Review Bambu Restaurant - Ottawa

Maher Jebara
High quality and great service. Staff were swift to serve and they did a great job checking up on us constantly. My first time having the sushi and i was impressed, tastes great and was very filling. Lots of space to sit which is great for larger groups. I would highly recommend.

Recommend by my eldest son. Awesome 👏 😎 đŸ€©. Sushi 🍣 đŸ± is amazing. Great staff. Great 👍 service. Special thanks 🙏 to Kevin. They have Sunday evening “all you can eat” from 04:30PM to 08:30PM

Went on Saturday. It was quiet. No one was out on the patio. Had the Chicken Pad Thai. It was excellent. Different flavour from the usual Pad Thai. Had a bit of a tingle to it as well. Had a red wine Sangria with it. Very fruity and tasty. It was not dry at all. Will definitely be back!

I could not recommend ENOUGH! The staff there is wonderful ESPECIALLY Christy she was the sweetest waitress and made our entire night. That woman needs a raise for being so accommodating and an overall good time to be around!! Food was amazing as always and they never fail to disappoint with their sushi in boats. Had an awesome time, perfect for a night out with the girls, date night, family night, anything!

My sons took me to Bambu yesterday it was my first time and it was a wonderful experience! truly The portions were quite big ,much bigger than most sushi restaurants so you get a good value and delicious,Our server was very friendly and helpful gave us excellent service, helped my son by changing his phone , Would definitely return!

Great quality restaurant! We were impressed with the quality. The proteins were tender and nicely seasoned, and very very filling. The Riverside roll was delicious as well. The server was accommodating and friendly!

Food and service 5 stars!!! We ordered 5 diferente different dishes and in minutes less than 30 minutes everything was served. The waiter suggested a delicious dish that was unbelievable good! Highly recommend!!

Bambu honesty has the best Sushi, you get what you pay for, it can seem expensive but the quality is top notch, they have a great selection of Fusion as well, pairs well with Sapporo. Definitely worth checking out! Get some of the speciality rolls, they also do all you can eat on Sunday.

5 of us went for a girls dinner. The sushi was delicious. It is expensive but worth it. Better sushi than AYCE. It was fresh. Our friend got the Pad Thai. It was a really large dish. She liked it as well.

Went here for a large party. The sushi is very good; lots of interesting combinations and the fish was fresh. The other Chinese dishes are not up to par though so I'd skip that and just stick to the sushi. The waiting staff were helpful, but the kitchen was slow. For the price they charge, I expected more.

Amazing sushi options!! I had the shrimp tempura and it was amazing. Possibly the best sushi i've had in a while. The place wasn't crowd for afternoon lunch on Sunday, the waiter also told me that they have all you can eat buffets on Sunday evenings.

I ate here with a couple of friends recently. We heard there was a change in management from a friend so we thought to check it out since out last experience wasn't the best. We went in around 3 so it was relatively quiet. Sat at the bar because we wanted to watch some TV. I ordered sushi and my friends ordered pad thai and general Tao chicken. I didn't want anything raw so the bartender suggested a grilled salmon roll and a side of nigiri after I told her what I liked. It was delicious! The pad thai was a big portion which my friend took half home. The general Tao was okay. We thought it needed a bit more heat and less sweetness. Overall service was great, food good with room to improve a couple things. Definitely coming back to sit on the patio before summer is done.

Great Dim sums. Large portions and value for money. Need to go more often as they have a lot of dishes. Service was good too.

Nothing special here. OK food with above average price. Service was OK. <br/>Asian wanna be at best... there is better close by... Quite disappointing experience!
Costa
Good. Nice place and food mostly good. Sushi very good. Lemongrass grill items super. Like the beef and oyster mushrooms. Chow mein is ok but could be better. Noddles don't have much crispy factor.

I really enjoyed decor.. only if the food was as good as the decor. <br/><br/>The food is no better than the avg take out restaurant in your neighbourhood. They put it on a nice plate so you think its gourmet. I really wish that they would do something about it. IF.... they had killer asian food this place would be golden.<br/><br/>Save you money go to the take out restaurant at the corner and order yourself regular combo #2 .

The new owner ruined the place. This used to be my favorite place to eat sushi, but since the new owner took over, barely anything is made in house. The rice is dry, the soup tastes like it's been sitting on the counter too long and the fish is not fresh. Gross...

Dinner was.... Mediocre and bland. Everything was drenched in sauce even though I asked for LESS SAUCE because I didn't want to make the same mistake as the time before. I ordered a general taos chicken, l didn't order a soup. Service is extremely slow. It wasn't even busy but my whole entire meal for 3 of us took almost a whole hour and a half to completely show up on our table. I've spent a shorter time in a formal fine dining restaurant. I asked to speak to the manager because I wasn't going to eat my sauce soaked chicken dish and I was refused an exchange as the kitchen said "there was nothing wrong with it". My server was apologetic but the manager rude. I clearly saw her standing near the bar area. My server and the manager exchanged words and that was it. My server came back saying that we could be discounted for that dish this time only. It was almost like I did something wrong! <br/><br/>I used to love it here. The people were great and the food and service was bang on. But now its just become the total opposite. This is my last time coming here. I can't even say I'm sorry.

Recommended for lunches. Food is tasty, decor is nice, service is polite but very slow. If your group has more than 6, expect to be here for a minimum of 1.5 hours over a weekday lunch.

I went here for dinner with a girlfriend a couple nights ago , I wasn't sure what to expect but I was very impressed !<br/>The service was great , very quick and friendly. <br/>I had the dumplings to start which were very tasty !<br/>I ordered the sweet and sour chicken , however I was told that the general Tao is better. The only reason I didn't initially order this is because there are no vegetables in this dish. The lovely server let me know she could throw in some veggies for me. <br/>When I got the dish there were snow peas, brocoli, peppers, onions and mushroom. <br/>It was delicious and a huge serving ... I couldn't finish it !<br/>Very pleased with this meal :)

Mediocrity at its most mediocre. Hey there, daring suburbanites! If you're a fan of Montana's or Kelsey's, Bambu is the next logical choice for your Asian food cravings. Why serve shrimp wontons with some foreign-looking dipping sauce when mayo is readily available? Square bowls are great for soup! All preconceptions aside, I wanted to enjoy my food here, you just need to lower your expectations. The few times I've eaten here my meals really weren't that bad, they were really just not that ... anything. Uninspired. The menu is all over the place with scattered offerings of well-known "Asian" dishes. Couldn't help but think of this comic: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/asian_food<br/><br/>Expect to pay almost twice what you would for similar-sounding dishes on Somerset Street. Living downtown, I've come to expect a particular price range for menu items, regardless of where I order them. Bambu is quite a bit above that range, and quality lower. Not all is lost, service is good, very polite and the restaurant itself is pretty nice inside (albeit generic). I'd recommend the T&T take-out across the parking lot if you're hungry and in the area.

OVERPRICED. The restaurant looks fancy ,never tried or heard of it before, looked at menu thought the prices were steep but l was thinking for the price if the food is excellent then worth it.Ordered spring rolls and lemon chicken, the chicken was so soggy, the lemon sauce was terribly sour,l have had it before at other chinese restaurants for 12.oo received more and enjoyed it more, this place charged 16.00 for the lemon chicken and l received what l would say a 1/2 order.l will not be going back,69% IS OVERRATED,l give 25% .

Wonderful service, but food.... Bambu, has a wonderful atmosphere and have lovely staff, also accommodate very well. I was coming in for the first time, with a fair size group for a birthday party. <br/><br/>Our server was very polite, informative, and efficient. Although, in the food department, I wouldn't say it's amazing, but could use a little more work (I am also Asian, and can cook). I ordered a sushi sample platter, and the presentation was beautiful, but some of the sashimi wasn't so fresh, but I loved the salmon. <br/><br/>Despite the negative parts, I do hope from the best!

We Will Not be Back!. We have been here a few times. The food was excellent. But after our last experience we will never be back nor recommend this place to anyone else. We ordered the open end egg rolls and each an order of General Tao's chicken. The food was so undercooked, chewy and soggy. The general tao did not even have the right sauce on the dish. Tasted more like teriyaki and nothing like general tao. Bland, no heat. No offer to correct order only reply was that it must be a different cook. We both left completely full plates and paid a $60 bill for a glass of water and a fortune cookie. The most horrible customer service. We will NEVER be back!!!
Noleafclover62
Great. The service is kind of half assed... but most sushi restaurant in this city... and around the country... suffer from this predicament. The sushi however.... AWESOME! I only go when its all you can eat on weekends... and I am never disapointed. I love their take on the viet dishes. I would go back... again and again and again... even if the service sucks.
Hellokitty905
Would rather shove a fork in my eye before I eat here again. I wont go into details...but with the service my friend & I received and the lack of hospitality and competency that the managers had, I would have had a better experience eating at a run down gas station in the middle of no where. The managers made no effort to correct an issue with our meal and when WE had to approach THEM after 3 tries, they made it seem like we were wasting THEIR time by coming to eat there. Treat their guests like they could care less that your there. What a shame.

Slow service and AWFUL managers!. (May 31, 2014) The food was only ok and the service was TERRIBLE! It took approximately 30 minutes to receive only drinks. After an issue with one of the drinks the bar manager and restaurant manager were not helpful, and actually rude. I had been a server for a long time- I can excuse an overwhelmed server for slow service; but TWO rude managers is unacceptable. <br/>Not to mention, when we approached the bar to try and get our drinks direct from the bar tender, aka bar manager, she immediately turned on the blender and refused any assistance by means of yelling over the noise she had just created! She did not even send our server over to us.<br/>It wasn't very busy and I am extremely disappointed with the service and treatment we received. I will never go back.

What happened to customer service?. My wife and friend went to Bambu Friday evening and had a terrible experience. They were not happy with the drinks served and asked for a new one which they were denied. They were told "that is the way they are made" They then asked to speak with a manager and were given the run around. The manager did not approach them and apologize for the inconvenience. They asked to have the drink removed from the bill and were again denied and it turned into an argument. What happened to "the customer is always right"? I wanted to try Bambu as it is close to home. I have been in the restaurant industry for 18 years, this is an embarrassment for the establishment, maybe the owners need to evaluate staff and management team? Will not return.

I love the sushi !!! The sushi is fresh and amazing. I highly reccomend going there if you are a sushi lover. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is great! You can get dressed up or be casual. I always find the servers extremely helpful and they provide great service.

Don't waste you money or time here. Actually was able to start my Urbanspoon account and critique this restaurant as I wait. Service from older male server was aweful, never asked for what we wanted to drink, was busy chatting with friends in the booth next to us. My wife's side salad was dried up and wilted. She has food allergies and advised the server, but yet sushi arrived with the the allergen in it. She quickly told him, but all the sushi cook did was remove (the egg)... Cross contamination, I guess he forgot that part of his food safety course. My bento box # 2 was, okay at best. Salad was dried out, beef was horrible, spring rolls greasy... the rice, the saving grace.<br/>Server never asked us if food was okay, haven't seen him for the last 10 minutes. We've been done for 15 mins now, I'm just going to get up and leave if this keeps up. Well, all I can do is recommend you STAY AWAY FROM BAMBÚ!!!
Lux Diner
Downhill Slide. While Bambu continues to dish out sushi that is above-par in comparison to other area restaurants, their other menu items are lacking flavour; likely the result of recent recipe changes that are falling FLAT (with the exception of the open-ended pork egg rolls which have improved)! Their won-ton soup was at one time, some of the best I've ever had however; it is now watered-down and tasteless. Unfortunately, this seems to be the pattern with other menu favourites such as their fried vermicelli, beef with oyster mushrooms, Szechuan chicken and even the fried rice. Please Bambu, bring back your old recipes to keep your dedicated regulars coming back.

Delicious!. I was worried when I saw the reviews here, but I was pleasantly surprised. I had baby bok choy which were delightfully gingerly and the salt and pepper shrimp and tofu which was hot and fresh. the service was a little slow (but the food came quickly!), however our waiter was nice and seemed busy. I would definitely return!
Sarspars
I have read a lot of reviews about poor service, but I must say the hostess was polite, we were seated quickly and our server was very friendly and helpful with dish recommendations. We enjoyed some dim sum, edamame, sushi, rice wraps & a vermicellie dish. The dim sum is really great and comparable<br/>in taste & quality to many I had on Somerset. I am happy we only ordered 1 sushi roll (Philadelphia roll) as it was not that great, which was a bit of a disappointment. All in all it was a good experience, the ambience was nice and the food was good.

The downward spiral.... Bambu.... where do I start... you've hosted us for at LEAST a dozen meals and until now your mediocrity was passable as a last-minute-forget it the next day- dinner option. Tonight, however, you've lost us for good:<br/><br/>1) 5 dishes - two completely wrong, even after the order was repeated back to us. <br/>2) Sushi - shells left on the shrimp. Now, I know that the 'decorative' end pieces still have some shell/tail on them, but not in the middle two pieces. Lazy.<br/>3) Magic Erasers.. I mean.. shrimp balls.... you're right beside the best asian market in Ottawa - can't you just run over, buy some fresh shrimp, batter it and fry it? 15 minutes, tops.. I'd even wait for the chef to run over to get it if it meant I didn't have to worry about how I'm going to pass what I just ate. <br/>4) Beef fried rice - I called three other restaurants and confirmed that beef fried rice should have beef in it. Not a single piece. <br/><br/>I've had great meals at Bambu before but the quality and care have vanished. Frankly, there are better, cheaper, fresher alternatives in the area. Save your money, look elsewhere.

Uncomfortable. We were sat in the bar window side in some funky looking chairs. The problem with this resto began here with chairs so uncomfortable I had to ball up my jacket and place it behind my back so I could reach the table and breath properly. We started with the egg rolls that came out overdone and so crispy they crumbled when you bit into them. Strike one. Our second choice the hunan dumplings came out next. Very pleasing to the eye with the chopped peanuts liberally sprinkled over top. That is where the positive ended. They were not very fresh and the sauce was on the thin side with a tiny portion size, strike two. Our mains came out and my crispy beef was swimming in a sickly sweet lifeless sauce that had no spiciness to it at all woefully under seasoned, strike three. I do admit that Asian food is not my favorite but the take out by our place just down the street is much better.

This was my second time here and although it's a little pricier than most other Asian fusion restaurants in Ottawa, I find the food tastey and atmosphere very nice. Good selection of drinks as well. Great spot for a date or dinner with the girls. I tried the AYCE menu and for $25 it was a good option to try a few different things. Everything we had was delicious. Waiter was quick and friendly. I would go again.

Just got back from Bambu. Is it Bambu or UBambu? What's up with that? Anyway, did the all you can eat. I was a little scared of the $25 price tag, but I pounded back the meats there. And the egg rolls. They were open ended which was a nice touch. Haven't seen that before in the all you can eat world. Our waiter was an the ball. Just kept bringin out the plates nice and fast. Answered all of our questions. Our experience with the service was excellent. Super nice inside the place too. Pretty classy. Just amazing quality for all you can eat. Really happy with this place all around.

Have been to Bambu a lot and last night marked the day we'll never go back. We had the worst service ever and once speaking to the GM, who was helpful and gave us a discount, but you could tell was exasperated with our server and wasn't at all overly apologetic. <br/><br/>We were not a large group of people, only 5 and while the restaurant was full the rest of the tables were either receiving food, eating or just finishing up. Our server was so busy when she stopped by our table 15 minutes after us being there she was not friendly or open. We ordered a pitcher of drinks and a coke. It took 25 minutes for her to come back and tell us they couldn't make the pitcher because they were out of 1 ingredient. She never brought the coke! So she took our drink orders. One of us wanted to sub in a more expensive salad for the one that comes with the sushi meal and you wouldn't know if we were asking for the moon! She was clueless. I tried to order a soup, she had to go find out if they actually had any and when she came back she said no, pick something else. No apology or sympathy and put me on the spot to pick something else. <br/><br/>Food arrived sporadically. Appetizers took 30 minutes from start to finish to arrive at the table. Entries were the same. The friend who ordered sushi got hers when we were all just about done. They forgot the wasabi and we had to get up to find someone to get us some. Server never even explained what sushi was what. Plopped down the plate and left. Came back when we had only 2 dishes down to see how things were and we never saw her until the bill came.<br/><br/>I had a mango salad and it was terrible. Boxed lettuce topped with under ripe mangos and stale cashews. So disappointing for $6!! Then had the shrimp pad Thai, shrimp were perfectly cooked but the pad Thai lacked flavour and was overpowered by raw onions! There was a weird powdery texture. I ate only the shrimp and left the noodles. <br/><br/>When I asked for a pitcher of water because it as warm and being the pregnant one at the table I wanted lots of water she said she couldn't and when I asked for a bigger glass I got a skinny highball that held 3 mouthfuls. <br/><br/>Getting the bill was ridiculous. First of all she had no idea who had what so she could split it. Then when it came on one she charged us for the $21 pitcher we never got. The GM came over and he was actually ready for a fight with us!! The he tells us well they actually did have the missing ingredient for the drink in stock! Wow thanks for letting us know. <br/><br/>We got so frustrated with his tone that the ladies in the group got up and left our husbands to deal with him and the bill. He did discount our bill and offered a gift card but we said we'd most likely never be back. <br/><br/>Why is it so hard to have a decent restaurant with good service outside of downtown!?
M
Worst service ever!! Every single person that works here was rude and not friendly at all, except for one of the hostess. Some of us showed up a little later than the rest of the group so I asked for extra plates, utensils and water (which they should of automatically taken notice of). It never came until I have asked for the THIRD time. The waiter didn't tell us anything about the menu so when he came to take our orders, some of us wanted to order items from the lunch menu and didn't know. The waiter seemed annoyed and walked away. Our food was brought out, never asked which plate belonged to who and was left on the table for whoever. The waiter had forgot one of the order and our friend didn't receive his plate until the end. We asked for lots of hot sauce and had to ask for more because they gave one little plate for our big group. Overall the food was okay, nothing special. The only good thing about this place is that the decor is nice. We will never come here again.

Worst service EVER. From the moment my friends and I walked in we received the absolute WORST service ever. You would think they would have treated us better since we were a big group and they would have wanted big tips but no. <br/>We had to ask the girl to bring us water THREE times and her only response was "K." Then our main server was EXTREMELY rude.. a couple of my friends were undecided of what they wanted and he said "Are we ready to move this along..?" clearly annoyed at us. Not once did he smile or act friendly in anyway. <br/>And then for some reason we had a third waiter bringing us our food as well who did not say a word to us, just put the food on the table and walked away without asking who's it was or anything. <br/>On top of all this, they did not bring our meals all at the same time... my brother didn't even get his until most of us were finished ours and all the waiters said was "sorry"... no explanation or anything.<br/> The only good thing about this experience was that my meal was pretty good.. but definitely NOT worth going back for.
MegaPov
Officially the WORST service I have ever received. From the moment my friends and I walked through the door. Staff seemed very lazy and never came around to give us menus, fill water. When they did, they were very short and kept walking away before we could speak. Unbelievably rude. Food was ok. I would've picked grungy bar food over this place though. Not a single person was kind as we had three different RUDE waiters oddly.
Peter
Disappointed!!. Heard a lot about Bambu. Finally got to try it. DISAPPOINTED!!<br/>Not very good food. Had the Vegetable Tempura - batter was soggy and pieces stuck together. YUCK! General Tao Chicken - bland and tasteless, no heat! Pad Thai - tasted flat, no jump or spark to the flavor. Where was the tamarind? Shrimp in Lobster sauce was ok at best. Our server didn't seem to care about our table. Very inattentive. Too bad. I was looking forward to a good meal, was disappointed. Nothing authentic here, just bad North American Chinese food.
BasilChili
Stopped by for lunch this weekend. The food is okay, but the meat has a strange texture. Ordered a diet coke and got a refill. I was charged twice and the waitress told me in a rude way that I shouldn't just expect free refills. Won't be returning. Customer service is not great.
Garum Chia
Expensive and bland. We found the food to be bland and expensive. The decor is nice but the food was too sweet rather then spicy. Does not taste like authentic thai food.
Marina
Had the shrimp tempura, cali rolls, and beef noodles with black bean mmm so good! I enjoyed the food especially beef black bean noodles
Green
Expensive.. Having eaten at TONS of asian restaurants in the GTA, I was surprised at how tiny the portions are at this restaurant, considering the excessive prices. $5 for 3 tiny spring rolls, holy s***. They put everything on these fancy plates to make it look nice but honestly, for the price you're paying it's just not worth it. <br/><br/>The only nice thing about it is looks. As in, they have fancy looking decor, and put all the food on square plates, which may explain the exorbitant prices actually...<br/><br/>Eat here only if you want nice things to look at, but if you want to actually get what you're paying for, try anywhere else.
Gastronomette
Food is generally too sweet and too salty. Had Szechuan crispy beef, steamed BBQ pork buns and chicken pad Thai. Note: The menu reads 3 steamed BBQ pork buns for $3.95 but they only serve 2. They are too lazy to update their menu. Will not be back here sorry.

All you can eat fantastical ness!. Being an avid foodie and lover of All you can eat sushi (in moderation), when we got to BambĂč on a Sunday and saw their AYCE option, the choice was obvious. However, what is even more amazing about their AYCE, is that throughout the week the chef picks out the clients' votes and builds a menu which is then the AYCE option for Sundays. <br/><br/>Not just that, but their options are so different from other restaurants. When do you ever see Pad Thai and curry seafood in an AYCE menu? Not just that, delicious Pad Thai? I can honestly say we feasted like kings and will be making BambĂč Sundays a family tradition. Way to go BambĂč on your innovative thinking!

All time favourite. Love Bambu - have been multiple times. Can never go wrong with the crispy beef, coconut chicken curry and the open ended egg rolls!
Jabber Wock
Excellent appetizers, underwhelming main courses. One caveat: I've only been here once, so perhaps I'll save my final judgment for future visits. That being said, the open-ended eggrolls were excellent, set apart from the Golden Palace gold standard by only a slight aftertaste and a tendency to fall apart during devouring. The dim sum -- which is happily available at all times -- also proved enjoyable in the form of our steamed pork buns. The main courses were a little disappointing by comparison; the pad thai was completely ordinary (albeit with unusually thick noodles), and the beef with mixed vegetables was not the highest quality. I was saddened by this, since up until the main course we had been impressed with the atmosphere, service, and appetizers. I'll likely return to sample more main courses.<br/><br/>PS: I'll have to echo the thoughts of some other reviewers. The poor staff, while definitely nice to customers, seemed harried and overworked even while the restaurant was half-full. Perhaps they need to hire more servers!
Robb Angelo
Great Dim Sum. Love the Dim Sum menu. A tad on the pricy side however the menu is quite extensive so it allows you to have almost anything you like, and me being a Dim Sum fan I can take guests to Bambu they can get whatever they wish, and I can stick to my fav, the dim sum. <br/><br/>Reso's recommended, service a tad on the slow side, likely due to the full house most evenings.
Chris R
We order a mix of Vietnamese and sushi. The Vietnamese food arrived and we had to wait another 40 min for the sushi to arrive. Very disappointing that half our table had to watch the other half eat. There was no explanation from the staff and only apologized when we asked finally what was taking so long. Not a good experience.
David Micucci
Awesome. Food and service are very good. Best pad thai i've had in ottawa and very good selection of different asian foods. Try the all you can eat menu on sunday nights, it is well worth it. Great place, been 10 times and loved it every time.
Marya
Good food, good service. I enjoyed the food and the service was very good! It was my first time eating miso soup, and man is that stuff nasty! If you don't put salt on your food, don't try it. The coconut curry chicken was delicious! I really enjoyed it and the arrangement was quite tasteful. The outdoor seating area is great, so grab a table on the patio if you can! The view isn't too great--it's in a strip mall, so I'd blame the designers for that rather than the restaurant.
Alex Joannides
Delicious! Do the penut dumplings!!!
Karen Williams
Service was great...food not so much.. I feel bad for this restaurant’s staff. They always seem to be understaffed during very busy times. The service is excellent however. Food is alright, but way too expensive for the portion you get. Most dishes tend to be too salty, greasy or flavorless. Tiny gluten-free menu, barely any options. And I find it absolutely RIDICULOUS that a glass of pop is 2.50 and you get NO free refills. Hostess, bartender and servers are all very friendly but they are clearly worked way too hard. And not to mention, it’s felt like 100 degrees in there the past couple times I’ve gone and all I can think about is how awful it must be to work under those conditions. Poor servers.

Simply Amazing.<br/>We went for wedding anniversary dinner with our friends. We all liked it from starters to main dish to desserts.<br/>Sushies are very fresh and delicious.Even the all you can eat for $25 menu is also superb...good ambiance .Sure we will go back.<br/>Wow the Landing and take off of flights are also a good view :)

Unhappy customer. I have been a regular customer of Bambu since they opened. Their food is amazing and though they do have their off days, overall I am a content customer. But lately, I'm not so sure about this place anymore. I have been more than understanding when the place is packed but it's been lately where service has been extremely slow and the servers seemed very distressed and not very personal with his/her table. I will not name names or genders to protect the staff members there. It seems like they are short staffed because my server had about 8 tables at once and they were running around constantly and rarely checking up on us and his/her other tables. Someone who looked like a manager was at the front of the restaurant but she wasn't really looking keen on helping her struggling employees. There was also a hostess standing at the front but they were both just STANDING there when clearly someone needed to help my poor server. <br/><br/>Im not sure whats happening but if this continues on, I won't be returning to Bambu until things shape up; meaning staffing properly so servers can pay more attention to their tables and provide actual SERVICE or training properly as well because a dish was brought to the wrong table multiple times until it reached the correct table(which was mine). <br/><br/>Come on Bambu. You were once great. What happened?
Haussler
Great Food- Service poor. The food was great, we had a number of dishes and all were great. Went on a saturday night and clearly not enough servers as the place was full.
Disappointed
Disappointed. I went in with a large group of girlfriends. I ordered something that ended up tasting like there was way too much vegetable oil in it. Nothing like the description on the menu. I asked to order something else and was told I had to pay for the first order. I asked for the manager and he came out after a lengthy wait and told me a bunch of questionable reasons why he can't let me order another meal. In the end I asked for the contact info of the general manager. The manager went back inside and refused to come back and speak with me. He would not give me contact info nor would he give me his name. I left and am planning to complain with the BBB and try and find contact info for the owner of the place. This is a terrible place. Do not go there. More than half of my friends did not finish their meal and left it because it did not taste good. This is watered down Asian food. Terrible food and worse service.
Andre
Worse EVER. Recent family gathering. We were harassed 3 times while eating very ordinary food. Told we could not feed our 4 year old food not purchased in the restaurant, 3 times, standing there delivering their rehearsed speech right in front of our son. He wondered why all the fuss, so did we. The 3rd time, he had finish eating so we left suggesting their behavior ruined the family gathering. When I alluded to not paying, she threaten calling the cops. Never again...BTW, food was not worth the price.

Poor Gluten. With regards to the Gluten free offerings I found this aspect of the dining experience to be extremely poor. Our gluten free "menu" consisted of a small crumpled piece of notepad with the gluten free items on it and we were supposed to refer these items against the regular menu.<br/><br/>I certainly didn't expect a completely different menu but chicken scratches on a crumpled piece of paper did not seem too professional, especially when one of the items was the lemon chicken. The lemon chicken on the menu is breaded!! Our confidence after this was very low. Offering gluten free soya sauce does not make them a confident gluten free option.

Awsome sushi. My partner and I are sushi enthusiasts and we have found that this restaurant is on par with the best sushi restaurants in town. Everything is always fresh, and for the quality, it is a good price. I go quite frequently and I have always found the service to be great. If I had any questions about the sushi, the server was either always able to answer me or willing to find out. Additionally, they've always been accomadating. For example, when I didn't want spicy mayo in my maki roll, I just told them to leave it out, and they've never made an issue out of it. Finally, they always have parking, which is always appreciated.

The food was ok. Nothing special. Ambience is too classy with just ok food. Portions were small and price too high. Not recommended!

Not "good" food, not terrible either. It's americanized, salty, greasy, flavourless thai/asian food. We had a noodle dish and it was way too salty; our second dish was a curry dish that was supposed to be spicy but it's wasn't at all. Our spring rolls were disappointing... I'd never go back. If you want good Thai, go to Siam kitchen in old Ottawa south :-)

Terrible. The food plates were tasteless and unattractive. Sushi was delicious but apart from that... Yuck.... Even the service. Very disappointed...warning all my friends and family! Don't bother, waste $$$

Lunch for Two. Two of us went for lunch today. Szechwan Crispy beef was very well done and not too spicy. The lunch portion of the beef came with a side of rice and a spring roll. We split a Bento Box. Everything was well prepared. No complaints with the food. Combined, both portions made for a very good value. <br/><br/>Atmosphere was nice, not too busy, and the waiter was courteous and attentive. <br/><br/>What we were most impressed with, as odd as it may seem, was how refreshing the water is. We were told that all the taps use the same filtration system. Smart idea if you ask me. <br/><br/>Overall, good lunch, and I'll probably be back even just for a drink of water :p

Ok food, bad service. That about sums it up. The food was fine, the prices reasonable, but the service was horrible. Not rude, just clueless! Won't be back any time soon.

Spring rolls and mango salad were good. Pad Thai was kind of a disappointment, could do better at a food court IMO.

Great understanding of gluten-free eating. We have visited this restaurant four times in the past six months since it opened and are thrilled with the food and the service. When it first opened, service was slow and they made a couple of mistakes, but it's been better every time. Their sushi is delicious and their knowledge of gluten free food is a blessing to those of us who are hesitant about eating out. They provide gluten-free soya sauce, on request. It's ideal for take-out if you are driving by, as well.

I ordered the pad thai, it had no flavour, and was covered in oil. I went at lunch and they gave me a dinner price pad thai, so I paid 15 dollars for a pile of grease. I could not finish it so i gave it to some co-workers, and they could not stand the taste either. It ended up in the garbage where it belongs. I also ordered the tom yum soup it was not spicy at all, barely any flavour and it tasted like I was just eatting fish oil. My friend ordered the pad thai and dumplings, he thought they were extremely greasy and tasteless. I do not recommend this resturant to anyone.<br/><br/>Thank you

I had high expectations but was a little disappointed. The price was a little high. The general Tao's chicken was a little disappointing. The crispy beef was alright as were the spring rolls. I'll probably go bak again sometime, but I'm still looking for an Asian restaurant that meets my expectations.

Bambu in Hunt Club. I don't have much to say and I don't write any bad comments on sites..However, I just have to for this one. Overall, it was a nice design, but food was just average and I wouldn't come back. Price is way up there too!!!

Love this restaurant!. I am Asian and live only two blocks down from Chinatown, so I know my Asian food quite well. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of their food--tasty, non-greasy, and a nice selection that includes several Asian cuisines. The desserts are also good and not something you could get in Chinatown because they are original creations e.g. green tea cheesecake (yum!)<br/> <br/>I wouldn't believe the negative reviews because at this point, they are so busy, you may have to wait in line or call for reservations. The tables were full to the brim and many people ordered in and arrived for pick-up. Their high numbers are very telling and word is certainly getting around! For those of you who swear that you'll never be back, you may end up with friends who invite you because they love it a lot!<br/><br/>My friend has been to this place five times in only two weeks (she feels that she is addicted and so is her husband). Her book club enjoyed the food immensely and one of her close girlfriends is now making Bambu a monthly staple. <br/><br/>I hope you'll make Bambu a staple too . . . but get in before it becomes too busy.

Modern day bad food. Beautiful decor, pleasant staff. thats about all i can say that is good about this restaurant. party of 5, we had assorted sushi platter which tasted even worse than the ones you can buy at loeb or loblaws for takeout, coconut curry chicken which taste of pure coconut milk and boiled chicken, pad thai that i cannot emphasize enough TASTED LIKE NOTHING, just boiled noodles, crispy beef which can't go wrong because its deep fried beef soaked in overly sweet sauce, and their special fried rice that was covered in fish eggs which made each bite the most awkward taste/texture in my mouth. the only good thing about this meal was my dessert which was most likely store bought, cut me a slice and over charge all of us for it. All in all.. I 100% DO NOT recommend this place for chinese food, sushi, or thai.

Sushi. We order sushi take out regularly and find the quality quite good. The prices are fair, the portions generous and there is a good selection. It is fresh and good tasting. We also order the tempura and it is crispy without being greasy. They have messed up our order a few times (sushi instead of sashimi) and the manager has really made an effort to correct this. We love the place and think that maybe some of the negative reviews happened when Bambu just opened and hadn't settled in yet. I think that this place is really trying to find it's stride and will succeed.

Generic, Boring and Expensive. Lackluster food, overpriced, and generic tasting. I was expecting more. maybe it was just the food i've ordered. service was slow. servers were friendly though.

My hubby and undecided to go here for our date night so we made a reservation and we were placed at the bar where we were constantly bumped into the food had no flavor and the creme brûlée was obviously made from a package and three days prior and was dry as sand. You could not pay me to eat there again.

Nice looking restaurant on the inside and the appetizers were very good. We had a late dinner there, ordered 2 appetizers that were both very good. We also ordered 3 main course dishes that were brought out to the table while we were still working on the appetizers. It was surprising because we didn't order our main courses until we started eating the apps. As the food was laid out on the table we realized that each of the three courses were soaked in sauce, swimming in it really. It reminded both of us of food that we could eat at a crappy Chinese food buffet restaurant. The food came out so quickly because they have mass amounts just kept warm and ready to go. Nothing is made to order. Our 2 appetizers, 3 main courses and 1/2 litre of wine was $100. Definitely didn't get the bang for the buck at all. Save yourself some money and hit up your favorite buffet place instead On a side note, their lunch menu is different and got some decent reviews.

Went there for lunch. Really great Dim Sum choices. Large portions and very fresh. The sushi we ordered was also very good. It's great to be able to order a variety of Asian food.

Just ok. They have a very large menu containing Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, and some Indian dishes. Nothing seems to be their specialty so everything is "ok" but very generic and "safe".

First Visit - Just OK. My business partner and I went for lunch, which we do often. We are always looking for good food and good value for lunch. The menu offers a faily wide variety of dishes and I wonder if they really specialize in any of them.<br/><br/>We ordered a fried noodle dish with beef and a Basil beef dish from the lunch area on the menu.<br/>Both our dishes arrived and unfortunately they were "just ok". Service was ok as well but I sensed our server might have been a little troubled by the 2 women next to us that appeared not overly pleased with their meals.<br/><br/>We ate our and paid and left. Unfortunatley we both felt it was "just ok".

Tried it twice. First time at dinner: pad thai noodles ends were burnt and gave an unsatisfying burnt flavour to the whole dish. Secong time at lunch: veggies looked fresh much more egg in the pad Thai and great tasting. Much better than the first time. Vegetable spring rolls are fantastically crunchy and tasty. Lovely decor with plenty of seating. High ceilings make it SUPER noisy though.

The basil flavour was delightful and the peppers and onions were nice and tender crisp. A nice lunch size for one.

From their dim sum and bento boxes, to their pad thai, sushi and lunch specials, all now hold a very special place in my heart. And no, I'm not bored of coming here yet. And I doubt I ever will be. I've now introduced the place to so many people. It's my go-to lunch meeting spot.
