelli was a smaller portion compared to other restaurants I have ordered from before. Pho broth was slightly bland and less beef than I expected.

I've been coming here since it opened with my family, and numerous times for lunch with my colleagues and BVR never disappoints. The food is incredible, and the staff are so friendly. It's nice to see bussiness owners so involved with the daily operations and making sure everything is perfect. Sadly I've moved to Toronto so I only get to come once a month or so, but I definately make a point of going when I'm back!

The atmosphere is alright. They do sell liquor here. The food is soso. Special pho is weird with chicken and onion inside, and some small cut of beef. The noodles portion is okay, but the bowl is too small, and you don't get much soup from it. I personally prefer the pho restaurant besides Barrhaven Costco better......

Delicious food. Good atmosphere. Update: I stopped here for lunch with a coworker. They renovated and it looks great. As well the food was excellent!

Went for a night out with my daughters 10 & 12, the staff was friendly, helpful and the food was delicious. My 10 year old thought it was cozy, I would call it comfortable and clean.

Second time over here, delicious food and an amazing intimate atmosphere!

We’ve been to this restaurant many times and have had excellent Pho... it pains me to write this because we won’t ever go back.

We ordered grilled chicken and rice for our children and it wasn’t until they ate half that we noticed it was completely raw on the inside. Salmonella scare notwithstanding, all they offered was more, ‘cooked’ chicken... no apology, comp or anything.

Truly unfortunate, but I won’t be risking my family’s health for sh$&y chicken again - better options elsewhere.

Great food, friendly service, been going to the BVR for many many years and will continue.
Everyone we bring with us loves it and they too, keep going back

Not my favourite. The quality was below average for a Vietnamese place. The service was fine, but the food was not very tasty. It might have been because I came in 30min before close, but I don't accept that as an excuse.

This is a favourite for our family and never disappoints. Great food, great variety and welcoming service. The dining room is spacious and decorated with local art, and is usually busy. For many years, it has been requested by the kids (now 13 and 15) and is a treat for all. Many people think of Pho when they think of Vietnamese food and to be honest, that's never been our go-to dish so I can't comment on their version of it. But I can say that everything I've tried has been good. Our comfort food is the 402b - under the Steamed Vermicelli section. Delicious fresh herbs, carrots, cucumber, bean sprouts and lettuce, topped with vermicelli, crisp spring rolls and your choice of meat (I'm a fan of the lemongrass pork, but chicken is often a second favourite pick with the family.) Served with their nuoc cham fish sauce, it's so delicious, and filling. We often start with their hot and sour soup to share, or their summer rolls (shrimp, vegetables and vermicelli in rice paper with peanut sauce). When looking for a change, we've tried a variety of their other dishes with various sauces and vegetables. Favorites include their sizzling dishes - a little pricier but large helpings and so tasty! And I really like their #418 Stir Fried Vermicelli with curry. It is loaded with chicken, shrimp, pork and eggs much like Chinese Singapore Noodles but with a different flavour given the vietnamese roots. Always service with a smile. I've never left hungry or disappointed. Yum.

Excellent Service. Went to Barrhaven Vietnamese for a family dinner last week. We were greeted with a friendly smile right away. Unlike some other reviews, I did not find the wait time for food to be long. I had the shrimp and beef wrap and roll and was happy with the portion. I even had some leftover. I thought it was good, about the same as i've had at other places. The employees checked on us frequently and were VERY friendly and personable. 5 stars for service!

Where's the meat?. Ordered delivery and they took longer to get here than they had told me. We had ordered Chicken guy ding, chicken fried rice and shrimp with mixed vegetables. The latter was good with lots of shrimp and broccoli. The chicken guy ding was horrible. There was hardly any chicken in it. Not even a chicken breast. All the pieces were tiny and I had to search for them. The vegetables were overcooked and they even put the stems of the broccoli in there! How cheap! The chicken fried rice was bland but not overly salty. I will not order again. Lotus restaurant is still MUCH better!!

Bland, boring - flavours advertised not even present. Dropped by here on a whim to see what the vietnamese food experience would be like; turns out in Barrhaven it is incredibly boring. Two dishes that were ordered for a main course - lemongrass shrimp and a beef dish were yawn worthy. Expecting some pop in the lemongrass flavour made it even more disappointing. Appetizers of vietnamese spring rolls tasted like they were made in last years frying old, on top of being small, greasy and gross.

Overall - not worth the stop in.

Worst pho and hot and sour soup ive ever had. We went for dinner tonight after seeing the reviews on here. Summer rolls were good but very small. Hot and sour soup was flavourless almost like a watered down and then thickened with corn starch campbells tomato soup. Husbands pho flavourless and shrimp tasted freezer burnt. Came without the sprouts/ mint etc. I had one taste of soup and my husband had a couple bites of pho. Told them we were unhappy and they insisted we pay full price for everything and proceeded to tell us we were wrong and that is how it should taste. Will never ever return.

Brown soupy salty V10. Ordered this for lunch today with a group of colleagues for pick-up. Food was cold (drive only 2 mins from work). My dish, V10 is described as a vegetarian chicken flavored vegetable stirfry dish. I had to order rice because it didn't come with any?! and I cannot describe how gross it looked! (see pic) TONS of sauce, onions and tofu chicken?! No veggies at all! On top of how disgusting it looked, it was SUPER salty. for 11.50$ plus tax and a side of rice, I am appalled. This place is highly overrated and I will never eat here again.

Hidden gem!. I've been living in Barrhaven for 5 years, and have only just discovered Barrhaven Vietnamese. Ordered their soup, spring rolls, and chicken wings. Delicious, and fresh. Have gone back repeatedly over the past few months.

Very good. Went because of the reviews on here and was not disappointed.

Great Food. The only place in Barrhaven that we have found that has the self made rice paper wraps which are wonderful. The lotus salad is exceptional, a bit pricey but well worth it, I've never found that anywhere outside China Town either. The owners are always welcoming, it can be a little chilly there sometimes but we know now to wear a sweater. All in all, great food, good variety and decent prices.

Good Prices, Good Food, Good Service. Typical asian atmosphere so nothing special there. Beer selection is your typical crappy selection.
BUT that is not why you go to asian restaurants. The food is good and service is great. Also the prices are manageable. I'll be back,

Best in Barrhaven!. I love this restaurant! My favorite in Barrhaven. I visit at least 3-4 times a month, with friends and during each visit we try a new dish....we have never been disappointed.....loved them all....great flavor and great portions. A meal starting with soup, two dishes plus rice and tea for around $30...can't be beat...and we have good appetites! The owners are very friendly and always greets us with smiles.

Inexpensive and great Vietnamese fare. I love this place...it is in my neighbourhood, and being a family run restaurant, they treat customers like family. The menu showcases traditional Vietnamese fare at prices that cannot be matched downtown. The shrimp rice rolls are obvious favourites as they are always in high demand, and why not? The rolls are made with fresh and cool rice wraps, stuffed with large shrimps and coriander, and accompanied by a hearty peanut sauce which I usually spice up with the provided chili sauce condiment on the table. The pho are wonderfully satisfying noodles and broth, choice of brisket, chicken, satay beef and even a variety of seafood, accompanied with a plate of fresh bean sprouts and basil herbs to fragrant the broth. A real popular hit with the local crowd, and the service is always friendly and efficient.

Cheap Portions. Ordered the stir fry for $11.50. Dish was half empty with just a few pieces of chicken and lots of sauce (of course to fill up) -- no veggies -- no rice or noodles. Have to buy separate. The Beef dish was supposed to be marinated but was hard to chew. Not worth the money. Will not order or dine in anymore.

Excellent. Really well executed on every level. We go often eat here and have yet to be disappointed. What more can you ask for than friendly service and excellent food?

Great food-Each time I have tried Barrhaven Vietnamese I have greatly enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. The lunch specials are very filling and a great price. The pho is tasty and stays hot. Overall love the restaurant

Only go here b/c barhaven doesn't have any vietnamese restaurant, I guess that's how they survive b/c there's no competition. Food is not good, taste like weeks old.

Better than average. We've gone several times over the past few years.

Overall, the good quality/portion has been good to very good. The price was comparable to other Vietnamese restaurants.

There are many comments on this site about service. I recall having similar slow experiences, however, we had no issues on our most recent visit during the dinner rush (aside from getting the bill).

We will definitely return.
8/10

Fast and yummy. I've only just started going to this restaurant because my daughter likes the pho ba. I usually get spring rolls and the wrap your own rice wrap dishes. Very filling for 14.95! I recommend this place to anyone who likes big portions of soup and you can get your food as spicy as you like.

Always good. Food is always delicious and fresh; love their soup and salad rolls. Lower your expectations of service and you'll always be happy. Take out is fantastic.

Amazing Food. I must admit that when I have been on a busy Friday or Saturday night that the service is slow. However, If you call your order in advance with a time that you are coming the food is ready when you get there. At lunch time the service is good. I will always go back because the Food is AWSOME.

Why so slow?. I have been here at least 25 times and can tell you the service is ALWAYS slow. there have been 2 times when they did not even take our drink order for 15 minutes. i return because i find it hard to get healthy food in barrhaven

Awful dining experience. This restaurant is completey over rated in my opinion. My family decided to try this place on a Friday night. Although a busy night of the week to eat, it took nearly 80 minutes for us to get our spring roll appetizer. The table next to us were seated 15 minutes after us but somehow they got their food before us. Both tables for 4. This is a little unacceptable.

Food was decent at best. Service was awful and I will not be returning.

Outstanding. My wife and I have eaten here on a number of different occasions and have brought many friends here as well. This is by far our favourite spot. Everytime the food is great the service friendly. Even the take out is perfect. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Great Place!. We love this restaurant. Great for dining in, excellent food. The decor is sparse but the food is wonderful, great flavours, very friendly staff. We've done take-out too and the food was equally good. My favourite is the coconut curry chicken.

Excellent. The food was light and delicious, prices are reasonable and staff are friendly and efficient. A definite oasis in the culinary wasteland that is Ottawa.
Doris
Food is great. The food is fresh, good, and reasonably priced.

Always fresh and tasty. Usually we get take out because the few times we've eaten in the service was SLOWWWW. Not this time! We ordered the dinner for 2 "C" which was served FAST and HOT - it thing this is the first time I've had to blow on the spring rolls before taking a bite! The shrimp with pineapple sauce was AMAZING, as was the chicken and beef with veggies and noodles. The soup is ALWAYS good, and the hot and sour soup lived up to our expectations.

This place is excellent. We recently discovered this gem after many disappointments with other Vietnamese restaurants in barrhaven/nepean. Excellent food. Excellent value. Outstanding lunch specials. Service can be a little slow at checkout, but we just walk up to the cash and pay. Dependably good Vietnamese.
Grinch
Awful. Food was terrible. Noodles were dry. Dishes had no taste. Really disappointed. Was in neighborhood, took a gamble and lost. Cannot believe that people like this place. Stay away.
Tjom
Very good food. Went with a friend. Pleasurable staff, GREAT service. We both ordered 'make your own spring rolls' they tasted fresh, crisp, and delicious. I do wish they had better desserts... until then the pineapple is your best bet. Very affordable as well.

Excellent food. Best restaurant in Barrhaven. The service can be slow when it's busy, but the food is worth the wait. Friendly staff.
