Review Cafe Morala - Ottawa

Sarah B
Staff were all so nice and cheerful, lots of customers. Cookies are all well-priced. They said any drink can be made iced (one size only). I recommend getting the half-sweet chai latte.

Moralia makes the best empanadas ! You have to go early before they run out! Delicious cookies too. As for their Happy Goat coffee, I am not a fan. The place is oldish, not very comfortable and has no patio but it's quaint and friendly.

Tried the portobello mushroom empanada and the Mayan hot chocolate. Both were great and delicious. They also have beautiful art displayed.

Excellent! I got an iced coffee (Happy Goat brand) that was average price (and less expensive than some places) but it was larger than most places and made with beans that were ground on the spot! I didn’t get a chance to try any of the food but it all looked delicious. 😋 Lots of options for vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, as well as meat and wheat options. Great to see the eco-friendly items too (paper straws, spoons for stirring, actual glasses). Would love it if they added free wifi for solo trips here.

Serves one of the best coffee in Ottawa, which is also slowly taking over the city - Happy Goat Coffee. Very good choices with amazing customer service. Free newspapers (GlobalMail and NYTimes). No complaints

I love this cafe! I have been going here for 13 years and have never been disappointed. The sandwiches are amazing and so healthy. The coffee is fantastic. Cappuccinos are served with generous foam - perfect. And the owner is a lovely lady who seems to really enjoy seeing her customers happy and satisfied. Cafe Morala has a very special relaxed neighbourhood feel that cannot be touched by a chain.

Fabulous local coffee spot. Delicious baking, famous empanadas. Happy Goat coffee is so tasty. Owner and staff are friendly and helpful.

Great coffee and pastries. A great change from the usual change cafes....and you can be privy to some great conversations. I would definitely suggest going here if you are in the Glebe or even in Ottawa South.

Fantastic atmosphere, great people, and excellent coffee. Great lattes and espressos, and sandwiches, good spot for lunch. Perfect place to stop when shopping on bank.

Great pastries and great tea! I love the lemon squares. The cafe has such a wonderful small cafe vibe that I love. I had one of my first dates with my fiancé here and can personally say it's really charming date spot

Freshest yummiest sandwiches!. I love having lunch here. Used to live around the corner and really miss having this place as one of my reg spots.

Try the Rollos (savory rolls full or deliciousness). If you're in the Glebe, you have to stop and take a break in this independently owned coffee shop, for a small treat or lunch. I have tried most items on their menu and everything is good. It's all homemade, fresh, and hasn't been sitting in the refrigerator for days.
The Empanadas are delicious, as are the Rollos. I always order a cortado, similar to a short americano but with milk, and it's as good as any cafeteria in Spain.
The place is full of regulars, which attests to the great food and coffee. Their cookie packs are perfect to take home. The staff is very friendly and the owner is obviously someone that cares about her customers.

Very cute place. This place is a great cozy, low key shop if you're looking for something besides Bridgehead. I personally love their coffee (not sure what all the fuss is about) but their food is a little dry. Definitely somewhere I would sit and chat.

No idea how people think this is a good coffee shop...... I decided to try this place. Without a doubt, hands down, the poorest "good" coffee I have ever had. Ok, honestly, lets exclude Tim's, Second cup, Timothy's.....All those places. Lets assume this is an independent coffee shop who should know coffee.

Its pretty poor. I was actually surprised how poor it was. I suppose, if you enjoy the very over roasted flavor of a Starbucks, you may like it. Thats me being fair, but if you like the new style of interesting, flavor full coffee, this place is not for you.

Morala Specialty Coffee is a good neighbourhood coffee shop to drop by for a coffee and baked good when you are in the area.

The interior is cozy and homey. The staff is friendly and efficient.

This is the first time I tried Happy Goat Coffee and ended up picking up a bag or 2 to go with me.

Cappuccino was a little weak but it is nice to support local business.

Owner berates customer for being fair. I've always been ambivalent about this place given the inanity of its prices. However, my last trip there, will certainly.be the last. As a young Asian woman stood waiting for a table, the owner chased after an older, white, moneyed-looking couple who came in after her to bring them in and give them the table she was waiting for. Confusion abounded and they left. When she realised what happened, the owner proceeded to give a nearby patron a hard time for trying to demonstrate fairness and not knowing she wanted to give over the table to that particular couple. She went on about how they would never come back because it was their second attempt to visit her establishment. It is a busy place. There is limited seating. But this approach to business is not a way to keep customers. Very disappointing.

This is my favourite coffee shop in Ottawa. The coffee is incredible, the service is always friendly and the prices are so reasonable.

The empanadas!!!. I stopped in quickly yesterday for the first time. I needed a nice place in the Glebe to do some work - but that also served almond milk lattes/cappucinos :) Before I stopped in, I read some of the reviews which mentioned empanadas. I became a huge fan of these bundles of deliciousness while living in Toronto, so I was not going to turn down this opportunity to try one in Ottawa. I got one to go for the next day. As I sat here in eating an incredibly delicious (day old!) empanada, I knew I had to write a review! Whoever makes these truly has a gift! They are light, yet filling - and the flavours are incredible!!! Sometimes empanada dough can be a bit too thick/heavy, but not these ones! They are perfect. Highly recommend!

Oh - and my almond milk latte was also delicious!!

Ashley DC. Walk into this delightful café and you'll instantly relax and enjoy. My latte and ginger cookie were delicious, loved the vibe, and the service was friendly. Definitely the best café in the Glebe.

Nice local cafe. We have eaten here several times, the desserts taste homemade and I often go here to pick up treats for home or to bring to get-togethers. I have had the sandwiches and waffles and have liked both, all ingredients are fresh. The service is welcoming and I think it is the best coffee shop in the Glebe.

Great place for a weary traveller. Love the service, sweets and yummy soup. Highly recommended.

Great snacks and good coffee. We have been coming to Morala for several years. It is a nice place to hang out on a Saturday am or a weekday late in the day and enjoy a coffee. They have an solid coffee machine.

While we have mostly focused on the sweets, the treats are always good. Favourites are the Empanadas and the peanut butter balls!

We like the atmosphere and unlike another poster, have always found the service to be friendly. They are all really nice to our kids and welcoming. Try it out for a change from the other wifi focused coffee options.

Excellent waffle. Walked over to Morala on a Sat to try the waffle. Since it is on Bank St, parking would have been an issue. The waffle was wonderful and the staff was friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back again.

The best coffee that I've had in Ottawa! I forgot to put cream and sugar in my coffee and didn't realize until half way done the cup, it's just that good! The staff are always very friendly! I always get a nice greeting and smile whenever I go in. The Lemon cookies are REALLY good too!
Chris
Meh. The coffee is good, but no better than most other places. Their staff (who I think are the owners) are...well, jerks! No sense of appreciation or customer service. Their coffee is nowhere near good enough to justify their attitudes. Oh yeah, they have "gluten free" food and use the same gluten covered tongs to fish them out of the jar. Newsflash, food covered in gluten is not gluten free.

Mayan hot chocolate, yes please!. Before walking into any cafe, I take note of its atmosphere. With that said, Cafe Morala offers a warm respite in the midst of a winter day. Its sunny walls, colorful menu and delectable goods are more than inviting (I just wish the man behind the counter could have smiled at least once!). I fought back the urge to order the same old cappucino and went with the Mayan hot chocolate as I was inspired by the cafe's Latin overtones. I did not regret this choice! Warm in temperature and flavour, and not too sweet with shavings of dark chocolate; it was just the way I like it. The matcha cookie was dry and nothing special, but I certainly appreciated the cafe's selection of diverse treats.

Best coffee in Ottawa, and wonderful baked goods. Best coffee and specialty coffees in Ottawa. Amazing Mayan hot chocolate! Delicious baked goods, including several Latin American treats. Good variety of tasty panini, including several vegetarian options. Warm friendly service. Very popular, and deservedly so.
A neighbourhood gem!

Want authentic empanadas? Yum! Find this place. A master chef formerly from Bolivia pops in daily to deliver handcrafted empanadas from a cherished family recipe. She makes them for her family, for the cafĂ© and for no one else. The chef’s love, art and tradition meld together in pure synergy to produce perfectly baked pastry stuffed with an abundance of tasty fillings like spinach, chicken-chipotle, beef-vegetable, cheese and lamb. To savour a Cafe Morala empanada is a privilege. After one bite you will "see the light." They are otherworldly.
