I walked to Chinatown at dinner time, and after passing a few restaurants I decided to try Phuket Royal. It’s a medium sized restaurant with comfortable seating for about 100, with a nice, simple decor. When I arrived just after 6 pm, only 3 tables were occupied, and a few more tables were taken as I had my meal.

As I looked over the menu, I enjoyed some complementary tea. I chose the Phuket Royal’s Pad Ped Talay, which is a seafood stir fry with Thai eggplant. I do not recall having this variety of eggplant before. The were round, about the size of golf balls, and cut into quarters. The outside looked and felt a bit like zucchini, while the inside had the more familiar pulp and seeds. While the shrimp was cooked nicely, the squid was a little bit rubbery. Add it baby corn, basil, thinly sliced bell peppers, tofu and more, in a medium heat yellow curry sauce, and there was a really nice combination of textures and flavours.

Service was pleasant and fast.

The service is good. Restaurant is spacious and clean and tastefully decorated. My husband had a small bowl of lemongrass soup and he said it was good. Where this restaurant really impressed me is they had vegetable pho (vegetables in vegetable broth with rice noodles) without tofu- which is quite hard to find here in Ottawa. The bowl was presented with an abundance of fresh vegetables in it, the broth was very good. I loved it and for sure will be back - maybe tomorrow. @

Excellent service and the food was amazing! From the moment we walked in we felt welcome. Staff had sincere smiles and the desire to give us a positive experience. We also learned a little about their culture and they were more than happy to share a few things with us.

A strong entry into Ottawa's Thai food scene, up there with (but I would say not quite equal to) Silver Spoon and Talay Thai. Their price-to-tastiness ratio (P:T ratio), which for me is a key metric, is excellent. I'd also highlight the serving sizes as being particularly generous. We always get at least two lunches for two from a $30 takeout order, if not a lunch and a dinner. Round it out with super-fast takeout service (>15 minutes) and I'd say "LET'S PHUKET ROYAL"! Or... maybe I wouldn't... that was a tad awkward.

We ordered the Vietnamese Beef Stew and Chicken Yellow Curry. The curry was really good and portion size was respectable with good quality chicken meat, unlike some other restaurants that seem to use weirdly textured chicken. The Beef Stew absolutely blew us away. The broth as so rich and full of flavour, the noodles perfectly cooked, and the beef was so succulent and juicy. I cannot recommend the beef stew highly enough. Great service too! Maly was very friendly and knowledgeable of how the food is made.

Amazing taste and quality. Great balance of spice to make this great.

The chicken Panang curry was so good and I had it at 4 spice which was perfect.

Had lunch with the family on Easter Monday in China Town section in Ottawa. From the outside it seemed to be the cleanest restaurant on the street that we peeked and it turned out to be just that.

The two servers that attended were excellent in service and their knowledge of the menu. They started us with some green tea that was flavoured with lemongrass and was one of the best we have ever had.

We had Fried Tofu (T3) to start with and was perfect. Fresh, slightly crispy outside and soft inside.

We had Plain Noodle Soup (V08) with veg broth, Pad Kee Maow Fried Rice Noodles with mixed veggies (Lunch Menu F), Vegetarian Fried Rice (T65) and Vegetarian Green Curry (T51).

The T51 was out of this world. My son does not prefer eggplant and he finished each and everything on his plate. The curry was rich, perfectly flavoured, mildly spiced and went well with the plain rice. The Rice Noodles were good and spiced slightly more but the dish hit its spot. The quantity was a bit on the lower side but it was a lunch dish, but goes to say that we needed more!

The fried rice with basil was amazing and flavoured just right with soy sauce. The soup was plain, but that what it was. The large portion was LARGE.

The servers when told all of us were vegetarian were quick to point is dishes that had eggs or flavoured with fish sauce. When requested they quickly doubled checked and told it could be made without it.

The service, the cleanliness and the food - 5 stars for us.

Will go back again and highly recommend.

Had Deep Fried Tofu, Red Curry Tofu (T43), Vegetarian Pad Thai (T45), Vegetarian Noodle with Basil (T47) and Vegetable Fried Rice (T65)
The Pad Thai was good, the noodles perhaps a little more cooked. The taste was perfect. T47 was simply amazing. The basil came through nicely and bit on the spicy side. Really nice dish. The Fried rice was plain and lacked flavour. The Red Curry Tofu was really good. Not too spicy and lots of veggies

Consistently delicious curry dishes. Good portions and decent service. Great place to go with a group and share a few dishes accompanied by naan or rice.

New favourite:). A welcome addition to Somerset - although they do serve a decent bowl of pho, it's refreshing to see Thai cuisine in Ottawa's Chinatown. The BBQ Duck Curry is absolutely delicious. My only critique is that the sticky rice was a bit dry and unfortunately you have to pay extra $2 for it (but the overall prices are not too bad to begin with). Service was friendly and with a smile :) Will be back again for sure!

Vegetarian and Vegan Friendly. Haven't had Pho since I became vegetarian, it was great! I can never trust Vietnamese food because they like to put fish sauce in everything, but these guys were different and I really trusted them.

A fantastic addition to Chinatown. The food here is absolutely amazing. We came here earlier in the week because the place we normally go to (Koreana) was closed for the night. We tried various dishes that were Thai, Vietnamese and even Philipino barbeque! The duck was cooked to perfection, crispy skin and moist on the inside. The curry was creamy, flavorful and not overly spicy and the Pad Thai is one of the best I've had in Ottawa so far. The noodles had a good texture, stayed moist and didn't overcook from the residual heat as we took our time finishing the dishes. The service was pretty good and overall it was a wonderful experience.

I was actually very impressed on my first visit here. I had the pineapple fried rice which was not on the menu yet but offered by our server and the papaya salad. I loved the flavour of the fried rice , probably the best I had so far. The papaya salad was very tasty too, seasoning was right on, not too spicy and made very traditional. Service was also great unlike most other restaurants around Chinatown. Will definitely be coming back to this place.

The Red Curry. I'm salivating just thinking about it. The bamboo is such an interesting texture and the spice is just right. Overall, very good atmosphere, decent prices, friendly servers and delicious food!!!

Went here because the other restaurant we intended to go to was closed. We were skeptical because it looked a bit tacky outside but we were not disappointed. The curry is absolutely delicious large portions packed full of taste. We also tried the pad Thai and was also very delicious! I will definitely come here again and recommend it!

Pretty Good. Went here on a whim with my friends tonight, and we were suprised by the quality of the food. Everything is very well presented and they have very decent portion. The Pho is excellent, and the different size choices are nice. The service and prices were also very good. Would definitely come back here to try other things.

Friday my wife and I decided to try a new Thai place we had seen on a previous visit to Ottawa's Chinatown .  Newly opened Phuket Royal ( 713 Somerset Street West, Ottawa ) offers not only Thai food but ads to the already overcrowded Vietnamese selection on Somerset Street West.  But we were more interested in the Thai food after our previous Thai adventure not going so well. We arrived at 4:30 P.M. to find the modernly styled and renovated restaurant with only one other table occupied.  Fresh paint, flooring and tables were evident in this large spacious restaurant.  The interior seemed like an anomaly compared to the rest of the Asian restaurants on the block that just try and provide a nicely painted interior with whatever flooring their happens to be. The only gripe, the floors were a little dusty with the addition of odd pieces of paper.  Perhaps this grime was more noticeable due to the shiny sheen flooring they have present.  My wife also thought she smelled a stale odour to the

Wonderful natural light through large clean windows. Very friendly service. Fun fact: Did you know that the current owners are the original owners??!! Pride of ownership was evident throughout our meal. Food came fresh, well portioned, with a satisfying amount of large succulent shrimp in all the shrimp plates we ordered. Delicious, fresh, well presented. Highly recommend. #localguide

Phuket Royal is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Ottawa. Their food is so incredible. Packed with umami and flavors. We ordered their Pad Thai, Red curry with salmon, and Satay chicken on skewers with peanut butter sauce. This would be my ultimate comfort food choices!!!

The tastiest and most affordable Thai food I've had in Ottawa. It's a cozy family-owned restaurant in Chinatown. The veggie & tofu green curry and sticky rice were TO DIE FOR and the portion sizes are very generous. Unless you're super hungry, you'll probably have lots of yummy leftovers! There are a ton of vegetarian and vegan options, most of which are $12.95.

I've eaten here many times in the past. The food is usually good but sometimes inconsistent. The service is hit or miss with the hospitality, but they are always quick. My most recent experience was a really good one, and the female server spoke both French and English.

We ordered the seafood soup(pho) which was very delicious. It had shrimp, crab, calamari and scallops. It comes with noodles and mung bean sprouts on the side. We also tried the curry with tofu and vegetables. The bell peppers could've been a little bit more cooked but it was tasty overall. The food takes a while to come to the table but I think it's because everything is freshly prepared in the kitchen. A friendly home owned restaurant with good prices, worth the visit.

Good food with reasonable prices. We ordered the Papaya Salad, Beef Pho, Stir-Fried Chicken with Basil, Steamed Rice, Chicken Satay and a Coke. The restaurant provided free hot lemongrass tea which was a nice accompaniment. All came up to $70+ inclusive of taxes and tips. Food was fresh and tasty. Restaurant is clean. Service is a little slow but alright.

Very good food. The person taking the orders over the phone was very helpful and patient to our lack of knowing what we wanted. The food was ready on time, and came in good quality containers for take out. The Green Curry Chicken was really good. I am not into much spicy food, but this dish had just the right amount of spice. I also ordered rice on the side. The dishes are large and had left overs for another small meal the next day. It was still good as left overs.

Great place, large space, the service was amazing! You get a nice pot of tea at the beginning. We got the pad see ew and the first thai curry listed. Both were super tasty! I would say the noodle dish was slightly more delicious! Would definitely come again for the food!
