We had a quick dinner at Thanjai on a Friday evening. The place has limited seating and the wonderful aromas of sambar hit you the minute you walk through the door. We had Medu Vada Sambar which was nice but the vadas weren't crispy. Probably because they were dunked in sambar but the taste was good. The Mysore Masala Dosa and Podi Masala Dosa were amazing. Sambar and Coconut chutney were on point. The red tomato and onion chutney tasted off. Look forward to trying their meat and seafood items. All in all a good dining experience. Our server was very pleasant too! Would recommend for satisfying south Indian fare.

Shared the FOUR FOOT DOSA with my friend. We came sooo close to finishing it. So yummy and a great experience. Came with 4 sides: coconut chutney, potato curry, sambar and some sort of tomato chutney? I may be way off! To finish off, I had a South Indian coffee. Tasted different, reminded me of Turkish coffee. Very yummy though!

We loved our experience at Thanjai! We’ve been searching for a great South Indian restaurant in Ottawa and were so happy to be recommended to this place. The dosas were incredible and they reminded us of being back home in Chennai. The chicken 65 could compete with the best chicken 65’s from any of the South Indian states. The place is unassuming yet charming - much like the casual haunts you’ll find in India. The price points are very good so it’s affordable to enjoy a great meal. Both the restaurant manager and Chef (Rajath and Viral) were very kind and chatted with us for awhile to get our feedback and suggestions. Definitely recommend this place if you want an authentic South Indian meal :)

The quality of food has changed. Had worst experience. Customer Service sucked as well as the food was awful! Literally mashed potatoes are better than the stuffing in the Dosa’s. ‘Popular Dosa dish not so popular’. This was my last visit to this restaurant after awful experience. Sambhar was very tasteless.

Amazing! Chicken 65 is fragrant and perfectly fried, absolutely delicious. Butter chicken above average. Onion Bhaji fried/crunchy and very flavourful, as it should be <3 ! Even the Naan had a rustic smokey flavour that was great. Tried many places over the years and I think this is the best Indian food in Ottawa :)

Ordered the ghee masala dosa with a side of chicken 65 and their onion pakoda. This is literally the best dosa I've had outside of Chennai! And the chicken 65 was epic! No other words, mouth watering authentic south Indian food - definitely coming back!

Felt more like food you would buy at a grocery store unfortunately. The mutter paneer just tasted like heavy cream without any flavour. The naan bread felt store bought and was very tough. We were looking forward to trying this place, but it was overpriced, disappointing and we both ended up getting sick.

Amazing food best dosa in the city
Service needs polishing though got lucky with our waiter who was great but food times moving people around and seemed a bit disorganized
But would still return and recommend based on food and sure service will get better as they get in their groove

I don't think I've ever given a restaurant 5 stars before but this is well deserved. When I lived in India I had tried dosas, but to be honest I wasn't too impressed and have stuck with northern Indian food mostly since. The Thanjai has made me a convert. We've been twice for lunch and both were delicious experiences. The masala chicken dosa is so flavourful. It is served with a small serving of tasty, spicy (but not too spicy) vegetable lentil soup (sambar). The dosas (crepes) are light and yummy. My wife, a vegetarian, has had the mushroom and the coriander dosas. She loved both of them. I also recommend the south indian coffee they make. The service is friendly and our server on both occasions was helpful in guiding us through the choices on the menu. They were happy to answer questions and volunteer suggestions and explanations. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Service was very slow 1 waiter, food came in cold we had to wait 15 minutes for our desert finally took desert off our bill. Give it 2 star dosa was mild asked for dosa to be spicy, was mild they have to live up to the one in Montreal food was amazing there.

Best dosas in town! Aditya, who was our server, was wonderful. The kitchen was running a little behind and Aditya made sure to come and tell us. He brought us some papad to munch on while we waited for our order. He was personable and had a wonderful sense of humour! We will be coming back soon for sure for this wonderful experience. This place is small so it fills up fast but there is a public parking garage across the street.

Servers are friendly. Food is delicious, great menu but over-priced and quantity isn't satisfactory for the amount you are paying. Would have appreciated more if the food quantity matched the price I was paying !

Excellent Idlis and masala dosas! I felt like I was in South India but without the burning spice that overpowers.

Good food. Good service. Huge selection of dosas - probably the largest in Ottawa.
