Review Heart & Soul Cafe - Ottawa

We love coming to the heart and soul. Such friendly service, beautiful, delicious and nourishing food, and a wonderful atmosphere. I have celiac disease and they have an abundance of gluten free options for me including pancakes and waffles! My husband got a breakfast quesadilla and it was incredible. We highly recommend.

Dropped in just by chance as I was working in the area. I went in and admired the character of this warm and friendly feeling bistro. I went in looking for something quick, and was amazed at how quick they could make me an absolutely delicious chicken club sandwich. Too bad I didn't have time to take in the atmosphere. It was a little restaurant with a lot of character

Great breakfast, worth the scenic drive to Dunrobin. Friendly hosts, reservations recommended to avoid disappointment. Menu items that you won't find elsewhere, made with lots of 💕. Only minor critique was that the potatoes could have been roasted longer🙂. Otherwise, a hearty 👍👍!

Was closest food source to my job site. Bought a burger and hands down was the best burger I've had all year. I will make it a priority to stop here everytime I'm in dubrobin.

Food is good, filling portions and well worth the money. However, there is one female server in particular that has the personality of a tree. She is slow, very unattentive and expects you to go to her to pay your bill, even though the restaurant has "at your table" payment machines. Went there recently, on two different occasions and had this woman serve us. Both times, the service was underwhelming. On the other hand, if the owner serves you, he is pleasant, and efficient in his dealings with you. Maybe they should re-consider their staff.

Tiny little restaurant! Make reservation or wait it out in the gift shop! Worth the trip from Ottawa. The lancakes are shaped as hearts...need I say more

Worth the drive from Ottawa!. I will definitely be coming back to this cafe for breakfast. Our server, who is also one of the restaurant's owners, was very welcoming and gave us wonderful service. The food was fresh and delicious. We got our breakfasts within 15 or 20 minutes, and unlike some previous reviewers, I am willing to wait if I know it means my meal is being freshly and carefully prepared. I ordered the buttermilk gingerbread pancakes, which came with fruit and an apple compote. The pancakes were perfect - slightly crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. Looks like I'll be driving out to Dunrobin more often!

Really really good!. After passing by every day to work and back, my husband and I had the day off and decided to stop in for breakfast. We just loved the character of the restaurant as soon as we walked. It was quite busy when we entered and weren't sure if we should seat ourselves..as busy as the server/ owner was he cleared a spot for us and within minutes we had delicious hot coffee! We both ordered the breakfast special..2 eggs,we chose ham, yummy home fries, really yummy toast and fresh fruit on the side. One of the best breakfasts we have had out in quite awhile! Excellent and fresh and just like home. We will DEFINITELY be back to visit again. Thank you:)

My most favorite place for breakfast! Everything has a distinct home made feel and is delicious and the coffee is fantastic. Family owned and operated and the service is always fast and friendly! It's worth the drive if you live in town.

Unexpected pleasant surprise in a country hamlet. I have never filled out a review for UrbanSpoon before but I thought this place deserved to be flagged up.
My friend and I went for a run to Dunrobin and at first it appeared that there wasn't a cafe for a pitstop. Then we saw the Heart and Soul out of the corner of our eye. We were struck immediately by it's welcoming and homey environment. It's very wooden and rustic inside. The beautiful antique wooden floors have been lovingly nurtured by one of the owners for decades - now THAT's commitment. We were reassured by the tantalising aroma of homemade food. We were very keen to get started because we could see the large and home cooked portions. I had a lovely blueberry french toast with whipped cream and syrup, my friend had the Monte Cristo, a kind of Canadian croque monsieur ( toasted sandwich with grilled cheese and ham) with a side order of potatoes. We knew we were gong to be taken care of when the owner said "I just have to put the kettle on.". The place has history. It's over 100 years old. the original family lived there for decades. You can ask to see the black and white photos of life at the house in the early days. The place definitely has character - fron the beautiful blue porcelain sinks in the bathroom to the wide range of query sauces they sell. we bought the "colon cleaner" by Professor Phardtpounds. The gift shop with a wide range from beautiful clothing to quirky bric a brad is worth a look next door. It should be - it's in a yurt!
Can't wait to return!

Awful experience. I dined at this restaurant with my family and some friends and will never return. We waited over 1.5 hours for our breakfast and when we inquired about this we were told pancakes take time. Note that we had to ask twice about the whereabouts of our food. When breakfast finally did appear it was the pancakes that came first and the egg portions of the meal almost 5 mins later. When we complained to the owner he appear unconcerned and when we left the restaurant we apologized to the friends that we had brought with us the kitchen staff overheard our conversation and were extremely rude. I will never eat at this restaurant again and will not suggest it either. The food when it did come was passable at best. My friend asked twice for a glass of water that never came and was never offered a refill of his drink. All in all an extremely bad experience.

A fine meal in the country!. A quaint homestyle country restaurant run by kind folks. Great coffee and good food. Definitely worth the drive.

Best eggs benny ever!. I was blown away by this place, I was a little taken aback when asked if I had a reservation for breakfast but now understand why. Loud, crowded and a little slow to serve. the FOOD is worth IT. Bring a book if you have to, this place is worth the trip, the wait and and the noise. Best Breakfast ever.

Lots of character, a local gem. Friendly service. I had the eggs Benedict (florentine) and it was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had ! Belive all the hype, it's true.

Best breakfast ever!!!. I love this place I come regularly. I almost always have the same thing. Eggs benedict with ham and spinache (which is extra but worth it). I have loved it all but once. The 'one' time was still good just not the usual however it was smokin busy. I love this place and recommend it to everyone sooo good and the staff is always friendly and fun!!

Bad service. We have been at your cafe on Mondays and have waited an very long time for the food and twice people that came in long after us had thier breakfast before us. We noticed that it was happening to others as well.

Not Worth the Drive. We were disappointed with the food and service, particularly after reading several positive reviews about their breakfast.

We waited over an hour for mediocre eggs benedict (they were overcooked) and a Monte Cristo sandwich (bread was hard and dry). The side of salad was fresh and the raspberry vinaigrette was good, as was the coffee, but some of the potatoes were undercooked. The ambiance is okay, I guess.

As someone who often goes out for breakfast/brunch, this place is not worth the drive. Instead, check out Les Fougeres in Chelsea.

Amazing breakfast!. We went there this morning with my husband and 14 month hold daughter and we had one of the most delicious breakfast ever. A little bit of a drive from Kanata, but well worth it. It's a very cozy place with great service... and very friendly atmosphere. Everybody seems to know each other which made for a pleasant experience. It's a busy place so reservations are recommended. This will probably become a regular treat for us. Much prefer to drive over to the Heart and Soul Cafe then make my way downtown to Eggspectations. The food is fresher and way better value.

Good breakfast. It's always nice to support the local eateries so we tried this place after a run on Saturday morning. Even though we had no reservations they fit us in. Good food and larger portion sizes. The waitress could have been more attentive. The table beside us had to ask for coffee twice and a menu 3 times. Food does make up for the service.

This morning we got last minute reservations at Dunrobin's popular Heart and Soul Cafe. Good company, fantastic food, and the cozy atmosphere made it a perfect morning. Every breakfast go-er needs to eat here, but reservations are a must. The restaurant is a converted farm house with a special charm. It is small so when the kids are loud, it does fill the room as much as it would in, say, your own dining room. We used both of the available high chairs for our group, only one of which is equipped with a seat belt. If you are coming with babies, it would be wise to bring your own booster seat/high chair. One of the high chairs was an antique in need of some repairs, so we would have been more comfortable had we brought our own. Despite these slight drawbacks, the restaurant goes above and beyond to offer a special experience for children. Upon arrival, each child's space is prepared with a Melissa and Doug placemat (clean and in great shape) with twistable chunky crayons, and a plate of
