I have been going to Shafali and the Bazaar for over 10 yrs now, the quality of the food, the service, simply unparalleled! Best authentic Indian food in town!!! And to boot, the staff is knowledgeable and ready to assist if one is unsure about a selection. Outstanding!!!

After an extremely long drive into Ottawa, the decision to search for an authentic Indian restaurant seemed like a great idea. I am absolutely thrilled that we chose to dine at Shafali Indian Restaurant for two very important reasons. Being that I work in the restaurant industry I found that the quality of service my husband and I received was wonderful. Our server was attentive and accommodating to our demanding (and frankly starving) needs and we left there feeling extremely satisfied and full(filled). I would recommend Shafali to anyone visiting Ottawa. I'm sure the residents already know 😍
Every time I go it's a new experience. The food is so full of amazing favours! Excellent staff, atmosphere and the food is Wonderful, an excellent restaurant!
The quality and attention to the dishes is another reason I keep going back. No. 1 in my book! Thank you Shafali!

Best indian place out of the city. Everything is fragrant and the service is polite and friendly!
One of the best local Indian food places in the country. Service is awesome, food is delicious and prepared by EXPERT chefs. Don't take my word for it, go check it out.
Delicious food and extremely courteous service, one of the best restaurant in Ottawa .
Excellent restaurant, friendly welcome, advice and attention in helping us choose from the tasty menu. Gluten-free and vegan friendly :)
We enjoyed the food and service emencly! Will definately return the next time we are in Ottawa from Sudbury! The owner was a wonderful man! Best Nan I have ever had!
Best Indian food outside India! No visit to Ottawa is complete without a dinner at Shafali.
we are from the states and dined here for the third time. The staff is extremely friendly. The food is delicious. While it is a fine dining experience the prices are quite reasonable. We will dine here again the next time we are in ton

After a full day of workshops at the client offices, I was in the mood for Indian food for dinner, and I found Shafali in the market neighbourhood. The restaurant was mostly empty before 6 pm. The decor is a mix of red chairs, yellow walls and purple doorways, with seating for about 40.
I started out with an Onion Bhaji appetizer ($6). While it was tasty, the deep fried onion balls were a bit dry. The tamarind mango chutney was sweet and almost syropy, which did counter some of the bhaji dryness.
For my main dish I chose the Butter Chicken ($17) and added some plain Naan ($4). The chicken came with Basmati Rice. The sauce was just right for me; very creamy and just enough heat. The chicken was tender enough to cut with the side of a fork. I liked the addition of a few slivered almonds for a little bit of crunch. The fresh Naan was a great vehicle for sopping up every last drop of the sauce.
Service was pleasant and reasonably fast. I was in and out in less than an hour.
I came here for dinner Monday night. I found it took a little while to have our orders taken or get water, but after that it was fine.
I ordered their Appetizer platter for 2, which came with pakoras, onion bhaji, chicken tikka, lamb seekh, Chicken samosa and a little bit of salad. Everything on the platter was decent, though nothing particularly exceptional.
For the main course I ordered their Chicken Dhansak, and my partner ordered Butter Chicken, and we tried their naan. The dishes came with rice, and the rice was more than just a plain basmati rice, as it had peas in it and was seasoned a bit. This was different than most places.
The butter chicken I found to be very sweet. Overly sweet, it tasted more like a dessert than it did a main course. The dhansak was tasty, but it was also incredibly spicy. I like spicy food and normally specifically request it and find it mild, but this was close to my limit.
Overall, I found the food to be a little bit better than average, and the service was decent after our orders were in. I would definitely consider returning, but I wouldn't bother with their butter chicken.
Food is AMAZING especially the naan
Portions are very small
Service was pretty bad-the wait was an hour long for food and half an hour for the bill
Would come back just for the naan
Excellent place. It is a really good place to hangout with friends and family, They have a good selection of curries and the tikka wrap is to die for and not expensive for the pocket also you can enjoy a complete 3 course meal for less than 20$.
My favorite indian place in Ottawa. I've been dining at Rose Shafali on dalhousie ST for years, at least 6-7 years now. I am never disappointed and that's saying something about consistency, which is fairly rare these days. It's always excellent, the staff always friendly, atmosphere always nice (low light, candles) and the food's awesome. I've tried 5-6 dishes and none of them ever disappointed me, but I usually get my favorite - the beef vindaloo. I love this place and recommend it HIGHLY.
Great Experience. A very relaxing, quaint and enjoyable atmosphere. The Tika Masala was absolutely delicious (one of the best I have had). Butter chicken was nice but a little mild. Nice fresh, warm nann. Great atmostphere, an overall lovely experience.
Good Option for the Market. Portion sizes were small but rich in flavour. I ordered the "fish" (it's haddock) and it was very well done. My friend ordered the lamb, which was also very good. If you're looking for indian food in the market, Shafali is a good option.
Great place to grab a quick bite for lunch in the Byward market. Excellent chicken Tikka wraps. Samosa also very tasty.
You know its good Indian cuisine when.... ...you see Indians frequenting the restaurant and digging into their meals with relish. I was first introduced to the restaurant by an Indian friend of mine. His favorite recommendation from the menu? "EVERYTHING!" Do order the appetizer/veg appetizer platter for two if you can't decide upon a single dish to start. You'll be able to get a taste of everything. Their tandoori chicken is fall-off-the-bone tender and when the menu warns of a hot, spicy dish, it really means it. (Ask for a glass of milk from the waiter if the heat becomes too much and he'll bring one over with a smile) Staff was very helpful and friendly - they'll even take off-the-menu orders should you desire! Will definitely pay the restaurant a vist again very soon!
Great lunch. Very good lunch experience! You get a nice assortment of foods for a very good value! Definitely try it out!
A must for indian food fans. The food is always delicious at Café Shafali. Try the tandooris and the malai chicken with naan bread. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. A must, you won't regret,
My wife and I visited this place some 6 years ago and really enjoyed a couple of Thali platters together. On this most recent visit to Ottawa, I wanted to try them again but, after perusing the online menu, and the dinner menu at the restaurant, I found no mention of Thali plates at all and started to think I had maybe confused this restaurant with another. I soon discovered, however, that Thalis are only available on the lunch menu and, though being a little disappointed, I stayed and happily ended up enjoying a very good dinner indeed …
Yummy comfort food. Very speedy service. And just the right spice. I had the chicken curry and it comes with rice and salad. The portions were very generous. I also ordered a naan on the side and it was amazing. I could see the owner put it right in the oven and it was still hot when it was brought to the table. Delicious!
Great restaurant with great taste with good service and clean environment 🙂. I like this restaurant.
My friend and I had a lot of fun here.
The taste of this restaurant is amazing. I really liked this restaurant because of its excellent taste and clean environment.
We ate different dishes here. The taste of each dish was very delicious and excellent. 😊
I like it.
If you’re looking for an authentic Indian restaurant food, You’re at the right place !!!! Best naan bread also but as others are saying, a little bit pricey for the quantity. Make sure to take an appetizer with your main dish and you won’t regret it!!!!
This place is amazing. The scent of spices upon entering, the music, the artwork. You're greeted on the spot and taken to your seat.
Now the food. Omg. The food is delicious, you see every spice, the smell is welcoming. Everything about this place is beautiful. 😁
