Review Anthony’s - Ottawa

Anna Kayden
My favourite pizza in Ottawa. The Gianni is my favourite but I recommend getting it with extra salami. Neapolitan pizza is all about the dough and I think Anthony’s really knows their stuff. The dough is chewy and salty. Haven’t had a better version in Ottawa or Toronto.

So Overrated... I was expecting the taste I have in mind, thinking the dough would be made of special/organic wheat , blood red tomato sauce (like the ones I had in my country). So Ordered 2 pizzas,The crust was chewy and wet, very light topping!! They were at best OK.Nothing to blow our minds away. Going back to my pacific veggi from Domino's.

Very nice authentic pizza place of ottawa. I would like to start by saying pizza like this will always be better when going to the location. Very friendly atmosphere and great vibe for this restaurant. Even though I got the canadese you can immediately understand this is not some drunk greasy typical Canadian pizza hahah I categorized it as fancy night date style pizza. I'm more of a 19 star scale pizza guy and I'd give this a 7.6. One of the better ones In ottawa. Definitely go check these guys out!

Really enjoyed some nice artisan pizzas from Anthony’s. The texture and flavor profiles were nice and light. I ordered the Rustica, which comes with cherry tomatoes, Arugula, shaved Parmesan, and prosciutto. The toppings combined tasted really nice together. Sometimes when I am craving for a non-greasy pizza, this is one of my go-to places in the Hintonburg neighborhood! :)

The pizza we had here was fantastic! The tomato sauce and pizza dough were on another level. Order: Margherita La Bufala ($23.00 each) x1 - Great quality pizza - Excellent tomato sauce - Great quality mozzarella - The pizza dough was great and had a slight chew to it Atmosphere and Site: - Lots of tables indoors - Nice atmosphere with an open kitchen Service: - The pizza was ready to go in 5-10 mins

The delicious smell from outside the restaurant pulled us in, and we’re glad it did! It was delicious! It’s a cozy place, good music too!

best pizza and service in town! I didn't think it could get any better, but they recently updated their menu and everything they added is top notch. I also don't have enough nice things to say about the waitresses and everyone who works there. if I'm lucky enough to see the owner when I go in he is always super friendly and goes out of his way to make sure everyone is having the best experience. a must visit place!

The pizza was pretty good, the sauce had a very "tomato" taste, I know it's not fresh tomatoes but for a tomato sauce it was fresh. The dough was good, traditional not to overshadow the pizza itself. The cheese good job, no complains there. The pizza was small for the price, it's good pizza, it's not good value. One star gone, not critical, I would probably go back if I wanted that specific taste and I'm not necessarily looking for best value when I go out for a pizza, this isn't Pizza Pizza with coupons after all. And the reason why 2 stars are gone on a takeout I was handled the terminal and I had to pick between 18, 20 and 23% tip if I recall. No option to put "no tip", no option to put 15% if you dined-in, that's some shady business practice right there: another two stars gone. I had to ask to put no tip, you know how awkward this is?! I'm a man of principle, but I'm sure many customers won't say anything and simply won't come back.

The best pizza in Ottawa, and better even than any wood oven pizza I've had in Montreal. I like the fact that they put their energy into good food instead of fancy decor or a pompous menu—when the pizza crust is that perfect, you don't need a lot of words.

I'd like to give this more stars for quality of pizza, because the pizza was good. However, service was worst we've had in Canada so far, and quite frankly, worst we've had in general in years. We were greeted by surly server who immediately demanded to know if we had a reservation. (Mind you, their website, etc give no indication of need for one or that they even accept them.) It was 4:30 on a Friday night, and we were the ONLY people in there. He then told us he could give us just one particular table...if we "gave it up" at 6. Not all other guests who arrived after us were greeted quite as rudely, even those without reservations. And let's remember it was 4:30. How long did they think it would take to turn our table?!?! It's a flipping pizza joint...not fine dining! From there, it only got worse. Server was inattentive, and clearly had no interest in making our time in their establishment a pleasant one. Add to that that they serve coke in a glass, but it's not from a gun, it's apparently a can. No free refills. How cheap are they? Add to that the uncleaned detritus on the windowsill (dead bee, anyone?) and the fact that when a neighboring table spilled some water all over the table and floor, said server just brought them a roll of paper towel and walked away for them to deal with it. He later returned and stood in the not-mopped-up puddle of water and then tracked it around when he walked away. On a hardwood floor. Slip hazard, anyone? Again, kudos to the cook for making decent pizza, but even with that, we won't be back.

I always go to Anthony 's the pizza is amazing just like your in Italy , but the pizza Wine is a must to have with your pizza , you have to eat at Anthony's best pizza in town
Isaiah Doland
Cozy atmosphere and delicious food, friendly staff and great service. I will definitely be back, recommend for anyone looking for a great spot to eat in the city for any occasion. 5 stars.
Jonathan L. Fournier
Very awesome pie. Only real authentic place in Ottawa you can get the best kind of pizza, wood oven pizza.
Julie Demers
I am completely in Love with this pizza joint. It’s the only place that I want to go for pizza except Italy.
Sharon Buglione-Buonicore
Best pizza in Ottawa!! Also best Margherita pizza in the city outside of Naples, Italy, its birthplace. Nice touch with the Gragnano wine.....excellent with pizza and sooo good!!! Our fave place!! :-)
Mike Plume
As a pizza snob, this place is arguably the best pizza restaurant in Ottawa!
Mike Eyre
Best Pizza ever! Everyone that loves pizza must try!

Always looking for tasty thin crust pizza and Anthony's delivers. Not fancy, but comfortable and pleasant service. I need to go back and try more varieties.

Great food, great service!! Great to meet a fellow aussie!!!
Nadia Staal
We thought this pizza was excellent. It took us back to Napoli for sure (which we miss dearly). We are moving to the neighbourhood and imagine we will be regulars!
Sandy Stengg
Pizza is amazing - that dough is very authentic to the Italian one - very good! Have enjoyed it and will come back. Sandy, the waitress was very friendly :-)
Marlon Dimitri
Best pizza in the city and very friendly staff. Very impressed with my entire experience
Stuart Seemungal
I've eaten at Anthony's so many times since it opened. My current fav is the pizza patane, but there are no bad pizzas on the menu here. Looking forward to seeing the renovations.

The milkiness Fiore de latte cheese will change your life
Toni-Marie Knox
Best pizza place in Ottawa! The dough is amazing!
Geri Stevens
Naked pizza. Lots of dough. No cheese on the fontina. Good sprinkling of spinach. Blah. $$$$$$$ Nice servers although excruciatingly slow. Thank you for being popular.

Showed up on Saturday at 5:20pm without a reservation (we are a family of 3). Only Half of the tables were filled. Told no seating! Was stunned that they couldn’t accommodate. So upset will never set foot there again.

Anthony's has been named one of the top 12 pizza spots in Canada by the Food Network! The wood fired pizza is amazing. Simple ingredients, the crust is both crisp, chewy, and has the perfect amount of bubbles. Yum!Service could be improved, and the interior could use an update (pretty much all the tables are wobbly).
Jennifer Erin
Amazing wood fired / authentic Italian style pizza. My favorite is the Gianni. I've been several times and to both locations. Hands down the best pizza in Ottawa.
Michelle
My parents and I had a late lunch at Anthony's during the week (a few weeks back) when there was only one other party in the place. The ambience and service was informal and laid back which I expected, but I had assumed the food would be the centrepiece. We ordered two pizzas for three people even though the server recommended one a person. Two was more than enough, especially considering one of our pizzas was burnt and in the other we found a hair that we hoped was one of ours. I wanted to love it and ignored the reviews because a few coworkers had told me it was the best pizza. I'd say if you're looking for delicious and authentic pizza in a laid back environment try Roberto's on Preston and skip this place.
Angelob_07
Best Italian pizza in Ottawa and really authentic italian. Dough elasticity, texture, temperature and taste - everything is simply perfect and fully in the spirit of authentic Italian tradition. Restaurant ambiance is also very nice and inviting during all seasons in the year. Excellent place !!
Easselin.pt
Best pizza in Ottawa, in my humble opinion. I get the Gianni pizza (minus the sausage) and I ask for Rapini instead.
Absolutely unbelievable!
A+

I really wanted to like this place. Good location, good reviews, wood burning pizza as a specialty - should have been an easy winner. We tried it twice. The first time we sat at the bar to watch the kitchen staff work their magic. They were busy with take out but only a few patrons were scattered around the dozen or so tables. There was a snow storm outside and while it wasn't more than a degree or two below zero the place was chilly. I had to tuck my coat around me and keep my scarf on despite the oven being a mere 15 feet away, and the washroom was freezing with no hot water. Willing to push through for the sake of a nice date with my better half, we ordered our drinks and waited. And waited. My caesar was nice and spicy, but nothing special. Speaking of special, if you're hoping the staff will be welcoming and helpful, guess again. Only time they warmed up was when we got the bill. But anyways. The pizza was good. We love thin crust wood fired simple pizza and this suits the bill. Having said that, for the price I expect SOME toppings, not just a hint of this and a dash of that. So while the crust texture was good, the pizza was underwhelming. Mine had Italian sausage on it that tasted very 'porky' almost gamey. My bf was pleased with his anchovy pizza, lamenting only that it was warm, not hot, cause we sat and watched his pie 'wait' for mine before they served us. Which is a bit frustrating when you've been waiting 45 minutes for your pizza and it's five feet away looking at you all hot and delicious lol. In fact if it was me I would have tried to reach for it lol. That's why he's my better half 😊.
Second time we ordered takeout. The pizzas weathered the drive home nicely. Without the negative influence of the restaurant we enjoyed it more.
$65 for two with two pizzas and two drinks.
Takeout seems to be the way to go.

I'm starting to think that this city just doesn't get pizza. One place after another has been a massive disappointment. After reading some great reviews of Anthony's and after hearing the owner talking about the food I was beyond hopeful to finally get my hands on a good pie.

Unfortunately that hope faded drastically fast. The dough was so undercooked and rubbery on the inside and burnt on the outside the pizza was nearly inedible. That aside, both pies lacked any flavour. Could be due to the skimping on the toppings. We had one with tomato pizza sauce and another white pie. How could both have the same taste? Both...Nothing! Even more disappointing was the salad. For the amount of money I am going to spend on a salad, it better be fine to me with little more than iceberg lettuce and a couple olives thrown in with a flavourless dressing tossed on the side.

I don't know if my standards or expectations are high because of my time in NYC surrounded by amazing pizza around every corner or being married to an Italian American wife. These so called pizza restaurants in this city should all rent a bus and visit NYC pizzerias and come back with a clue.

The Rustica pizza is one of the best pizza's I've ever had. Anthony's has become my go-to pizza place since moving to the neighbourhood a couple years ago. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is a great place to stop for a bite on your way home.
Ayaba
Ordered the spicy sausage pizza. Service was fast. Would have liked a bit more sausage on my pie. All said, the pizza was good but not the best I had.
Kiz
Best. Pizza. Ever.
The Anthony is my fave. Crust is perfection. Authentic wood fire pizza with quality ingredients. Try the pizza wine.
Yasin Rahman
Went to this place with two other friends, and will definitely be back for more. I got the Anthony (mozza, gorganzola, spinach, garlic) and we split the bruschetta. All items were delicious but our pizzas took some time to arrive to our table. It was a nice voluminous crust with a thin middle. The gorgonzola wasn't overpowering and the pizza wasn't soggy in the middle. Would recommend to anybody who is a fan of wood fired pizza.
Robyn
I’ve never been disappointed with the pizza at Anthony’s and our visit was no exception. The crusts were nice and crispy on the bottom and perfectly chewy on the inside; the perfect vessel for the different, delicious topping combinations. I’ve tried a number of different pizzas from Anthony’s and they have all been amazing.

Their pizzas are amazing! Oddly enough, when I think about their pizzas, what really comes to mind is the pizza bread! It's almost like a naan bread, a little stretchy and wood fire baked. It's just perfect! From my experience, the only somewhat negative comment, is the service. Their not rude or anything, just not inviting or friendly.
Lauren Jane M
Pizza that I could eat everyday! The crust is perfectly hand rolled and cooked to beautifully every time. The Franco is my favourite! Pizza enthusiasts, this is a must try in Ottawa!
Supert
Visited on a Tuesday night and place was busy; we were lucky to get last table. Ordered the Franco pizza (with sausage, sautéed onions, black olives, mozzarella, and goat cheese), it was underwhelming. IMHO more sautéed onions and sausage could have added the flavour punch I had expected. Crust was too thick (and bland) and over powered pizza ingredients.

Save yourself the disappointment and go elsewhere for your pizza.

Went there for girls' night yesterday. We all ordered Anthony's famous pizzas. I must say, I was not impressed with the pies, they were pretty bland. I had to add a lot of parmesan and crushed peppers to have some taste. In addition, service was below average. Drinks took longer than the pizzas.
Jellyfish
I came in with a friend one evening. The waitress was not very attentive, we had to flag her down every time despite sitting next to the counter. She even forgot our beer!

Besides that, the pizzas we ordered very pretty good! The dough had a nice chewy and firm texture. We shared a Margherita and Ortolano. Large portions! We really stuffed ourselves.

We went to the new Anthony in the Glebe. The service from Erica was fun and efficient and the pizza to its reputation. We were there on a Friday night and when we left around 9:00 it became very quiet. Very nice place but the original on Wellington has a better ambiance.
David Mazur-Goulet
Long wait between ordering and receiving our meals; more than 1h and 15min. If you eat gluten-free, their pizzas are seriously lacking for the $20+ price. Chicken wings were delightful and Anthony's chop salad was satisfying.
FoodAficionado
I'd recommend giving the pizza a try but stay away from the wings and the meatball appetizers. The wings had too much rosemary in the them where its all that you tasted and the meatballs tasted like freezer burn.
Heather Garrod
Went to the new location in the Glebe today and have to say, was very disappointed. Of the 6 items on the menu, the 2 salads were not available (this was 1 p.m. int he afternoon and there was no lettuce, apparently). So I ordered the pizza with basil. Pretty tasteless, and exactly 1 and 1/2 leaves of basil on the whole pizza. The waiter asked if everything was ok, but clearly was in a hurry and didn't really wait to see how we liked the food. Sadly, two thumbs down for this new restaurant.

Anthony's was recently featured on a local morning show. It's rated one of the best in Canada by Food Network. We tried it out tonight. Not bad, great crust, nice sauce, but honestly, we've had better. Our favorite in the city is still Tenesee Willem's, just down the street fro Anthonys. More daring ingredients, bolder flavours and a better ambience.
Michel
We had dinner 4 of us, first order an appetizer and it was wing the wings lack taste very fade and after that we order 4 different pizza and we share then all.

I have to say it was a WOW, the crust excellent the Franco outstanding the bruschetta again awesome the potato one outstanding and the super was very good.

Definitely a return trip, pricing is adequate and service very good

Four of us visited on Friday July 3 for dinner at 5pm. A few of craft beers on tap with a grapefruit inspired beer from Kichesippi that my buddy ordered but I found a bit sweet so I went with the Beaus. Apps are not the greatest with the chicken wings a bit overdone with no seasoning and the meat balls with no zing but the pizza was very good. The crust is chewy and crispy not that cake like stuff so prevalent in Ottawa. The sauce was authentic Italy I guess to say crushed San Marzano with a bit of salt again simple yet tasty to blend with the other flavors. My only gripe was with the cheese, a bit on the light side. Don't get me wrong great pizza does not need globs of it like we see in this city but Anthony's should put a bit more on theirs. I ordered my Salsiccia with pepperoni and was a bit dismayed with the cut of the pepperoni. The positives outweigh the negatives and we will be back for sure.

My wife and I are always on the lookout for great authentic pizza, and Anthony's certainly has it! It was our first time here, and we ordered the Margherita and the Primavera (we're vegetarian), and they arrived just the way wood-fired pizza should be, thin-crusted and delicious. The servers were friendly, and we even got to know Tony, the owner. Although every seat in the house was full when we arrived so we had to wait a few minutes for someone to leave, service was fast and we were treated like we were the only customers in the place. We live out of town, but we'll make a point of visiting Anthony's every chance we get. People who are used to the standard thick-crust North American pizza smothered in cheese and baked in a gas oven should go elsewhere, but if you like a bit of real wood-fired flavour along with friendly and fast service, and some good local craft beer on tap as well, you'll like this place. Gotta mention the calzones as well, although we didn't have one, my wife was poking me and getting me to look over at the next table where they were enjoying them, gotta give that a try next time :-) Thanks, Tony and team!

Best pizza in Ottawa. Anthony's has been my favourite pizza place in Ottawa for the passed couple of years. I have been here at least a dozen times and it never disappoints.
I usually get the Margherita but I have tried the Quattro stagioni, Canadese in the past and all were very good!
The first thing you notice is the fresh dough which is crispy on the outside soft on the inside with a little chew. Perfect!
The tomato sauce is just how I like it. It's not run through the spice factory but has a fresh tomato flavor with some fragrant basil leaves.
The service is always attentive and spot on!
I suggested Anthony's to many different people and it always gets rave reviews.
Gerda
Amazing crust! This is by far my favourite pizza in Ottawa. Simple and delicious.

Amazing taste. Best pizzas in Ottawa :)

First time I tried this place I loved it. Great service, great pizza.
But the second time I wasn't so impressed. The waiter didn't even smile once, didn't refill our water, never asked how the food was... And as for the pizza, it had minimal toppings and very dry (must have been a different cook).
Either way, I was disappointed since the first time I loved it. Maybe it's just one of those places that's not always consistent... Which is too bad.

Great food and service!. Awesome dinner and drinks tonight. Was packed and everything was delicious. Kind staff and excellent service. We will be back. Mmmmmm
Food Baby
Come on. I hate to judge anything harshly but the pizza I had was burnt and the toppings were minimal (even with the extra items added) with zero flavor other than burnt charred crust. Pretty disappointing. I showed the server and showed him the burnt crust. I guess this place is not for me.
Tommy
Wow!!! Nice pizza and the wings Was amazing
Holapoppet
Lackluster. Ordered the Canadese and the Wood Fired Wings.
The pizza was ok, nothing special. The topping were fresh. I asked to add caramelized onions topping for my pizza and was instead giving my appetizer (the wings) with the onions. I don't know how he mixed that up, we spoke clearly. I assume it was a lack of care since he repeated our order correctly to us.
The dough was generic and ok at best. The wings were crunchy but lacked any flavour whatsoever.
Would not recommend, there are better places.

I recently returned from a 2 wk trip in Naples Italy where my eyes were opened to a different style of pizza. It is not your typical Pizza Hut, pizza pizza style pie over there, and that is a good thing. When I came back home I immediately searched for a Neapolitan style pizzeria and found Anthony's. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the pizza as it was identical to the pizza I had eaten during my trip in Italy. Can't wait to go back
Lono
Beautiful, delicious pizza's. Tried 3 and all were great, reminds me of Capri, thin crust, fresh, loved them.

Edit: huge BUT - DO NOT BOTHER WITH THEIR GLUTEN FREE pizza. A sad, pathetic atrocity they should be embarrassed to even offer, let alone sell at extra cost!
Pep
A little taste of naples in our nation capital.. Don't miss out on ottawas best wood burning pizza. I can't say enough good things about this place, its as good as it gets outside of the homeland.

Enjoy!
Oceanbreeze4evr
Horrible service and cold food. A group of us from work came here to celebrate a new job for one of our coworkers. We were a larger group so we pre ordered our meals to help it go faster.

The server didn't ask if we wanted drinks so eventually I asked her for water when my food arrived. 15 minutes later no water and I had reminded her twice more. Finally after someone else asked she came with drinks. By that time of course my pizza was cold and soggy and inedible.

I do not recommend this place.
Monique Kaye
Not my preference. I was here a few months ago with some friends. We ordered the tapas board to share for 4 people that included salami, mozzarella, prosciutto, eggplant, roasted red peppers, olives and some bread. It was very tasty but the board itself was very small so the ingredients were almost spilling over on to the table. For my main, I split one of the pizza with a friend and we decided on the 4 seasons pizza. that included black olives, artichoke, sundried tomatoes and prosciutto. The pizza was a bit too well done for my taste. I realize that it is the method in which they are serving it but it tasted a bit too burnt for my taste buds. The combination of the ingredients was quite lovely. The service was alright, though a little slow.

Ate at Anthony's now a bunch of times it is without a doubt the best pizza I've had since Italy!!! It's so good that while on vacation it was all I was craving and was my first stop when I got home. If you haven't already tried it stop what you're doing and go there immediately!!!
CARLA
Love this place reminds my of Italy.
Great owner very friendly and comfortable atmosphere.

Delicious pizza. I've missed good pizza having been on the West coast and Anthony's hit the spot. Had the Margherita. It was delicious. Delicately crispy, but chewy crust with perferct amount of char. Ingredients were very fresh. I'd swear they has a basil garden on the premises somewhere. Tomato sauce was fresh, bright, and well rounded. Cheese was milky and fresh and had great consistency. Superb pizza and flavour and seasoning was great - nothing else needed. Will be back.
Marcp
Anthony. Great pizza. very happy with dinner and service. Will come back.
HungryCat
Pizzaholics won't be disappointed!. Awesome pizza, authentic Italian thin crust!!! also the nutellino is a must try

Good stuff!. Happened upon Anthony's hungry and too often disappointed by unknown places.
A tall Beau's beer and a most excellent Pizza Primavera restored my faith in those great little restaurants we happen upon. Everything , the service, the ambiance,
the quality of the food and how well it was prepared, that made my day.
Will be back for non ordinary comfort food, loved it.

Finally real italien pizza in ottawa for some people sauce simple but if u go to Italy they all make it that way I will come back 4 sure

Un po Di Napoli ad Ottawa. I came from Italy 2 months ago, I am Italian from Napoli and for sure, i can say is the best pizza in Ottawa. A pizza napoletana in Canada .....SMALL world
Albe_azzurri
Great pizza. I've been here for both lunch and dinner. This is the closest pizza you will find in the city that is authentic Italian. I've read some reviews and was surprised to see people mention "cold", "burnt", "cheap toppings". If anything prosciutto and fior di latte are anything but cheap. The pizza is the best in the city, Moretti is all I need to drink when having a pizza (check). The one thing they can fix is the salads. Need to add a few green options to go with those personal pizzas.
As for ambiance, it is what it is, a pizzeria. Small, not flashy and laid back.
Will keep going back.
Wagginsteve
Love the food.. I have been to Anthony's 4-5 times in the evenings and I have never been let down. The pizza is always spot on. I always see the same chef in the kitchen dictating the orders. I assumed it is the owner however the server informed me he is just an employee.

The service for the most part is good. Sometimes a little too chatty or arrogant depending on the person but everyone has different personalities.

All in all, love the atmosphere and most importantly the food.

Will be back!
Kittybites
Super Kid Friendly and Yummy!. What can I say -- when mommy comes home tired from work, I lobby for dinner at Anthony's and I hear no complaints. Pizza is truly authentic to what you taste in Italy and the simple menu of pizza, salads, and a few appetizers, satisfies both the F1 generation and the parental units. My personal favorite is the Quattro Stagioni – seasons mixed or separated. Indeed the kids always declare to the waitress when they leave “I love your Pizza”. And I love the House Pizza Wine (Lambrusco? – red sparkling) – a cold crispy start to evening. And the Nutellino dessert is simple yet simply delightful.
Plus you just got to love the staff – some stolen/recruited from Phil’s across the road.
But the best part is the price doesn’t make you feel guilty for skipping your kitchen duty.

Great Pizza!. We decided to stop in at this place to meet with some friends. This place was recommended by a local of the city. When we walked in, we were greeted by a courteous server who told us to choose where we wanted to sit. We chose a table near the front of the restaurant. The restaurant itself was very small, there were only about six or seven tables which were all full when we arrived. Our server came over to take our drink order after we arrived. After receiving our drinks (which came fairly quickly), we ordered our menu items. We first chose an appetizer, which was the meatball and garlic bread combination. The meatball was very good; it tasted as authentic as a real Italian meatball. It had just the perfect amount of sauce (not drenched) and it was nice and hot. After about 15 minutes, we received our pizzas. We ordered two margharita pizzas, one had sausage on it, the other had prosciutto. Both of the pizzas tasted excellent, they were thin crust with the perfect amount of melted cheese and sauce. They were well-done, but not burnt. It was probably the best thin crust pizza outside of Italy that I had ever tasted. It was also a good size; definitely good for sharing between two people. We were surprised with how good the items were, truly authentic Italian! Our server was always attentive and asked us how we were enjoying everything. Even the atmosphere felt very Italian; with the decor and the music, you would have thought you were in Italy. Will definitely return and will recommend to others!
Terra
Really?. A very definite disappointment!!
How can a pizza manage to come out bunt, cold, and dry as a piece of sandpaper all at the same time ? Top that off with an annoying chattering server asking if we 'had any questions' (about pizza?) and a ridiculously limited choice of beer, and you get yet another Wellington West over-priced under-whelming offering.
Michele
Closest to Naples in Ottawa. FINALLY a real Italian pizza trattoria! Went there with another couple. We've all been to the Italy many times. I long for that taste you can only get in Italy. Anthony's is the closest to it. In between trips to Italy...this is where I go to remember the last trip. FYI: Real Italian PIzza is very thin crust cooked in a wood burning stove with very little topping. It's the crust and fresh ingredients that makes all the difference. No need to add full toppings and greasy cheese to get amazing flavours! All you need is fresh ingredients, little olive oil and a nice glass of rosso.
CaptainPorkchop
Impressed. After reading some of the reviews I was hesitant but curious. We were impressed and will definitely have their pizza again. Ambiance and romance aren't part of the feel but its more of a place to relax and have a glass of wine after a long day, nice and casual.
Maggy
Big Disappointment... One of the worst pizza experiences ever. Very skimpy toppings, burned crust, not equal to most take-out places.

For Gluten-free diner it seems they use rice flour which is awful. Apparently, it's better at Pizza Pizza and Colonnade.

Anthony's Pizza is good. I’ve been to Anthony’s for lunch three times now and I will return. I find the pizza quite good, albeit too large. The atmosphere is plain but comfortable and the service was pleasant and fast, but not helpful.

Pizzas are thin crust. They come uncut and are a bit difficult to cut. They are fresh, crispy and the ingredients appear to be fresh and interesting. One problem is the size. They offer only one size which is too much for the normal person for lunch. So either you stuff yourself or take home the leftovers. On my third visit I suggested to my partner that we share a salad and one pizza. This is a good idea, but unfortunately, we did not enjoy the salad. It was the house salad, was fresh for sure, but made with iceberg lettuce. If they had used romaine or spring mix the salad would have been exponentially better. As is was, it was just too plain and disappointing.

The Quatro is one pizza I quite enjoyed. Beware of the way the menu is written: Under “Pizzas” you will find things such as Calzone, which I mistakenly thought was just a name of a pizza, but is not a pizza in the traditional sense. Last time, my friend tried one pizza which to our surprise came to her cold. The tomato toppings were freshly cut and cold. Even the crumbled goat cheese was cold, not melted. We all found this a bit strange and did not enjoy it. The menu or server should have mentioned this pizza would be served cold.

One time I tried the lightest beer they have. (I can’t remember the name.) I enjoy most beers, but did not at all like this one. It was extremely weak and tasteless. Their selection of beer is very limited.

Two of the three times I was there, we had the same server, a woman who I can only describe as ditsy. She was pleasant enough but made no suggestions, did not help us choose items or describe them, and forgot a drink at one point. Pizzas were not delivered together, so three of us were served at different times, not good. She also did not understand our confusion over the cold pizza or the calzone issue when we questioned her on them.

In short, I like the food and would definitely go back.

Solid pizza. Proper thin crust, closest to Naples (authentic) style I have had in Ottawa. Not a fan of the wings, but its just not my type of wing, thats all. Pizza is not overloaded with toppings, its simple but good, as it should be. Would love if they had a few more wines and beers to chose from. Service we had was very very good, but there were only 6 people in the place.
Will go back for the pizza.

Don't eat here. I have tried this place a few times, as it is close to my home and didn't want too quick to judge it. However, I can't say that after my third and final time. I ordered the bruschetta pizza, which sounded really good and was recommended by the waiter. It said on the menu it that it was just bruschetta and goat cheese. Well that's literally all it was, bruschetta and chunks of goat cheese piled on wood oven cooked dough. It didn't even look like fresh bruschetta as I saw him put it on it came out of a container. Trying to eat this thing was ridiculous because everything keeps on falling off. They market there pizza's as being new and authentic but they're super bland with not a lot of flavor. The service was fine, but not enough to make up for the food. I would rather the pizza pizza across the street then eat at this place again.

A great pizza -- easily in the top 5 in ottawa.. What really impresses is the service and passion from the owner himself -- thanks Anthony!

A mixed experience. We went on a Friday evening. The service was fine in that our server was attentive and helpful. However, we waited more than one hour to receive our order which consisted of one calzone and two pizzas. Our server provided complimentary second rounds of iced tea because of the delay (at the 45 minute mark) and then offered me a glass of wine (at the one hour mark). The food when it came was of mixed quality. My sausage pizza was excellent, probably the best I've had outside Italy. The crust was perfect, the tomato sauce topping delicious and the sausages has just the right degree of spice. However, one companion's pizza (the bruschetta) was just plain weird. The crust was nicely cooked but the topping although very tasty was refrigerator cold -- just like on a bruschetta appetizer. My other companion's calzone was likewise odd. It was huge. The woman at the neighboring table commented that it was the size of a small baby and she wasn't exaggerating. Taste-wise, the crust was excellent but the filling was meagre and it was served with an ice cold tomato sauce. Not good - why wasn't this served hot? Also, I agree with other reviewers that if the owner wants to have a small menu, fine, but he should include a better selection of pizzas. Ditch the bruschetta as a pizza and serve the topping as bruscetta. In sum, I might not go back due to the too-long wait, although my pizza was excellent. Maybe I'll try it early on a weeknight.

Just overall bad - should have listened to the other reviewers!. We thought we'd give this place a chance since it's a quick min drive from our place, even though there's been a bunch of bad reviews.

The service was mediocre. Nothing bad, but just nothing great. We ordered dinner for 2. The pizzas took much longer than expected, and were lacking of any of the taste and flavours one would hope for in a "gourmet pizzeria". Somehow, the crust seemed stale, although it was obvious it was just cooked. The toppings were lacking creativity, and mostly bland. It was just cheap pizza, with cheap toppings, except cooked in a fire-burning oven. Unfortunately, the oven couldn't make up for everything else. The interior design lacked any kind of style. All in all, I would suggest that if you want a tastier pizza in the area, head to tennessee williams, or even just cross the street and eat at pizza pizza (and save yourself the couple of buck!)

Simply.....Great Authentic Pizza!. Great authentic wood burning oven pizza finally in Ottawa! We have had great pizza in its home of origin Naples, Italy and Anthony's has finally brought real pizza to Ottawa. We have tried every restaurant in the city that claims they make authentic thin crust pizza but they just don't get it. Anthony's on the other hand has wonderfuly cooked pizza crust (thin not soggy but full of flavour) with a homemade pizza sauce (that taste's like anyone's italian nonna would make) and just the right mix of creative toppings resulting in a most wonderful simple culinary experience. Anthony, the owner, is friendly and passionate about keeping the pizza authentic. Thank you Anthony Ottawa needed this!

Been there five or ten times and always satisfied with the food and service. Great tasting traditional pizza with real tomato sauce and perfectly prepared thin crust.

Reasonable prices too! Our family's go-to place.

Absolutely terrible. Everything was burnt (and i mean charred) with the waitress only offering the laughable excuse that the menu cautions that 'all pizzas are done well'. Apparently the owner doesn't understand the wide gap that separates 'done well' from 'well done' (let alone from 'overdone').

Very good food! The service was also friendly and helpful. The pizzas are easy to mix up and substitute toppings (sometimes an extra charge but not expensive). The dining area does get a bit noisy with other people but overall very good value for the food and drinks! I am definitly going to go again.

Worst Experience of my life.. I have never experienced such terrible service, and quality of pizza. First of all it took about 10 minutes for the waiter to bring our menus. 20 more minutes to receive our drink's, which were simple 3 pops and a water. The restaurant felt about 40 degrees. When the waiter finally took our orders, he had to come back 3 times to ask again because he forgot. The restaurant, mind you, was not busy at all. When our pizza finally arrived, one of them was burnt to a crisp. You couldn't cut into it, let alone attempt a bite. It was sent back, and we were told we wouldn't be charged for it, which we were. At the same time as we ordered those pizza's, we ordered one to go. Which they messed up on, so it had to be re-done. When we were finished eating, the waiter offered dessert on him. To which we declined, only to be asked at least 4, or 5 other times. We said we wanted to leave, so we waited for about 10 more minutes for the bill. We had to ask another waiter to bring it, which they didn't. We then moved outside, to try and cool down from the intense heat, where we continued to wait for the bill, and the to go pizza, which still wasn't ready. When we finally paid, $50 later, we waited about 15-20 minutes on the to go pizza. Our experience was so horrible we ended up just walking away without the pizza.
I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone who is looking for an enjoyable, affordable evening of pizza.

I went to Anthony last night for my bf birthday who ironically name is Anthony! We went with a larger group as ordered 6 pizzas to share. The pizza was delicious, we ordered 2 margarita, bruschetta, Quattro stagioni, salaisica and ortalano. They were great. Cooked well and were served together, which allowed us to share. The atmosphere was casual but inviting. Great family resturant. We then ordered the nutelino, which is a calzone stuffed with nutella! So sweet but to die for.
Def will go back! Thanks for a great meal!

Great pie and friendly staff. I have been to Anthony's twice, each time for lunch. I had a prosciutto and olive pizza the first time and a Quattro stagioni the second. Each time I was there the pizza was fresh and delicious, and Anthony himself was around to check on our satisfaction. Great spot for a lunch meeting.
Will be back.

Food was ok, service was horrible. We went in just after it opened on a Sunday at 5pm. It was very busy but waited about 40 minutes for our entrees, but was informed one entree had to be redone because they burnt it!

Just okay. After reading great reviews both here and from the Citizen I was excited to try this place out. I was disappointed with the taste of the food and the fact they had no wine menu set. In addition, I found the sauce to boring with no taste. There is no atmosphere either.
On a plus side, the server was really nice and the experience was very affordable for dinner for 4 people with a bottle of wine.Overall, if you are looking for an affordable meal for four than its worth a try, but for taste its nothing impressive.

Not so great. Went here a few days after it opened. The server was very nice and attentive. My friend and I ordered a pizza, salad and half litre of wine. The wine was fine but could have been colder. The pizza was completely black on the bottom, I pointed this out to the waitress and she agreed that is was burned and would order a new one.
The owner a large fellow with a garish shirt then came back with the same pizza and said that wood burning oven pizza was always like this. I told him that was not the case at the Back Alley or Tenessee Willams. He then got quite upset and said unlike them he made his own dough and was authentic. He refused to cook a new pizza. Will never go back.

Nice atmosphere. I really enjoyed this place: it was tasteful and understated. Restaurants that serve food from a specific (foreign) country like Italy, Greece, or China often go overboard with the tacky decor, to try to pander to North American stereotypes of what other countries are *supposed* to be like, or fall victim to designer-itis, letting some designer decorate in a way that will look good in his/her portfolio rather than actually server the patrons.

Anthony's, on the other hand, was just right, simple and understated, with just a couple of vintage beer ads and football (soccer) pennants showing a connection with Italy. It feels a lot more like a casual neighbourhood place in Italy than like a badda-bim! badda-boom! East Side Mario's (or New York's Mulberry Street) nightmare.

Oh yes, best pizza I've had in Ottawa, too.

Great pizza, disappointing ambiance. I read the Ottawa Citizen review of Anthony's which intrigued me as I live in the area. Our experience was exactly as the Citizen described - very friendly service, terrific thin crust pizza, but the decor and ambiance is horribly lacking. Unfortunately, as a result I would not go back -- it's not a pleasant environment at all -- this place desperately needs to consult an interior designer and invest in the dining experience, not just the food. It was noisy, bland (empty Pellegrino bottles at the front door as the first hint of decor?!) and cold - really not suitable for either a romantic dinner or a fun girl's night out. There is way too much competition from restaurants nearby with a warm, friendly vibe (think Hintonburg Public House, Tennesy Willems, Back Lane Cafe) for this to be competitive. Food-wise, the menu lacked imagination and the pizzas were odd in having the toppings in separate mounds (all olives in one corner, all prosciutto in the other etc). Also, the tomato mozzarella salad was not up to par ... tasted like very cold, tasteless tomatoes from a big box grocery store -- hardly red at all... quality of ingredients was lacking.

I really hope Anthony's can build a successful business around the great pizza -- I think it will take a real investment in the decor (that looks and feels exactly like a boxy former Pawn shop, with not so much as a curtain or painting on a wall) and they should also make the menu more interesting and offer the kind of ranges of wood oven pizzas that we come to expect among other similar restaurants.
