Review Moxies - Ottawa

A must get is their Roasted Tomatoes & Whipped Feta, probably my favorite appetizer out of any restaurants ever! We went here for Valentine's day weekend, had an amazing time and service was great!

Attended the location in March of 2022. The lady that greeted me at the front door was young and unfortunately didn't have a lot of personality. Seated in the dining room. It was quiet at the time and all was good. My waiter approached the table and took my order. Couple of small errors in the order and the way they presented the food. Later was pleasant but not overly talkative. The food itself was really good. It was hot and to the quality I would expect from Moxie's. Would have liked to have seen the wait staff a little more engaged and interested but other than that I would certainly return. It appears that the restaurant certainly would be a good spot to attend on the summer as it has a nice patio and an upper level.

It was a great experience. I had the basil salmon. The sauce was fantastic. Watch the salt, its a touch rich. Plating was ok, if it were me I'd add some greenery or a garnish but it's clean and the taste✔ 👨‍🍳 We didn't really have a steady server. And we were told that it may change. But the service was actually phenomenal we had access to basically anyone that passed and we were checked in on very regularly. It did lack the personal touch though. We were on the second floor. Thank you for your service servers. Great team work The salmon was quite rare. I will say I enjoyed it, but I'll add most people don't want a rare salmon, so tell the grill cook not to make that the go to and give it another minute .5 on each side. One of the better restaurant experiences I've had in Ottawa the past couple months.

I absolutely love Moxie's for every date night. The food is always amazing. I usually go to the Orleans location and it is absolutely every bit as good as the Gloucester location. The only thing I've noticed is that it's very dark in the downstairs area, more than ideal. Still, this place deserves its 5 star rating.

Horrible greeter at the door from the get go. We were 6 professionals who were treated like children. Table was dirty with drink marks and and food all over. We asked if they could clean it and a girl came with a wash cloth and didn’t do the best job so we cleaned it ourselves. You would think that due to Covid, they would be extra careful, but the attitude was awful and we felt like we were getting the silent treatment due to us asking for a bigger table. They tried to squeeze 6 people on a table that holds 4. The waiter with the long hair took our order for drinks and didn’t show up until 30 minutes later. One friend had to leave as she had an appointment so she didn’t get to eat. We received our food over an hour later and ended up almost 2 hours for the whole experience, knowing we had to go back to work. Waiter didn’t smile once and you could tell he had issues with anyone who was older as he dismissed us more than once when we tried to flag him down. People seated on the table adjacent received their food before us even though they arrived after us. Food I must say was excellent however with all the issues we had, it soured our outing. Will never go back again nor will we suggest your restaurant to any colleagues based on our terrible experience. It’s really a shame since the food is above average but it’s not worth the headaches. I suggest a little pep talk with the staff to change the mood in there. It’s extremely important to the success of your restaurant for the future. Thanks for listening.

Updating review since it's 2 years old. Went for supper with a few friends and everything was perfect from the hostess to the service and the food. Our server was bilingual and could switch depending on who he was addressing at the table... Moxie's Ogilvie will be a regular spot for us to me and have drinks and great food. Previous - Fast friendly service, nice atmosphere where you can have a normal level conversation and good food. We had a very nice lunch.

Went in yesterday with my son for a fun mid afternoon patio meal , I have met and seen a lot of people in my life and Krystal was super nice and top notch . Great asset for your restaurant. Very genuine person , great smile and great professional attitude while being able to converse in a work environment. I never leave reviews but really had to leave this one . Thanks again Krystal and sorry I missed our guessing game haha

Nice spot to grab lunch. The outdoor patios are nice and sheltered from the sun. Indoor looks really nice too. Food was nice although my steak was a bit chewy. But good food. Service is a bit slow at times but that's due to shortages in staff and not the service itself. Plenty of parking.

This is mine and my husbands new favourite place to eat!! The service is excellent, food is amazing but that stuffed baked potato is to die for!! �� we are still talking about it!!

Here with my husband on date night, ordered a steak and found it a bit on the chewier side (med. rare). Told our server who promptly went to switch it. Not 2 seconds later the manager came to see us and to recommend that instead of just having a sauce added to the steak as I had requested, they were going to cook me a fresh one, and bring us a dessert while we waited. The service here at this location is outstanding, we will definitely be recommending this place to our friends and family. Thank you so much Nathan and Jen, you made date night awesome!!!!!

Went with my parents for their 30th wedding anniversary this past Saturday evening. All 3 of us had a different steak. My mom said it was one of the best steaks she's ever had (she had the tenderloin steak). I'd have to agree that mine (honey garlic steak) was also amazing. We were too full for dessert, but our server offered us a complimentary, celebratory brownie and ice cream to go.

Great food, greats staff. The open concept kitchen is really cool to see. Really looks like the staff is having a good time. I've been coming here for quite some time and watching people cook and love what they do doesn't happen everyday. I will keep coming to this location and I recommend it to everyone!

Very nice high end loungerie to hang out in total comfort and enjoy fine eats and drinks with your family or friends. Everyone here goes out of their way for you and very attractive staff if you don’t mind me saying so. The General Manager is a great guy! They have a gin and tonic slushy special every Friday. 👍🏻

My bf and i went to this resturant for supper and we were impressed. Our waiter Tristan was very friendly and professional. He made sure we were taken care of for our visit. Highly recommend this restaurant and we will return again.

Went last night with hubby. Ordered the turkey club which was good although the fries were not hot enough. My husband had the lemon herbed salmon and found it was okay but wouldn't order it again. Our server was Tristan and we were underwhelmed with the speed and attention to us, service was just okay.

Our server Gen was fantastic in answering all our questions. Introduced her self in English and in French, described the food with detail and served us with kindness and skill. The manager Nathan was very down to earth and a pleasure to speak with. Wishing you continued success with your location and we will see you again! Thank you!

The staff here is amazing! I was there a few weeks ago with a friend, and last night when we went back Cara remembered our drink order!! Cara is super attentive and thoughtful, and we will definitely be back because of the wonderful service. Also the margherita pizza is delicious!

Absolutely delightful service . The Modern decor offers a beautiful ambiance. The menu offers a variety of dishes that are sure to please any pallet ( including gluten free). Attention to every detail is made. The service is fantastic and informative not to mention enthusiastic!

Service was slow and not great but the food was good and the server was lovely so forgiven.

Edeleine served us tonight, she's so amazing. We had nachos and calimari and beer on the patio. So relaxing and such friendly professional attentive service.

Went for Dinner on Valentines day 2015, food was amazing, couldn't have asked for a better dinner, food was fast and tasty, Pearla (waitress) was fast sweet, very polite and attentive... Thank you to Moxies and it staff for an amazing dinner experience...

The "Madagascar Peppercorn Sirloin" was delicious. I asked for my steak to be cooked 'Medium-Rare', and they nailed it! In addition to divine food and great atmosphere, we had a very friendly and comical waiter (Dan). Overall, awesome night!

Classy decor and friendly and enthusiastic staff. I think my complaint is about attention to detail and quantity of servings. I ordered a cider from the tap and the glass was an inch and a half from being filled. I can't believe the bartender and server didn't notice that, considering it's a $10 drink after tax. Also, the Thai curry tasted good but is there a chicken ration I don't know about? I estimate getting about a quarter of a normal chicken breast. I cook at home and know what a good serving looks like. Not really worth what I paid except that the staff are nice and the place has a vibe.

I ordered local tacos. I was amazed to see how tacos were well presented. Taco shells were soft but also the edges were crispy, which I like. And also I love the fact that so many layers of veggies in the tacos. Just eating one taco made me so full. Waitresses were very friendly and polite. I definitely will come back here.

We had the beef dip and very tasty , warm and fresh. The pricing is good , and the service was excellent. Nice place for a lunch. <br/>The tacos were very tasty and good sauce goes with it.

Really good food! Nice service, one of my friends had an allergic reaction to the food and they handled the situation really well, made sure she was comfortable and followed up with her within the next few days of our visit! Overall really good service and good food

A must try restaurant.  I love their chicken enchiladas.   So much flavor.    The servers never let your drinks go empty.  My daughter polished off her chicken bites which she never does at any other restaurant.   Bring your family to sit in these beautiful cozy restaurants and enjoy the great food.

Fresh ingredients great service. A friend and I were there for lunch and she had the steak salad and I had the seared tuna salad. It was the freshest salad I ever had and the flavor combo was great. My friend declared it was the best steak salad she has ever had. Just wanted to say bravo and you made our lunch memorable. Also the service was friendly and we were not rushed through our meal. I recommend this specific location (I have been to all of them and the food is the best at this one). Now, can you bring back the land and sea to the menu..just wishing!

Worst Exerience Ever. The other night I went with 2 people to Moxies (Ogilvie) and we planned to eat wings there since it was special $3.50 per lb of wings. After telling the man at the front we were looking to eat wings for special price, he then asked us for our ages. One of the two was under 19 and he said you guys cannot go upstairs to the bar. We told him that we don't want to drink just eat wings, so he said you guys can eat on the main floor but wings will be regular priced. First problem (why would price of wings differ from eating upstairs at the bar or on the main floor. Anyways we said we will be back after dropping the minor. Once we came back after 10 minutes we said ok we want to go up to the bar to eat wings, he replied saying sorry we are out of stock of wings. We knew there is no way they were sold out and he only said that just because he knew we would not buy any drinks, or anything and just eat wings at $3.50/lb.

Beef Vindaloo. A tad too salty, but a decent meal. Nice ambiance but the same beat plays over and over as background music. Could change it up.

Manager went above & beyond!. Just wanted to compliment Ottawa's East end Moxies' manager (I feel terrible for not remembering his name, but he's caucasian, average built, about late 20's, brown hair) for his amazing service! My Fiancé & I had gone for dinner, the food was amazing, however, there was one issue with HIS plate and without even complaining, we simply pointed out the issue and the manager went above and beyond our expectations! We are so very satisfied with his service, Great service, very friendly staff, love the ambiance! Because he exceeded our expectations, we will definetly be going back!

April 25, 2013. Excellent food; excellent service! There was a small issue that the avocado in my salad was not ripe. I was very impressed with the promptness and how this was resolved. Server as well as manager came to our table to apologize. It is so nice to go out to a restaurant where one is treated with respect and dignity. Bravo to Moxie's!

Loved the staff and loved the food :):). Staff was AMAZING. So friendly, so caring...not annoying, invasive or pushy, gave us our space, they were there when you needed them and quick to respond to any inquiry. We were a little bit concerned with one of the many dishes we ordered because we felt it may not have been cooked entirely but the server IMMEDIATELY took the plate back and rectified the problem no questions asked and even deducted the cost of that dish off of our final bill...we did order a lot of food though so I understand why the meat may have been a little undercooked in that particular instance. <br/><br/>I loved the atmosphere and I really enjoyed the food too...it was ALL very delicious :) Our server was very kind and had a GERAT sense of humour, I believe the manager at one point came by to apologize quickly and informally regarding the undercooked food and it was just a genuine and thoughtful little gesture since you don't see that a lot anymore.<br/><br/>Eitherway I give this place two thumbs up, and I can't wait to go back :)<br/><br/>Cheers!<br/>Mary.

Was at there a couple of weeks ago with some out of town guests. Was a spur of the moment decision and we were lucky enough to be there when they had a guest chef. As always food was amazing. The only disappointments were the fact that the kitchen mis-plated 2 out of the 4 meals and they gave 3 of the 4 meals to the wrong people. I will say they handled it very well. First they offered to replace all 4 meals, and when we explained we were going to a movie, they comped the 4 meals, about $90 in steaks. Even though they made errors, they were more than willing to compensate for them. I would not hesitate to return for another meal

Steak salad is excellent! House beer is also very good. Music could be a little lower...makes conversation challenging.

Buffalo Chicken Fingers - GROSS!. I thought Moxies held itself out as a better than average dining establishment so 5 of us got together for lunch. I ordered the buffalo chicken fingers with fries. I think it took about 45 minutes to get our food. I wouldn't have been surprised to hear that my chicken fingers sat on the counter in the kitchen for 35 minutes. They arrived at the table colder than room temperature. The buffalo sauce was so salty that I almost gagged. I didn't bother sending them back because I didn't have another 45 minutes to wait for something new. I struggled to eat two of the fingers so that the other 4 dining mates wouldn't feel bad. I took the rest home to throw in the garbage. I learned later that the other meals served to our table weren't great either. The fries were good but we won't be back.

Happy with many things , dislike other things .Service good ,steak good ones ,great twice . no identity from one to the other . Women get a little offended ! to be continued

The food was OK...typical chain restaurant food. Our waiter was excellent. However the 'greeters' are obviously hired for their looks and NOT their brains ... And that goes for their manager as well ... Never have I been treated so disrespectfully in a restaurant ... It amazes me that Moxie's on Ogilvie is as busy as it is ... Won't be going back anytime soon.

HONEST OPINION FROM THE MAN THAT KNOWS FOOD AND FRESHNESS. I think for families that have kids and always bitchin about good lookin waitresses then GO TO PERKINS!! Stop bitchin about stupidity since Moxies is meant to enjoy food + atmosphere, if you think the women are out of your league than dont go there in the first place. Stick with family restaurants and read the god damm brochure. Business means Business at Moxies! Sit in the family area where waitresses are more conservative dummies not the lounge where the parties at. Get your head out of ur asses DUMB ADULTS!

Good time!. With response to amanda's review, if you have a problem with the short skirts you dont have to sit in the lounge area you can always sit in the dining room where the girls are in dress pants and a collared top. <br/><br/>as for the food it is one of the better menus i find for a chain restaurant. i really do enjoy the service have never had any problems. can count on consistency here!

Get New Hiring Process. I just don't like the fact that the servers are hired based on looks. A lot of the servers I've had are just terrible Also, put on some clothese ladies, we don't need to see up your skirt while dining. The food is alright, nothing special.

Good service, fantastic menu selection for both food and drinks. Fair prices and nice atmosphere. People who complain about the way the staff dresses really need to get a life. If you don't like it, don't look at it. You typically go to a restaurant for good food and company right? So stop worrying about what the staff is wearing and just enjoy yourself.

A lot to fix. I have dined here quite a few times, more than I would like to admit. Everytime I go here, I am disgusted of the little baby girls that host you. They are dressed so inapropriately. I don't want to see up your skirt while I am eating... thank you.<br/><br/>The food has good intensions for a chain resto, but there is always something wrong with the meal. Things like, the salad has way to much dressing, <br/><br/>I must say, my favorite dessert is the Banana Xango. It's a wrapped banana in a philo type shell served with caramel and cream cheese I think! Mmmm<br/><br/>The drink menu is also grood. A great place to try the cocktail of the day.<br/><br/>The real challenge is finding a good place to eat in this part of town. But I must prefer getting a drink and desert than having a meal.

Forget the food. Beers are cold & waitresses are hot.

Food is ok. It is a chain so forget local or seasonal variances on the menu. You will either love orhye the fact that the waitresses dress like strippers.

Love Moxie's. Love the "atmosphere". If that makes me a sexist pig, so be it, but the male waiters, of which there are plenty, are just as pleasing to the female eye as the women are. Strangely, they serve the best beef vindaloo in the city.

Don't go upstairs without the following survival kit: Flashlight, Earplugs, Gold Credit Card. I asked the waitress to repeat the side order choices and was told I could only get Mashed Potatoes. Stay away.

The waitresses dress and act like prostitutes. It's more like a strip joint.
