Review The Greek Souvlaki House - Ottawa

I'm not sure if there was a change in ownership or something but the food I got today was so unappetizing and such a waste of money. For 2 platters I paid 60 dollars and couldn't finish the food because of how disappointed I was. I'm not sure what's going on but the quality of the food needs to improve asap, I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy, and for some reason the young guy in the back is always yelling at his workers

Great find! I’m not from Ottawa and when travelling tired of fast food. This is good food made fast. Fresh ingredients and tasty. Nice guys working there very comfortable atmosphere Good value for the money. Highly recommend and I will be back on my next trip.

We order from this spot at least 3 times a month and it’s delicious every time. There’s always a generous amount in every order and the friendliest service. We love the platters and the Greek salad.

The value is excellent!! Portions are very generous and the food was comforting & tasty, (I had never had spiro sauce before & seriously underestimated how much I was going to like it) and the instructions were followed perfectly. The desserts are delicious as well.. I'm not usually a fan of chocolate cake, but I found myself devouring an entire slice of their Cookie's & Cream cake in one sitting.

The food is excellent here and the staff is very friendly . I still prefer the original location on prince of whales. The taste of the food is similar however the amount of food now is much less, the portions are average compared to before. I suggest you add more sauce to the rice and load up on the potatoes like the old days.

We ordered takeout off their website but decided to dine in when we got there. The restaurant employees were so nice and took our food out of the takeout boxes and brought everything out on plates. They were super friendly! We will be coming back for sure :)

If you’re looking for delicious Greek food in Ottawa look no further! If you were thinking of getting the lamb do yourself a favour and order it. Always incredible, never disappoints - would never order from any other Greek spot in town and their website is great!

So good!! Fries were unreal. Veggie pita very good as well as the chicken souvlaki.

I cannot say enough about how amazing this place is. Their customer service is incredible, their food is always on point and mouth watering and they go above and beyond time and time again. Greek Souvlaki House is our go-to when ordering out. I would give them a higher rating if I could.

I've been a customer since they were on Baseline at Prince of Wales. Was very sad when that location closed. Jumped for joy when they opened at their current location closer to home. Quality of food is beyond superb. Portions are still generous. And now, they offer their salad dressing for purchase! Menu items that MUST be enjoyed at the restaurant are the steak platter (yum) and the sauteed gyro platter (double yum).

I should preface this by saying that every time I’ve had Greek cuisine I never walked away loving it. Regardless of what I ordered, It was always just okay... but I had seen the reviews for The Greek Souvlaki House & thought I would give it a try (so many people couldn’t be wrong.. and they weren’t!!!). I ordered last night - delivery - a chicken souvlaki pita with a side Greek salad. I opened up my order to find a large souvlaki pita: a good portion of chicken, the perfect amount of veggies (added cucumber) & a generous amount of tzatziki. My first bite was a flavour explosion! It wasn’t overly seasoned (which would have taken away from it). Everything was incredibly fresh (not a soggy vegetable anywhere), the pita was soft (and STILL warm), the chicken was so tender (any chicken souvlaki I’ve had in the past was at least a little tough) & all around just a joy to eat. There was SO much food (and with the delivery service I paid less then $20), that I couldn’t possibly eat it all. I saved my salad for today. Even today the vegetables in the salad were crisp & delicious. The dressing (which I wasn’t sure about... it wasn’t the typical “Greek” dressing I was accustom to) was sweet & light and paired perfectly with the salty feta. I’m 33 years old... and yesterday I discovered I “LOVE” Greek food... or at least the way this restaurant does it. I will most definitely be ordering from again. Large quality dishes made from fresh product and at a reasonable price. Thank you for a fantastic meal!

Kathryn and I were looking for someplace new for dinner; we had seen this little gem on Riverside many times. Tonight we decided to give it a try - WOW, really, really good food. EXCELLENT service - not a big restaurant but comfortable and very friendly. Kate had the spanakopita and I had calamari (we started with a pikilia platter) - very generous portions, delicious and leftovers for lunch and dinner tomorrow!! Our server is the Chef's daughter and her enthusiasm and positive vibe is infectious. We will be back. Loved it!

Been looking for a good Gyro since moving here two years ago. Tried a few places to but none of them stood out. Ordered the Gyro pita and a side of fries. The Gyro was fresh and tender,and plenty of it. Super friendly nice place.

We eat here every week. The service is always friendly and the food is amazing. Best Greek salad in town, the homemade salad dressing is delicious. The chicken, beef and traditional Gyro are always fresh juicy and delicious with the pita wrap always toasted just right with a generous amount of homemade tatziki sauce. <br/>Just a great place to eat, best Greek food in Ottawa you need to eat here!!!

Great, FRESH food.............. The restaurant is clean. The washroom's are clean but the lock on the women's bathroom was broken. The food is cooked FRESH ON THE SPOT, not frozen and reheated. The food portions are the perfect size, if not a bit on the big side, so come with an empty stomach but still be ready to take leftovers home; which taste amazing the next day, even cold. The meat and salads are fresh and delicious. The pita platter with the tzatziki dip is OMG! The staff are friendly, polite and genuine. When you make conversation they make you feel like you have been coming there your whole life. If you are in Ottawa and feel like fresh, warm, wholesome Greek food, this is the place. They even deliver if needed. Prices are fair and worth it.

This is the most disappointing Greek food I have ever eaten. The rice was bland, potatoes were boiled with no spice, spanakopita was mushy. I will not be ordering from here again.

Crazy not to love it. I'm surprised anyone would have anything negative to say about this place. The service is phenomenal, the food is great, and the prices can't be beat. Order a chicken filet sandwich with either a side of fries or a salad (you can't go wrong either way) and you won't be disappointed. I just went there for the first time last week - and I've been back 3 times already!!

Not my Favourite. We ordered here today and I wasn't impressed. My wife got the Chicken Souvlaki platter and her rice came with a tomato based sauce all over it. The potatoes were boiled and unseasoned and the chicken was very plain. I had a beef gyro and while the meat was seasoned well the portion was massive so there was no way to eat it without taking out half the beef. I will say that the salads were fantastic and I was thankful the dressing was on the side. After reading the reviews I had high hopes but I don't think I will be eating there again.

Our Go To Greek Food!. I've ordered delivery from here about 6 times, every time the order was fast (20 mins) and right. Portions are HUGE. Veggie Pita is delicious, as are the potatoes and hummus. for 2 pitas, potatoes, hummus and delivery it came to just over $20, you can't get better than that. We never finish it all in one sitting so we even have leftovers. I would recommend it to anyone!

New favourite place. My go to delivery food is usually pizza, but most places are now charging some fairly hefty delivery fees between 3-5$. This ends up costing about 2$ more after tax and tip, so not very wallet friendly, and the delivery usually takes 45 mins. I decided to try some beef gyro from this place by delivery, ordered 2 of the wraps and fries. Total came to 14$ with delivery and I gave a 2$ tip. Here's the breakdown<br/><br/>Food: Beef gyro was laid out in a visually pleasing manner, loaded with meat, lots of food for 5$. Delicious beef gyro, one of the best I've had, there is so much meat on it it can barely fold! And don't get me started on the fries, they are some of the best fries I have ever had in my life, no lie. They seem to get better the longer you leave them out, crispy on the outside with a nice thickness to the crispy part and nice and soft on the inside. Legitimately the best fries I have ever had, even better than costco fries. <br/><br/>I've ordered twice so far and both deliveries came in under 30 minutes, lightning fast considering I live 10-15 minutes away too. Delivery drivers are very friendly and nice. <br/><br/>All in all, this is my new go to place for food orders. You can't go wrong.

The food quality and taste is excellent. The salad platter I had is one of the best I have had. Service is also extremely good, quick, efficient and friendly. You are made welcome immediately you walk in the door. Portions are very generous. The focus is obviously on ensuring the customer leaves fully satisfied and happy.

First time ordering. Food was hot and delicious. Actual heat coming off the food once delivered to the house..huge amt. Of meat on gyros.

Best Greek takeout. This place was great in its old location and the new one has equally great quality and value. Their gyros are fantastic and the combos are usually enough for 2 especially with the amazing rice that they include.

Speed delivery. Wasn't expecting much...got lots more than anticipated. Wow not a bad meal for the price. And they were here in under half an hour!<br/><br/>I ordered their Traditional Beef Gyro and a small Village Salad with Baklava for a treat.<br/><br/>What I got was a meal for 2! The small salad was a large by any other standards, and really tasty, I like the fact that they put the dressing on the side. Well done.<br/><br/>The Gyro was packed with meat and it was very moist and tasty. A little large for my taste but delish. If I had known each was so large I would have ordered only one or the other.<br/><br/>The Baklava will have to wait...burp.

So glad they're back!. My wife and I are so glad Peter and Saeed are back. We love their food. This evening I had chicken souvlaki and my wife chicken on a pita. It was plentiful and delicious. We used to go to the restaurant on Prince of Wales Drive and have missed it so much since it closed. Welcome back you two; we'll be seeing you on a regular basis.

They're back! They're in a much smaller location with a few small tables inside, and I think better for it. Gyro is juicy, tzatiki is addictive, moussaka is a miracle in my mouth.

Speechless. Last time we were here was when they were at the corner of Baseline and Prince of Wales. The meal we had at that time left us speechless. Mainly because it lacked taste, it was cold, and there was too much of it.<br/>This time, we were also speechless. Mainly because EVERYTHING was friggin amazing. Never have we had a meal - anywhere - where everything was good. The main course was flavourful and done to perfection. The salad was crisp. The potatoes was perfectly seasoned. The rice - I'm not a rice person, but even I could not stop eating it.<br/>Thanks GSV, we have now found our weekly Greek place.<br/>And, yet again, the quality of your food - this time awesome - has left us speechless.

What a great meal. Was at the new Greek Souvlaki House yesterday and reall enjoyed mour meals, my wife and i figure it was one of the best meals we have ever had.. My sister-inlaw just had the Salad and she kept saying how tasty and refreshing the salad was. Reall good job for the place.

Funny Feeling. Was at the Greek Souvlaki House yesterday, had a Pork Souvlaki which was really good but the salad before was wilted and very soggy.... salad should be crisp and refreshing not willted and creamy. it really made me feel sick and i was not in the mood to eat the skewer and potatoes but i was hungry and tried/enjoyed it. Honestly wont go back, clearly their standards are very low when it comes to quality.

For the HUNGRY!. Did some take out last night. The amount of food for the price was crazy. There was no chance of finishing my gyro plate. Would you like a bit of starch with your meal. Not sure if I agree with the switch to Yukon gold potatoes but that is just a personal preference. Loads of rice lightly flavored and doused with a tomato based sauce. My gyro meat was very dry but the tzatziki helped get it down. My buddies chicken kabob was a tad on the dry side as well. That can be overlooked by the massive feet this place gives you for $12. Flavors are ok nothing over the top just stick to your ribs filling food.

You get more than what you pay for when you come here. I've experienced very good service when I picked up my food from this place. The portions are huge and the food is delicious. I especially love the greek salad as it tastes very fresh. When you even make your salad stand out, it's saying something about the rest of the food on the menu. The people who work here seem to actually care about what they are doing and you can see it in the service and the food. Please keep it up I will come back for more.

Awesome. Never been disappointed. Portion size is huge... always have lunch for the next day. Always get the chicken souvlaki platter..chicken is marinated perfectly, sauce on the rice is delicious and the tzatziki sauce is the yummy.

Enjoyed It!. I eat at alot of restaurants in town ... most of them are overpriced for what they give you ... you pay sometimes over $20 for a plate of pasta. This place gives you a complete meal for $16. It was clean and simple. I enjoyed it!

Huge portions, cheap prices. Tasty if not particularly authentic. You can easily feed two people with one of their souvlaki platters. I'd actually love to see them add half-size portions to the menu. Not the best restaurant in the city, but certainly one of the best values for money.

Sooo we had breakfast here this morning. We where greeted by a Greek that confiscated my girlfriends starbucks latte. She was given a cold cup of tea as a replacement. The temperature in the restaurant was cold enough to warrent many of the patrons to keep their winter coats on. Now the good. The spiro omelet was fantastic & huge. The food is volition nous to say the least the omelette is the size of a football and packed with spinach and feta probably enough for four people and dicious if the four man omelette is not enough they also provide a bag of potatoes French fried side with a fll grapefruit on a head of lettuce even the thousa d poundanleaves this restatant full.

Great food, especially the pork souvalki. Portions are very large. I have yet to not take a doggy bag home with me!

The restaurant itself is decorated very nicely and they have huge meal portions, but it's not the most authentic-tasting Greek food in the Ottawa area. Probably more for those into quantity over quality.

The most Greek this side of the pond. Great food. Large portions, if you don't eat too much you prolly don't need the gyro platter with potatoes, even though the potatoes are amazing. I usually order just a gyro however I have had the souvlaki an the lamb chops both were decent. Your a fool not to give this place a shot.
