Review Pressed - Ottawa

Mahomri Palacios
Great place to have brunch. They have a large selection of unique savoury/sweet waffles. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the quality of food is quite good. The wall art is always changing with different artists work being displayed.

Came here for breakfast/brunch on a Saturday morning with my wife and baby. Entrance is stroller friendly with ramps up to the main door. Inside of the restaurant is spacious and has a trendy atmosphere. The place was fairly packed but we were quickly seated at a table for two with enough room to park our stroller beside the table. They have a wide selection of waffles with various options for toppings. We ordered one special and one Benny style. The special was a jerk chicken with coleslaw. While flavourful, I found it to be on the salty side. The Benny style was decent but the hollandaise sauce was average. Both dishes came with a side of fruit or home fries. The fruit could have been more substantial and the home fries were unfortunately way too overdone. Overall the food and service was decent but the price seemed way too steep for what we got. The organic coffee, on the other hand, turned out to be very good so I wouldn’t hesitate to drop in for a cup if I was around the neighbourhood.

Very nice place for brunch. Cozy, staff are pleasant. Waffles are really good. Lots of options with eggs but they all do come on a waffle or sandwich. No low carb options. Overall really enjoyed our breakfast here.

Staff is very friendly. I really like the atmosphere. The maple late is so so nice. Not overpowering, still the taste comes through. The food is amazing as well. The spicy Italian sandwich was all that i needed to make my day better. It comes with a good portion of salad and chips. The plate was 14$ and worth it. I'll be back again for sure.

Nice, bustling place for a brunch. There was a bit of a wait as the place was busy but worth it. The waffles were delicious; we got the chicken and apple ones, and the accompaniments were great too. Even the coffee and tea tasted better. Service was pleasant and food was served fairly quickly. Overall, wonderful vibe and good food, would go back. [Like if you find the review useful!]

I had the hangover waffle which was topped with smoked brisket, gravy, and cheese curds. The waffle didn't really work well flavour wise, or texturally, but the individual elements were okay. The smoked brisket was lacking smoky flavour, and it could have used a little more gravy. Service was great, but food was just okay. It's a busy spot for Sunday brunch, and I don't think I'd be willing to wait for a table again, but it was an okay meal.

Waffles are $12 and up (average $15). But, very tiny and not fluffy. Wonder why don’t they offer two pcs for this size at least. Servers are nice. No parking available but street parking.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and first place in Ottawa to accept btz! I loved my food and experience here. I tried the vegan poutine and it was so worth the price! Friend had the South waffles which were also delicious. Fair portion sizes. Would definitely come again!

Always a great time at Pressed. Good food, decent choice of beer, great music and lovely staff. And wifi makes it a great place to get some work done. Thanks Pressed.

It was great food...had the classic beef brisket. Liked it alot but was disappointed with how much carmalize onions and pickled onion was on the sandwich. The chipotle mayo had great flavour with the hint of spiceness. Other then that I loved the atmosphère and the staff. Would highly recommend and cant wait to go back :)

Great food. Amazing coffee and friendly service. Also, often live local music. The best of the best with a very cool casual decor.

Wonderful time here for Open Mic. I was shocked at how attentive people were to the performers, experienced and inexperienced alike. It may be a little intimidating at first for people who are trying open mic for the first time, but let me assure you, everyone will encourage you and you'll feel at easy pretty quickly!

Amazing food and service! Come for your sandwich fix!

I did not get my drink that I ordered with my meal until I had finished my entire meal. I even took a break between so I could have my drink with it and after waiting I decided to finish it and only after I was done did I get my drink that took 20 mins, while my friend had gotten theirs 20 mins before me and they were the same drinks. My friend had ordered a Nanaimo bar and she never received it at all. Not impressed and will not be returning.

Hitched my bike to the post after Bluesfest to grab a beer and a sandwich, helped myself to the complimentary water tap and sat down within view of the menu board.........wow..........big mistake. Waitress took away the free water and offered me the door...this is a private club, event, clique, whatever. Only six people in the joint I still felt humiliated, 15 years ive owned property around the corner, picking up street trash to keep my neighborhood a descent place never had Generation 'Mine' elites show ME the door, hanging a sign that clearly said, 'Come in, We're Open.' I wont make that mistake again.

Was at Pressed to see Transit Lake (performing the night Pine and Iris were there). Ordered a Hot Italian sandwich - delicious! Great service, reasonable prices for food. Will definitely drop in again.

Went for a concert over the summer, great atmosphere great experience. I've been going back regularly ever since. Great food, great coffee, great service. Thank you.

Usually love going to Pressed. Today was a different story unfortunately. Took a "club sandwich" which was custom as is not a menu item. When it finally arrived (wrapped for take out even though we were sitting in) it had no bacon, no garlic mayo which I even asked for a little extra, took sweet fries and got chips, paid for the dip did not get it. For. $21 sandwich is was not impressed. The excuse I got, we are busy! Finally I got my 2 very small strips of bacon(lol). Not sure if I will return

Always great service amazing sandwiches amd try the mac&cheese with smoked chicken and mushrooms yum

I've enjoyed going to Pressed for years. Their sandwiches are all tasty, and best yet are the waffles!
Carolyne Leonard
I love everything here but SO wish they did an all day breakfast! They smoke their own meats and mushrooms for sandwiches they are exceptional. This is the perfect spot to read and have lunch.

We will be back ! great place , Great people , and awesome Food & music ... Thanks Pressed !!

Delicious waffle brunch!! Unfortunately there was no specialty coffee on that day (tho i did saw people with lattes) but the regular coffe was delicious!
John Cho
Great friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Had a good selection of beers on top of it.
Shana Hedges
Awesome place, great staff, great food...my new favourite place on Gladstone!
Tanisha Gandhi
I'm sorry but I do not think this place lived up to its hype! The menu states two waffles so I asked for a half order and ended up getting half a single waffle...so that was slightly confusing. The waffles are agressively average, slightly undercooked I'd say. The decor is cute and the cappuccino wasn't the worst I've had.

Great atmosphere, yet can get very crowded weekends during the morning. Waffle brunch on the Weekend is a must. Sandwiches are good quality for price paid and costs associated with other menu items are reasonable. This venu often hosts events on a pay what you can basis.

Came for the weekend waffle brunch...
Started off on the wrong foot by waiting 20 minutes to get a water after asking three times (about half the tables were occupied, so not busy).
Eagerly awaited the waffles as the server said it was their specialty and recommended the Big Apple and Fried Chicken waffles.
After waiting another half hour we were finally served cold, soggy waffles- one with two apple slices on it and the other with a cold piece of deep fried breading with a piece of chicken hiding somewhere in there. Had to wait another 10 minutes for syrup (it's supposed to come with syrup so we weren't waiting for anything extra). The server never came to ask us how the meal was and when he finally dropped off the bill and quickly left again, both of our plates were mostly untouched and he still didn't ask! Neither of us felt comfortable going out of our way to say anything negative as he couldn't bother to ask us how our meal was, refill our water OR refill our "bottomless coffee". So we left paying $40 with tip for two bites of soggy waffle and a cup of coffee each. Really disappointing as the menu is unique and the atmosphere in there is really great. Will never go again.

Great food and awesome service; this was our first time visiting this place and already I can't wait to return. I have so many other menu items on my wish list.
Peachgirl
The waffles on the menu sounded so good and there were so many savoury options! The waffles at were really good and the service was pretty fast too - especially when we saw the huge line-up after us.

I'm being generous with 2 stars since my first experience here was fairly good. My past experience however, was not.

My girlfriend and I ordered two dishes: the Florentine and the Natasha.

The Florentine is a waffles benny with "wilted" kale. However the kale was not wilted in any way. It was raw. This was not served as advertised and raw kale is simply not a good match to waffles benny.

The Natasha is a waffles benny with hot smoked trout. The trout did not seem fresh in any way. They might have thought that smoking the trout would cover up this fact, but it tasted very fishy and incredibly salty. Nothing compared to some other delicious smoked trout offerings in the city.

The worst offense however, was the hollandaise. It was broken, resembling a mucousy mess on our plates. We informed the server, and she acknowledged but in the end did not offer any kind of compensation. She spoke to the cooks and they explained it was because it was from the bottom of the bot near the end of brunch service. I'm sorry, but it's no excuse and you should not be serving a broken hollandaise to anyone.

Incredibly disappointing experience at any price, but considering I paid $40 for this meal, I don't think I'd consider taking a chance here again.

I was the kind of person who never understood why anybody would want to order the same thing at a restaurant everytime they went.

Until I had the southern style chicken and waffles at Pressed.

I've had them 3 or 4 times now and each time its an experience. Simply one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The place is really cool and the staff is very friendly. When we first started going you'd order your food at the register, pay, and then have your food brougjt to the table. So when you were done you could just leave a tip and be on your way. Now its more traditional and you have to wait for your bill after your meal. No big deal but the setup before was so nice and quick. Definity still worth going for those amazing waffles!
Amy
Interesting little cafe! It is definitely one of a kind, with one of a kind staff. Their food combinations are unique, but you'll still find old favorites. I haven't been enough times to comment on the consistency of the food, but its a nice place to sit and chill.
Jay
Great sandy, small choice of draughts on tap but I liked the selection nonetheless. Have tried several sandwiches on the menu and have yet to be dissatisfied

Came here for Sunday brunch around noon. When you walk in here you order at the counter, they give you a table number and you select your table. Your food is brought to you when ready. There seemed to be just enough tables to accommodate everyone coming and going which was fortunate. I ordered the margarita sandwich - smoked grape tomatoes, mozzarella, and olive tapenade for $8 I believe. The tomatoes gave the sandwich a nice flavour. The tapenade wasnt overly olive-y which I appreciated. It was a little light on the mozzarella but that worked. The bread was slightly crunchy and very filling. It came with sweet potato chips which were tasty, but half crumbs unfortunately. The music and surrounding conversations forced me to speak with a raised voice which was a little annoying. Overall pretty decent food/experience and a fine value.

Was looking forward to trying this place. Showed up and they tried charging us to come in. Wasn't there for the mediocre music playing, was there for the food. I asked if they were serving and got told rudely "they'll serve only if your here for the show"
Danielle
Pre-Show Sandwich. Played a show here on Friday.
Ordered the Slow-smoked Chicken with Roasted Red Peppers and Goat Cheese.
It was delicious. The Sweet Potato chips are amazing and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Will be going back for more!

Hows their coffee?. Everyone talks about their foods, but no one mentions how their coffee is.

As I'm on the look for a coffee shop and this happens to be around the corner, I'm dying to try it, even though I know I'll be disappointed.

Any feedback is welcome.

Had a late lunch, tried the chicken sandwich. Overall it was good, but nothing amazing. Caught a glimps of their waffles. Will have to go back to try it.

I was truly disappointed with my experience at pressed. I had seen their venue on You Gotta Eat Here. The food and reviews looked great! I had decided to go with the Big Apple waffle breakfast. Caramelized apples, cheddar, bacon and maple syrup. Sounds great, right? Not so much. My food arrived 2 minutes after ordering. My plate was a soggy mess of apple and waffle mush. My waffles that were supposed to come with bacon came with half a slice of over cooked bacon! HALF A SLICE!!! For a $15 dish of waffles, you'd expect a little more than half of once piece of bacon. The taste was underwhelming, and quite frankly, disgusting. Would not ever eat here again... Poopoo.

Very high quality with unique offerings.. We tried Pressed out for breakfast on a whim one morning. It's a very...hip place shall we say but they have a surprisingly varied breakfast offering. the Jhuevos Ranchesor waffle I had was fantastic and cooked perfectly. it was $12 but was so filling I can probably skip lunch today. Highly recommended if you want to try something different.

Had the goat cheese chicken sandwich, was pretty good. Loooove the sweet potatoe chips!
Christine Mac
Absolutely delicious!!! Walked over today to grab their chicken sandwich for dinner. Made fresh while I waited. It was unreal! Still warm when I got home. Perfect amount of garlic mayo with goat cheese and red pepper. The sweet potato chips (made on site) were the perfect side. Light, crispy with a hint of salt. I will be going back here for sure!

Oh, so very disappointing. For the past two years I have been on a search for the best eggs benny in Ontario. Let's just say I did not find it at Pressed. Reviews of a "buttery waffle" benedict intrigued me, and brought me in for brunch. It was the absolute worst take on an eggs benedict that I have ever had. The waffles were far from buttery, the hollandaise was overly acidic (blargh) and the eggs were cold yet over cooked. From now on, the only thing I will get from Pressed is a beer, since that's a little harder to screw up.

Great Spot!. This place is a diamond in the rough. The neighborhood its located in is not exactly fancy with cool shops or big time buildings but there is something about this place that feels welcoming. I went for brunch and ordered the Eggs Benedict on a waffle. It was delicious. Coffee was bottomless. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu!

Ambiance. When myself, my husband, kids and grand kids walked in the restaurant at ten am for brunch we thought.. Okay.. Pretty empty....but after ordering at the counter and settling in the place was packed. We came with empty stomachs and were filled with such wonderful flavours! Loved the ambiance of being surrounded with laughter and happiness and the beautiful works of art.

Adele Villeneuve

For 15$ sandwich small side salad and a pop and I'm still hungry. Service was ok, food was as good as the foodnetwork made it sadly.

Went to brunch and absolutely loved it. Really hip restaurant. Cool concept. Had the big appel waffle plate. Delicious! And the serve yourself coffee bar is pretty neat.

Had the smoked trout sandwich with lemon dill aioli and avocado for lunch today, and I would definitely hit it again. Good portion with a great trout taste, and with that aioli? Nothing wrong with it. Plus the owner was out and about making sure everyone was doing ok. Great spot for lunch... and I hear their gourmet waffles on sat/sun are the bomb

Beef Brisket. Just had the brisket sandwich. Meat was amazingly tender. The sandwich had the perfect mix of sweet, spicy, crunchy and saucy with an undertone of smokey. Need I say more? So. Delicious. The fact that this place clearly cares about food, where it comes from and the impact it has on the world is an added bonus. Worth every penny.

Yuck!. I was looking forward to my lunch at Pressed, so needless to say I was disappointed when the only edible art of my meal was a $5 side of kale. My sister had the breakfast sandwich which appeared to have a lifetime worth of mayo along with the whitest bacon I have ever seen. The breakfast sandwich was a appetite suppressant. I had the Tuscan and found the sandwich to be very dull. The side of kale was GREAT but not anywhere near worth the $5 I paid for it. Then came dessert, a whoopie pie that actually made me sad. I LOVE all things dessert, but this was just gross with its dry cake and hard filling, I left 3/4s on the plate. But I won't lie, I would not be opposed to giving Pressed a try on the weekend, when they have the waffle sandwiches, I'll just be sure to ask for my bacon, well uh cooked.

Great find. Luv this place. I always make time to visit when I'm in town. Staff is always pleasant and helpful.
A great menu for vegetarians and non.

Waffle Brunch was awesome. Among the three of us, we had the Hangover, Florentine and Benedict - all of which were great. Service was really nice and the bottomless coffee was very good quality. Two thumbs up; definitely will go again.

Great dinner and super comfortable. Very friendly staff, and excellent food - the whole family really loved it. This is definitely the spot we'll return to when visiting Ottawa. Close to downtown, neighborhood parking available, and a great relaxed atmosphere.

Went here for the first time with a friend. I was surprised at all the complaints about service- our server was very friendly and prompt! Food was delicious and the coffee was good. Definitely going again!
Roger Bredin
Food was ok but atmosphere was a
Little too rough to be enjoyable and parking was challenging. Some of the food was pre-prepared and as such I don't think as good. For 4 eating kind of lean it was just under $50 so I'd consider it a bit higher priced though some may not!
Tiffwoolley
Not Worth Trying. This restaurant is terrible. Decor inside is below average. Seen it on Youve Got to Eat Here I would say don't eat there. The food is below average nothing like we expected after seeing it on TV. The service was just O.K.
Morningstar
The outside says it all at night. Shady kinda business. Not a good place to hang
around at night especially when steppin' out
and if alone.

Drive by at night and you'll see what I mean.
The food is below average.
Marnie Wellar
It's for insiders only. If you're just hoping for a pleasant little cafe, beware; this place is a hipster fortress. Expect utter chaos and cheerless, indifferent staff - confusion, discomfort, slowness, getting stuff you didn't order, not getting stuff you did, and nobody caring one little bit.
Bandblair
I want this place to be better than it is. It's super disorganized, slow and overpriced. The food is good though. I just think they could make it a lot cooler.
Michelle
Most disorganized place I've ever visited. It seemed as if it doesn't know what it wants to be. It was dirty, you had to clean up after yourselves cafeteria style and food came out at whatever time regardless of your table. Fend for yourself finding a table against all the people just sitting around listening to music during the day. It doesn't seem to be somewhere where people would visit for the food, I ordered a Mac and cheese which happened to be some sort of lasagna like thing that seemed frozen and reheated. Waitresses seem to be the ones putting the sandwiches together, which explains why it takes so long and they don't have time to wipe down the tables. Needless to say, I won't be back.
Foodluv20
Amazing!!. I have been coming to Pressed for awhile now - the food is absolutely amazing and the vibe is great! It used to be kind of slow, but I have noticed a definite speeding up of the service. It is still a new business so I think they are starting to really get their stuff together. Understandably though, they do heat up the sandwiches and press them so it does take some time... but all worth it for a melty, warm and amazing sandwich! One of my favourite casual eats places in Ottawa, I will continue to come in every week :) Also, loving all the live music events... and the cute staff ;) Keep up the good work Pressed!!

Too slow I went in on a Sat.... Too slow
I went in on a Saturday at 11am for sandwiches (which were already made) and had to leave because of the wait. There were only 2 people in front of me. This isn't the first time this has happened. I have never been to a place with slower service for tasks that do not require much. Take sandwich, heat, put in bag, charge customer, take money, I've change and sandwich. That's a 10 minutes max transaction. Not 20!
Won't be going back
(This had also happened when I've been the only customer in the store. 20 minutes for an already made sandwich is inexcusable
Facebook User
Mmm mmm. So me and my chicka went out for some grub. And we live in the hood, so thought we would check this place out. As soon as i walked in, i thought to myself..what the.....
But then we got our sandwiches (my girl had the slow cooked chicken wif goat cheese and i had the beef brisket with caramel onions) (yea)!

A bit on the expensive side but not more than harveys for an example.

The chips from the kettle cooker were delicious.

All in all, wow. Will be back! HOLA!
Miss Halfhide
I just don't understand why it takes 20 minutes to press a sandwich!?!
Bella
I went for the first time today for breakfast today. It was good. Waffles were tasty enough. The menu/ordering system was a little confusing... it said "Bottomless coffee or orange juice" on the breakfast blackboard but, as it turned out, the orange juice was not bottomless. Pretty good place but very Hipster. Skinny jeans and tuques everywhere.
Chow_N_Chug
DISAPPOINTING experience... Poor customer service and food is not as good as expected especially the waffles... For the price you pay for it - NOT great at all...

We Need More Places Like This in Town. QUICKIE - I've been to Pressed many many times over the last year. The service has always been great (even when I bring my hyper toddler) but it's the food you should go for. I've had everything on the kid's menu (toddlers are picky), a whole lot of sandwiches, soups, and the chili. LOVE the beef brisket chili. Would kill for the beef brisket chili. Go check it out night or day, and enjoy.

Simple, yummy, a must try!. I have been too pressed to many times to count, for brunch, lunch and dinner. I love it! I love the space; I love the food and its quality. The place is definitely aimed at hipsters, which I am not, at all, but can find the charm in the space and look beyond the scarves, tight pants and oversized black frame glasses! The owner is great and friendly and staff is always there to please you. Everything is made in house and the owner tries to have as much local products as possible and that on its own is worth a lot. I give Pressed a BIG must try! Though I had gone for brunch before I had never done the waffles, and have finally done it. I have gone a few times now and they are simply delicious, the price is right, the flavours are all there, it’s simply delicious. My only complain about the waffles is that often the eggs that are suppose to be poached and have a runny yolk, don’t. I love the yolk and the fact that most of the time at least one of the eggs is not runny makes me a little sad. But beside that, and even without the runny yolk, this place is great!
Ghost Ghosterson
Frustrating. I love the food here, especially the weekend waffles, but over 6 months I've found the service is consistently getting worse. Every time I visit someone has had their order forgotten, or waited 30 mins for something simple, or had the wrong meal brought to them. Last visit, four of us went for brunch, 2 of us got our food in 15 minutes, and then it was another 20 for the others, and it was the exact same orders. And offering 'bottomless' coffee is a bit silly when they are almost permanently out of coffee.

It's a shame that given time they aren't making progress on their back of house operations, or their service. If you're patient, try the Hangover waffle, it's incredible.
Ottawaeat
When are we going to stop having these hipster restaurants run by people who have absolutely no clue as to how to run a restaurant? If u want to wait 30 minutes for a pre made simple sandwich with nothing but meat and bun then knock yourself out. I will never go back. These restaurants won't be around long.
Grashnak
It takes more to be hip than hipsters. Look, I get that this place is all about "cool" and not particularly about food or service, but it's actually getting ridiculous. I've been three time, and it remains an interesting space, clearly catering to the hipster crowd.

But if you can't turn out two sandwiches (pre-made - they're sitting right there, waiting to be grilled) and a couple of simple sides in under 20 minutes when you aren't busy AND you can't be bothered to actually serve everything at the same time, then you have no business calling yourselves a restaurant.

The sandwiches are good. No question. It's just hard to taste them when everything about the place cries out "We Don't Give A Damn".

Pressed parking. This place has no parking . they fight for parking on arthur st . we have had issues with pressed and the other shesha bar upstairs . on Friday there was a mob of 20 people watching 2 people fighting with a broken beer bottle blood still on the street out front of pressed. this morning my E-bike was hit and run parked on the street . if this is the type of people that visit these 2 places . we don't wont them parking on arthur st . and i also watched 2 people empty there car of garbage on the street "beer cans"and then went into pressed . after they left i picked up the beer cans and gave them to the owner of pressed . and told them there customers are not nice and have no respect for the people that live in the area of pressed. i will be calling the city of ottawa about this as the police have had issues with the pressed sandwich building.
Renee
I agree with the review below, I went when it first was starting out and the sandwich were some of the best I've had in Ottawa. Now however, the bread is always hard and it doesn't taste as fresh as before. The service is also kind of slow for just heating up food that's been made already. It's a shame because the atmosphere of the place is very nice.
Curtis
Such a great spot. Been several times now. The sandwiches are always delicious. Today had their special - curried lamb with raita and greens. Wonderful. The owner and the rest of his staff are all lovely. Additionally, it's a cool space, relaxed vibe and great music.
Manj
Great food, shame about the service. Went to Pressed on the weekend. Loved the setting. Comfortable and hip. Ordered two panini, Margarita and Falafel. It took 24 minutes to get the sandwiches. The cafe wasn't busy and for sandwiches that are already pre-made this is a very long time. The couple sitting behind us waited 20 min for their sandwich only to be told that the second sandwich was on the way. It arrived about 10 min later.
The sandwiches were great. This place has a great feel and obviously prides itself on sourcing local ingredients and serving a quality product.
It was a shame that the service was so slow. Will definitely go back and give it another go.
Chris
Overpriced. Sandwich small and not worth the price!
James Chew
I went for lunch. The staff helped with answering question regarding food allergies. I ordered a lobster sandwich and eggplant sandwich and one lentil masala soup. The soup was good and fairly priced at 5 tax incl. The lobster sandwich had some fresh greens and salt. The eggplant sandwich could have been better, by deep frying the egg plant the taste of the egg plant was gone and the cabbage overwhelmed the slaw dressing and taste of the sandwich. For the 2 sandwiches a soup and a root beet cost about $30 with tax. I am on the fence about a recommendation for this place as the Ted Apron is down the street and much tastier
Waiter
Trying too hard.. This place has pulled out all the stops to look like a indi, hipster, local foodie spot. And in some respects they've been successful, but I think in terms of the actual food, they've fallen flat. I love a good sandwich and regularly patronize places like Sanguiccio, Di Rienzo's, Art Is In, and Sherwood market, but I was disappointed with Pressed. The bread was boring and seemed like regular grocery store panini, the toppings were a little dated and not all that authentic, and the menu is small, and doesn't seem like it changes very regularly.

I ordered a "Slow-smoked Chicken with roasted red peppers and goat cheese" for $8.50 and a Ceasar salad for $5. The salad was a decent portion but had packaged croutons and what tasted like Kraft ceasar dressing(at least use renee's or something decent if you don't make your own). The sandwich was kind of boring and not overly flavourful as well as dry. It was also on the small side considering the price-tag.

I don't think I'd return. The price point is inconsistent with the neighborhood and portions, and the sandwiches are pre-made and sit unwrapped, drying out in a display cabinet.

Delicious.Eclectic.Refreshing. Pressed is a "must try" foodie spot in Ottawa. They serve a delicious variety of fresh sandwiches, sides and drinks. Today I tried the house made Falafel sandwich dressed with smoked Baba ghanoush and shredded pickled cabbage as well as the smoked chicken sandwich with roasted red peppers and goat cheese. Both were very tasty and I would definitely recommend trying them when you stop by. Yum yum yum! We will be back soon!

The first time we went several months ago we were really impressed by the food. We went last week to pick up sandwiches and not only did it take 20 minutes to heat up sandwiches that were already assembled, there was no one else in there!! whats wrong with that picture? Anyways, the sandwiches weren't even half as good as before and we couldnt even finish them. My husband threw his out. We won't be going back......painfully slow service and food thats gone downhill.

-----15 Apr, 2012-----

We went for lunch to check this pace out after reading the reviews and to be honest have a sandwich - for some reason sandwich shops are hard to come by in Ottawa and we are always trying to scout out a new place. As other reviews mention its in a pretty bizarre location but lots of parking close by. Our lunch was about $42 which included a beer and a glass of wine, 2 sandwiches and 2 sides. Not a bad price at all compared to spending 50 at a darcy mcgees type and the food is just salty bland food.....everything we had was tasty and awesome. Now we were full for pretty much the rest of the day so maybe you could share the sides but oh was it worth, the food is very tasty. I had chicken sandwich with collards amd bacon as the side...A-mazing, they also serve homemade kettle chips on the side. Everything here is thoughtfully prepared and seasoned. My hb had the potato salad which was seasoned with chipotle....yum! So happy we checked this place out....funky little spot, good tunes, chilled and good service. Well worth it

Great food and cool music!. Went to Pressed on Sat night, really cool Afro-jazz music from the Stimela Project, and the food was great! Had the chicken sandwich which was fantastic. Everything cooked on site, but one comment- food in the window makes it seem as though sandwiches have been there awhile or come from somewhere else; would suggest they don't put them out but make them on the spot, since they are all home made anyway! Home made sweet potato chips also delicious!!

Impressed with Pressed.. This place is fantastic.
The atmosphere is simple and cozy. You order your food and pay up front, and they serve you at your table. The staff were friendly and took the time to answer all our questions. The food came quickly and was very, very good.
My husband and I both had Tuscan sandwiches and this absolutely incredible potato salad. The potato salad alone is worth going back for, but the sandwiches were delicious. Prosciutto, fresh mozarella, basil, smoked tomato, black olive tapenade... the olive tampenade was a little strong, but the prosciutto was salty and bacon-like, and the smoked tomatoes were a really nice touch. They served the sandwiches with sweet potato crisps that I think they should be selling by the bag, they are so good. We finished our meal with dessert; hubby had a Nanaimo bar, and I had the butter tart bar. The Nanaimo bar was the best one I have ever tasted. The macaroon base was chewy but crumbly, and the vanilla cream was silky and sweet... so good. The butter tart bar was wonderful. It was not too sweet, had plenty of raisins and the pastry was just right. We didn't know what to expect, but boy are we glad we took a chance on Pressed.

This place is good. It's a little pricy but well worth it, the staff is friendly and the food is all of very good quality and tastiness.

Great place in a crazy location. What's this neighbourhood called anyway? I see Urbanspoon classifies Pressed as in Centretown. More of a dead zone between Centretown and Little Italy. Whatever it's called, Pressed is probably worth the trek over.

On our recent first visit, my wife had the caprese sandwich or whatever its called, while I had the brisket sandwich. The meat on mine was fantastic, with a very good sauce that had good balance. The bread was great, which is particularly impressive given that the sandwich is made ahead of time and then grilled upon order. This last point was my only issue - some parts of the inside were still cold. Hey Pressed, consider turning up the fridge case a notch, or nuking the sandwich for 15 secs before grilling to take the chill off. Aside from that, great 'wich.

My coffee seemed a bit odd on the recent visit, though. It was good enough, but tasted sort of Tim's quality. Normally these small cafes like their coffee to be big, bold and from some micro-roaster. This cup tasted more Nescafe than Bridgehead. But if there were beer, who would need coffee, and some beer taps are apparently on the way - the Kitchisippi guy was even there during our visit. Hey Pressed, me again - throw a Beau's tap in there as well and I promise I'll never drink your coffee again.

Great New Sandwich Place. We have been to Pressed 3 times since it opened in December. It has great sandwiches and some tasty desserts (some gluten free). The service is friendly, but they are still working out some kinks. Once that is resolved, it will be fantastic.

A great addition!. There are so few good restaurants for a tasty but reasonably priced lunch. Congratulations! This gourmet sandwich spot hits the mark, delicious panini and coffee, relaxed and attractive ambiance. Worth the trip out of the usual downtown circuit.

First Visit to Pressed. I love this place - the look of it is really cozy and quirky, making good use of used stuff. And the food was terrific. I had a smoked chicken panini and coffee and both were truly fine.

I will definitely go back. It's like an oasis in the middle of a lonely-looking neighbourhood.

Nice atmosphere. Interesting selections of sandwiches, baked goods from auntie loo's. Four cheese sandwich tasty. Only thing I would change is for multigrain bread.

Really nice place. Very relaxed atmosphere. Sandwiches are pretty reasonably priced all between $6-$10. We had the smoked trout and the 4 cheese which were served on paninis and we had a side of Mac and Cheese. All was good quality and nice and fresh ingredients. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going back!

Just a skip and a hop down from Bank street on Gladstone lies Pressed, the fantastic little cafe/bakery/sandwich shop. Strolling inside, our eyes were attacked by what I’d call ‘the most random of things’…seriously, there were masks, pieces of art, and some decor I would not have expected to see. Also, the benches for the seating area were (I’m pretty sure), church pews, but honestly I think every random bit just added to the overall atmosphere of the place. Walking up to the counter, we took our time looking over the menu and asked the gentleman who worked there a few questions before ordering. He was a bit unusual, but he was none the less helpful in our panini picking process, and by the last bite we were satisfied with our choices. NOW on to the food!

A lot has been said about Pressed already. Praise for the eclectic menu of waffle brunches, sandwiches, dinner plates, fancy coffees and other beverages. Words like hipster get thrown around rather freely. In my half-dozen visits, the service has ranged between delightfully personal to raggishly grumpy. Is my latte supposed to have gunk in the bottom? And, yeah, the decor is a little value village hipster chic, but the church-pew and recycled school desk seating is not so uncomfortable that you can't crank through 10 pages of your novel before your butt goes numb. And other than during waffle weekend brunches you can usually find a quiet seat with an outlet. But the food at Pressed has personality. This isn't just any sandwich place. I'm partial to the wild boar, which comes with sweet potato chips and a pickled bean. It's good. And homey. But...the cynic in me has to ask, is Pressed trying to be different at the expense of being really good? Do I really want to eat a pickled bean, or

Our first foray to Pressed was for dinner. Service was friendly, attentive and charming. The server was a newbie – if memory serves, it was her very first night. Her unfamiliarity with the menu was more than made up for by her eagerness to please. Pressed allows community groups to have meetings on the premises. While we were there that evening, there was a prayer-group-slash-community-action gathering from the Afro-Canadian community, having a lively conversation that was much fun to eavesdrop on.

As soon as we walked in, I knew that this was going to be a wholly satisfying experience. It's a small but mighty kind of establishment, and one that has a whole lotta soul.

the ciabatta was perfectly toasted and the combination of roasted red pepper and goat cheese with the chicken was a winner.

Wow, I love this place! I went here for lunch expecting to try and soup and salad, until I saw it - gluten-free bun available - yay! So I indulged in the most sinful sandwich on the menu, slow-smoked beef brisket with caramelized onion and aioli. Although that dish with it's side of sweet potato chips and spicy pickled green bean would have been more than enough food, I couldn't help but get the ceasar salad with bacon bits to start. Oh, and a B. Goods ginger cookie for later (it was made with spelt, how could I leave it behind!?). My husband had the margherita sandwich, basil, tomato, fresh mozzarella and pesto. Also a winner. The toughest part was having to go back to the office when I was done eating. Space is open, airy and bright with church pews and couches. It's the kind of place you just want to stick around and sip lattés all afternoon. Service was awesome, food delicious but sandwiches pricy. Sandwiches range from $6 to $13. www.pressed-ottawa.com 750 Gladstone, Ottawa 613-6
