Review Prohibition Public House - Ottawa

Wow impressive. Exceptional food! Love the duck wings, $5 each for a decent size duck drumstick - crispy smoky on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. The boar burger is yummy too, love the pork belly on top of the patty. The patio is well decorated, great summer vibe.

Our experience at Prohibition Public house was amazing. We went there for brunch when we visited Ottawa last October 2021. Food was delicious. We also loved the ambiance. Definitely we will be back.

A top notch pub in downtown Ottawa. The service was very friendly and warm . The server made a real effort , introducing himself by name and remembering my entire table's names throughout. Good recommendations on beverages and foods which were spot on. Seems like a well-knit team that enjoys working here. The food was delicious also. the beef and squid dishes were tried and were outstanding. truly a 10/10. The vibe is great. Music was perfect for the cozy setting. Definitely a gem of a place in the downtown area!

Always a great experience when you dine in at Prohibition House. The drinks are perfection! The food is so good. One of the best patio in town.

Not the largest selection of food, but a better selection of cocktails and wine. A bit chaotic with a bunch of waiters around, and even though everything took quite a long time, but all of them were friendly. I had gnocchi with duck and they were not similar to any gnocchi that I had before, mostly because of lack of traditional creamy sauce. The dish was still good though. Also had a glass of Malbec which was pretty good.

Good service, and both food and drinks were quite excellent. Will definitely be returning again! I had a tagliatelle pasta dish, with added duck confit which just added extra decadence to the dish.

Had the Moscow mule, spicy margarita and dark and stormy. Drinks were good. We also had the large charcuterie board. Everything on the board was delicious. Others at the table ordered the Margherita pizza and did not like it at all.

Amazing atmosphere with exceptional beer, liquor and wine selection. Always taken care of by the staff when my girlfriends and I come here for charcuterie and wine on Thursday nights. Honestly best quality charcuterie in Ottawa. The baked Brie wheel and bbq duck are also phenomenal. Such a gem in the city!

From the first time I walked in I knew I would love the place. Cosy and rustic, the decor is outstanding. The food and cocktails are as well, both well designed and masterfully executed. The beer selection has something new or familiar for everyone, covering an impressive range of tastes. Because of this I recommend the beer flight, its a good way to sample through the menu and find a new favorite.

I brought my family to Prohibition Public House for dinner once. They sampled the ambrosial craft beers, masterfully concocted cocktails, and delicious coffee (from Almonte, Ontario), and supped upon scrumptious charcuterie, mouth-watering poutine tacos, and divine in-house custom cheesecakes. After being floored by the food and drink and stunned by the vibrant, charming atmosphere of the historic building, they thought that if I could frequent a place as nice as this, then I must surely have my life together. Jokes on them, though. Thanks Prohibition for helping me fool my parents! Seriously though, great food, great drinks, and great company. Plus the weekend doorguy is pretty easy on the eyes.

A definite 5 star experience. We absolutely loved this place! Food was amazing, staff was wonderful, and the atmosphere was perfect. So much attention to detail, with both the food and the restaurant itself. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal, and a good time. We will definitely be back!

Great decor, great service, great food and beer. My wife thought the trout was the best she has had at a restaurant. I really enjoyed the lamb. The open toast comes with a salad that was excellent. Great selection of craft beer, and the waiter was knowledgeable about the beers.

Beautiful old building, great staff, great menu!!! All round great venue. Half price wine on Thursdays gives you more money for food or a second bottle of wine!!

One of the best places in Ottawa for great drinks and food... Jamie is an excellent bar mixologist and good knowledge of bourbon

I'm pretty upset that I can only give five stars. This spot is my new go to. Everything about the space is so thoughtfully designed, it's absolutely gorgeous. Great beer selection, perfectly balanced cocktails (the Blind Pig is a great new take on a Caesar!), and an inspired menu. The charcuterie prices are really amazing, with lots of choice. The duck bacon cannot be missed. The team at Prohibition is so welcoming, and you can tell how proud they are to be part of the restaurant. This is an outstanding new restaurant, a gem in the Ottawa scene.

We were fortunate to go on a beautiful evening so we sat out on the 'lower patio' - the one with the picnic tables. The food was great, as was the beer!!

Great spot with great service. Food was well presented, delicious and fun. Good vibes upstairs with a DJ and random dancing and awesome cocktails. Would highly recommend for a guaranteed good time :)

Flavours were great, but the sizing portions were wacky on some of the meals. The atmosphere was really cool, and took you backwards in time for sure! Staff were excellent, all allergies were accounted for with no issues.

One of the prettiest Charcuterie boards we have ever seen! Our server spent so much time with us, kudos to him. French Fry Taco...not something we would usually go for at a restaurant, but it was fantastic (or that was the cocktails talking). Speaking of Cocktails, we went off menu for at least 8-10 of them. We told the bartender to keep them coming, and surprise us...yet another fun night. $30 a cocktail rounds can add up, but worth it. Great cozy atmosphere.

Let me get 4 things straight: excellent service by friendly waitress, great atmosphere, and okay food <br/><br/>BUT that was all overshadowed by the INCONSIDERATE and UNPROFESSIONAL way they handled our reservation.<br/>We made a bday dinner reservation for 17 people, the guy who took the reservation promised us that we would be seated at a high table top and we would have space to walk around the table. When I called the day of the reservation to let them know 3 people maybe coming late, the owner on the phone proceeded to tell me that they would have to move us to a different location, and that we would be forbidden to move around. <br/>I totally understand the logic behind moving us to another table, and prohibiting us to move around. <br/>BUT, the fact that they promised me XYZ when I made the reservation 3 days ago, only to tell me on the day of, that I can not do those XYZ, baffled me. The ONLY reason I chose this place was because they promised me we would be able to stand and move around the table (mind you, I explained that I didn't mean moving around a lot, just having the space to go talk to the people on the other side of the table). I tried to explain that it is a birthday dinner but he was not compromising. <br/>When we got to the restaurant later in the evening, we were surprised that they placed us at TWO SEPARATE tables, even though we were promised that we would have 1 table since it is a birthday dinner!!! This was HUGE disappointment.<br/>The way they handled the reservation was extremely inconsiderate and the fact that they last minute placed us at 2 different tables, was.... I was promised something that was last minute changed without my consent... I will NOT be making any reservations at this place EVER again.

The food is good but portions are very small. You would have to order at least a small appetizer with your entree if you want to feel full. They will even charge you for the mustard (they only offer ketchup with your burger). They have a decent selection of beer, service is nice and friendly but that's not enough for me to come back.

A really lovely place to go for drinks but the food was only ok (considering the price) and I couldn't at all recommend the deserts. ................................

Prohibition Public House is the perfect spot to go for a drink as there is a wide range of cocktails and craft beers and a good selection of scotch, whiskey, bourbon, gin, and vodka too.<br/><br/>The menu offers a customizable charcuterie and cheese boards, sharing plates, a few larger entrees including rack of lamb and cured duck breast.

The atmosphere in this place was nice, but not as great when you get upstairs. The music was too loud that I felt I lost my voice by the end of night. The drink was ok, but quite bland (Caesar). I also had the mocha mousse dessert but the presentation wasn't great. They had some fruit pieces in it which wasn't necessary. I'm not sure I'd recommend it to friends. It was ok only.

Fantastic new restaurant/bar with excellent ambiance, original house cocktails and a foodie-style menu which pleases as it delivers.<br/><br/>Attentive and knowledgeable waitstaff. I see this place easily becoming a community gathering place. <br/>

Very warm interior, beautiful wood surfaces and serving boards. The service was amazing and the menu was to die for. my only regret is that I didn't order more : )
