Review La Strada - Ottawa

Long Tran
We were there this weekend and loved everything! The service was great and the food excellent - we really enjoyed the special (ribs). Definitely the best carbonara I've had in the city. Negroni & Tiramisu were both on point. Great value too, would go again anytime.

Both my wife and I really enjoy going to La Strada. There is great options to suit all tastes, prices are reasonable for the quality of your food. They staff well and your waiter/waitresse are very friendly. The food, spectacular! I have a big appetite and with an app and a main often dont have room for dessert. I would strongly suggest you try it.

Had a birthday dinner for four there last night. Absolutely delicious, all food was just excellently prepared. Great service, and a very nice venue. Can’t recommend it enough!

We had a table of 9 visit La Strada for the first time, it was a fantastic overall restaurant experience. Appetizers included: fried calamari, grilled calamari and fried smelts - the calamari was very tender and tasty, the smelts had a special little 'kick' to them! There were also oven roasted ribs that I opted to have as a main. These ribs were, bar none, the best ribs that I've ever enjoyed!! A bit sticky, a bit spicy, nice garlic flavour and fall off the bone delicious!! Mains included: grilled lamb chops, veal parmigiano, veal involtini, lobster ravioli, lasagna and manicotti. Every dish was served piping hot and beautifully presented. Everyone in the group thoroughly enjoyed their meals! We were welcomed by Rick as we walked in and were treated wonderfully by staff. Carlo, Rick's brother is the chef - I popped into the kitchen following our meal to thank him and was met by a pro who took great pride in our enjoyment. You can see that a happy chef is a successful chef! Future trips to Ottawa will definitely include a return trip to La Strada!!

La Strada has incorporated a takeout option very successfully. Food is always on time, well organized and the quality transports to home without a loss of flavour. Pasta is still the best in the City.

We went for my friends 30th. We were a group of 6 and none of us had been there before. Our server was great- very friendly, social and attentive. The food was tasty and everyone was happy with their meal. We only wished there was more of it!! We were a bit worried being seated by the window because of the cold, but they had heaters all along the sides so it was not an issue at all.

The food was quite good, service was excellent. It can get a tad expensive but that's true of any fancy Italian restaurant. Please have the decency to dress nice to this place, you're just embarrassing yourself. My one complaint is that the parking lot is a dirt parking lot and being it rained it was a huge puddle so I had to sacrifice my right heel in puddle water to make it out. The plates we order are; veal, lasagna, the sampler and the pescatore.

Look at the photos need I say more. Another one of Ottawas 'must try restaurants'. The service was great. Really familynlike feel when you are in the place. But by far the biggest thing to boast about is the quality and taste of the food. Definitely going back for a cozy date with my fiancee. Good job La Strada.
Average food, poor service. We ordered rack of Lamb medium rare, and it came medium well. The server never came back to check on our meal. No chance to fix the mistake nor ask for more bread. And we were rushed to pay our bill because the restaurant was closing in 15 minutes. Will never go back or recommend to anyone. Disappointed!!!!

Wow. A really enjoyable experience. Lovely authentic Italian food at a reasonable price. (the lamb and steak were out of out price range.) The menu has a lot of variety so there is something for everyone. (even the cocktails!) The wine list is compact and full of consignment wines but the staff are very helpful in matching the wine to the food. We will return!

Phenomenal classic Italian food. A family favourite for many years. Always consistent fresh delicious fare. Attentive service and comfortable atmosphere.

Love La Strada. Have been going for over 20 years and the food never dissapoints. It's traditional Italian in a lovely environment with professional service. Free parking too!

Highly recommend the zucchini - best in the city. And haven't gone wrong with the canneloni over the years, but my suggestion is to ask them to use both bechamel and tomato sauce - it's how they did it old school before people wanted healthier options.

Tiramisu never dissapoints either!

Tonight we had a reservation at La Strada for 8:00pm. Not only did they not respect our reservation time, we were not greeted at the door and only after standing holding the door open did "Rick" offer us to sit down at the bar. He did not offer us a drink nor did he apologize for us having to wait or tell us how long the wait would be. He was rude to his staff and not a pleasant demenor at all. We got some drinks and still waited while he proceeded to seat several other groups. After waiting 15 mins we decided to leave. The atmosphere was unpleasant the staff were Rude and no one had a smile ...needless to say we went to John Taylor's instead to celebrate my birthday.

For years.................... I have been eating at La Strada since it opened and have never had a bad meal. Ever. the service and ambiance of Pietro, Rick, Natal and all the staff is second to none. As is the food.

Completely unacceptable descrimination. Myself and my partner felt totally unwelcome from the second we stepped foot inside. Manager and a staff member looked down on us as young professionals. Several empty tables on a Saturday but had to "think about" offering one to us as young adults. The ageism was surprising and hurtful. I will never return and instruct everyone I work with under 35 years old to do the same.

The food was enjoyable and my server was fantastic, nothing more to ask of her. The manager however appears to want to exclude young professionals who wish only to spend their hard earned money for a nice dinner. Awful customer service from him, was rude and dismissive. Confirming my suspicion, our great server was seen showing him our bill almost as if to prove we had invested more than 100 dollars on our meal.

Over 20 and successful? Reconsider eating here.

Noisy with rude staff. A dinner with friends just didn't happen. The four of us arrived (having reserved two weeks ahead) to discover a party of 30 taking up three quarters of the small restaurant - and making a lot of noise. When we were seated (at a table right next to the large party) we decided to see if another, slightly quieter table was available. My friend pointed out that "we reserved two weeks ago, she was told "And I had a table for you." Hmm. No apology for the incredible noise and likely very long wait for dinner with this huge party....just a "who cares about your evening" attitude. We left and ate elsewhere. We couldn't have had a conversation had we stayed, and, frankly, the staff might consider that there is no shortage of good Italian food in Ottawa.....just saying that this attitude will lose more customers.

Warm and Cozy Italian restaurant. Been here three times
Had Calamari appetizer best in Ottawa, both battered and non battered, Parmigiana and Pescatore seafood dishes excellent
Parking/access can be challenging
Ambience: 7/10 (small, cozy, however nicely lit)
Food 8.5/10
Value 7.5/10
Recommend, our go to Italian restaurant in Ottawa

Nice surprise. The food was excellent. We had the smelt and the grilled calamari as appetizers. Both were excellent. For the main courses, my wife had the linguine with shrimp and I had the liver with onion. Again, both were excellent. We live in the Ottawa area and the last time we were at La Strada was about 10 years ago and we were both so so on the food then, which is why we were both pleasantly surprise at the improved quality of the food now. I would definitely go back.

We went to La Strada (which came highly recommended) for our 5 year anniversary. Everything would have been perfect and I would have no complaints except that 1 hour after being seated, as we were finishing our drinks and waiting to order desert, the waitress asked if we wouldn't mind giving our table to another couple who were waiting. She said if we wanted to order desert we could eat it at the bar. She did give us the option, but I felt as though we were being asked to leave. It was very rude! We made reservations too! Upon getting up we noticed other customers still sitting who were there before we sat down. I really don't think we were welcome... Perhaps because we weren't regulars? So so disappointing.. Will not go back only to feel belittled..:(

DISAPOINTMENT. Two weeks ago I brought clients from Montreal at La Strada for lunch. Reservations were made for 12:00. On entering the restaurant nobody was there to greet us. Another customer walked in a few minutes later and we were still all standing at the entrance waiting for someone to greet us. Finally the waitress walked out from the kitchen area and sat us at a table. She was very attentive but also a bit pushy. We indicated that we needed time to talk business before ordering and that we would let her know when we needed her assistance. After we got our point through to her the meal went well and my clients were pleased. Although the owner walked into the restaurant and never acknowledged our presence or anyone else for that matter. My family and I have frequented this restaurant quite a few times lately as my daughter loves one of their veal dishes. My beef with this restaurant is not the food or service but the management and their attitude with their clients. Its non-existant.

Delicious Traditional Italian Food. Have been wanting to try La Strada for a while but with not a ton of reviews out there, we were a little skeptical. We never should have waited to try it, it was AMAZING. Very traditional Italian menu but the food and service were wonderful.

No complaints about any of the food we tried. They say the lamb is their speciality so I had to try it, it was perfectly cooked and seasoned properly, mustard sauce was delicious. Had the gnocchi to share for the table, they were clearly made in house and tasted awesome however the sauce was heavier than I would like but still no complaints. Others at dinner had pasta dishes and were all satisfied. And dessert was also great, perfect tiramisu...it's lighter than the traditional version but still really good.

Another restaurant that we will definitely be returning to. It's a bit heavy, so I don't know if I'd visit for lunch but dinner again is a must.

Disappointing. We booked reservation on recommendation of friends. Put at back of restaurant by kitchen door when window table available. Wine pricey. Waiter pushy. Calamari heavily breaded and tough. Promised sauce not provided. Wrong dish served. Veal tough and Marsala sauce sweet. Chicken was nicely spiced but small portion. Pasta undercooked. If you are a regular, you are welcomed.

Very Good Family Run Restaurant.. Great Rack of Lamb, Superb wine list, very helpful staff and just as good, if not better than most spot's in Little Italia.

This had to be one of the worst dining experiances. The calamari was rubbery and my veal was tough and over cooked. I recommend if you want comparable prices but much better food to to Allegro ristorante on Preston.

Great Italian Lunch!. Went to La Strada for the first time today with my husband and had a great time. Service was courteous and friendly. Waitress was knowledgeable on the wine list and was able to make a suggestions on what to try.She also came over regularly to top up our ice water and check how our meal was going. Food was delicious. Fresh cooked rolls were offered and smelt delicious. We started with smelts and calamari. Both were presented very nicely with lemon to squeeze over. My husband noticed how they were nice and crisp no oily taste as is sometimes the case. We both chose pasta dishes. The pasta was cooked just right. We were too full for desserts but had a delicious coffee to end the meal. We would definitely come again and bring family with us.

1 disappointing meal. We have been patrons of La Strada ,since it opened, and have always enjoyed fantastic food, warm welcomes. We go there for special occasions because of the above reasons. However, on June third we brought friends there for a special meal. When the meals arrived,my sole was so salty as to be inedible..I finally managed to send it back. When the new plate came along[all at the table had finished. Also the sole was floating in a pool of liquid and it had disintigrated to the point that it was difficult to pick it up with a fork. The waiters apologized but the Maitre D totally ignored the situation. He or the manager should be aware & deal properly with any issues with the kitchen. staff.

Went there with a dinner club a couple weeks ago. The winelist was a bit $$ although their by-the-glass selections were more reasonable. Service wa s on the slow side so enjoy la dulce vita between courses. To be fair there were several groups there at the same time. Ordered a chicken dish with roasted red peppers and veg. It was good, but myself and other diners noted a strong SALT taste to our mains. Dessert ESP tiramisu was excellent.

Simply no finer restaurant then this. I go often and almost always order the same items. To start I order either calamari , fried zucchini or bruschetta. Then I order proscutto stuffed veal in a white marsalles sauce, This plate comes with 3 good size portions of meat especially since it often fills me up. For dessert I often get a slice of lemon cake which is very orgasmic in a non sexual way.
