Review Lowertown Brewery - Ottawa

Mack Moody
The patio and bar have a great "vibe". The service has always been great especially Chris (Always made sure drinks were full and allergy concerns were looked after). They're beers are really good lots of styles for whatever you're feeling, the cocktails are always delicious some are a little sweet but still really good. The food is really good and fairly priced for the portions size great for sharing and dates. Highly recommend

Unfortunately I had to leave this review in hopes the owner or manager takes the time to look at them. Upon arrival, we were seated quickly but that's where it went downhill. The restaurant was not busy as all and it took over 10 minute for someone to come and take our drink order as well as our dinner is order. Ordered meals, with some special requests. Dinner showed up a few minutes later without those requests met. Not a big deal, but when you ask for something not to be placed on a sandwich (in this case bacon) you'd expect that it would be done. Beyond that the salad dressing was absolutely disgusting (balsamic dressing) and the waiter never came back over to ask if we were enjoying our food. After all this, we sat and timed how long it would take for someone to come back and ask for for anything else or even if we wanted the bill. (30 minutes went by until we could flag down a different server) to request our bill. The cold draft from the front door being opened constantly just topped the evening off. Definitely will not be returning!

We went for Queers and Beers and had a great time. Our waitress Jamie was great! Even though it was super busy she came to check our table regularly and our food and drinks came really quickly. She was great! Highly recommend!

I found myself at lowertown on Wednesday night last week. I was with my two best friends Arash and Sajjid who were visiting from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia. We were walking through the market and the asked me where to find the best local craft in the city. Without hesitation we popped over to Lowertown. Phyllis was our server and they were impressed with both the beers and the service. We finished off our night with a shot of tequila. Arash and Sajjid both remarked that they will definitely be sure to return to Lowertown next time they are visiting the capital.

Great staff..very nice...venue is dated and very noisy when filled up with patrons; we can't hear each other talk. They need sound reduction baffles. Nice beer selection. Food menu is interesting however most of the fried options are overcooked in overheated oil and served looking as if it was burnt and not adequately seasoned.

Myself and a couple friends popped in here last night for some drinks at the bar, and received fantastic service from the bartender with the red hair. I have dietary restrictions that don't allow me to have certain sugars, and she was very accommodating with modifying the drink recipes so that I could still enjoy a cocktail and not feel sick.

I’ve been here twice, each time I got amazing service from Jaime. She is quick, kind, and overall very welcoming. Food is great & drinks are flavourful! Will definitely be returning!!

We were quickly seated on a busy Saturday and served cold refreshments, but the food was sub par. This restaurant certainly has the location advantage but there are better places around for food. The beer was good at least.

This was my third, and last visit to Lowertown. As with my previous visits, I was completely underwhelmed, and disappointed, but I wanted to give a fair chance as they were pretty new on my previous visits. The food is over priced, and the portions too small. The only reason I came this time was because it was Winterlude, and a beautiful sunny day, and I knew they had a winter patio. Unfortunately, the patio was the only thing they had going for them. The service was painfully slow (we were told it was an hour wait for food!! Pardon me? Are you serious?) The drink service was equally slow, only one girl being run off her feet outside, and even to go inside to order, the bartender was swamped. Being a great weather weekend, and last day of Winterlude, they should have had more staff on. That was a no brainer for sure. And don't even get me started on the beer. Dirty water for the most part. So you have a great space, and are riding the coat tails of the craft beer scene. Good for you. Don't just sling the same old crap with poor service, become something good. There are so many eateries in the market already, become somewhere that people really want to go, and offer something nobody else does. Start with your beer and service, then work on the menu and pricing. I will throw one bone though. On my first visit in the winter of 2014, there was a fantastic male bartender, who knew his craft, and mixed me some of the best cocktails I have ever had!

Small portions, very expensive ($4 for a tiny apple juice for a child), I had the Brisket which didn't taste like much, was very small and 1/2 to 2/3 was fat and my wife had fish and chips which had no fish flavor whatsoever other then the smokey after taste. The fries are really not good in our opinion, pre-cooked and re-cooked upon order making them yellow, hard and taste a little burnt, we are usually huge French fry fans, but not here. We also found that the menu was very small/limited. 2 adult meals, 1 kids meal, 1 kids apple juice and 2 pop for lunch: $69.50 taxes included (that total doesn't include the Tip). All to say pricey for very disappointing food, I don't mind paying that price or more when the food is good. I definately will not be recommending this place unfortunately. If the owners are reading this: I say back to the drawing board .... and don't waste all that space in there with little to no tables to accommodate more guests. Maybe if you had more room for more people and filled the place by offering great food you wouldn't need to charge as much or could afford a little higher quality/flavor from suppliers .... just a thought.

Managed to stop in for a snack and a tasting flight, during my recent trip back to Ottawa. The beer was very drinkable and the assorted pickles we ordered were tasty, but the service was lacking. Our server seemed very disinterested and was happy to just go through the motions of her job. The patio was infested with flies and wasps and there was a distinct scent of garbage throughout most of our visit. Overall, I would give the beer a 3.5/5, but the service and the patio experience were really disappointing, making the overall rating a 2/5. Next time, we'll have to sit at the bar, skip dealing with the servers, and just enjoy the beer.

The food was amazing! But unfortunately, our server seemed to not care about anything: mixed up our order, never came back for additional drinks (after our initial order); we had to ask another server for our bill and a take-away box!

Excellent location with great service. A good selection of beer to choose from and a nice menu. We did the butchers poutine and it was amazing, the pickled jalapenos add a nice kick. Good atmosphere only negative would be the chairs make a horrible loud noise when you move them, not a great fit with the flooring.

I usually go in the summer. Last night i wanted to see the inside and have a hot meal. The smell of something like smoked bacon drew me in. The staff was very friendly and sat us at nice cosy table. Food was excellent and great service. Will return in the winter again and looking forward to sitting out on the patio this summer.

On the market in ottawa. 5-6 micro beers on tap. Big patio to enjoy a beer in the sun.

Good beer, good selection& in a great location of Byward Market. Hubby& I stopped in for a quick beer after touring the neighbourhood. Server was knowledgeable & helpful in helping me make a choice in what beer to select. I'd return.

My daughter wanted to have wings and the patio was full so we asked to sit inside since all the doors were open anyway and we got the BEST service ever from our new friend Matty. The food was good but it was that much better because of the service. Thanks Matty!

Beer was good, service was good. Burger and ribs we ate we pretty bad. Dry and lacking flavour. Dissapointing candied bacon, which is almost hard to do.

As part of the Lowertown staff & prep cook , I am partial as in" I get to sample the food in production. Constant flavor and the freshest ingredients along with Chef Kyle's highest standards go into everything we make. As is seen in the rave reviews about the food. I hope the customers that had a bad experience return so we may redeem your experience. Best regards: John Kearns

Enjoyed the food and the beer! Good portions and quality food, great beer.

Go upstairs to the Sens House. Much better food. Service at the Lower town is excellent. I just wasn't impressed with their Byward Burger. Viv's Market burger didn't look any better.

Didn't get a chance to try their menu, was in for drinks. Great stout wish I had known that they brew on site and sell beer to take home. But a good restaurant none the less. Would have preferred slightly faster service but I will note that it was busy. Would definitely go back for early evening drinks and maybe a bite to eat.

The place was busy when we arrived but at 8pm on. Saturday night that is pretty much what you would expect. We waited about 30 minutes for a table and had a drink at the bar while we did. The service was what you would expect again at a busy bar - no problem. The table service was good, the food excellent and the bill much less than expected. All in all a good place and I will be back. Thanks for a great evening.
