Review The Fish Market Restaurant - Ottawa

Laith A.
It's my first time at the Fish Market, but definitely of more to come. Beautiful and comfortable, lovely theme, clean, fast and excellent service always checking on tables. Food: wonderful menu, a lot of unique options, a wide variety of fish, salads, sides, platters... Price: A bit above average but you're getting it in quality and good portions, so you're getting a good value. Average $35 per person (no alcohol).

The fish was nice and the service was also top notch. The portions were sufficient. All the dishes were nicely decorated. The restaurant wasn't too busy and the food came out relatively quickly. I probably wouldn't go way out of the way to come here, but if you're in the neighborhood craving seafood, it's a good spot. No complaints.

A place that will never disappoint....one if the best ways to describe this restaurant. Starting with the extremely experienced waiter. Our waiter ask the right questions at the right times and was really on point. He was also accommodating to my wife's special request. The food was just as amazing this experience as it was my last. Very cozy atmosphere and excellent as a first date or as a ritual. Cant wait to go back. If you are a tourist in the city...GO!!!

This is a restaurant we visit every time we are in Ottawa. Food is great, particularly the seafood chowder. Kids menu portion is of good size. However, interior of the restaurant needs update.

The service could not have been better! The server was very nice and helpful. 3 of the 4 plates that we got were fantastic! The scallops, scallops and shrimp and 3 way shrimp were fantastic. The 3 fish sampler was not good at all. Tuna was way overcooked, the swordfish was very very fatty but the artic char good. I would come back but I would have the catfish instead!

Great food and excellent service! Booked a reservation and was told the valentines day special was no longer offered which was not a problem. I asked if there was anything on the menu that wasn’t available and they said they might be out of calamari. I said thats fine and went ahead with the reso. When we got to the restaurant, the waitstaff and the hostess knew our names and told us they had reserved some calamari for us! Fantastic food all around and great service. Would absolutely order the same menu again: Clam chowder Lobster poutine Lobster Platter Calamari

If you're in the mood for seafood you have to come here. Service is super friendly, and the prices are affordable. They bring you fresh bread with fennel oil dip with your drinks and the food came out pretty quickly considering it was busy that day. The salmon is especially good. Cocktails are great, but the moscow had powdered lime flavour instead of actual lime. Calamari rings could be fresher too. Other that, definitely a good spot.

Amazing food. The seafood citrus salad is my favorite. The service is great. Food portions are generous and the taste is delicious. We had a teenager who's a picky eater, yet he loved the food. A bit pricey but Highly recommended.

My third time there and I can honestly say their service is second to none. Christian was our server and made the meal even more wonderful....which was already pretty darn good ;) But when you have the perfect trifecta of good service, good customer service and great food....makes it a place you want to go back to :)

Excellent food, excellent service. Top notch, best fish in the market!

We were in Ottawa for a long weekend getaway with my family friends and we had a great time touring the area. On our last day we decided to have a good seafood meal. I searched the web and I came across this restaurant. I thought it was the best place to go but I was wrong. First, the waiting time was too long to be serve with our appetizers. After almost and hour of waiting, we were served with our bread after half an hour or so our appetizer arrived. Then came our main dish. We were disappointed. The Louisiana catfish ( we ordered 3 ) were very salty, the tomato linguine with shrimps were very oily, the escargot is slightly over cooked but the coconut shrimp and trout was delicious. Our server was kinda rude, saying " how is be her fault for the long wait ?" If you are in this business "hospitality " is very important for the customers, isn't it? Definitely, I will not recommend this restaurant. Next time I travel, I will check the online review first.

Fresh seafood and friendly, helpful staff. Dietary requirements were considered with no fuss. Excellent meal.

We had an extremely large group so it took a very long time for everything...drinks...food...bills. 1 waitress for 15 people. Would have thought they would staff another person to help out. I had the Cajun blackened catfish. Don't bother...it tasted very Cajun...but there was no taste of fish. I've eaten here before and had a good experience, but this one stunk

First time in Ottawa... My friends and I had a night out and we ate here... It was a few mins to closing time but they accommodated us. We had superb service from Arthur. Jovial, friendly, went above and beyond to serve us excellently! The bread and dip was lovely. The food was great. A Lil pricey but between service and taste we got our moneys worth. John was excellent too....awesome Lil place!!! Recommending it without hesitation.

My colleague, Dr. Justin Brown and I were in town for the Society for Community Research and Action conference, at the University of Ottawa. Tired off conference food and eager to act like tourists, we shopped at the market and dined at the Fish Market. Noemi was our server; her service was STELLAR! I have serious food allergies to: nickel = gluten, soy, wheat and much more. Noemi helped me choose the Honduras tilapia with red pepper cream sauce, rice pilaf and creme brûlée. Thank you for your flexibility. If you're in town, please town check this gem of a restaurant out.

The food there was okay but. The food there was pretty bland. The fries didn't really have any flavour, the grilled chicken felt dry. It would have been lower if it weren't for the bread and the soft drinks

It's my first time here in the capital and was looking for a good place to eat and relax. My father and i went lastnight and ordered stew (we had the same order) we waited for a while to be seated and prompted to our tiny table in the corner. The place was cozy, but one thing my father and i dislike the most was the waiter, he was rude to us, that prompted my father not to enjoy the dining experience.

Sitting here right now....Sunday nights night, been here over 20 minutes and so far just our drinks have been served. The crowd is steady, but not packed by any stretch of the imagination. I hope the food is good because they are damn slow in getting it to you. UPDATE...30 minutes and it finally showed up, salad and entrees all at once. My daughters shrimp enroll is ok, but the chowder is horrible, her salad... well its salad, you really have to try to mess that up. I had the pasta special, nothing to write home about there either. The pasta and shrimp both over cooked. My wife had the shrimp and veggies with rice and again the shrimp were over done. The dollar amount was also OVERDONE. The total for our meal, not including tip was $87.00. I did leave a tip because the waitress did her job well. She is not to fault for mediocre food at high prices. So unless you enjoy paying too much for bad food that takes forever to get, I would look elsewhere.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in the market. We had great service, excellent food and delicious drinks (best Pimms cup I've had downtown). Big portions and reasonable prices, and so fresh! We'll be back
Kim Rogers
Service was good, our waitress was super nice but our food was just “ok” and definitely not worth $225. We aren’t likely to return
Ann Vanderlind
It was over priced for lunch Mill Street sample beer meh should have gone with domestic
Estrellita Estrella
The shrimp dish was good. The escargot and calamari were too well done. It's quite expensive there but I knew that as I go there every time I'm in Ottawa though food this time isn't as good as before
Kathleen Buttari
The prices were outrageous The options were very slim with only tried as a side. My dish was $58 and was small portioned and I left hungry. Very disappointed .

It's tradition to go to the fish market when in Ottawa! Haven't been in 7-8 years but still fantastic! A little pricey but overall to be expected for the area and style of food! Always enjoyable!!

One of my favourite places to eat in Ottawa. The escargot appetizer is delish. Great choices in fresh water fish and seafood. Our waitress Lindsay was very nice and has a lovely personality.
Mike Bennett
It was just okay. I had the Maritime Platter and found the lobster was a bit tough. I have eaten here several times before and have enjoyed it more than this time.
Chantale Talbot
Very nice place to have dinner. The waitress was very honest. Overall great experience.
Foodie Girly
Very underwhelming. The menu seemed basic enough for a fish place but for a restaurant that has the word fish in it... you go in with higher expectations. From the mains we ordered arctic char and the shrimp and scallops platters. Both dishes lacked basic seasoning of salt and pepper it was so bland. The overall quantity is disappointing. I won’t even bother complaining about the appetizers. During the course of our dinner we felt that dishes like shrimp and Arctic char can be made better at home. next time I will just do that. The scallops were small in size and worst of all lacked freshness one would think it would be considering the price (35$+). Overall our entire dinner was a huge disappointment. didnt bother ordering dessert because I didn’t want to be disappointed any further. I wouldn’t recommend this place. Now I wish we didn’t go there for our 11th anniversary. The service was good though. That’s all.

I was visiting Ottawa and a friend highly recommended this place. I drove all the way from Vanier neighborhood to Byward Market. Being from Toronto / Mississauga, it was a pleasant experience in terms of parking and traffic. Anyhow, the restaurant was quite empty since it was 4.30 pm when I got there. I ordered a mix fish platter. To my disappointment, food was not very good and it seemed that the fish was not fresh except Salamon, which was good. I think the restaurant is more famous for its location and not necessarily its food. I then walked around the area where there was a farmer's market. I also thought the food was VERY EXPENSIVE. It cost me almost $40, just for myself. I don't think I am going there again.
Hello. Imnikki
The Fish Market Restaurant was average on one front, but woeful in another. The food is simple and unfussy, there's nothing that blows your socks off, and yet they are somewhat enjoyable and very filling. To give an example, the fish and chips had one piece that was lightly battered and crunchy, but the other piece was encased in a thick batter. The chips were half and half - half soggy and half crispy. The rest of the dishes followed the same style. However one thing stood out - the terribly slow and disinterested service. The slow service would have been forgivable seeing that they were packed, but the attitude of one waitress was horrible. She avoided eye contact, walked past while ignoring you, pretended not to hear you and generally looking sour-faced the whole night. She should learn from the other good-humoured waitress who was smiling and cracking jokes with patrons despite being under pressure.

Food was very tasty and the service was reasonable. However, we ended up paying double the price for what we ordered. As we were seated to have dinner, our waiter handed us the lunch menu (which we thought was the same as their dinner menu). We ordered two dishes, each was around $21. When we got the bill, the prices were $32 and $35. That's a significant increase from what was on our menu. The waiter did not deny that the prices are higher at dinner but did not find it a big deal that he did not inform of us of the price difference at the time we ordered. Needless to say, that was an unpleasant ending to our nice evening out.

Excellent seafood and a to-die-for escargot. I also love the warm bread and olive oil mixture they serve before the meal. It's a lovely lead-up to the delicious seafood that follows. The maritime platter is a great selection of lobster, king crab legs and salmon, with garlic butter, mushrooms and potatoes. Absolutely delightful. Ordered the shrimp & scallops entree as well, however, the spicy tomato sauce it was cooked in was not as flavourful as I had hoped. Very attentive and friendly service.

We went there for Valentine's Day, the venue looked great. Our server was rude, prices were very expensive, I would recommend you to the keg which is just 2 blocks down the street or the whales bone on Elgin street. Do not come here, you will waste your money, your time.
Pipa
I've been here quite a few times and I have enjoyed trying out the menu. The lobster linguine is very decedent and cat fish is cooked perfectly. The highlight of our lunch is the infused olive oil that comes with the bread. They sell the mixture in a bottle so you can bring home which is fantastic because it's compliments a lot of dishes. My only negative is the service sometimes.
On Friday during lunch there was no one to greet us, no cutlery, and no water was offered. A window cleaner bottle was left on the booth and our waitress was wearing a filthy apron. It makes you wonder about the overall cleanness standard. Other than that it's a lovely establishment and I hope to see the staff maintain standards so I can continue coming back since I'm a big seafood fan!

We arrived just prior to the main level Fish Market shutting down for the afternoon (4:00pm). We had no issues ordering from the lunch menu, had friendly service and always had fresh coffee and water topped up. I had ordered the seared tuna with a salad. The fish was done to perfection, the salad was unique with a hint of horseradish. My wife had fish and chips (haddock). Nicely done. We finished off with the peanut butter chocolate brownie cheesecake (wow). Yes, it was a bit expensive at $74.00 before the tip, but well worth every penny!

The food was okay, and the service was fine. There was nothing special about our experience here. Nothing fantastic, but nothing horrible. I felt like it was slightly overpriced for what we got.

Byward Market is quite a neat place with flee markets, boutiques and restaurants everywhere. It reminds me a bit of Quincy Market in Boston. They both have a similar idea and airy atmosphere; both chilly and cold in the winter. The Fish Market is on the main floor of the building. The second floor is a sister restaurant that serves all you can eat seafood meals and the basement is a brother restaurant that serves more seafood. On the day we went (Sunday), only the Fish Market was opened during noon hours.

Me and my wife were at the market, like we do every week, to buy hot peppers and see what the street vendors are selling, and decided to go have lunch at the Fishmarket, for a good ol'fish and chip and a beer. So we started with some fried calamari, and for the main dish, a fish and chip for each of us. Cost us a bangin 75$ plus 10$ tip. The service was excellent so was the food, but the prices a bit high for what it was.

We went in, got seated and waited for 15 minutes and nobody came to greet us or even get us water. I had no more patience after a long day and walked out. My mom even went up to this lady to ask for service and she shrugged and said "sure" while staring at my mom as if she were crazy.

My mom and I were still invisible to any of the waiters while we left.

What an insult. I'm never going back. EVER.

Waste of money, wasted evening. I've lived in Ottawa for over 30 years and have experienced many different culinary styles and levels of dining in the area. The market represents our culture; it is where tourists tend to gravitate and where us Ottawa residents like to enjoy a good drink and meal after a long week. I took my brother to The Fish Market to celebrate him having landed his first full time job. The service was great but unfortunately the meal was extremely disappointing. I could have prepared our dinner ten times better with groceries probably totalling $30 or less. We were both served a small dry portion of fish overtop soggy fries with three miniscule broccoli florets and the bill came up to about $85. And after consulting with friends and family, this seems to be the opinion of many in the region. Fish Market direction, you are at one of the cornerstones of Ottawa's food district. Please get your act together and try to represent what makes us proud in fine dining. This is unacceptable for a restaurant of your stature, location and maturity. I will not recommend for dinner and have started telling about this poor experience to all that I know who enjoy dining in the Market. The Fish Market completely dropped the ball when came the time to celebrate an important milestone. I suggest looking across the street, even if you are starving for seafood; this is NOT the place to go.

Great spot for a special meal.. We wanted to have a relaxed gathering for ten after our daughter's graduation from U. of O. on Friday May 16. The Fish Market took our reservation including a few special requests and the staff did not miss a beat on their delivery. I appreciated their phone call prior to the event to double check the arrangements. The service was prompt and very professional. Everyone's needs were addressed without hesitation. The pace of the service was perfect as was the quality of the food. If you want to have a relaxed, non- pretentious celebration dinner at a very reasonable price, this is the place in Ottawa. You will not be disappointed!

Extremely Disappointed. My expectations were high for this seafood restaurant as some friends have recommended...until today's experience at this place all that just went down the drain even for the same friends who has recommended this. We were one of the first to sit down when it opened at 5pm and if I hadn't asked at 6:20pm how long will we have to wait for our order the food would not have started to come. We were a big group and therefore was told that due to the size of our group it took longer to plate everything! I told the waitress no one was even offering for more bread as a courtesy at the least for having been seated without anything but they kept pouring water to fill our stomach...the waitress told me if only I had asked!!!! That was so rude first of all and totally unacceptable! With such an over priced menu and very disappointing food and service bread is the very least that you could have offered and you're telling me I have to ask for a bread that wasn't even enough to begin with for a large group! We have four kids that are becoming restless travelling 5 hours to this city and being served poorly at this restaurant is NOT ACCEPTABLE! In the end, the nice hostess Elaine or Emily (sorry can't recall her name exactly) was nice enough to take some of the charges from our bill because not only one order was wrong, but all these: a steak that was hard as a rock, burnt kid's pizza, combination plate that supposed to have white sauce have no sauce...and I can go on and on.... Needless to say I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AND NEITHER WOULD I EVER GO BACK AGAIN!
Tanya
We went on a Saturday evening, very busy but we were seated right away. That's the only good thing about our experience... We ordered the calamari as a starter. This was very disappointing, it was very greasy and flavourless and to top it all it was cold. We then had the shrimp 3 ways, which had the coconut shrimp that were simply fried, battered, no taste of coconut there! I had ordered the roasted potatoes with the meal, big mistake as they were so dry, I couldn't even cut through most of them! My crab stuffed ones were very chewy.... Not was I was expecting at all from this place. We had high hopes for the lobster pasta my husband had ordered, but this was again disappointing... It sounded extremely good on the menu but boy were we wrong! It had a very strong taste of tomatoes, which we didn't expect. There was big pieces of lobster but they were cold as well. Our waitress was nowhere to be found the entire time, we had to ask a hostess for more water. Overall, the 120$ meal was a big waste of money. Way overpriced, greasy and cold! Too bad because we did like the atmosphere of that restaurant but that was it!
Jenny
I came here for the first time for lunch. We ordered clam chowder, fish and chips and coconut shrimp. The chowder was very flavourful but very thick. The coconut shrimp was really simple and I hardly tasted any coconut in it, it just tasted like a deep fried shrimp. The fish and chips that we ordered was extremely oily and greasy. The plate was full of oil, the fish I could taste all the oil in my mouth, it was like it was put on the plate right out of a deep fryer. The tilapia and the way they battered it just didn't go well together. Overall I wouldn't come back just because till now I can still taste the oiliness in my mouth.

Soggy & sour. My overall experience dining out at the Fish Market Restaurant is that the food I ordered was tasteless and soggy (soggy fries and salad). The service was awful, our waitress seemed uninterested in her work and had a sour disposition about her.
Will never go there again.
Chris

Very disappointing. Overall a very disappointing meal at this restaurant.

We ordered the seafood platter which "sounds" like a big meal but was told by the waitress that definitely it was a large platter good for sharing between two people. In addition, the platter included Queen Crab which I asked the waitress if it was snow crab. She said, no the Queen Crab is actually larger than the King Crab.

It took an hour to serve this platter of steamed/boiled seafood. I was told it was because a large party came in at the same time as us but I saw for myself that we sat down and ordered before they even arrived.

When the platter arrived, my first thought was, Is this it? I had to lift up the lobster to find the other seafood which was hiding underneath. (and we all know how big a lobster is...) Also when I saw the crab I instantly recognised it was snow crab. If I knew it was snow crab I would never order it. Snow crab is significantly smaller than King Crab and more difficult to eat due to the lack of meat! Where does she get information that Queen Crab is larger than King Crab?? I think she either has no clue what is King Crab or thinks it is Dungeness Crab.

After finishing our meal, we were both still starving (this is also after having ordered a starter) so we had to walk down the street to zak's diner to eat again.

Give it a miss. Went along for lunch to the buzzing Byward Market to experience a great meal to be disappointed. We had seen this restaurant advertised in a few places and now I can see why. The restaurant was half empty at a time others were busy. The venue itself is tired, dated and in need of a good scrub. Our waitress was brilliant though - bubbly and very attentive. We ordered food which the kids enjoyed (although they didnt have their original choice) however my mussels and chips were awful. Cold, gritty and tastless. My husband ordered a lobster which was chewy and tastless (although he did say the rice was cooked brilliantly).
A thoroughly disappointing experience. Not a good way to start our short trip to Ottawa :-(

Ok, grab your money and head to Costco, loblaws or even a metro and buy a high liner fish... so much better. What a waste of a good location.

Mediocre food terrible service. It was crazy warm in the dinning room. Terrible service. We had received our food before the waitress finally brought the drinks. We were Half way through before we got a beer from the bar. Waitress seemed like she was in a terrible mood and never checked back with us after we got the food. A hostess is the one that brought the drinks and warm tap water to be table way into the meal. Food was ok but nothing special.
Lili
I feel bad for posting this but this restaurant has really gone down. We had to wait forever for our order to be taken, then we waited forever for our food, and then some of the food was not what we ordered. Then we had to wait a long time to pay. It got to the point of comical but I would never go back. The food quality is very average to poor.
Julie
Good Restaurant. I went there with 3 of my friends and we had a pretty good meal! My meal was pretty good, I actually had the crusted chicken. Overall, the service was good and the meal was good. Though I guess I wish I tried some of the seafood instead of the chicken. I'd like to go there again!

Very much worth the trip. My boyfriend and I went to lunch here while we were in town visiting family. We went here because my parents told us this was a great place to eat at and told us to have the fish and chips. I had the fish and chips and my boyfriend had the lobster wrap. We were very happy that we took the time to do lunch here while in town.

It took us some time to find because of the name change from The "old" fish market, but after talking with the kind waitress we had, she did indeed tell us that it was a name change and we were in the right spot. We waited until after our meal to ask, so in case we were in the wrong place, then the staff had no reason to lie to us about it. (I figure someone would be thinking that we were stupid to ask at the start of the meal and what not.)

If we do go to Ottawa again, we would return here for another meal.
Kim
Terrible all round. Bad service and bad food. Our fish was dry and not very fresh.
Shoeless
Unappetizing. Food wasn't very good. The whole place was just... dingy. It didn't have a very nice atmosphere, looked more like a dusty old cabin than a nice place to eat.
Smilee1
Terrible Food. The food here was terrible. The Ceasar Salad was soggy. Fish and chips for $19 for once piece of fish was greasy and soggy as well. French fries were tasteless. Mussels were very small. Overprice and just plain awful for what you got. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. Only good thing I can say about this restaurant was the service.
Chloe
Will not return. Service was very good but food was very mediocre, overpriced. The halibut fish and chips was tasteless and the batter was very oily. Even the french fries were tasteless. The huge menu posted on the outside of the restaurant is VERY misleading as it is the lunch menu and prices are cheaper. I suspect alot of people get taken in by this during supper hour and once inside and seated, they are hugely disappointed that the prices are higher. Although it was a Friday night and the weather was nice, the restaurant was pretty empty and it was 6:15pm. That should have been a huge red flag for us. We had been warned about the overpriced mediocre food but had decided to give it a try ourselves. Will definitely not be returning. Plan on trying out Lapointe's across the street next time. We heard the food and service are very good!

Mussels Mania. Their Mussels are like a no miss in the city... Great wine pairing for them and very nicely priced... we make it our weekly gals day out for mussels...
Cant miss it!
Letseat
Seafood? restaurant?. My friends and I wanted seafood, so we decided to go to this restaurant, and MY GOSH.
Their supposed specialty of mussels, were probably the worst I've ever had. Half of them not opened, and even some that were 90% raw. Calamari was lacking flavour, like all the other dishes... (how do you screw up deep fried food??)
And on top of it all, the service was non-existant.
Will sure NOT be going back to this place in future, and I hope the tourists dont get lured in by their "Fish Market" signs.

So Fresh!. Was in for lunch with a friend. He had the salmon and I had catfish, with a spicy cajun sauce. Man it was great! Service was awesome, the view of the Market was great. Food was hot (and the cajun spice was spicy HOT, which is sometimes hard to find) and the fish was fresh. I'm planning on heading back for dinner!

-----25 Apr, 2012-----

Amazing Fish. Dropped by over the weekend for some fresh fish. What a great menu! I recommend any of their fish selections, all are paired with a great sauce. Smoked salmon = delicious!

For less expensive mediocrity, head over to Red Lobster. Terrible. Service was garbage. Food is average but highly priced. I will not be going back.
Allie
Wow. Every time I go to the Fish Market I get great service and amazing food. Just wanted to thank our server..can't remember her name but she was a red head! Had great recommendations on what to order as well!
Zorchi
Mussels and Wine go hand in hand here. Kuddos for those mussels. They are a great dish for a great price. I enjoy them every time with a nice glass of their white wine. They seem to purpose be paired, as they are meant for each other in your taste buds.

Great experience!!!. My colleagues and I were there last night and we had an absolutely amazing time! Our server Gwen was delightful, very honest and had a great sense of humor! Often I find servers tend to be very fake, but she was very genuine and didn't rush us, even though we stayed till closing time.

Everything was timed perfectly, and the server's suggestions were divine! MUST TRY THE TUNA STEAK! I was going to get a filet minon because I'm not big on seafood really (must admit it wasn't my restaurant of choice) but was convinced otherwise by my server. Seriously, the tuna steak is amazing and was grilled to perfection! Great choice of sides, vegetables were delicious. Definitely will return on next visit to Ottawa!

Overall great experience!
Philippe Gerald Lemelin
Am I that old!!. Ok ok, I was in the mood for fish, but I was also in the mood to have a nice time in an Ottawa classic restaurant. When I say classic, I don't mean Old….and this is what we feel about this restaurant and the menu. We can also see it when we look at the crowd in the restaurant. The traditional decor could be real good if it was upgraded just a bit. For the meal, we had as a starter the lobster poutine (we were so excited bout it), just to compare it with the real good one we have in Montreal. I must say it's a total no. First, the brown gravy: to stick. The fries are not well done and I was searching for some good lobster pieces, but can't really find them.

For the main course, I had a swordfish my friend a tilapia. The meal by itself is good, specially the fish, really well done and tasty. But it's the rest of the plate that isn't right and make the plate look old. Dry rice, dry potatoes, dry vegy, dry everything…since It was Sunday night I thought: they are serving us the Saturday night rest…. I hope I'm not right!!! For the desert, I had a really really good lemon tart, sweet and tasty…..very creamy, so for those of you who likes the very traditional lemon stuffing!!! So we go or not to this restaurant….I'll go but with my mother and grandmother!!
Chris
Typical restaurant with great corner location in tourist zone: very mediocre food.

If you're in the market and want good fish, go to the much smaller and less noticeable "Lapointe's" across the street. The food is way better here, as they have to work hard having a less noticeable location and far smaller dining room.

Impressed. I got a Groupon deal for the Fish Market and only afterwards remembered that I've had it with the overpriced, so-so quality of Coasters, which I've been to dozens of times. But I'd never been to the Fish Market, largely because of all the bad reviews. But I have to say, I was impressed and really didn't expect to be. I had the seared tuna salad. At $20.99 I was expecting a small piece of tuna. I got a HUGE tuna steak, rare as I'd asked, atop fresh, albeit slightly overdressed mixed greens. My date also had salad with his pan-fried trout and enjoyed it as well. I question the pairing of our coconut shrimp appetizer with a dijon mustard dipping sauce, but it was fine. Our server, Carly, was very friendly, attentive and prompt. Overall it was a nice meal, a reasonable price (especially with the Groupon!) and a better experience than I'd expected. I'd definitely go again.
Donna
Terrible food, way overpriced, terrible service. The $8 lobster bisque was tasteless and watery.
Belinda
I recommend the daily special. Fresh and yummy.

Went to the Fish Market for the first time tonight - I had the cajun tillapia. My main issue with this restaurant is the food is extremely overpriced for the quality and portion size you get. The tillapia was pretty good - but I probably won't go back.

Wide variety, undecided. Service was good. They did make an error ,however she was new and the manager went out other way to apologize profusely and fix things. Waitress station next to the tables so you can over hear conversations is possible inappropriately located, but just sit elsewhere. Been there a couple of times, will return again in the future.

Meh. As a Nova Scotia native, I have high seafood standards, this fell flat. Fish and chips were over battered, with the inside being barely cooked. Scallops were tasteless and rubbery. Sides were good, wine was good, but seafood wasn't up to par.

Pretty good. I prefer LaPointe's, but this place has been around for years for a reason. If you like fish and aren't grossed out by the smell (can be a bit overpowering) then give it a try.

A highly overpriced menu with horrible terrible food. The service is of the same quality. Don't bother.

Despite making me feel a little rushed, the service was generally very good and the surroundings pleasant. The oysters I had for my first course were not especially enjoyable (though this was not the fault of the restaurant), but the Bouillabaisse I had was excellent. I had a very pleasant dining experience on the whole.
