Review Jack Astor's Bar & Grill Hunt Club - Ottawa

Food was quite filling, the salad was big. Ambience was great! We were a group of 9 people and the server addressed to all of our needs well. Excellent service at this location. All foods trickled down around same time, which was nice, no need to awkwardly wait for others to get their food. Clean environment and a good location for gatherings. Price wise, a bit expensive for a salad “ #inflation “.

Wasn’t impressed at all, the service was good except that one waiter come up to our table to talk about drinks we didn’t ask for. I ordered the yellow curry . It was nothing like Thai food it had cauliflower cucumbers and tasted weird . Would never order it again. The price was around 20$ .

Large sports bar with tables and booths. Good menu with meat fish and plenty of veggie options. Large beer selection. Friendly relaxed place where you can take the kids and they can draw on the table cloth!

One of our favourite restaurant’s in Ottawa - great food and cold drinks with friendly staff, lots of free parking and clean washrooms 🤗

Nice to see chain restaurants offering plant-based food options! If you're vegan make sure to say so, they can accommodate the plant-based menu items. The dessert is delicious as was the vegan curry. Would go back again for sure!

I knew Jack Astor’s for its amazing wings, and decided to stop by with my parents for a lunch on the go. My dad got a burger, mom the Fish N Chips and I tried the Mexicain Chicken Bowl. It was delish, full of flavors and just perfectly spicy! By the way, our waitress was so great! Despite the mask, I could see her smile, she was quick, efficient and funny.

Great food! Live DJ which I wasn't expecting and great service. We had the guacamole as an appetizer and I highly recommend it!

This is my first time visiting Jack Astor’s. And it was for my birthday. Everything was good—food, vibe, etc. But I was a little sad that I didn’t get a birthday freebie and the server forgot to give us the colour pencils for the kids. I realized that our next table had them. As I was leaving the table, I noticed that.

This restaurant is nice and big, several TVs to view sports games. The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable. I highly recommend the garlic panbread it's fresh and delicious. Also the chicken fingers are made in house and amazing.

Amazing service. Try their thick-cut bruschetta!! The place is big and clean, host always welcoming. The food was fresh and the price was not bad at all! Would highly recommend this location over the one in Landsdowne.

For a road house the food is OK the service was very good and serve well. The place is clean and the food was serve hot.
If what you look to get in fast and get out because you are in a rush, they can do it.

Pretty good bar/pub style restaurant. the interior looks nice and the staff was quick, attentive and super friendly. The food is also pretty good with large portions and the prices are around average. Overall, it was a good experience and I'd go back.

It's a great place for drinks after work and to unwind. There's a lot of energy and it's always busy. I also found it to be louder than most places; not sure why.

Service wise, staff is pleasant with good customer service skills. Drinks were good and my burger was ok.

I really enjoyed my visit to Jack Astor's. I had actually driven by many of their restaurants because someone told me it would be too hard to find something vegetarian there. They were awesome and instead of just ordering what was already vegetarian on the menu they vegetarianized the Bombay chicken curry bowl for me and it was awesome. :)

Terrible. They trick you with the portions making them "big" with plenty of tortilla or fried wontons, but the actual protein portions, dips, etc are ridiculously small. The service is so bad, we waited for 20 min for our waitress to come and take the order.

Ook, so, there's Kelsey's and Montana's. This place is the same as both restaurants that I mentioned above, the only difference, in my opinion, is that is maybe it's more pricey. Nothing more to say.

I've spent half my life working in hospitality and food service. I've worked the line and been Chef de Partie, I've managed brigades and crews, and know my way around the kitchen.

I don't have unrealistic expectations and I judge a place by its own standards. I give establishments three strikes. One bad night doesn't sour me on a restaurant, even two... Three strikes and you're out.

Jack Astors at Huntclub got their third strike tonight.

My first experience left me scratching my head at how a neighbourhood watering hole could justify half a dozen nacho chips individually topped on a board as a shareable app and empty my pockets without filling my stomach. Ok. So it's over priced and mediocre food. Strike one.

Second experience required me sending my steak back... Twice. Now some places can't figure out cuisson. Jack Astors doesn't pretend to be fine dining - it certainly isn't - but if you can't figure out a medium rare steak - take it off the menu. What's more. You have no business charging over 30$ for a steak if you don't know how to cook it. Ultimately the manager dealt with it appropriately and the front staff can't be faulted for the kitchen's ineptitude. Strike two.

Tonight I had what should have been a safe bet - a bacon cheese burger.

To be fair, our server, Abeal, acknowledged he made an error by inadvertently ordering me the smallest patty available; a burger resembling something from the kids menu at McDonalds.

After apologizing profusely, Abeal took away my kiddie burger. Before he did, I confiscated the small 'bowl' of fries from the plate and slowly snacked while my dining companions continued their meals - finishing as my replacement arrived.

Abeal had happily exchanged my kids meal for a grownup burger. No faulting Abeal, however my replacement burger not only weeped so much grease as to leave a puddle on my plate that could have fuelled a small suv - the bottom bun was so saturated with grease that it lost all cohesion and became a mushy gooey paste.

My dining companions meals were, to quote one of them, "meh". The garlic herb pasta was so spicy one of my companions couldn't eat it.

Abeal was gracious and apologized repeatedly. He offered us dessert and asked if we wanted to speak with management. There was no need - this was after all "Strike three" and we wouldn't be returning.

Now look - I know what Jack Astors is all about - it's a chain, a food factory with food technicians making the company fortunes from alcohol sales. And that's OK. BUT there are other, better places to part with your hard earned beer money. They are selling the image of a local gastro but don't have the culinary chops to pull it off. Just because you put Apple Smoked Bacon on your menu doesn't mean you know the first thing about putting together an appetizing burger. It's doesn't take a Guy Savoy, Marc McEwan or Ronald McDonald to recognize a plate that should never leave the kitchen.

Jack - either figure out how to cook, hire someone who can or stop trying to be something you just can't pull off.

As for the consumer - sure, go have a beer, a dill pickle Caesar or libation of your choosing - but this should never be your destination for good meal... Hungry? Try McDonald's!

Jack's on Hunt Club has become our neighbourhood place to go for a quick, always tasty, always welcoming place (with very good beer). This is not fussy, elegant fare. This is consistently fresh, savoury and well-prepared food, sometimes with a fun twist (the board nachos or the beer-and-cheddar soup, for example). In quite literally dozens of visits, our family has worked its way through the menu, and, honestly, while we have our favourites, there are no duds. We love the chicken fingers (yes, really chicken, made here, and always with a "side car" large portion of fresh vegetables), the chicken fajitas (the chicken is juicy, skin-on and the veggies crisp), the burgers, the "bowls", the seared tuna-avocado sandwich, the fish and chips (the Asian slaw is delicious, and reminds me slightly of Thai papaya salad without the papaya)...I could go on, but honestly, all is good, and good value. The biggest thing is the genuine pleasure the staff (including management) seem to take in their work and interactions with customers. The managers are hands-on, all-hands-on-deck people. Everybody works very hard here, and they deliver.

After having established themselves from some minor startup issues this locations has truly come into their own, Offering fantastic service with delicious food. Our latest trip cemented this as a local go-to for light upscale pub affair food.

Cannot recommend the Chicken Quesdillas enough easily a favorite.

So good. Love the virgin strawberry daiquiri. And the chicken fingers. My parents loved the lobster-crab dip, the pita was amazing as well. But the burger... THE BURGER. I absolutely loved it. The service was amazing. The server, Jazmine, was so nice. And one of the managers, Gloria, actually sat down to talk with us -TWICE. So kind! Recommended😀!
